<br /> For the aftermarket scene, SEMA isn't the only show in town. Well, in that particular town - Las Vegas, that is - maybe, but not in the world. Europe's got Essen, and Japan's got the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Tokyo-Auto-Salon/">Tokyo Auto Salon</a>. With the latter fast approaching, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda</a> has revealed what they've got up their sleeves for this year.<br /> <br /> First is the Insight Sports Modulo Concept you see above. Based on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda/insight">Insight</a> hybrid, the concept demonstrates what Honda's Modulo customization range can do for the company's Toyota Prius rival. And if the idea of tricking out a hybrid seems strange to you, remember that this is the automaker that just gave us the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/11/detroit-2010-honda-cr-z-promises-to-bring-driving-joy-to-the-hy/">CR-Z</a>.<br /> <br /> Alongside the Insight show car, Honda Access Corporation (the accessorizing division of the motor company) will also showcase tricked-out versions of its Freed minivan and Life kei car, and a handful of other customized vehicles Honda offers in the Japanese Domestic Market. Considering how popular Hondas are with the tuner crowd, that should come as no great surprise, but you can read about them in the press release after the jump and view them in the high-res image gallery below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon">Honda Tuner Concepts for 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/6361527_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/6655482_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/8385677_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/5815899_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-tuner-concepts-for-2010-tokyo-auto-salon/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/2437351_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Honda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/13/honda-to-show-insight-sports-modulo-concept-more-at-tokyo-auto/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Honda to show Insight Sports Modulo Concept, more at Tokyo Auto Salon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/13/honda-to-show-insight-sports-modulo-concept-more-at-tokyo-auto/">Honda to show Insight Sports Modulo Concept, more at Tokyo Auto Salon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 15:01:00 EST. The same one who developed a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/20/ticket-to-ride-honda-develops-auto-max-22-vehicle-rail-car/">new rail car</a> for the same reason. The Japanese automaker has developed a new airbag it claims will give drivers better protection in accidents. The shaped bag uses a spiral seam to induce more even inflation, which provides a larger surface area and creates uniform pressure around the bag more quickly than in a conventional airbag system. Thus, the driver is cushioned sooner. The i-SRS system also uses a gas release valve that helps control airbag deployment and pressure, and holds the gas inside the bag until a preset time. The technology is already slated to appear on the Honda Life in Japan this November.<br /><br /><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/4080918b_06_opt.jpg" alt="" />Outside the vehicle, Honda will be adding a new multi-view camera to the upcoming JDM Odyssey, much like Nissan's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/12/nissan-releases-details-about-around-view-monitor/">Around View Monitor</a>. Four wide-angle CCD cameras will be placed in the front, back, and on the side mirrors. Each view can be seen individually or combined for a computer generated aerial shot of the car's movements. Because they're wide angle, Honda has also incorporated a view with the front camera that extends the driver's line of sight in low-visibility intersections, such as when exiting a parking garage (see right pic). It sounds similar to the front-mounted camera system on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-rolls-royce-phantom/">Rolls-Royce Phantom</a>. Unfortunately there's no word on when either technology will come to the U.S. <em>Thanks for the tip, phaedra!</em><br /><br />[Source: Honda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/18/only-honda-new-i-srs-airbag-system-and-birds-eye-camera/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Only Honda: New i-SRS Airbag System and Bird's Eye camera</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/18/only-honda-new-i-srs-airbag-system-and-birds-eye-camera/">Only Honda: New i-SRS Airbag System and Bird's Eye camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 16:29:00 EST. Previously, they held a 34.5% share. Higher fuel prices have resulted in a greatly increased demand for mincars, which receive special tax considerations from the government and combine fuel-efficiency, excellent use of space, and fairly surprising levels of equipment in remarkably compact packages at competitive prices.<br /><br />This year has seen the introduction of a passel of new and/or redesigned kei cars in Japan from just about every marque, each exceeding initial sales projections almost without fail. The additional investment in Yachiyo by Honda is a very strong indicator that the auto giant doesn't see demand slowing down anytime soon.<br /><br />Kei cars are restricted to 660cc engines, which produce around 52 horsepower in normally-aspirated form and 64 horses (the maximum allowable in this class) in turbo guise. They are generally offered with a choice of 2WD or 4WD drivetrains as well. <br /><br /><strong>Related Items:</strong><br />
