Hunting 101 series from Ram Pickups - host Megan teaches you how to process a deer - video screencap" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2013/02/ram-gear-up.jpg" style="margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; width: 628px; height: 362px;" />

Ram knows that hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts make up a key demographic of its trucks' sales, so late last year it started an Internet hunting video series called Gear Up! on YouTube hosted by a variety of attractive ladies dressed in camouflage. (Ram knows its target audience, eh?).

This series has been going since October, but it caught our eye with a recent episode that gives instructions on how to properly gut (or dress) a deer. There are no graphic images, but Megan (this episode's host) does provide detailed and frank - if slightly surreal - deer-processing tips in a cheerful tone. For example: "Begin sliding your knife up the deer's belly towards its neck" and "sever the final tubes of the rectum." Oh, and this gem: "At this point, you'll need to get a little limber and actually stick your hand and knife up through the hole that is now visible leading into the deer's throat..."

Keep in mind, this is one of the advanced videos, so if you're really trying to learn how to hunt deer, you should start from the earlier, beginner-level videos in this Hunting 101 series. Scroll down if you'd like to learn how to clean a deer carcass Ram-style, and we've even included a few of the other how-to videos (including how to choose a taxidermist!) in this somewhat bizarre lifestyle marketing series.
Continue reading Ram Truck's Gear Up! hunting series teaches you how to gut a deer

Ram Truck's Gear Up! hunting series teaches you how to gut a deer originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 19:58:00 EST.
You expect to find all sorts of optional equipment on a Rolls-Royce. It could be pearl-inlayed veneers or a special paint job. But this example is something else entirely.

Crafted for Sahib Bahadur - also known as Umed Singh II, Maharaja of Kotah - this 1925 Rolls-Royce New Phantom was coachbuilt by Barker & Company of London and includes some rather unusual accessories. Namely, a mounted shotgun, rifle stand, Lantaka cannon, a pair of search lights and a machine gun fitted to a matching trailer.

The car was custom built for the Maharaja for the purpose of tiger hunting, and though requested by the Indian Consulate for donation to a museum, is now going up for auction at the hands of Bonhams at the Quail Lodge mid-August, where it's expected to fetch between $750,000 and $1 milllion.

Though the armaments aren't depicted, you can check the car out in the high-resolution gallery and the press release after the jump for a closer look.
Continue reading Maharaja's tiger-hunting Rolls-Royce brings the firepower to Quail auction

Maharaja's tiger-hunting Rolls-Royce brings the firepower to Quail auction originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Jul 2011 09:29:00 EST.
Ordinarily looking like something you'd expect to see dragging Indiana Jones behind on a rope, the Mercedes-Benz Zetros is not exactly the pinnacle of luxury for which the Silver Star has become known to upscale buyers. But that doesn't mean it can't change.

Two businessmen in Mongolia have ordered a matching pair of the six-wheel-drive cargo truck and had them converted to luxury RVs for use on hunting expeditions. And we're not talking about poaching grouse with a shotgun, either: These guys hunt for wolves. In the Altai mountains. With an eagle. (Seriously, we couldn't make this stuff up - unless of course this is an early April Fool's joke from our friends in Stuttgart.)

For the expeditions, these Zetros customs have been fitted with everything you'd expect on a yacht: Full bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom (complete with shower, marble tiles and under-floor heating). They've got 46-inch flat-screen TV monitors, outdoor grilles, Bose sound systems, self-adjusting motorized satellite dishes, Wi-Fi, even place for an ATV.

A 7.2-liter inline-six diesel engine with 326 horsepower and 960 pound-feet of torque does the pushing/pulling duties, driving all six wheels for a chassis load capacity of 16 metric tons. Which strikes us as exactly what they'll need to schlepp all those electronics and marble tiling around the Mongolian desert. Follow the jump for all the details in the full press blast.
Rather than risk sending 8,000 pounds of daily-driver iron to the bottom of Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, inventor Tom Roering has developed an ideal vehicle for ice-crusted outdoor excursions.

The Wilcraft, an assembly of Water, Ice, and Land, is a 500-pound powdercoated aluminum specialty vehicle that treads lightly enough that your pickup will live to die another day. A 305cc powerplant allows for a 600 pound payload, and a two-speed gearbox delivers a top speed of 20 MPH. Traction comes courtesy of a locking differential. Hunting and ice fishing are what Roering's vehicle excels at, and it turns into a fishing shack once your holes have been augered. A price of $10,495 for this specialized machine might seem steep, until your F-350 reinterprets The Wreck Of The Hesperus.

[Source: Vlane | Photo Source: Wilcraft]

Wilcraft Ice Fishing Car is the Pequod for Icy Ahabs originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 09 Aug 2009 09:04:00 EST.
