<br />
We've heard it enough that it does no good griping about it further - the nifty <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i30/">Hyundai i30</a> three-door we just saw in the metal at the <a href="http://autoblog.com/paris-motor-show">Paris Motor Show</a> isn't crossing the Atlantic. Those who will get the i30 can now watch it in rolling glory, with <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> finally releasing promotional footage of its newest hatch.<br />
<br />
Slightly restyled to put design room between it and the five-door i30, a 126-horsepower four-cylinder is the highlighted engine among a wide range of powerplants mated to either six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. You can see how she runs in the video <a href="/2012/11/11/first-footage-of-the-hyundai-i30-three-door-u-s-watches-from-a/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/15/first-footage-of-the-hyundai-i30-three-door-us-watches-from-afa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First footage of the Hyundai i30 three-door, US watches from afar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/15/first-footage-of-the-hyundai-i30-three-door-us-watches-from-afa/">First footage of the Hyundai i30 three-door, US watches from afar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Nov 2012 09:00:00 EST. <br />
Here in the United States, the <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/i30">Hyundai i30</a> is better known as the <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+gt">Elantra GT</a>. And while the five-door version that we get is nearly identical to the model sold in Europe (save some specific suspension tuning), this new three-door variant will be an Old Country-only affair.<br />
<br />
Despite the fact that it's certainly a looker, we can't exactly blame <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> for not offering the three-door i30 in the States. Europeans buy up hatchbacks in droves, but with the sedan, coupe <em>and</em> five-door in our market, there isn't really a pressing need for a new three-door version to join the already-full Elantra range. And as the Hyundai press release states, the i30 three-door is "designed, engineered and manufactured in Europe, for Europe." Alrighty then.<br />
<br />
Powering the i30 is a range of gasoline and diesel four-cylinder engines, all mated to the buyer's choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Hyundai hasn't spilled all the beans on what lies underhood, but states that the "highlight" of the powertrain range is a 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder that pumps out 126 horsepower.<br />
<br />
Check out the three-door i30 in our high-res gallery above, and <a href="/2012/09/27/2013-hyundai-i30-3-door-paris-2012/#continued">scroll down</a> for Hyundai's official words.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/27/2013-hyundai-i30-3-door-paris-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2013 Hyundai i30 3-Door is a tidy Elantra GT</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/27/2013-hyundai-i30-3-door-paris-2012/">2013 Hyundai i30 3-Door is a tidy Elantra GT</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 22:29:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/kia/">Kia</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> will both introduce stylish new hatchbacks at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/paris-motor-show/">2012 Paris Motor Show</a>. The platform-sharing <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/kia%20Ceed/">Kia cee'd</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/hyundai+i30/">Hyundai i30</a> were both redesigned this year and introduced with five-door <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hatchbacks/">hatchback</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/wagons/">station wagon</a> variants. In Paris, we'll see sportier three-door models added to the mix: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/kia+pro+Ceed/">2014 Kia pro_cee'd</a> and the 2014 Hyundai i30 three-door.<br />
<br />
Matching the model range of the previous generation of each car, the three-doors should nicely complement the five-door versions of the cee'd and the i30 (known as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/kia/forte/">Kia Forte</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+gt/">Hyundai Elantra GT</a>, respectively, in the U.S.). Despite their shared genetics, the cars are well distinguished from each other. We think the Kia is sharper-looking, with its signature "tiger nose" grille and wide, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/volkswagen%20scirocco/">Scirocco</a>-like rear end. Four different engine options, two gas and two <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/diesel/">diesel</a>, are shared with the already-available five-doors.<br />
<br />
While the the new Kia model makes sense, the three-door i30 might faces instant competition on the same showroom floor in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/veloster/">Hyundai Veloster</a>. The i30's advantages are powertrain diversity and more traditional styling compared to the Veloster.<br />
<br />
As good as both cars look, neither will be offered in the U.S. We'll have plenty of live photos available when the cars are unveiled on September 27.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/15/hyundai-kia-preview-pair-of-three-door-hatches-for-paris/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai, Kia preview new three-door hatches for Paris Motor Show</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/15/hyundai-kia-preview-pair-of-three-door-hatches-for-paris/">Hyundai, Kia preview new three-door hatches for Paris Motor Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Sep 2012 18:03:00 EST. <br />
We weren't aware of the Toronto Batman before we saw this video, but apparently he gets around. Making a stop in London, he crashes a review of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/hyundai+i30">Hyundai i30</a> by journalist Rory Reid and - being a rather high-strung Canadian Batman still upset about his parents being dead - starts off by issuing an uncomplimentary single-word verdict on every one of the i30's features.<br />
<br />
He's then taken for a ride and given a chance to change his mind as he tries to get the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> to swear allegiance to him or at least play a CD using the car's voice recognition system. We're willing to bet this will be the only review of the i30 in which you'll hear Batman say, "Moped my ass." You'll find the video <a href="/2012/08/20/batman-interrupts-hyundai-i30-video-review/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/20/batman-interrupts-hyundai-i30-video-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Batman interrupts Hyundai i30 video review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/20/batman-interrupts-hyundai-i30-video-review/">Batman interrupts Hyundai i30 video review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2012 14:58:00 EST. <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai"><br />
Hyundai</a> won't confirm it's plans to introduce an SR performance badge to Australia, but <a href="http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/9F140197088B2F10CA257A5300012957">GoAuto.com.au</a> says it's coming.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/09/2013-hyundai-veloster-turbo-detroit-2012/">Veloster SR Turbo</a> is on its way and, now, there's speculation more performance-oriented cars could make their way Down Under. GoAuto says a performance version of i30 hatch could be announced as soon as October, when additional SR concept vehicles are shown.<br />
<br />
Of course, all of this talk of souped-up front-wheel-drive small cars has us thinking selfishly thinking about U.S. comparos between an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra/">Elantra</a> SR, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mazda/mazdaspeed3/">MazdaSpeed3</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volkswagen/gti/">Volkswagen GTI</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-honda-civic-si-first-drive/">Honda Civic Si</a>.<br />
<br />
However, Hyundai remains tight lipped on the possibility. When we contacted them, Hyundai wouldn't officially comment on anything, saying that there's already been speculation on an R-Spec version of the Veloster Turbo coming to America.<br />
<br />
"You do know how we like to 'never say never' at Hyundai," one official said in an email. He was likely smiling when he said it.<br />

Our guess is that Hyundai will continue to push select performance models in the future, whether they're called SR, RS, or R-Spec doesn't really matter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/08/14/hyundai-pondering-creation-of-sr-performance-brand-for-australia/">Hyundai pondering creation of SR performance brand for Australia?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Aug 2012 08:28:00 EST. <br />
Baboons are curious creatures. And, thanks to their opposable thumbs, they are rather excellent at satiating that curiosity, no matter what impediments stand in their way. Apparently, that includes door handles.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> decided there was no better way to test the durability of its <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/i30">i30</a> hatchback (that's the <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">Elantra GT</a> here in the States) than to send it into Knowsley Safari Park, near Liverpool in the UK. Specifically, into the Baboon habitat.<br />
<br />
As you'll see in the video after the break, the primates do their very best to rip the little hatchback to shreds, biting every surface, jumping up and down and from door to door and generally mucking about. How does the Hyundai cope with this kind of abuse? <a href="/2012/05/10/what-kind-of-baboons-would-do-this-to-a-hyundai-i30-hatchback/#continued">Scroll down below</a> to find out yourself.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/10/what-kind-of-baboons-would-do-this-to-a-hyundai-i30-hatchback/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What kind of baboons would do this to a Hyundai i30 hatchback?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/10/what-kind-of-baboons-would-do-this-to-a-hyundai-i30-hatchback/">What kind of baboons would do this to a Hyundai i30 hatchback?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 10 May 2012 19:59:00 EST. <br />
Truth be told, every 2012 Hyundai model save for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring/">Elantra Touring</a> already <em>had </em>a brake override system fitted. So why the announcement, and why now? Well, other than just tweaking <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/">Toyota</a>, whose <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/unintended+acceleration/">unintended acceleration</a> problems led to widespread <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/toyota+recall/">recalls</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/19/report-house-subcommittee-petitions-toyota-for-secret-documents/">Congressional investigation</a>, and prompted the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/12/nhtsa-wants-brake-throttle-override-systems-added-to-official-sa/">propose requiring brake override systems on all new cars</a>, the announcement likely has more to do with the end of Elantra Touring production than it does with anything else.<br />
<br />
The old Hyundai <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i30/">i30</a>, on which the Elantra Touring was based, has been redesigned, and reviews of the new model have already started showing up <a href="http://www.caradvice.com.au/136664/2012-hyundai-i30-facelift-revealed-ahead-of-frankfurt-show/">on foreign automotive websites</a>. We won't get our version of the i30, dubbed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/08/2013-hyundai-elantra-gt-chicago-2012/">Elantra GT</a> here in the U.S., until later in the summer.<br />
<br />
We'll be driving the GT in June and we promise to issue a full report, though we're going to try to avoid testing this new technology.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/05/hyundai-announces-standard-brake-override-for-all-models/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai announces standard brake-override for all models</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/05/hyundai-announces-standard-brake-override-for-all-models/">Hyundai announces standard brake-override for all models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 05 May 2012 15:03:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> has opened the curtains on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/hyundai+i30">i30</a> wagon it will be bringing to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, and it's a slightly less svelte five-door version of i30 hatch that debuted in Frankfurt. With its hump providing appreciably more space behind the B-pillar, Hyundai says the i30 wagon has best-in-class cargo room at 528 liters (18.6 cubic feet).<br />
<br />
It appears to fall right in the competitive sweet spot Hyundai says it's gunning for. At 4,485 millimeters the i30 wagon is 50 millimeters longer than the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volkswagen/golf">Volkswagen Golf</a> Estate and 35 millimeters shorter than the seven-seat <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ford+grand+c-max">Ford Grand C-Max</a>. The Golf Estate advertises cargo capacity of 505 liters with the rear seats up, and the best the Grand C-Max can muster is 475 liters if you opt for the tire-repair kit instead of the mini spare. The i30 splits the cargo room of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford">VW</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford">Ford</a> with the rear seats down, but beats the five-seat <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ford+c-max">C-Max</a>.<br />
<br />
The i30 wagon will offer three direct-injection gas engines and three diesels when it goes on sale later this year. Exact specs haven't been divulged, but outputs will range from 93 to 132 horsepower. A press release with more details is available <a href="/2012/02/24/hyundai-previews-new-i30-wagon-for-geneva/#continued">after the jump</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/24/hyundai-previews-new-i30-wagon-for-geneva/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai previews new i30 wagon for Geneva</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/24/hyundai-previews-new-i30-wagon-for-geneva/">Hyundai previews new i30 wagon for Geneva</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 24 Feb 2012 09:29:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> has just confirmed that a two-door coupe version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">Elantra</a> is coming, but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/07/hyundai-elantra-coupe-to-show-up-at-la-show/">despite prior speculation</a> pegging its debut at next week's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a>, the Korean automaker will be waiting until next February at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chicago-auto-show/">2012 Chicago Auto Show</a> to do the reveal.<br />
<br />
We've seen the car, and the Elantra Coupe looks much like your regular four-door Elantra but with two less ports of entry and a much more sporting flair. Hyundai hopes to differentiate the coupe from the sedan by giving it a different set of gear ratios for a more sporting driving experience. The Elantra Coupe will also get its own unique SE trim level, which as we know based on Hyundai's traditional trim designations, is the sporty trim. The company expects the coupe to make up 20 percent of the Elantra's volume, and its obvious target is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/civic/">Honda Civic</a> Coupe, as well as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/kia/forte+koup/">Kia Forte Koup</a> that will share the same basic underpinnings.<br />
<br />
In other Elantra news, Hyundai has also confirmed that a new five-door Elantra, heretofore called the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring/">Elantra Touring</a>, will arrive in 2013. We've already seen this model; it's called the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/13/2012-hyundai-i30-elantra-touring-frankfurt-2011/">i30 in Europe</a> where it's already debuted. The new five-door hatchback will not, however, retain the Elantra Touring name. Hyundai is keeping the new name close to its chest, but did tell us that the car will be called "Elantra <em>something</em>."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/11/hyundai-elantra-coupe-confirmed-coming-to-chicago/">Hyundai Elantra Coupe confirmed, coming to Chicago</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 11 Nov 2011 10:45:00 EST. <br />
There's plenty to love about the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/veloster">Hyundai Veloster</a>. Elegance might not be one of those things, but depending on your perspective, its unique door arrangement surely is. It's got one door on the driver's side, two on the passenger and a big liftgate around back. But now it looks set to get one more door, as a new report from <em>Car and Driver </em>suggests a second aperture is planned for the left side, bringing the total door count up to a more conventional five.<br />
<br />
The second driver's side door is reportedly being installed for markets like the UK, where the driver sits on the <strike>wrong</strike> other side (a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/20/mini-to-offer-five-door-derivative-of-next-generation-hatchback/">similar</a> problem to what <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mini/">Mini</a> found with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mini/clubman/">Clubman</a>). But that addition could be destined for the US market as well. For our part we'll echo C/D's sentiment that we'd sooner have a turbocharged Veloster in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> showrooms than a five-door version, but we'll take what we can get. For now.<br />
<br />
The Veloster with the extra door wouldn't be the only new five-door planned for Hyundai's lineup, as an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring/">Elantra Touring</a> based on the new European-market <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i30">i30</a> sportwagon/hatchback is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/06/2013-hyundai-elantra-touring-going-five-door-leaving-the-wagon/">widely expected</a> to make the transatlantic voyage as well. Apparently the Korean automaker thinks there's enough room in its range for both.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/11/hyundai-mulling-five-door-veloster-for-u-s/">Hyundai mulling five-door Veloster for U.S.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 11:33:00 EST. <br />
Someone at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> caught <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/volkswagen">Volkswagen</a> Group CEO Martin Winterkorn investigating a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> i30 <strike>as if he was</strike> just like one would expect from an intrigued engineer at a rival company. It might be too much to infer that the Herr Doctor is impressed by what he finds, but there is no doubt that he's got some questions that will need answering when he leaves.<br />
<br />
At about 1:45, while sitting in the cabin, he adjusts the steering wheel and begins to query his seconds on what he discovers. As far as our native German speaking helper could tell, Winterkorn wants to know how Hyundai managed to make an adjustment mechanism that doesn't make any noise, going so far as to say, "How do they do it? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw">BMW</a> can't do it, we can't do it... no clanging!" And then one of the gentlemen appears to answer, "We had a solution but it was too expensive..."<br />
<br />
<a href="/2011/09/26/what-can-hyundai-do-silently-and-inexpensively-that-volkswagen-a/#continued">Follow the jump</a> for the video and our best attempt to transcribe what Winterkorn says. Feel free to fill in the blanks in the comments, and we believe this officially means everyone is watching Hyundai. Closely.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/26/what-can-hyundai-do-silently-and-inexpensively-that-volkswagen-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What can Hyundai do silently and inexpensively that Volkswagen and BMW can't?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/26/what-can-hyundai-do-silently-and-inexpensively-that-volkswagen-a/">What can Hyundai do silently and inexpensively that Volkswagen and BMW can't?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 19:29:00 EST. <br />
The <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/i30">Hyundai i30</a> isn't just any ordinary Euro-market compact hatchback. Flash back to 2009 and remember that the i30 was brought over to the United States as the <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring">Elantra Touring</a>, and while it didn't make an enormous splash, <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> officials tell us they are still committed to offering the Touring model here in the States. And with a stylish new i30 ready for the importing, the rakish <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">Elantra</a> sedan will now have an attractive five-door counterpart to do battle with the <a href="http://autoblog.com/ford/focus">Ford Focus</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/mazda/mazda3">Mazda3</a>.<br />
<br />
Up until now, the rear end of the i30 had been a mystery, and now that we've given the car a full walk-around, we're quite happy with the way Hyundai's "Fluidic Sculpture" design language has been presented on this hatchback. The rear fascia gets the same sort of mildly aggressive look as the front, and the whole package looks nicely rounded-out. See for yourself in our attached high-res image gallery, and look for the i30 to head Stateside before you know it.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/13/2012-hyundai-i30-elantra-touring-frankfurt-2011/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Hyundai i30 says, "Call me Elantra Touring"</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/13/2012-hyundai-i30-elantra-touring-frankfurt-2011/">2012 Hyundai i30 says, "Call me Elantra Touring"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 16:01:00 EST. <br />
Is that you, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring/">Elantra Touring</a>?<br />
<br />
When <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai">Hyundai</a> debuted the swoopy new <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">2011 Elantra</a>, we were told that a hatchback-shaped <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/15/hyundai-planning-new-elantra-touring-based-on-2011-elantra-sedan/">Touring model would be coming down the pipeline</a>, and since the last-generation model was nearly identical to the then-current i30 sold overseas, it would only make sense that this new five-door will make its way Stateside at some point (albeit with the necessary Europe-to-America adjustments). And might we say, she's quite unique looking, with a distinct bow-element grille and mirroring lower fascia.<br />
<br />
Mum's the word on what sort of powertrains lie under the hood, and we'd really like to see what that rear hatch looks like, but we'll have those details within the next couple of days, as Hyundai is set to debut the all-new i30 at the <a href="http://autoblog.com/category/frankfurt-motor-show">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> next week. We're confident it'll fit right in with the plethora of diesel-powered hatches that fill the streets of Europe, and we're eager to see if it shows up Stateside. <a href="/2011/09/07/hyundai-previews-new-i30-ahead-of-frankfurt/#continued">Hit the jump</a> for Hyundai's official press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/07/hyundai-previews-new-i30-ahead-of-frankfurt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai previews new i30 ahead of Frankfurt</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/07/hyundai-previews-new-i30-ahead-of-frankfurt/">Hyundai previews new i30 ahead of Frankfurt</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 Sep 2011 10:30:00 EST. <br />
On this side of the ocean, we're used to our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundais</a> having names like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/accent/">Accent</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">Elantra</a>. But overseas the Korean automaker has an entirely separate range with names like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i20/">i20</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i30/">i30</a>. And Hyundai is preparing to unveil the latest of the latter at the rapidly approaching <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>.<br />
<br />
Filling the slot in Hyundai's European line-up that's filled, more or less, by the Elantra in this side of the pond, the current i30 hatchback and wagon have been on the market since 2007, so their replacement is just about right on schedule. The new model has been developed from start to finish specifically for the European market at the company's European R&amp;D facility in R&uuml;sselsheim, Germany, and embraces the brand's fluid design language with its trademark hexagonal grille up front.<br />
<br />
Little in the way of solid details have been announced on the new model to accompany the teaser rendering above, but you can expect it to pack a range of gasoline- and diesel-burning four-cylinder engines when it eventually reaches European showrooms. Also, could this hatchback i30 preview what's in store for North America's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/15/hyundai-planning-new-elantra-touring-based-on-2011-elantra-sedan/">upcoming Elantra Touring</a>? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, <a href="/2011/08/10/hyundai-renders-new-i30-unto-frankfurt/#continued">follow the jump</a> for the press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/10/hyundai-renders-new-i30-unto-frankfurt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai renders new i30 unto Frankfurt</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/10/hyundai-renders-new-i30-unto-frankfurt/">Hyundai renders new i30 unto Frankfurt</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 10:59:00 EST. <br />
Fear not, hatchback fans. According to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/hyundai">Hyundai</a> CEO John Krafcik, the next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra">Hyundai Elantra Touring</a> will debut in late 2012 as a 2013 model. Krafcik tells Autoblog that while the Elantra sedan is styled specifically for the American market, the Elantra Touring is being penned with European customers in mind. The company sells a long-roof version of the Elantra in the old country under the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i30">i30</a> banner, but from what we understand, American buyers will get a taste of the next-generation vehicle in about two years.<br />
<br />
"We launched the Elantra touring a couple of years after we launched the Elantra and we're going to have the same model cycle for Elantra Touring here," Krafcik said. "We're going to get the next-generation i30 here in the U.S. market in a couple of years."<br />
<br />
But don't expect the vehicle to share too much DNA with the old long-roof Elantra. Krafcik tells AB that the new Touring will be significantly different from the model on sale right now: "It's a great design. The Elantra Touring design actually came out of our California studio. We're going to go with the shorter five-door hatchback bodystyle instead of the larger wagon style we have now."<br />
<br />
That means that when it debuts, the 2013 Elantra Touring will be squaring off against the likes <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/focus">2012 Ford Focus</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/mazda3">Mazda3</a> in a big way. While no one at Hyundai was willing to say exactly how much fuel economy we can plan on seeing from the five-door Elantra, we'd be surprised to see the figures slip much below the 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway of the sedan. <br />

<br />Car buyers in the US are thinking smaller and more efficient, but probably not small enough for the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Hyundaii10/">Hyundai i10</a>. At least that's the thinking within the top ranks of Korea's largest automaker. The i10 is a micro hatchback that was designed for Euro duty, but could find a niche here in the States. Unfortunately, US customers still aren't snapping up mini cars in any real volume, making it an unattractive proposition for the automaker. Hyundai insists that no final decision has been made, but Hyundai America VP John Krafcik <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/08/21/hyundai-i10-extremely-unlikely-to-come-to-the-us/">said earlier</a> that the i10 is unlikely to be sold in the States.<br /><br />Hyundai is still considering bringing the i20 over to our shores, where it would fit under the Elantra. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/03/paris-preview-hyundai-to-debut-new-i20-sub-compact/">i20 is being unveiled</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ParisMotorShow/">Paris Motor Show</a>, and it will go on sale in Europe by the end of the year. For the short term, Hyundai will import more Elantras from South Korea by November to satisfy our hunger for smaller, more efficient cars.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2">Hyundai i30</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_48_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_47_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080919/ANA02/809199990/1117">Automotive News</a> subs req'd)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/19/hyundai-admits-i10-too-small-for-u-s-i20-and-i30-being-conside/">Hyundai admits i10 too small for U.S., i20 and i30 being considered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 19 Sep 2008 16:59:00 EST. Wayne Killen, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor America says that, dynamically, the Elantra wagon will be positioned as a sporty handling vehicle. Unlike the European i30 wagon, which is powered by 1.6L engines (gasoline or diesel), the US-spec car will receive the same 138-horse 2.0L four-cylinder found in the current Elantra sedan. A 5-speed manual will come standard, with a 4-speed auto available as an option. <br /><br />[Source: Automotive News (Sub Req'd)]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-wagon">Hyundai i30 Wagon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-wagon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/i30wagon_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-wagon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/i30wagon_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-wagon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/i30wagon_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/23/us-bound-hyundai-bringing-i30-wagon-as-elantra-in-08/">US-bound: Hyundai bringing i30 Wagon as Elantra in '08</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 23 Apr 2007 16:02:00 EST. Hyundai is ditching names like Sonata and Accent for alphanumeric designations starting with "i", which Hyundai says stands for Inspiration, Intelligence and Integrity. The Korean carmaker has been improving the quality of its products considerably, but we'll have to sit tight and see how the i30 lives up to the hype. <br /><br />Hyundai gets ahead by providing tons of features in an attractive package at a competitive price, and the i30 promises to live up to that strategy. (You can check out all the details in the press release after the jump.) Engines include 1.6-liter fours with 113 and 120 horsepower and a 2-liter four with 141hp, driving through a 5-speed manual (113 and 120-hp versions), an available 4-speed automatic (in the 113hp version) and a 6-speed for the 2.0.<br /><br />While the i30 is undoubtedly aimed at a younger market than some of its larger and more expensive offerings, Hyundai evidently (and inexplicably) thought five-year-old children would be their target audience and presented the car with a pair of mascots, rather unlike the pair of lookers that took the veil off the QarmaQ. Check out the pics in our high-resolution image gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2">Hyundai i30</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_48_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_47_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/07/geneva-motor-show-hyundai-i30/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Geneva Motor Show: Hyundai i30</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/07/geneva-motor-show-hyundai-i30/">Geneva Motor Show: Hyundai i30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 07:24:00 EST. When we hear "i30", we think <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infiniti_I">first-generation entry-level luxury sedan from Infiniti</a>, but the name as it applies to Hyundai's new small car is supposed to invoke the hipness of the iPod, iMac and iPotatoPeeler. Unfortunately, adding an i to your product's name will not make it sell like an iPod, but at least the Hyundai i30 has some safe if not pleasing lines to partake. It does share a passing resemblence to the newish Kia cee'd, which isn't suprising since the cars are based on the same platform and will offer the same engine lineup that includes 1.4L, 1.6L and 2.0L gas engines and a 1.6L and 2.0L CRDi diesel engine. What do you think, should we be start complaining now that we won't get the i30 over here or is the Elantra good enough? Yeah, we don't think it is, either. <br /><br />[Source: Carscoop]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/22/geneva-sneak-peek-hyundai-i30/">Geneva Sneak Peek: Hyundai i30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 15:33:00 EST.
