<br />
Taking a detailed look at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/">Honda</a> lineup in the US, it isn't hard to see the strength of some models and the weaknesses of others. A recent report on <em>Autoline Daily</em> points out that its five core models - the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/accord/">Accord</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/civic/">Civic</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/cr-v/">CR-V</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/odyssey/">Odyssey</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot/">Pilot</a> - make up a full 93 percent of Honda's sales in the US. Through April, Honda has sold 419,798 vehicles, and 389,474 of them were from these core models; not to mention the fact that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/01/april-2013-showers-edition/">Accord was the top-selling car</a> in the US last month.<br />
<br />
This means that Honda could technically cut six of its 11 models and only lose about 5,000 sales per month. Of course, this is just some data crunching and there is no reason to believe that Honda is planning to kill off any of its models in the near future. In fact, it seems to be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/30/honda-na-president-re-recommits-to-ridgeline/">committed to the Ridgeline</a>, while Japanese-made models that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/11/honda-losing-money-on-japan-built-cars-like-fit-cr-z-and-insi/">may actually lose money for Honda </a> still fill unique voids. <a href="/2013/05/17/honda-could-halve-its-us-lineup-without-crimping-its-sales-much/#continued">Scroll down</a> for the video report - fast-forward to the 1:43 mark for the Honda info.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/18/honda-could-halve-its-us-lineup-without-crimping-its-sales-much/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Honda could halve its US lineup without crimping its sales much [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/18/honda-could-halve-its-us-lineup-without-crimping-its-sales-much/">Honda could halve its US lineup without crimping its sales much [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 15:13:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/">Honda</a> is recalling 871,000 SUVs and minivans for an issue in which the vehicles may roll away after the key has been removed from the ignition. Ninety-two percent of the recalled vehicles, or 807,000 vehicles, are in the US. According to a report from <em>Reuters</em>, the effected vehicles include certain numbers of the Honda <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/odyssey/">Odyssey</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot/">Pilot</a>, as well as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/acura/mdx/">Acura MDX</a>. Here are the recall figures:<br />
<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>2003-2004 Honda Odyssey: </strong>318,000 vehicles</li>
	<li>
		<strong>2003-2004 Honda Pilot:</strong> 259,000 vehicles</li>
	<li>
		<strong>2003-2005 Acura MDX: </strong>230,000 vehicles</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Additional Honda vehicles outside US:</strong> 64,000</li>
</ul>
The specific issue at the center of the recall pertains to the ignition interlock. A part of that system could become damaged or worn. As a result, the key could be removed, even if the car's transmission is in drive or the vehicle is still on.<br />
<br />
A <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/07/honda-pilot-odyssey-models-investigated-for-rollaway-risk/">probe was opened</a> into the issue after the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> received 43 complaints, including several reported injuries. NHTSA found that the vehicles in these complaints rolled off, and some hit parked cars, fences, trees and mailboxes. One owner even reported a fractured fibula sustained while trying to stop an Odyssey that was rolling away. In February of 2013, Honda will commence the distribution of recall noticed to the vehicles in question.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/12/honda-recalling-871-000-suvs-and-minivans-over-rollaway-fear/">Honda recalling 871,000 SUVs and minivans over rollaway fear</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2012 13:01:00 EST. <br />
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is evidently keeping itself very busy these days, as the federal agency has just announced it is launching or renewing investigations into <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/">Toyota</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/">Honda</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gmc/">General Motors</a> crossovers.<br />
<br />
2006-2008 model year <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/rav4/">Toyota RAV4</a> crossovers are under review for allegations of rear tie-rod rust which can result in failure. NHTSA also said it is probing some <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectsummary2.cfm?inv_id=24364&amp;type=VEHICLE&amp;typenum=1&amp;cmpt_id=1145&amp;prod_id=396659&amp;make=HONDA&amp;model=PILOT&amp;model_yr=2005">35 complaints</a> about 2005 Honda <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot/">Pilot</a> models with inappropriate activation of the vehicles' stability control system. The alleged malfunction can cause the vehicles to slow down or stop in bad unsafe situations. At the moment, NHTSA is reviewing a petition regarding the Pilot issue, a move that will determine whether it needs to open a full-blown investigation.<br />
<br />
In addition, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/saturn/outlook/">Saturn Outlook</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gmc/acadia/">GMC Acadia</a> three-row crossovers built in 2007-2009 are getting <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectsummary2.cfm?inv_id=24044&amp;type=VEHICLE&amp;typenum=1&amp;cmpt_id=217&amp;prod_id=284655&amp;make=SATURN&amp;model=OUTLOOK&amp;model_yr=2008">looked at</a> for "loss of low beam headlamp" function. One complainant said the wiring in his Outlook overheated and melted. NHTSA says it has received 415 complaints about the problem and a GM spokesman confirmed that the automaker already started a "Customer Satisfaction Program" in December to address the issue.<br />
<br />
Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons tells the <em>The Detroit News</em>, "We will fully cooperate with its [NHTSA] investigation." At least four of the complaints about the RAV4 claimed the tie rod failed at speeds above 35 mph, resulting in a loss of control. The <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectsummary2.cfm?inv_id=24487&amp;type=VEHICLE&amp;typenum=1&amp;cmpt_id=45&amp;prod_id=216056&amp;make=TOYOTA&amp;model=RAV4&amp;model_yr=2006">NHTSA investigation summary</a> states, "Pictures provided by some complainants show the wheel adjacent to the failed component severely out of wheel alignment with respect to toe and camber."<br />

<br />
<a href="http://autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda Motor Co.</a> is recalling nearly 347,000 examples of its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot/">Pilot</a> crossovers worldwide for a potential issue with the front seatbelts.<br />
<br />
Honda says the recall, which affects 2009-2011 model year Pilot models built in Alabama, is "due to a manufacturing error on a small number of front seat belts, where the stitching connecting the lap section of the belt to the outboard anchor webbing may be incomplete or missing." The affected seatbelts could disconnect from the anchor webbing in an accident, increasing the risk of an injury.<br />
<br />
Honda will contact Pilot owners in early October and will inspect the stitching on front seatbelts of the recalled vehicles. Assemblies will be replaced free of charge if Honda deems them to be defective. Honda says almost 311,000 of the recalled Pilot models are registered in the U.S., 10,000 in Canada, 8,000 in Mexico and the rest in other countries. Fortunately, Honda says no injuries or deaths have been reported related to this issue. Check out Honda's official statement <a href="/2011/09/12/honda-recalls-347-000-pilot-models-over-seatbelt-issue/#continued">after the jump</a> for more information.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/12/honda-recalls-347-000-pilot-models-over-seatbelt-issue/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Honda recalls 347,000 Pilot models over seatbelt issue</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/12/honda-recalls-347-000-pilot-models-over-seatbelt-issue/">Honda recalls 347,000 Pilot models over seatbelt issue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 10:00:00 EST. <br />
A nip, a tuck and, actually, quite a bit more is in store for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot/">2012 Honda Pilot</a>. The most noticeable change that's evident with a quick glance above is the reworked front end staring you in the face. <a href="http://autoblog.com/honda">Honda</a> has changed the grille while also making the lower fascia appear wider through the use of black plastic. Overall, the front end updates help to subtly modernize the Pilot for the new model year.<br />
<br />
Inside, Honda has reworked its button layout into a more intuitive configuration, and applied new upgrades to the list of standard and optional features. The upgrades vary across the trim lines, which are ranked LX, EX, EX-L, EX-L with Navigation and the top-of-the-line Touring model. We'll leave the full slew of upgrades for you in the press release <a href="/2011/09/01/honda-reveals-modestly-tweaked-2012-pilot/#continued">posted after the jump</a>. Instead, we'll use this space to highlight the biggest changes to the 2012 Pilot.<br />
<br />
Honda has decided to push 18-inch aluminum wheels as standard equipment throughout the Pilot family, with the exception of the LX trim, which sticks with 17-inch styled steelies. An upgraded audio system and nav unit is now offered, and it's spiffed up quite a bit on the EX-L (L stands for leather) unit thanks to a full-color eight-inch intelligent multi-information display (iMID).<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda">Honda</a> is giving the company's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot">Pilot</a> a mild refresh for 2012. The SUV will ditch its bulky front fascia for a slightly more restrained nose with a three-bar grille replacing the thick-chrome grin of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/05/2011-honda-pilot-4wd-touring-review-road-test/">2011 model</a>. In addition, Honda plans to squeeze a little more fuel efficiency out of the SUV with a new transmission, saying it will boast the highest EPA-estimated mileage of any three-row crossover. The old five-speed automatic gearbox has been replaced with six-speed unit for 2012.<br />
<br />
Honda is throwing in a few interior updates as well. Buyers will be able to enjoy a slightly massaged cabin, complete with an updated navigation system and stereo to match. Finally, new paint colors and wheel options will round out the changes.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-honda-ridgeline-sport/"><img alt="2012 Honda Ridgeline Sport" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/07/2012ridgelinesportlead.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px; float: right;" /></a>In addition to the revised Pilot, Honda has also added a new Sport model to its familiar <a href="http://autoblog.com/honda/ridgeline">Ridgeline</a> for 2012. Above the Ridgeline RT standard features, the Sport will get exclusive black 18-inch alloy wheels, black honeycomb grille, standard fog lights, black headlight and brake light housings, and black mirrors and door handles. The 2012 Ridgeline goes on sale November 2011; the Pilot a few months earlier.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><small>KBB.com names its 20 Most-Researched vehicles for 2010 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></div>
<br />
Kelly Blue Book has compiled a list of the most researched new vehicles for 2010, as well as brands that hold the greatest market share of interest. The Honda Accord, Civic and Toyota Camry claim the top three spots -- not a surprise if you've been reading this list the last few years. Since 2004, the same three vehicles have garnered the most attention at KBB.com.<br />
<br />
While it's not a surprise to see those three, it's a nice change of pace for a few newcomers to the list. The Hyundai Sonata was 29th overall last year, but has risen 24 spots to claim the title of fifth most-researched vehicle for 2010. Not everyone rose this year, of course. Two notable vehicles, the Toyota Prius and Corolla, dropped a few spots compared to 2009. <br />
<br />
It's not all bad news for Toyota, however, because KBB.com also takes a look at each brand's market share of interest among new car buyers. Toyota leads the way at 13.4 percent, with Honda, Ford, Chevrolet and Nissan rounding out the top five in that order.<br />
<br />
Here's how the Top 20 Most-Researched Vehicles for 2010 breaks down:<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda">Honda</a> has announced another round of recalls for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/accord">2011 Accord</a>. Both the coupe and sedan, along with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot">2011 Pilot</a>, have been discovered to be susceptible to a failure in the front suspension. According to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa">National Highway Transportation Safety Administration</a>, the bolts that attach the front dampers to the suspension may not have been properly tightened.<br />
<br />
In addition, the spindle nuts on the Pilot and Accord V6 may be loose as well, and both issues could cause a loss of steering. NHTSA says that 10,823 units are impacted by the recall. That number joins the 9,300 Accord and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/cr-v">CR-V</a> models that are currently being <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-accord-sedan/#3116469">investigated for possible oil leaks</a> due to an improperly cast portion of the engine.<br />
<br />
According to <em>USA Today</em>, the newest problem is due to a malfunction in the software that controls the machines that tighten bolts at the factory. Dealers will inspect and replace the damper bolts and spindle nuts if necessary free of charge, and owners can expect to be notified as soon as December 23, 2010. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/23/report-honda-recalling-10-800-accord-and-pilot-models-over-pote/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to have a look at the recall notice for yourself.<br />

<br />
One of HGTV's most popular shows is called House Hunters, where your average Joe and Jane Public take a look at two or three homes and ultimately end up purchasing their dream abode. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/chevrolet/">Chevrolet</a> wanted to get in on this game and its teamed up with the network to develop the Car Hunters Challenge. You see where this is going, right?<br />
<br />
Cameras are everywhere and the supposedly unbiased reactions of the car shoppers are recorded. How are they able to get to the real opinions regarding the Chevy-supplied cars? Independent research company GfK is asking the questions, and the car buyers also look at equivalent models from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a>. In the mid-size segment, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/malibu">Chevy Malibu</a> took on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/camry">Toyota Camry</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/accord">Honda Accord</a>. A <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/equinox">Chevrolet Equinox</a> lined up next to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/rav4">Toyota RAV4</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/cr-v">Honda CR-V</a> for the compact crossover shoppers. In the mid-size crossover group, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/traverse">Chevy Traverse</a> duked it out with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/highlander">Toyota Highlander</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot">Honda Pilot</a>.<br />
<br />
The Car Hunters Challenge ultimately ended up speaking with 70 people, but how did the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bow+tie">Bow-Tie</a> brand fair? It took a gamble on the entire project but walked away happy after 43 new-car shoppers gave Chevrolet vehicles the thumbs up. By our grade-school math, that equates to a D-. However, it's entirely possible they grade on the nursing school curve. Regardless, it's interesting to see an automaker take a risk like this and the see the results play in its favor.<br />
<br />
You can catch the Car Hunters Challenge spots in commercial form during episodes of House Hunters or watch episodes on the web courtesy of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.hgtv.com/car-hunters-challenge/package/index.html">HGTV website</a>. <br />
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has completed a <a href="http://www.iihs.org/ratings/roof/detailsbyclass.aspx">round of rollover testing on 12 mid-sized SUVs</a> (though most are technically CUVs, but whatevs), and the results show that some carmakers are exceeding federal rollover standards. Six of the haulers scored a Good rating, led by the 2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/liberty">Jeep Liberty</a>, one scored Acceptable, and the remaining five were Marginal. The Good rating means a tested car has a roof that is twice as strong as the current government safety standard.<br />
<br />
Five of the top six - the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/equinox">Chevrolet Equinox</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/grand+cherokee">2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/highlander">Toyota Highlander</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/venza">Venza</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/kia/sorento">Kia Sorento</a> - also scored Good marks for front-, side- and rear-occupant protection, and so earn the coveted classification of being an IIHS Top Safety Pick. If your CUV isn't listed, fear not, as the IIHS is testing them in groups. <br />
<br />
Follow the jump for the full release, and you can have a look at the entire batch of tested vehicles in the high-res gallery below.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda</a> scored a decent U.S. sales month in April, with overall results up by 13 percent. But what has company insiders excited isn't strong <a href="http://autoblog.com/honda/accord">Accord</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/civic">Civic</a> sales. Honda's light trucks, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/pilot">Pilot</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/odyssey">Odyssey</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/cr-v">CRV</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ridgeline">Ridgeline</a>, were up 33 percent compared to April of 2009. Those vehicles comprise many of the most expensive vehicles in the Honda lineup, and a healthy source of profits.<br />
<br />
<em>Automotive News</em> reports that Honda VP John Mendel called light truck sales "spry," adding that truck sales are up for several automakers, signaling that the U.S. sales downturn may be waning. Mendel also points to low inventory as a good sign for Honda, with light trucks sitting at a very low 42 day supply, down five days from March 1st levels. And while you've likely seen Honda's recent ads touting unprecedented incentives, keep in mind that light trucks are still at low incentive levels.<br />
<br />
That's undoubtedly good news for Honda and its dealer body, yet Mendel reportedly cautions that dealers shouldn't get too giddy over the numbers. In the short term, though, the Honda VP intimated that some dealers may need to add salespeople as the auto industry continues to improve.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Toyota Prius - MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award winner for Best of the Year</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> By February of each year, we are always right in the middle of awards season, and no, we're not talking about the Golden Globes, Grammys or Oscars. We are, of course, referring to Car and Truck of the Year awards, Ten Best lists and the like. A brace of trophies had already been handed out at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/detroit-auto-show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> and here at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chicago-auto-show/">Chicago Auto Show</a>, a few more champions were crowned. As you might imagine, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a> is usually an oft-mentioned brand during this time of year, but we figured this year might be a little different.<br /> <br /> Coming on the heels of several high profile recall announcements by Toyota, one might expect the once-bulletproof Japanese carmaker to at least get more careful consideration when handing out the hardware. Well, even if they have gone through closer scrutiny, that hasn't stopped multiple outlets from still rewarding them for their products. Television show <em>MotorWeek</em> just announced their Drivers' Choice Award winners, and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/prius">Toyota Prius</a> is their choice for best Eco-Friendly vehicle. It also claimed the title of Best of the Year overall, making it their top pick of the 2010 models.<br /> <br /> Other category winners are listed below and there's a long press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/10/chicago-2010-bad-timing-dept-prius-motorweek-drivers/">after the jump</a> that includes a statement by <span style="font-style: italic;">MotorWeek</span> host and producer John Davis. While it was probably difficult to change their minds so late in the game, the statement by Davis explaining their rationale in choosing the Prius seems to have been written some time before Toyota started making so many headlines: "If you can only buy one car for your family, the 2010 Prius is the one," said Davis. "The Prius is a no-compromise vehicle that offers impressive efficiency, cutting edge technology, smart packaging and truly iconic styling." <br /> <br /> While all of that might still apply, it's bad timing if nothing else to be handing out a top award to the Prius. In that spirit, Davis added an additional statement to clarify and defend the show's selection. In it he explained that while <span style="font-style: italic;">MotorWeek</span> had two different Prius hybrids in their care for several months, nothing ever went wrong with them and that the show is confident that the problems will be satisfactorily addressed by Toyota.<br /> <br /> MotorWeek was certainly not alone on that front however, as Toyota has recently been lauded by several other organizations as well. In Japan, for instance, Toyota was honored with a government energy efficiency award. Interestingly, the company chose to decline that award, though, saying that "the honor is not appropriate for a car hit by massive recalls," according to MSNBC.<br /> <br /> Without further ado, here are the <span style="font-style: italic;">MotorWeek</span> Drivers' Choice Award winners:<br />

<br />My family has fallen in love with Bruno. Yes, we named it. Clearly, the Honda Pilot has left an impression. Size is the first thing you notice, solidity the second - there's not a whiff of the gelatin-jiggles that afflict most of this CUV's body-on-frame competitors. The Pilot is also loaded up with thoughtful, family-friendly touches everywhere you look. It's big, accommodating, and solid. What else? Follow the jump to find out.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring">In The Autoblog Garage - 2009 Honda Pilot Touring</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09pilot_abgr_an_hi_01_dr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09pilot_abgr_an_hi_02_dr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09pilot_abgr_an_hi_15_dr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09pilot_abgr_an_hi_22_dr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/09pilot_abgr_an_hi_35_dr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2009 Honda Pilot Touring</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-honda-pilot-touring/">Review: 2009 Honda Pilot Touring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 12:58:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click on the image above to watch video of Howie Long irking non-GM fans</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Howie Long has set blogger keyboards ablaze with invective. The former footballer's starring role in Campbell-Ewald's latest spots for General Motors has some in a froth. We think the spots are funny - calling out the Ford F-150's "Man-Step," picking on a heated steering wheel, and pointing out that Chevrolet's new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-chevrolet-traverse-lt/">Traverse crossover</a> holds a demonstration load that the Honda Pilot can't accommodate. BrandFreak's Kenneth Hein took particular exception with the Pilot spot, spouting off with a post about how his Pilot has tons of storage space. Yes, it does, Ken, but the Traverse has more (there's something about an extra 14 inches in length that leads to that sort of thing). The best part is when one of the actors shows up in BrandFreak's comments, telling it like it is. We expect this kind of fervor from Scion xB owners; but is it really necessary to call Howie Long an arrogant ass? Decide for yourself, spots posted after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.brandfreak.com/2009/01/howie-long-becomes-an-arrogant-ass-in-new-chevy-campaign.html">BrandFreak</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/much-ado-about-howie-chevrolet-traverse-spots-cause-some-conste/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Chevrolet Traverse spots cause much ado about Howie</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/much-ado-about-howie-chevrolet-traverse-spots-cause-some-conste/">VIDEO: Chevrolet Traverse spots cause much ado about Howie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 12:27:00 EST. Hurt by the sky-high price of gasoline, both the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/21/2008-honda-accord-arrives-with-minor-upgrades/">Odyssey</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/15/first-drive-2009-honda-pilot/">Pilot</a>, both recently redesigned, are sitting on dealers lots longer than Honda would like. In order to match production with consumer demand, Honda will close its plant in Lincoln, Alabama for two days next month and cut second shift production at the plant every Friday in August through October. Displaced workers can choose to take either unpaid time off or use paid vacation leave. Some of that unused capacity will be taken up by the Ridgeline, which <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/03/honda-shifts-ridgeline-production-from-canada-t-alabama/">will now be assembled</a> at the Lincoln plant instead of in Ontario where it is currently being built.<br /><br />The Civic, on the other hand, will see its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/29/honda-shuffles-production-so-it-can-make-more-civics/">production boosted</a> at the East Liberty, Ohio plant and in Alliston, Ontario, where capacity will be available due to the Ridgeline's departure. Score another point for Honda's modular manufacturing techniques.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot">First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080721/ANA02/183381259/1176">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/21/honda-cuts-odyssey-and-pilot-production-makes-room-for-more-civ/">Honda cuts Odyssey and Pilot production; makes room for more Civics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 18:01:00 EST. Honda's controversially styled Ridgeline truck is about to get the Pilot's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/28/2009-honda-pilot-designer-says-number-crunchers-won-out/">controversial snout</a>. First released for the '06 model year, the unibody truck has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/05/honda-releases-2008-ridgeline-details/">not seen</a> any real changes to this point and it's high time for a mid-cycle model refresh. Considering that the Pilot and Ridgeline share plenty in common, it's no shocker that Honda would share styling cues between the two vehicles. Also included in the refresh are some oddly-placed dual front foglights, new tail lights and redesigned bumpers front and rear. Not much seems updated in its profile, but some new 18-inch rims have a nice, chunky look to them. <br /><br />So far, nobody at Honda is talking regarding powertrain updates for the Ridgeline. As we've reported in the past, though, a new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/11/honda-to-bring-diesel-v6-to-u-s/">diesel V6</a> engine of undertermined displacement seems very possible for both the Ridgeline and Pilot. With gas prices continuing to rise, Honda's Ridgeline may continue to be a popular option for those who use their trucks only for occasional hauling or towing and don't mind being seen in one ugly mutha trucka.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=770462">Temple of VTEC</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/23/spy-shots-2010-honda-ridgeline-gets-pilot-schnoz/">Spy Shots: 2010 Honda Ridgeline gets Pilot schnoz</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 15:57:00 EST. Chief Designer Dave Marek <a href="http://wardsauto.com/ar/honda_designer_believes/">has to say</a> regarding the 2009 redesign of the popular <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/15/first-drive-2009-honda-pilot/">Honda Pilot</a> CUV, we sense that he might not think of the boxy model as his team's best work. We've heard our fair share of comments regarding the new Pilot's design, many of which are less than flattering. It seems as if Marek has heard the same detractors, and he explains away some of the more controversial elements, such as the floating front grille. Marek says of the grille, "[it] was a case of taking something that was on something else... and kind of massaging it to fit. On the mockup, [it] looks good. When you actually manufacture it, oops! That's actually what happened. It's hard to foresee." He follows that statement with, "I think when (the '09) is out on the road, people will appreciate it." Reading between the lines, it sounds like this may be a design of which he's not particularly proud. <em>Thanks for the tip, Robert!<br /><br /></em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot">First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><em><br /></em>[Source: <a href="http://wardsauto.com/ar/honda_designer_believes/">Wards Auto</a>]<em></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/28/2009-honda-pilot-designer-says-number-crunchers-won-out/">2009 Honda Pilot designer says number-crunchers won out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 28 May 2008 16:33:00 EST. Regardless of how you think it looks, the newest crossover from Honda is a pretty darn good vehicle. So, we're rather happy to report that Honda saw fit to hold the line on pricing compared to its previous-generation 2008 Pilot. Starting at $27,595, plus destination and handling, the base model Pilot for '09 starts off at exactly the same point of entry as the 2008 edition. Next up is the Pilot EX at $30,395, while the leather-equipped Pilot EX-L will run you $33,595. At the top, the new Pilot Touring edition, which includes standard navigation, starts at $36,795. Four-wheel-drive adds $1,600 to the price of any trim and takes a small bite out of EPA fuel economy with the Pilot coming in at 17/23 (19 combined) miles per gallon on two-wheel-drive models and 16/22 (18 combined) miles per gallon on four-wheel-drive models.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot">First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Honda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/2009-honda-pilot-holds-the-line-on-pricing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2009 Honda Pilot holds the line on pricing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/2009-honda-pilot-holds-the-line-on-pricing/">2009 Honda Pilot holds the line on pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 21 May 2008 13:58:00 EST. <div align="center"><strong><em><small>2009 Honda Pilot - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />When the new 2009 Honda Pilot turned up as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-next-gen-honda-pilot-prototype-appear/">a concept</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> in January, most observers were decidedly underwhelmed. Unlike many other recent crossovers, notably the GM Lambdas, Honda chose to go with a decidedly more utilitarian look for the second-generation Pilot. As Honda officials explained when we gathered for a preview drive of the 2009 Pilot, they wanted to retain the "Utility" in CUV and a big part of that involved maximizing the useful interior volume within the Pilot's relatively modest exterior dimensions. That means a boxy shape that provides room for up to eight (at least as defined by the seat-belts) inside. <br id="ej_-" /><br id="g-2_" />While the Pilot won't be challenging the Buick Enclave or Mazda CX-9 for style points, it isn't too painful on the eyes. It's more a case of being almost invisible. The greenhouse is actually strongly reminiscent of the first generation Jeep Liberty, only longer. In spite of the rather barn like shape, it's actually more aerodynamic than the original Pilot, resulting in substantially less wind noise. In fact, the Pilot has a whole range of improvements that reduce noise, which we'll explore a bit later. There are also some things that might be considered a step backwards. Read on after the jump to learn about our first drive in the new Pilot. <br id="fe85" /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot">First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-dr-five-2009-ho-nda-pilot/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/2009-pilot-first-drive-1280-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C) 2008 Sam Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><br id="komj" /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/15/first-drive-2009-honda-pilot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/15/first-drive-2009-honda-pilot/">First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 15 Apr 2008 02:47:00 EST.
