Driving your million-dollar supercar or ultra-lux limousine carefully and pridefully on to the well-manicured lawns of a fancy concurs d'elegance is what your old man did, square. Driving your exotic through mud and filth, with fast sideways bits and loads of counter steering is what all the hip kids are up to these days.

Having already experienced the puerile joys of seeing a Rolls-Royce turf a lawn and a Ferrari Enzo slide around the farm, we can now enjoy this Lamborghini Gallardo in the mud and ruts. The video below shows about exactly what you'd expect from WRC-themed title, except for lacking in big air and, you know, really good, fast driving. Still, there's mud. Check it out below.
Continue reading Watch this Lamborghini Gallardo get hooned like a WRC car

Watch this Lamborghini Gallardo get hooned like a WRC car originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 14 Mar 2013 12:45:00 EST.
Tax the Rich, the YouTubers who seem to have sprung from some mischievous corner of the V for Vendetta universe, have somehow acquired a Ferrari Enzo for their latest trick. Last time we checked in with them, they were opposite-locking a Rolls-Royce Phantom at high speed all over a wet, muddy field. Perhaps knowing that if they repeated that with the Ferrari they'd end up with a dead stallion and a field full of carbon fiber parts, they kept the action to a mostly paved farm access road.

But still - using an Enzo for a tarmac rally stage is something we would not have though of, and there's a fair bit of water and mud, too. As Joseph Campanella used to say way back when, "What will they think of next?" Check out the video below and prepare to gaze in equal measures of shock, wonder and horror.
Continue reading Watch this Ferrari Enzo get thrown around on farm roads

Watch this Ferrari Enzo get thrown around on farm roads originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 12 Feb 2013 11:28:00 EST.
Say what you will about Ken Block. The guy knows how to have some fun. He's also pretty good at selling clothing. The hotshoe's latest move to sling t-shirts flies under the Hoonigan banner, where vehicular antics of every sort can safely gather. The crew has worked up a best of compilation video stitching together some of the internet's most infamous cases of drivers behaving badly. Even better, the clips are set to Motorhead's gasoline-fueled "Ace of Spades." Hammer down, ladies and gentlemen.

Now, we enjoy marketing about as much as we like flossing with a ball peen hammer, but if we absolutely have to be peddled future shop rags, it might as well be like this. So, go forth and hoon. Just do it without being stupid or killing anyone. Who knows, maybe your video will show up in the next compilation. Check out the full video for yourself by scrolling below.
Continue reading Watch Hoonigan thank us all for doing what we do best

Watch Hoonigan thank us all for doing what we do best originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 18 Jun 2012 16:56:00 EST. "Fly, my pretty, fly!" - Click above to watch video after the jump

The video posted after the jump shows some good ol' boys, never meaning no harm. They've been causing trouble at Michigan's Silver Lake dunes since the day they were born. And whoever's behind the wheel did cause some harm, however, because this particular Chevrolet Silverado is going to need Cooter's tow truck to get home.

We give the driver major hoon points for the amount of air achieved, though we have to knock off a few points for the amount of destruction caused (and the lack of a Dixieland car horn). Honestly, we're impressed that the right-front suspension and wheel are still attached to this pickup, since it seems to take the brunt of the forces upon landing. Click past the jump to see a Silverado catch some serious air.
Continue reading Chevy Silverado flies high above Dunes of Hazard

Chevy Silverado flies high above Dunes of Hazard originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 03 Jun 2011 15:14:00 EST.
Books are made for reading, boots are made for walking and tires are meticulously engineered for burnouts. As you may or may not be aware, the latest chapter in the Fast and the Furious saga was released this weekend to the rejoicing of testosterone-soaked teenage crowds everywhere. Nowhere was Fast Five more celebrated than in Detroit, as after the final credits rolled, the movie-going masses retired to the parking lot for an impromptu burnout competition.

If you listen very, very closely, you can hear the cries of a million environmentalists.

Nearly everyone got in on the fun, from full-size diesel pickups to front-wheel-drive Chevrolet Malibu models and beater Nissan 240SX projects. Some of the more impressive smoke came courtesy of a Mitsubishi Evolution that retired to a far flung corner of the cinema parking lot to wring out some all-wheel-drive pirouettes. The fun seems to have lasted a good long time before the local PD showed up to put a stop to the party. Miraculously, very little sheetmetal was wrinkled in the smoke.

Hit the jump to see all of the shaky-hand-cam action for yourself, though be warned, some foul language may lurk between tire shrieks.
Continue reading Exactly what you expect to happen in a movie theater parking lot at premier of Fast Five [NSFW]

Exactly what you expect to happen in a movie theater parking lot at premier of Fast Five [NSFW] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 02 May 2011 21:57:00 EST.
Anesthetics are a wonderful thing. Aside from protecting our fragile psyches from the horrors of witnessing a trained professional go all choppin'-broccoli on our insides, they also allow for a certain level of hilarity that's difficult to emulate without the assistance of modern chemistry. Need proof? Look no further than the video after the jump. In it, reader Matt is knocked out cold in preparation for the removal of his wisdom teeth. With his body trapped in an oral surgeon's chair, Matt's mind apparently retreated to the safety of somewhere a little more comforting - somewhere like the driver's seat of his favorite sports car.

While Matt says he has no recollection of the entire surgery, office staff and family members say that he was slamming gears the entire time he was out. We do have to commend him on a well-executed heel-toe downshift, but it looks like that missed shift from third to fourth likely cost him the championship. There's always next year, man. Hit the jump to check out the clip for yourself. Thanks for the good sense of humor and the tip, Matt!

To some, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a demure looking beast, but don't let the classy lines fool you. Beneath that long, elegant nose is a 6.2-liter, 563 horsepower AMG V8 that propels the top Benz to supercar status. But while the SLS can hold its own on the race track against some of the world's finest automobiles, it also has the punch to take on low-brow muscle cars at their own game.

While the folks at Car and Driver no doubt have the resources to hit the track, they instead opted to take the SLS AMG out for some donuts. We're not talking polite, single turn donuts, either. This is the kind of donut that leads to a fast trip to the tire store for some very expensive Continental ContiSportContact rubber. And just for kicks (and visual flair), the C/D gang has left its gullwing doors ajar for maximum tire smoke inhalation. Hit the jump to watch the tire-shredding action for yourself.

It would seem that the only good time Lewis Hamilton had at the Australian Grand Prix was when he was actually smoking the tires of his loaner Mercedes C63 AMG. Once that burnout was complete, though, the wheels came off: Hamilton got nicked by the police under Melbourne's anti-hoon laws, had the car impounded, qualified 11th for the race and finished sixth.

And it's not over: Lewis has been officially charged by a Melbourne court with intentionally losing control of a vehicle. A summons for a court date of August 24 was given to his Australian solicitor, but with the Belgian Grand Prix taking place on August 29 the chance of his appearing on that date seems slim. If nothing else, charging a former Formula 1 world champion - and Swiss resident, to boot - is the best lesson to every non-world-champion out there who plans to visit Melbourne: Do. Not. Hoon. Hat tip to Robert

Australia's ABC News was on hand to document the aftermath of Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton's "over-exuberant" driving, and has been kind enough to share the video with the rest of the world.

As you may recall, Hamilton had his loaner Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG sedan impounded after lighting up the rear tires on public streets. Since Melbourne has notoriously vitriolic anti-hoon laws, the British driver will be facing a stiff fine on top of doing without his car for two days. Something tells us that even after his sixth-place finish at the Australian GP, Hamilton won't have any trouble finding another set of wheels. Hit the jump to see the action.

In the beginning, there was a yellow Yugo GV. And when the folks at Vprache Racing cast their eyes over it, they thought it was missing something. So they gave it an 3.5-liter BMW inline six-cylinder transplant and added a turbo besides. And an intercooler mounted on the grille. And a high-rise lift job. Then they took it hooning. And that was the end of the first day.

When that wasn't enough, they added another turbo and fashioned arches to cover the exposed rubber. And then they took it drag racing. And that was the end of the second day. You can check out videos of the car in both iterations after the jump. That's over 8,000 cars in three years, more than 5,000 of which the police still have. Despite those big numbers, Victorian Peter Black has the distinct honor of being the first Aussie to surrender two different cars in two years for hooning.

While our instincts generally tend to sympathy any time a car is taken away, we can't feel sorry for Black because he's guilty of criminal vanity: he broke the law and then posted the video of it online. That led to someone alerting the police as to the video's existence, and in turn, to the authorities alerting Black that he could hand over the keys to his Ford Falcon ute. How many times do we have to say it? Drive safely. If you don't, please keep it to yourself.

Black's case goes in a similar file to Aussie Joshua Shelton's - the 19-year-old had his arm amputated after a high speed crash, then had his license taken away after he was busted two months later doing donuts, and then he got busted this week twice in an hour for two different "hoon-related activities" while he was a passenger. These kids today...

[Source: Herald Sun]
Aussie gets second car yanked under anti-hoon laws after posting antics on Facebook originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 18:29:00 EST. Now there's rubber writing -- otherwise known as "skid art" -- which you do with your car and a rapidly spinning set of rear wheels. The video game Project Gotham Racing 4 apparently has an area or level where you can practice your tarmac penmanship, unbeknownst to us.

As you can see in the example above from Auto Express, we don't think it will replace Krylon aerosols any time soon, as efforts appear to be written in the hand of a monstrous 6-year-old. It also lends itself to simpler letters -- you won't be laying down Dante any time soon. And painting a canvas in anything other than black is out of the question for a while. But if you've got some rear-wheel HP lying around, and you really want to get a message across, well, it could be just the thing.

[Source: Auto Express]
Burning rubber has become an art form originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 20:01:00 EST. He was so offended, in fact, that he hurled a water bottle at a woman's car and promptly got himself charged with malicious damage. Since nothing can ever be anyone's fault, the Sydney man is blaming his behavior on the Roads and Traffic Authority's anti-speeding campaign in Australia that diminishes any macho cachet surrounding risky traffic moves by showing wagging pinky fingers, implying the behavior is compensation for, well, you know.

Simon Jardak received an AUS$400 fine, but contends that the wiggling pinky gesture his victim made was akin to sexual assault, and enraged him far more than her flashing her headlights and using other common rude gestures. Whatever, dude. Are you that insecure? If you're having a gestural fight with another driver while rolling down the highway, you deserve whatever rudeness you get. What amounts to a schoolyard taunt certainly doesn't deserve having things hurled at your car. Perhaps Mr. Jardak needs to cool his temper a bit - we can certainly imagine that anyone reckless enough to engage in an argument on the road and throw things at other cars might not be the most responsible driver.

[Source: Drive.com.au]

Aussie's anti-speeding campaign causes road rage instead originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Nov 2007 11:02:00 EST.
