While the former reported that Jaguar was to supplement the existing XK line with a smaller variant, likely named XE, the latter <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/new-renderings-of-jags-hush-hush-supercar/">issued claims</a> that the new model would be positioned above the XK with an engine placed behind. A third source, <em>AutoWeek</em>, has now thrown its hat into the ring, refuting <em>AutoExpress</em>' supercar reports and running instead with <em>Autocar</em>'s idea of a smaller sportscar.<br /><br />According to <em>AutoWeek</em>'s man in the UK, rumors of a successor to the XJ220 are purely fantastical speculation, citing unnamed inside sources while noting quite rationally that something closer to the Porsche Boxster would make more business sense than a supercar in the Audi R8 mold. Who'll be vindicated in the Battle of the <em>Auto___</em>s? Time will tell, while here at Autoblog we'll contribute this much: why not build both? Wishful thinking to be sure, but if Jaguar hopes to take on Germany's best, they're going to need a wider range - and a halo car - to do it.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090126/FREE/901269977">AutoWeek</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/27/battle-of-the-auto__s-jaguar-supercar-rumors-refuted/">Battle of the Auto__s: Jaguar supercar rumors refuted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 13:58:00 EST. <br />Tata is looking to move quickly to expand Jaguar's range of saloons, and why not with such a legacy of sports cars and world-beaters from which to draw? Jaguar became a household name due in large part to racing successes with such cars as the legendary XK120, C-Type and D-Type. More recently in the '90s, the British automaker has tested the exotic waters with its slinky XJ220 supercar. Rumors of a less expensive sports car in the vein of a Porsche Boxster are currently filtering out from dealerships that have spoken with the marque's new management, along with convertible and coupe versions of the popular <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/jaguar+xf">XF sedan</a>, which has already served to spark a renewed interest in the brand. <br /><br />Considering that the X-Type is largely considered a colossal failure, don't expect another low-cost sedan. And, though some of its competitors (BMW, we're looking at you) seem to think selling as many SUVs as possible is still a good thing, Tata also owns Land Rover and doesn't want its two iconic British automakers to compete with one another. Sounds rational.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/">2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/002_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/003_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-jaguar-xf-supercharged/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/004_xf-garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081110/ANE03/811099874/1179/rss02&amp;rssfeed=rss02">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/10/jaguar-planning-boxster-rival-xf-coupe-and-cabrio/">Jaguar planning Boxster rival, XF coupe and cabrio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 13:57:00 EST. As we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/29/rumormill-jaguar-planning-porsche-911-rival/">previously reported</a>, the sports car known internally as the XE or F-Type will target the likes of the Porsche 911 and face competition from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/31/maserati-preparing-911-killer/">upcoming Maserati sportscar</a> in 2012 when it is anticipated to hit the market. Around the same time, Land Rover is expected to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/report-land-rover-to-build-the-lrx/">bring the LRX to market</a> and produce the sporty ute at Land Rover's plant in Halewood, England. Despite the shift in ownership, the vehicles are tipped to still be produced in the UK, although a large government contract to supply India's armed forces with Land Rover Defenders could result in local manufacturing of that utility vehicle on the subcontinent. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/">Land Rover LRX Concept - Black &amp; Silver</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/black_lrx_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/black_lrx_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/black_lrx_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/black_lrx_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-lrx-concept-black-and-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/black_lrx_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/">Jaguar F-Type Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/jaguarf-type-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/jaguarf-type-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/jaguarf-type-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/jaguarf-type-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jaguar-f-type-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/jaguarf-type-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/news-story.jsp?news_id=17296&amp;intcmp=rss_4car_news">4Car</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/03/report-tata-green-lights-lrx-and-jag-sportscar/">REPORT: Tata green-lights LRX and Jag sportscar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 10:32:00 EST. <p>It's full speed ahead for Jaguar, which seems determined not to miss a single beat even as it prepares to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/03/officially-official-ford-picks-tata-as-preferred-bidder-for-jag/">switch ownership from Ford to Tata</a>. As if an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/23/spy-shots-the-next-jaguar-xj/">all-new XJ flagship sedan</a> weren't enough to keep the transitioning British automaker busy, rumors are now circulating that Jaguar is preparing a proper sportscar, more hardcore than the XK grand tourer. </p>
<p>You may recognize the image above as the F-Type roadster that Jaguar unveiled to rave reviews at the Detroit show in 2000. Unfortunately, Jag's lagging sales - and the Aston Martin ceiling - forced Ford PAG to cancel the program, but Jaguar is reportedly preparing to present the case to its new owners. However, while the F-Type would have competed with the Porsche Boxster, Jaguar is said to have its sight set on the elusive benchmark of the Porsche 911 for its newest sportscar.</p>
