A Hyundai Europe insider hinted that the car could be funkier and "more basic and functional" than the iQ. The iQ Concept had a pretty neat interior, but there really isn't much space between it and the backstop of basic transportation - at least, not when it comes to anything you'd want to sit in.<br /><br />Drivetrains and engines haven't been discussed, but the 12-valve 4-cylinder with 66 hp from the i10 would probably be in the cards. Hyundai has said that i10 is too small for the U.S., so the even smaller "green baby" will probably be offered only in Europe at first, and could be on sale by as soon as next year. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=237506">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/31/hyundai-planning-toyota-iq-rival/">Hyundai planning Toyota iQ rival</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 31 Jan 2009 14:07:00 EST. Now that the microcar segment is what's cooking, and the smart fortwo isn't doing so bad on its American voyage, cars like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/great-things-come-in-small-packages-iq-wins-japanese-car-of-th/">Toyota iQ</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/vw-microcar-gets-fast-track-to-production/">Volkswagen up!</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/19/hyundai-admits-i10-too-small-for-u-s-i20-and-i30-being-conside/">Hyundai i10</a> are getting lots of attention.<br /><br />To keep the cost down, Honda is expected to stick to traditional materials and probably focus on packaging. The powerplant is rumored to be a 1.4- or 1.5-liter turbodiesel with anywhere from 60 hp to 100 hp. But before you get excited, this car isn't automatically destined for America. Of course, none of this would-be Honda's competitors are headed this way yet either, and until the microcar trend is firmly established in the US - either by smart or another vehicle - we wouldn't advise holding your breath.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://paultan.org/archives/2009/01/05/honda-japan-confirms-new-a-segment-hatchback-gives-sneak-preview-of-future-products/">Paul Tan</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/rendered-speculation-honda-to-create-mini-hatch-for-emerging-ma/">Rendered Speculation: Honda to create mini-hatch for emerging markets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 19:58:00 EST. <br />Car buyers in the US are thinking smaller and more efficient, but probably not small enough for the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Hyundaii10/">Hyundai i10</a>. At least that's the thinking within the top ranks of Korea's largest automaker. The i10 is a micro hatchback that was designed for Euro duty, but could find a niche here in the States. Unfortunately, US customers still aren't snapping up mini cars in any real volume, making it an unattractive proposition for the automaker. Hyundai insists that no final decision has been made, but Hyundai America VP John Krafcik <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/08/21/hyundai-i10-extremely-unlikely-to-come-to-the-us/">said earlier</a> that the i10 is unlikely to be sold in the States.<br /><br />Hyundai is still considering bringing the i20 over to our shores, where it would fit under the Elantra. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/03/paris-preview-hyundai-to-debut-new-i20-sub-compact/">i20 is being unveiled</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ParisMotorShow/">Paris Motor Show</a>, and it will go on sale in Europe by the end of the year. For the short term, Hyundai will import more Elantras from South Korea by November to satisfy our hunger for smaller, more efficient cars.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/">Hyundai i30</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_48_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_47_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i30-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/i30_43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080919/ANA02/809199990/1117">Automotive News</a> subs req'd)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/19/hyundai-admits-i10-too-small-for-u-s-i20-and-i30-being-conside/">Hyundai admits i10 too small for U.S., i20 and i30 being considered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 19 Sep 2008 16:59:00 EST. The diminutive sedan is just over 140 inches long (about 20 inches shorter than the Honda Fit), powered by an 80 hp, 1.2-liter four that returns up to 56 mpg and retails for between $7,800 and $11,200 in India. Those specs could be enticing for American consumers looking for a simple runabout that's smaller than the Fit/Yaris and larger than the smart fortwo, so Hyundai is seriously considering bringing it to the States.<br /><br />According to a Hyundai source speaking with <em>Automotive News</em>, the i10 would retain its name and could be badged either a Hyundai or a Kia. Output would be increased, and its curb weight would grow by around 400 pounds in order to meet U.S. safety standards. But with features like keyless entry, ABS, dual airbags and fog lamps, the i10 could be a serious consideration for consumers looking for a cheap commuter with the amenities they've grown to expect.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/">Hyundai i10</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini5l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini4l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini3l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini2l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini1l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080818/ANA03/808180340/1117/rss01&amp;rssfeed=rss01">Automotive News</a> - Sub. Manufacturer propaganda always ladles on the glowing prose, but after reading through the specs, we were nodding in approval, too. A quick glance at the pictures had us thinking "<span style="font-style: italic;">modern day Excel,</span>" but that's not the case. Comprehensively equipped, the i30 comes standard with air conditioning, power windows, six-speaker stereo, and four airbags. The 1.1 liter four cylinder, providing about 60 horsepower, returns fuel economy in the 50 miles per gallon (US, 60 mpg Imperial) range, and low emissions. <br /><br />Styling, well, it's in the <span style="font-style: italic;">very small car</span> idiom, and it's not breaking any new ground. Tall and short, the i10 is not ugly, and in these days of $90-plus per barrel oil prices, small is ever more beautiful. The i10 will be exported from India, which will be the sole manufacturing base for the car. With the tight supply of Honda Fits, we could use another A-class ride for low dollars on these shores, maybe if we ask real nice?<br /><br />[Source: Hyundai]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/">Hyundai i10</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini5l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini4l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini3l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini2l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-i10-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/9071031.002.mini1l_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/01/hyundai-i10-revealed-in-india/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai i10 revealed in India</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/01/hyundai-i10-revealed-in-india/">Hyundai i10 revealed in India</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 17:34:00 EST.
