<br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" align="right" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/01-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_opt.jpg" alt="" /></a>Hold onto your hats folks, because while magazine award ceremonies appear to be just about finished, the auto show trophies are just starting to be handed out. This time, it's the International Car of the Year at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a>, and we've got two winners from within the Ford empire. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/taurus">Ford Taurus</a> took top car honors while the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc60">Volvo XC60</a> won as the best truck. Both vehicles have been well received by the press and early returns from customers appear to be positive, too. While the Taurus is outselling its bland and unexciting predecessor, the XC60 has helped Volvo achieve six consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases.<br /> <br /> ICOTY creator and executive producer Courtney Caldwell claims that the winners aren't chosen based on performance, but instead on how the vehicles "reflect our personalities, lifestyles and self-image and how well the automaker achieves that goal through the design and marketing of the vehicle." Uh-huh. And while the ICoTY award isn't exactly one of the big-name trophies for the mantle, a win is a win, and both Ford and Volvo are proud recipients of the accolades. Hit the jump to read over the press releases from Ford and Volvo.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/">LA 2009 COTY: 2010 Ford Taurus and 2010 Volvo XC60</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/13-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/14-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/15-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/16-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2009-coty-2010-ford-taurus-and-2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/17-volvo-xc60-ford-taurus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: Ford, Volvo]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/03/ford-taurus-and-volvo-xc60-named-international-car-and-truck-of/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LA 2009: Ford Taurus and Volvo XC60 named International Car and Truck of the Year</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/03/ford-taurus-and-volvo-xc60-named-international-car-and-truck-of/">LA 2009: Ford Taurus and Volvo XC60 named International Car and Truck of the Year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 16:58:00 EST. According to Courtney Caldwell, ICOTY's creator and executive producer, "[The awards are] about how cars reflect our lifestyles and self image, an attitude most consumers can identify with." <br /><br />So, what cars can you identify with? How about the Dodge Challenger, Ford Flex and Nissan GT-R? Those are the three cars that will be vying for the coveted trophy, and we can't think of any reason that these triplets wouldn't be worthy of a vote or two. The Challenger marks Chrysler's return to the pony car market and offers buyers a relatively inexpensive entry into quick quarter mile times and rumbling V8 power. The controversially styled Ford Flex is a fully modern take on the classic box-shaped people mover and we feel little need to explain why the mighty GT-R is worthy of your affection.<br /><br />As you would expect, the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram, both redesigned for 2009, have been nominated for the Truck of the Year award, joined by Subaru's latest Forester crossover. Next year's ceremonies will also bring the inaugural Earth, Wind &amp; Power awards, which will anoint either the BMW 335d, Volkswagen Jetta TDI or Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI (do you prefer your German oil-burner in a sedan or wagon body-style?) as this year's most environmentally friendly vehicle for '09. What, no Tesla Roadster? Lastly, BMW's X5 xDrive35d, Ford's Escape Hybrid and Mercedes-Benz's ML320 BlueTEC will duke it out for the eco-conscious truck award.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.roadandtravel.com/awards/2009/nominees.htm">Road and Travel</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/12/international-coty-and-toty-nominees-announced/">International COTY and TOTY nominees announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 10:59:00 EST. Honda's newly-ginormous Accord took the coronation on the car side, while Chrysler's revamped Town and Country used its slick new features to win the truck category. <a href="http://www.roadandtravel.com/automotive/autoawards/icotyjudges.aspx">RTM's judges</a> are a veritable who's who of heavy-hitting auto journos, including Ann Job, David E. Davis, Jr., Denise McCluggage and Autoblog's own <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bloggers/john-mcelroy/">John McElroy</a>. The pundit firepower lends real credence to the selections, even if you don't agree 100%. Results were sorted by JD Power and Associates, and General Motors had the most vehicles named to the overall list. GM was also presented with the first Earth Angel award, honoring the environmentally-friendly efforts of the automaker. The full list of winners is included in RTM's press release, posted after the jump. <br /><br />[Source: Road and Travel]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-road-and-travel-names-2008-international-car-of-th/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: Road and Travel names 2008 International Car Of The Year winners</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-road-and-travel-names-2008-international-car-of-th/">Detroit 2008: Road and Travel names 2008 International Car Of The Year winners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 13 Jan 2008 17:25:00 EST.
