<br />
While many confusing car-related things have happened in the upper strata of the Autoverse over the last few years (Aston Martin and Ferrari both being impart owned by Middle Eastern concerns, Aston Martin not being bankrupt) perhaps the most shocking and disconcerting was Ford's sale of Jaguar and Land Rover to India's Tata. To many, the scheme seemed doomed from the get go and after a couple cash-hemorrhaging quarters coupled to the recent recession, the naysayers appeared right.<br />
<br />
Turns out, Tata can say nay to the naysayers as its two prestige/luxury brands just turned a profit. A combination of cost cuts and attractive new models (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LR4/">LR4</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/XF/">XF</a>) have helped catapult the long time money losers into the black. And while the $4.7 million in consolidated net profits last quarter is certainly nothing to jump for joy over, that nearly five million bucks is a nice change of pace from the usual Jag/Landy blood red ink. JLR sales rose 23% over the previous quarter. Rule Britannia! Er, India.<br />

<br />
As if the X-Type experiment didn't go poorly enough, the Leaper may be heading back to the wagon trough, with four-cylinder engines, no less. Yet it's not as lame as it sounds. According to <em>Autocar</em>, the idea of an XF wagon is on the plate for when the model gets its refresh in 2012. Jaguar wants to beat back its Audi and BMW estate car rivals, and were it to have a five-door XF, the car's sales would stand a good chance of being on top, instead of in third place in UK sales. <br />
<br />
The four-cylinder talk centers around a diesel engine that is rumored to be a revised 2.2-liter borrowed from Ford by way of Land Rover. While the XF's current V8 has taken some flak for being an underachiever, it at least provides a delightful soundtrack. The bray of a four, even a diesel, may be acceptable to UK buyers who already snap up such powertrains in competitors wagons, but we'd want our family-style XF to kick it with big V8 brawn. Here's hoping we get the chance.<br />

Jaguar has been <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/06/28/video-jaguar-extols-the-glory-of-aluminum/">touting</a> the aluminum-intensive construction of the XJ sedan since the previous-generation model was introduced back in 2003. According to the automaker, the use of aluminum in lieu of steel can lead to an impressive 40 percent reduction in weight. That's bound to have positive effects on driving dynamics, performance and efficiency.<br />
<br />
With its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/2010-jaguar-xj-we-get-hands-on-with-coventrys-new-big-cat/">latest redesign</a>, Jaguar claims to have improved its aluminum architecture even further, so it's not surprising that the company plans to extend the technology to the rest of its line. According to Ratan Tata, chairman of the company that now owns Jaguar Land Rover, "JLR is planning to have all its future cars constructed with light weight aluminum bodies resulting in considerable savings in weight, and reduction in CO2 emissions."<br />
<br />
To go along with their new diets, Jaguar and Land Rover are known to be experimenting with hybrid powertrains. A <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/04/24/sae-2009-torotrak-mechanical-flywheel-kers-likely-coming-to-ne/">kinetic energy recovery system</a> may be in the cards for the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/04/12/jaguar-to-build-extended-range-ev-version-of-new-xj-in-2011/">XJ line in 2011</a> while Land Rover has been working on an <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/07/22/london-2008-land-rover-intros-new-green-technology/">Electric Rear Axle Drive</a> that could debut in the upcoming <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/06/25/report-compact-hybrid-range-rover-lrx-gets-go-ahead/">LRX compact Range Rover</a>.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Jaguar XJ teasers - Click above for more</small></span><br /></div>
<br />If it seems as if we've been talking about the <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/18/rumormill-jaguar-xj-details-leak-out/">Jaguar XJ</a> a lot recently, it's because we have. The redesigned flagship model is very important car for the British-born, Indian-owned automaker. Reports say that its new design will borrow heavily from the automaker's modern, but still traditionally classy <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/01/first-drive-2008-jaguar-xf/">XF</a>. Jaguar revealed the first official 2010 XJ teaser image at the Shanghai Auto Show today, and based on the overhead shot that shows the car's panoramic roof, we'd say the reports we've been hearing are spot on. Notice the hood in particular and what appears to be either a very thin or completely blacked out C-pillar. You can also <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/20/xj-update-jags-big-sedan-looks-to-xf-for-inspiration/">follow the jump</a> to watch the short teaser video Jaguar revealed at the Shanghai show earlier today.<em><br /><br /></em>Jaguar says that July 9 will be the date of the XJ's coming out party in London. There will be both short and long wheelbase versions, with power coming from the company's new range of gas and diesel engines. That includes the 503-hp, supercharged, direct-injection, 5.0-liter V8, although that model might not wear the "R" moniker like the similarly equipped XKR and XFR models. The "R" badge is said to be reserved for an even higher performance model to be announced later on.<br /><br />When the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/26/2010-jaguar-xj-to-debut-in-july-on-sale-in-september/">car hits showrooms in December</a>, it should directly challenge the benchmark Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series with plenty of high-tech features in a very stylish package, both inside and out. The XJ will feature the same JaguarDrive gear selector first introduced in the XF, but also paddle shifters to work the 6-speed auto. It will definitely be a leap into the 21st century for Jag's big sedan. There's reportedly even an <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/rumormill-jaguar-to-build-extended-range-ev-version-of-new-xj-i/">extended range electric</a> in the mix that will take on the Fisker Karma among others.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-teasers/low/">2010 Jaguar XJ teasers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-teasers/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/dp_allnewxj_bf_2_2e77_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xj-teasers/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/dp_allnewxj_b_2_b997_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: Jaguar, <a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/235230/jaguar_xj_scooped.html">Auto Express</a>, <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.ASpx?AR=239608">Autocar</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/20/xj-update-jags-big-sedan-looks-to-xf-for-inspiration/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>XJ Update: Jag's big sedan looks to XF for inspiration [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/20/xj-update-jags-big-sedan-looks-to-xf-for-inspiration/">XJ Update: Jag's big sedan looks to XF for inspiration [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 10:57:00 EST. Unfortunately, as soon as you get in and press the start button, you can't help but wonder if the disastrous quality reputation that British cars have seemingly carefully nurtured for decades will afflict this car as well. The gear selector knob that rises out of the center console and the vents that roll over to expose themselves seem like bits that are destined to fail in time. <br /><br />If the results seen by <em>Automobile Magazine</em> and respondents to TrueDelta's Car Reliability Survey are any indication, those fears are likely to come true. <em>Automobile</em>'s long-term XF has been afflicted by a litany of issues ranging from faulty window regulators and bad rear axles to a failed power steering system. <a href="http://www.truedelta.com/car-reliability.php?stage=pt&amp;bd=Jaguar&amp;mc=808&amp;email=Guest">TrueDelta surveys</a> owners and has found the XF requires far more trips to the dealer than competing models such as the BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. While the other models range from 33 to 97 dealer visits per year for every 100 cars, XF owners ended up back in the service bay 141 annually per 100 cars. Hopefully these are just first year production glitches, but this sort of news does not inspire confidence. <em>Thanks for the tip, Leo!</em><br /><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/12_month_car_reviews/0902_2009_jaguar_xf_supercharged_update/index.html">Automobile</a>, <a href="http://www.truedelta.com/car-reliability.php?stage=pt&amp;bd=Jaguar&amp;mc=808&amp;email=Guest">TrueDelta</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/09/report-quality-problems-afflicting-jaguar-xf/">REPORT: Quality problems afflicting Jaguar XF</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 10:29:00 EST. The English marque just showed off the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit-2009-jaguar-xfr-makes-us-purrrrr-really-really-fast/">XFR</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit-2009-white-lightning-jaguar-shows-510-bhp-xkrs-w-vid/">XKR</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit-2009-faster-pussycat-jaguar-xfr-pounces-on-bonneville/">slightly modified XFR</a> broke the company's speed record formerly held by the Jaguar XJ220, and chatter suggests that the automaker is working on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/new-renderings-of-jags-hush-hush-supercar/">a new supercar</a>. On top of all that, the Jaguar XF 2.7 V6 Diesel Luxury has won the <em>What Car?</em> magazine award for Best Executive Sedan for the second year in a row.<br /><br />The XF didn't just beat cars from its own class, it beat the best buys among executive sedans in higher and lower price brackets. The other challengers were the best sedan buy under &pound;30,000 (around $42k USD), the BMW 520d SE, and the best buy over &pound;35,000 (around $49k USD), the Mercedes Benz CLS 320 CDI. The Jag walked it for being "beautiful to look at, brilliant to drive, an event to be in, and worth every penny of its running costs." Which means that if the 2.7-liter could take the award two years in a row, with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/29/jaguar-upgrades-xf-diesel-in-europe-443-lb-ft-and-35-mpg/">new 3.0-liter</a> coming on line this year the XF might be a good bet for the trifecta come 2010.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-report.aspx?NA=237045&amp;EL=3299388">What Car?</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/29/jaguar-xf-does-the-double-wins-what-car-award-again/">Jaguar XF does the double, wins <i>What Car?</i> award again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 08:31:00 EST. <br />The Jaguar XFR is a saber-toothed tiger of feline badness. The supercharged, direct-injection V8 is good for a jungle-canopy-shaking 510 horsepower - 125 hp up on the naturally aspirated V8 - and 0-to-60 bolt that takes but 4.7 seconds. Further up in the range, getting from 50 mph to 70 mph takes - get this - 1.9 seconds. And even better, the gas mileage stays the same compared to the previous-generation 4.2-liter V8.<br /><br />Inside, Jaguar's theatrics are upped by the addition of a dark mesh aluminum finish in the fascia and door panels, the latter of which are for the screaming 14-speaker Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio system. The navigation system gets turn-by-turn instructions in the message center, and there's an acoustically laminated windscreen for quieter motoring. Perhaps the best part is that the XFR seats hug with a vengeance and look the business in two-tone. Until now we've had <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/26/jaguar-next-xj-closer-to-bentley-than-bmw/">speculation</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/spy-shots-next-jaguar-xj-caught-at-where-else-the-nurburgring/">spy pics</a>, but <em>Channel 4</em> is reporting that Jaguar officials have confirmed plans to "introduce a new saloon" later this year, that "takes the luxury saloon to new heights in terms of its technical enhancements." Although this new sedan will eventually replace the XJ in the company's lineup, it is said to be radically different from the traditional sedan. Imagine XF detailing on a four-door XK and you won't be far off from the vehicle that's due to show up later this year. <br /><br />No official details have been reported, but Jaguar officials are apparently mentioning the Porsche Panamera, Maserati Quattroporte, Aston Martin Rapide and Mercedes-Benz CLS as competition. Engine options will likely include <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/29/jaguar-upgrades-xf-diesel-in-europe-443-lb-ft-and-35-mpg/">Jaguar's new 3.0L V6 diesel</a> as well as the new direct-injection, 5.0L gas V8s in naturally aspirated or supercharged form. The car should be revealed later this year, making 2009 a very busy year for the company. Jaguar is already set to unveil the supercharged <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/03/spy-shots-jaguar-xf-r-bares-more-teeth/">XF-R</a>, as well as updated <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/04/jaguar-updates-the-2009-xj/">XJ</a>, XK and XKR models, along with its new V8 and V6 diesel engines at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/DetroitAutoShow/">Detroit Auto Show</a> next week. Otherwise, and as usual, you'll need to know your Jags in order to tell this R apart from its lesser siblings. In addition to the mesh the mesh, the hood vents, rear deck spoiler, and quad pipes are the giveaways.<br /><br />Otherwise, the car will get 20-inch wheels of a different design than the ones found on the XF Supercharged. And speaking of that other blown cat, the supercharged 5.0-liter lump that will power the XF-R will be up 80 hp up on the "regular" blown XF; in addition to a faster 0-to-60 time, we imagine there'll be increased sound and the fury to go along with it. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.nextautos.com/spy-shot-2010-jaguar-xf-r-roars-view">Next Autos</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/03/spy-shots-jaguar-xf-r-bares-more-teeth/">Spy Shots: Jaguar XF-R bares more teeth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 03 Jan 2009 10:20:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"><small>Click the new XF Diesel S for a high-res gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br />Over in Europe, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/">Jaguar XF</a> has been available with diesel power since its debut last year. However, as well regarded as the old 2.7-liter V6 oil burner was, its 207 horsepower couldn't run with the big dog twin-turbo 286 hp diesel six from BMW. So for the 2010 model year, Jaguar has developed a new dual turbo 3.0-liter that's available in 240 hp or 275 hp S trim. While 275 ponies might not seem all that special these days, the engine's 443 lb-ft of torque from as little as 1,600 rpm has what it takes to push the XF Diesel S to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds en route to a top speed of 155 miles-per-hour. That's 0.3 seconds quicker than the normally aspirated 4.2-liter gasoline V8 that serves as the base powerplant here in the US. <br /><br />Even more impressive is that the diesel offers this performance while achieving a combined fuel economy rating of 35 miles-per-gallon U.S. - a 12 percent improvement on the old 2.7. All of this is achieved through a 29,000 psi common-rail fuel system and a particulate filter. The forced-induction setup is particularly interesting: Most dual turbo configurations use a small responsive unit at low revs and a bigger unit at higher speeds. In this case, however, Jag's new XF uses a larger variable nozzle turbo at low speeds to reduce pumping losses and fuel consumption. <br /><br />Sadly, there's no word yet on whether Jaguar will bring the oily Cat to America, but unless diesel prices move closer to those of gasoline, we wouldn't count on it. In bang-up British car fashion, at least one of the problems is electrical. The XF's instrument panel is supposed to offer audible feedback for a variety of functions like turn signals, safety belt warnings and basically anything that dings. Wires that power the instrument cluster's integral speaker can fracture, rendering the panel mute. The fix is apparently little more than a reconfiguration of some software - we wonder if the panel's software will pipe its audio to the stereo instead - that strikes us as one of the slick things you might be able to pull off with CAN. <br /><br />The other XF recall involves a rear seat belt that could have been improperly installed. The outboard rear seat belts may have an improperly installed D-Ring that could fail to rotate properly, which would hinder occupant protection in the event of a crash. The fix for the rear belts is to inspect and correct the problem. Welcome to the family, XF!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/">Review: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/001_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/003_jagxfxsc_ab_opt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/000_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/002_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/004_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://goodcarbadcar.blogspot.com/2008/12/another-jaguar-xf-recall-affects-3754.html">GoodCarBadCar</a>, Recalls.gov - <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsummary.cfm?rcl_campaign_id=08V607000&amp;prod_id=396665&amp;moduletype=VEHICLE&amp;make=JAGUAR&amp;model=XF&amp;veh_model_year=2009&amp;searchtype=DrillDown">1</a> and <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsummary.cfm?rcl_campaign_id=08V396000&amp;prod_id=396665&amp;moduletype=VEHICLE&amp;make=JAGUAR&amp;model=XF&amp;veh_model_year=2009&amp;searchtype=DrillDown">2</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/08/jaguar-xf-recalled-twice-in-december-so-far/">Jaguar XF recalled twice in December... so far</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 17:57:00 EST. Outside, the car gets hood vents and larger intakes for better breathing, and a sliver of a trunk spoiler hovering over quad tailpipes out back. Larger wheels wearing lower profile rubber hanging off of a seriously firm suspension will be on the menu, all the better to harness the signature trait of an R car: the 500-horsepower supercharged V8 up front. According to <em>Auto Express</em>, what you see here is slated to hit showrooms in 2010 and will go up against such luxury and performance stalwarts as the Mercedes-Benz C Class Coupe, BMW's 3 Series Coupe and the Audi A5. It's definitely got the looks to compete on equal footing, with the trendy high belt-line and minimal glass surface area. Where the XF sedan features slinky lines, this XF bulges in an exaggerated show of power, making the new Coupe a much more aggressive design overall. <br /><br />Jaguar's latest leaper is also expected to showcase the automaker's newest V8 engine, now displacing 5.0L and generating 500 supercharged horses. This engine will also make an appearance in the XFR and allow Jaguar to offer a British alternative to the BMW M cars, MB AMGs and Audi Rs, not to mention the latest Cadillac CTS V-Series, which is soon to lose two of its doors, as well. We don't know when and where this car will debut, but UK pricing is expected to be about <span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">&pound;35,000 (about $53K in US dollars). </span><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/231762/jags_xf_coup_gets_ready_to_roar.html">Auto Express</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/25/rendered-speculation-jaguar-xf-coupe-breaks-cover/">Rendered Speculation? <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a hi-res gallery of tonight's poll entrants</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />This weekend's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/22/more-porsche-panamera-pics-surface/">Porsche Panamera photos</a> have everyone talking, and it had us thinking it's time for a Sunday Poll. Sportier, coupe-like four-doors are no longer a novelty; everyone's doing (or plans to do) it. So, given the choice, which one would <em>you</em> pick. Our candidates are a mix of cars already here, cars on the way, and one concept that seems like a lock to come to fruition. Are you beguiled or bewildered by Stuttgart's new four-door? Maybe you like Fisker's green-but-beautiful approach. How about the Mercedes CLS, which basically started this trend? VW's now in the game with the CC, and Aston's busy cooking up the production Rapide. Let's not forget Jaguar's wide-eyed kitty, the XF. And we'd be remiss if we left out the Lamborghini Estoque, a concept that has cash cow written all over it for Sant'Agata. So, throw all those pesky restrictions like budget and availability out the window. In your opinion, who's got the best take on the coupe-sedan look so far?<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/">Sunday Poll: Choose Your Coupe-ish Four-Door</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/astonmartin_rapide_profile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Aston Martin Rapide" title="Aston Martin Rapide" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/fisker_karma_profile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Fisker Karma" title="Fisker Karma" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/jaguar_xf_profile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jaguar XF" title="Jaguar XF" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/lambo_estoque_profile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Lamborghini Estoque" title="Lamborghini Estoque" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mercedes_benz_cls_profile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class" title="Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/23/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/#poll22784">View Poll</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/23/sunday-poll-choose-your-coupe-ish-four-door/">Sunday Poll: Choose your coupe-ish four-door</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 23 Nov 2008 19:32:00 EST. <br />Tata is looking to move quickly to expand Jaguar's range of saloons, and why not with such a legacy of sports cars and world-beaters from which to draw? Jaguar became a household name due in large part to racing successes with such cars as the legendary XK120, C-Type and D-Type. More recently in the '90s, the British automaker has tested the exotic waters with its slinky XJ220 supercar. Rumors of a less expensive sports car in the vein of a Porsche Boxster are currently filtering out from dealerships that have spoken with the marque's new management, along with convertible and coupe versions of the popular <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/jaguar+xf">XF sedan</a>, which has already served to spark a renewed interest in the brand. <br /><br />Considering that the X-Type is largely considered a colossal failure, don't expect another low-cost sedan. And, though some of its competitors (BMW, we're looking at you) seem to think selling as many SUVs as possible is still a good thing, Tata also owns Land Rover and doesn't want its two iconic British automakers to compete with one another. Sounds rational.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/">2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/003_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/004_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081110/ANE03/811099874/1179/rss02&amp;rssfeed=rss02">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/10/jaguar-planning-boxster-rival-xf-coupe-and-cabrio/">Jaguar planning Boxster rival, XF coupe and cabrio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 13:57:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for more shots of the 2009 Jaguar XJ Portfolio</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The current-generation of the Jaguar XJ sedan is a perfectly capable car, if a bit boring on the eyes. Jaguar's design language had always been daring and beautiful, but until the current XF appeared, had lately been stuck in a rut and seemed to be producing endless copies of itself. No longer, as the brand, now under new Indian management, looks to move its flagship XJ upmarket to take on the likes of Bentley according to David Blackhall, the managing director of Jaguar Land Rover in Australia. If the XF is akin to a BMW in Jag's current line, the next XJ will distance itself as it moves up to cater to the fickle and always fashion-conscious upper crust. Considering how much we like the new direction Jaguar is heading with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/">the XF</a>, we look forward to seeing what the company is capable of with its range-topper, which should debut in the next 12-18 months. So, will it wear a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/30/tata-to-enter-uberr-lux-segment-with-daimler-revival/">Daimler badge</a>?<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/4A1DB9B4A5E2AFE5CA2574CD0009E27D">GoAuto</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/26/jaguar-next-xj-closer-to-bentley-than-bmw/">Jaguar: Next XJ "closer to Bentley than BMW"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 16:29:00 EST. Jaguar is planning to slow production at its Castle Bromwich plant by the end of the month in response to slow global sales. The XJ and XK output will be slashed due to a lack of demand. The production cut comes a month after Jaguar's Tata-owned stablemate, Land Rover, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/25/tata-cuts-land-rover-production/">cut its Soilhill facility</a> to a four-day work-week in response to slow sales. One bright spot for Jaguar is that UK sales are up a substantial 12%, due mostly to the hot-selling XF sedan. Although Tata has seen some success with the XF, the Indian automaker's reign over the British luxury marquees so far has been less than spectacular. Ford, on the other hand, has two less problem brands on its hands.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=235084">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/23/jaguar-considering-production-cuts/">Jaguar considering production cuts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 07:32:00 EST. <br />Ford Motor Company sent Jaguar packing this year when it sold the storied English automaker, along with Land Rover, to Indian mega corp. Tata. On its way out the door, Jaguar took something special: the XF sedan. Its entire development process having been carried out under the stewardship of Ford, the XF is easily the most tasty fruit born of the cross pollination between the Blue Oval and Leaping Cat since they were first joined back in 1989. Read on to find out how the 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharge fared in the Autoblog Garage.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/">Review: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/001_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/003_jagxfxsc_ab_opt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/000_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/002_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/004_jagxfxsc_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><em><small>All photos Copyright (C)2008 John Neff / Weblogs, Inc.</small></em></strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/">Review: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 05 Sep 2008 11:58:00 EST. It was accompanied by a Jaguar XJ mule and shepherded by a fleet of Land Rovers charged with blocking the all-seeing eye of someone's Sony Handycam. Fortunately for us, they failed. The driver of this particular prototype XF-R couldn't keep his foot off the throttle, as at different points in the video you hear the growl of a big displacement V8 and the accompanying scream of a supercharger. Other than vents in the hood to let that 5-liter V8 breathe, the body modifications look to be exceptionally tame. With 500 horsepower, however, its acceleration should be quite the opposite. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/spy-video-jaguar-xf-r-caught-on-tape/">Follow the jump</a> to check out the video.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRi7alBcVXY&amp;eurl=http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/08/video-jaguar-xf-r-spied-in-death-valley.html">YouTube</a> via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/08/video-jaguar-xf-r-spied-in-death-valley.html">Carscoop</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/spy-video-jaguar-xf-r-caught-on-tape/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Spy Video: Jaguar XF-R caught on tape</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/spy-video-jaguar-xf-r-caught-on-tape/">Spy Video: Jaguar XF-R caught on tape</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 18:01:00 EST.
