<br />
There's a surprisingly long and storied history of automakers creating <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/suicide/">suicide</a>-themed advertisements. You'd think the companies and their marketing firms would have figured out by now that such ads always result in a swirl of backlash - see examples from <a href="http://autoblog.com/audi/">Audi</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/citroen/">Citro&euml;n</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/gm/">General Motors</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/volkswagen/">Volkswagen</a>, all pasted down <a href="/2013/04/25/hyundai-in-hot-water-over-suicide-themed-commercial/#continued">below</a>, as proof.<br />
<br />
It seems somebody at <a href="http://autoblog.com/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> didn't get the message that many people don't find suicide a laughing matter. A video making the rounds on the web that was, according to Hyundai, produced in the UK, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by pumping exhaust fumes into the passenger compartment of his car. As it turns out, the self-assisted death doesn't quite go according to plan.<br />
<br />
<a href="/2013/04/25/hyundai-in-hot-water-over-suicide-themed-commercial/#continued">Scroll down below</a> to see the ad from Hyundai, a slew of similar spots from other automakers including an official statement from Hyundai. After that, we suggest <a href="http://autos.aol.com/article/hyundai-pulls-suicide-commercial-after-outcry/">reading this piece</a> from our friends at <em>AOL Autos</em> to see how deeply such thoughtless advertisements can affect people.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/25/hyundai-in-hot-water-over-suicide-themed-commercial/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai in hot water over suicide-themed commercial</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/25/hyundai-in-hot-water-over-suicide-themed-commercial/">Hyundai in hot water over suicide-themed commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 25 Apr 2013 16:27:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/hyundai/">Hyundai's</a> home office in Korea has dropped the first frontal image of a new concept that will be shown next week at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> along with some technical details. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/12/graceful-hyundai-i-flow-rendered-ahead-of-geneva-sheet-pulling/">i-Flow</a> is a D-segment sedan meant to go up against cars like the Ford Mondeo in Europe. Under the hood, the i-Flow has Hyundai's first diesel hybrid powertrain including a new 1.7-liter inline-four. The diesel has dual stage turbocharging and is paired up with Hyundai's Blue-drive system using a new six-speed dual clutch gearbox. Like the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/sonata">Sonata</a> hybrid, the i-Flow uses a lithium polymer battery pack. With its drag coefficient of 0.25, the i-Flow is claimed to achieve 78.4 miles per gallon (U.S.) and CO2 emissions of just 85 grams/kilometer. <br />
<br />
Joining the i-Flow onstage will be a refreshed version of the i30 (badged as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/elantra+touring">Elantra Touring</a> in North America) and low emissions "blue" versions of the i10, i20, i30 and ix35 (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/tucson">Tucson</a>). These models receive automatic start-stop, low rolling resistance tires and aero tweaks. The four cars all achieve CO2 ratings under 100 g/km while the crossover ix35 gets 135 g/km. Finally, Hyundai will also show a fuel cell version of the new ix35/<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/hyundai/tucson">Tucson</a> for the first time. Hyundai still plans to produce fuel cell vehicles in the thousands annually by 2012. <br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/hyundai/">Hyundai</a>'s second big unveiling for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> is its next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/tucson">Tucson</a>, its compact crossover. Like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sonata">Sonata</a> sedan, we've actually already seen the Tucson for some time now, as it previously debuted South Korea and Europe badged as the ix35 or Tucson ix. We actually first saw this shape as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept-is-far-more-enticing-than-i/">ix-onic concept at Geneva last March</a> and the production model is only mildly toned down.<br />
<br />
Even toned down, though, this is a major departure from the outgoing Tucson. Like the Sonata, that model was a competent but utterly invisible CUV. The new Tucson was created by Hyundai's Frankfurt-based European design studio and features the same "Fluidic Sculpture" surface language used on the Sonata. Like the sedan, the look is attractive, if not entirely original, as the form seems to draw quite a bit inspiration from the Nissan Murano, especially in the rear. Either way, with its bulging fenders and a multitude of curves and creases, the new style is likely to draw a lot more second glances than its predecessor. Wherever the ideas came from, the Tucson appears to be well-executed overall. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/03/2010-hyundai-tucson-los-angeles-2009-debut/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to learn more Hyundai's latest CUV.<br />

The new Hyundai Tucson ix35 may look good with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/video-kdm-hyundai-tucson-ix-is-a-sexy-utility-vehicle-just-a/">Britney Spears soundtrack</a> playing in the background. It may even look good <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/05/spy-shots-2010-hyundai-tucson-on-u-s-soil-and-camo-free/">out on the road</a>. But under the bright lights here at the Frankfurt Messe, it looks pretty much like every other compact import crossover on the market. Which is to say, attractive, but rather cookie-cutter.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/2010-kdm-hyundai-tucson-is-looking-california-and-naming-arizona/">new Tucson</a> is being offered overseas with 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engines burning either gasoline or diesel (with 166 and 184 horsepower, respectively) and driving either the front wheels or all four through a six-speed automatic slushbox. Among the latest features, Hyundai included are Downhill Brake Control and Hill-Start Assist Control, which almost makes us mistake this for a real sport-utility vehicle. Almost. <br />
<br />
We'll reserve our final judgement for when we actually drive the thing, but in the meantime, you can check out the gallery of live shots below.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Hyundai ix Metro - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></div>
<br /> We've already seen a mini-preview of the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/frankfurt-preview-hyundai-ix35-the-suv-with-mainstream-hatchba/">Hyundai ix35</a> that will be on display at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> in a few weeks, but we're arguably even more interested in the concept vehicles that the company is teasing today. The ix Metro and the i10 Electric will be in Germany to show off the Korean automaker's Blue Drive eco-efforts.<br /> <br /> The ix Metro, above, a gasoline-electric hybrid with C02 emissions of just 80 grams-per-kilometer will make its world debut at the IAA. The amazingly low emissions, especially for a CUV, are the result of a small, 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with direct injection and turbocharging mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission that works with an undescribed battery to move the vehicle.<br /> <br /> The <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/#4">i10 Electric</a> (pictured after the jump and in gallery below) is a zero-emission version of the standard <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2007/11/02/more-on-hyundais-new-i10-city-car-which-spits-under-120-grams/">i10 city car</a> that uses a 16 kWh battery and a 49kW motor for a 100-mile range. Using household 220V charging, the automaker says that the battery can be fully charged in five hours. Hyundai indicates that the BEV is production-ready and will go on sale in its home market in the second half of 2010.<br /> <br /> In addition, Hyundai will also bring the Elantra LPI HEV and Blue Will Plug-In Hybrid Electric, both <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/hyundai-blue-will-hybrid-concept-to-be-unveiled-in-seoul/">previously displayed</a>, to Frankfurt, as well as the Euro version of the redesigned Tucson called the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/2010-kdm-hyundai-tucson-is-looking-california-and-naming-arizona/">ix35</a>. We'll have more live from the show floor on September 15th. <br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up">Hyundai line-up for 2010 Frankfurt Motor Show</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/58524hyu-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="58524hyu-" title="58524hyu-" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/58524-a-hyu-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="58524-a-hyu-" title="58524-a-hyu-" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/58524-b-hyu-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="58524-b-hyu-" title="58524-b-hyu-" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/58524-e-hyu-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="58524-e-hyu-" title="58524-e-hyu-" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/hyundais-frankfurt-line-up/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/58524-c-hyu-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="58524-c-hyu-" title="58524-c-hyu-" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Hyundai]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/frankfurt-preview-hyundai-goes-blue-drive-with-ix-metro-and-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Frankfurt Preview: Hyundai goes Blue (Drive) with ix Metro and i10 Electric</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/frankfurt-preview-hyundai-goes-blue-drive-with-ix-metro-and-i/">Frankfurt Preview: Hyundai goes Blue (Drive) with ix Metro and i10 Electric</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 12:59:00 EST. <br /> It doesn't seem that long ago that Beck was singing about picking up his date in a Hyundai. (Check out "Debra" - best song ever). Only he was kidding. And it was funny. Damn funny, actually. But guess who's laughing now? The Korean automaker has gone from punchline to the fourth largest automaker in the world in just a few years, backed by some seriously improved products. And they're keen to point out their newfound appeal with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/2010-kdm-hyundai-tucson-is-looking-california-and-naming-arizona/">the new iX35/Tucson</a>, the crossover which the capital of Seoul has dubbed the "Sexy Utility Vehicle."<br /> <br /> Not convinced? Just check out the music video/television commercial <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/video-kdm-hyundai-tucson-ix-is-a-sexy-utility-vehicle-just-a/">after the jump</a> featuring the latest Britney Spears hit, "If U Seek Amy" (it's not quite as good as Beck, but at least it's got a beat) - who apparently thinks all of the boys and all of the girls want to do naughty things to the latest Hyundai - and a voiceover at the end that we could swear sounds just like Tom Cruise. Oh, and if you're up on your Korean and care to tell us what the text is on about, feel free in the comments section below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/kdm-2010-hyundai-tucson">KDM 2010 Hyundai Tucson</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/kdm-2010-hyundai-tucson/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/tucson-ix-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/kdm-2010-hyundai-tucson/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/tucson-ix-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDf6UOcPuVE">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/video-kdm-hyundai-tucson-ix-is-a-sexy-utility-vehicle-just-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: KDM Hyundai Tucson iX is a Sexy Utility Vehicle... just ask Britney Spears?!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/video-kdm-hyundai-tucson-ix-is-a-sexy-utility-vehicle-just-a/">VIDEO: KDM Hyundai Tucson iX is a Sexy Utility Vehicle... just ask Britney Spears?!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 12:29:00 EST. Compared to its concept progenitor, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept-is-far-more-enticing-than-i/">ix-onic</a>, the production crossover is pleasingly true to its inspiration. <br /><br />The ix-onic's asymmetric grill mesh has been swapped for three conventional horizontal lamellas. Elsewhere, the edge-tastic treatment of the concept has been toned down but not dispensed with altogether. The boomerang fog lights take a more open shape but still form an angled design element with the headlamps.
