Honda Commercial

Honda is looking toward the future. A new Japanese ad for the company has made its way to YouTube featuring some of the most important models in the automaker's past. From lowly bicycles and small-displacement motorcycles to the ever-sexy 1965 RA272 F1 car and perfectly proportioned S800, the ghosts of yesterday are all lined up behind the new Acura NSX Concept. The spot spends plenty of time talking about the power of dreams and determination before finally ending on the rally cry of "Let's surpass yesterday's Honda!" The simple spot is titled "We won't be beaten."

At least that's according to the subtitles. The announcer could be reading us his grocery list for all we know. If the translation is accurate, though, it sounds like Honda is tacitly acknowledging that it needs to pull itself up by its bootstraps and get back into fighting shape. Like Elvis and Tupac before him, Apple icon Steve Jobs is showing up in all kinds of unexpected places after his passing. This latest sighting comes in a commercial for a Honda SCR 110 scooter that channels The Jobs himself. Up close, the male actor isn't a ringer, but the black turtleneck and design theme leave no doubt about his inspiration.

The Chinese-language tag for this commercial says "Wuyang Honda Motorcycle." We don't know if they made it, but a post house called CN Post Production takes credit for some of the work on it. How much hipster can you pack into a Honda Jazz/Fit? Click above to watch the videos

It's no secret that the Honda Fit is one of our favorite small cars. It blends nimble handling, good fuel efficiency and an amazing interior package. Few cars with such a small footprint can accommodate four adult passengers and their stuff in such comfort. Now the folks at Honda Australia have launched a new promotional campaign and contest they've dubbed Jazz-packing (remember, the Fit is marketed as the Jazz in numerous other global markets).

Just as college students back in the 1960s and 1970s used to stuff phone booths (you do remember what those are, right?) and Volkswagen Beetles, a particularly nerdy looking "scientist" named Rodney oversees the packing of a Honda Jazz with everything from hipsters to ninjas, rappers, and even strongmen and women - you can see all of the clever videos after the jump.

If you've got an idea of what to pack in a Jazz and you live in Australia, just upload a photo to the site where visitors can vote and the entries that get the most votes will get produced into a video like the ones you see after the jump. Whoever suggests the most popular entry will win the car used in the making of the ad.

There has been plenty of debate about the Honda CR-Z around the Autoblog water cooler. Does Honda's sport-inspired mild hybrid have the style, power (122 horsepower), sales appeal and fuel economy numbers (36 miles per gallon city, 38 highway) to make it a legitimate successor to the CRX? We'll have to drive the CR-Z to get the answer to most of our questions, and we'll have to wait for a few months after launch to see whether car buyers will welcome the mild little hybrid with open arms (and wallets).

One thing we do know for sure, though, is that the post-jump European Honda CR-Z promo has too much fog, too many lasers and way too many 1990s-style effects to be cool. That said, it beats the heck out of those bizarre-looking animated jazz videos used to market the Accord Crosstour. All Honda wanted to do was save the Earth, one gallon of gasoline at a time. It turns out, though, that in the act of saving said Earth, the Japanese automaker stepped on a few toes - namely, those of Save the Earth Enterprises, an environmental group based in the United States.

See where this is going? That's right, Save the Earth Enterprises, which trademarked the slogan 'Save the Earth' way back in 1972, has sued Honda and its advertising agency, Rubin Postaer & Co., for infringement. The lawsuit seeks to recover Honda's profits from a recent ad campaign for the Civic and to stop future use by Honda of the Save the Earth trademark.

"The Honda ad campaign confused people into thinking that we endorsed Honda or were affiliated with Honda. We aren't affiliated with them and don't endorse them," said Neal Pargman of Save the Earth Foundation in a statement you'll find after the jump. The statement adds that Honda ignored cease-and-desist letters from the foundation. Perhaps they were too busy... saving the earth? Mere hours after Honda's impressive skydiving commercial named "Jump" aired live in Europe, the plane used in the spot crashed and claimed the lives of its pilot and a skydiver. Nine other skydivers aboard the plane, a Pilatus PC-6, were fortunately able to escape before the crash. While Honda has extended its condolences to the victims' families, the automaker was apparently in no way connected to the incident. The sky divers in Honda's commercial and the production crew had all moved on by then, but it's a little creepy to think of what would've happened if this tragedy had occurred on live television. The crash occurred in Toledo, Spain after the aircraft lost a wing, the cause of which is not yet known. Thanks to Satish for the tip.
