<br />Go karts, when properly built and set up, can be some of the most exhilarating rides on four wheels and, in many cases, just about the fastest way to get around smaller race tracks. There's also something oddly enjoyable about piloting a fire-breather with your hindquarters mere inches from the tarmac.<br /><br />That said, the petrolhead in us says, "If go karts are good, more power ought to make them even better." Sound familiar to you? If so, you'll definitely want to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/28/video-comically-overpowered-honda-cbr-900rr-go-kart-gets-all-dr/">click past the jump</a> to watch a video of a certain Honda CBR 900RR-powered go kart fishtailing its way all over a number of inappropriate settings. Suffice it to say that 'oversteer' would be an understatement of epic proportions. Looks like fun, but a helmet and a living will would probably be very sound investments. <em>Thanks for the tip, Robin and The Auto Insider!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/28/video-comically-overpowered-honda-cbr-900rr-go-kart-gets-all-dr/">VideoSift</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/28/video-comically-overpowered-honda-cbr-900rr-go-kart-gets-all-dr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Comically overpowered Honda CBR 900RR go kart gets all drifty</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/28/video-comically-overpowered-honda-cbr-900rr-go-kart-gets-all-dr/">VIDEO: Comically overpowered Honda CBR 900RR go kart gets all drifty</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 12:29:00 EST. <br />Last July, we told you about the latest rolling homage introduced by Portuguese car design and development house <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/search/?q=lusomotors&amp;invocationType=wl-auto&amp;searchsubmit=">LusoMotors</a>. While our previous post featured a gallery of naked chassis and finished product renderings, we now have pics of the rolling prototype. Dubbed the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/06/lusomotors-lm23-150hp-honda-cbr-powered-track-car/">LM23</a>, this bathtub racer is nothing sort of an updated Lotus 23B for the street. Well, it is likely to spend more time on the track, but it is ostensibly streetable.<br /><br />Set to go head-to-head with cars like the Ariel Atom, Radical SR3, KTM X-Bow, Brooks Double R, et al, this featherweight flyer features a steel tube frame chassis under its shapely foam-sandwich metal body. Track-ready details include inboard-mounted coilovers and brakes, plus an integrated roll bar.<br /><br />This first roller is powered by a 150-horsepower, 1.0-liter Honda CBR1000 engine mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. Weighing just 881 pounds, 150 hp should be more than enough to get this thing around a track with alacrity, but LusoMotors founder Ernesto Freitas says customers can choose a number of different engines, including a Subaru turbo boxer. Kit prices are expected to start at &euro;15,000 (around $23,600 USD) minus the engine. The line forms to the right.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/">LusoMotors LM 23</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/lusomotors_lm23_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/lusomotors_lm23_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/lusomotors_lm23_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/lusomotors_lm23_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lusomotors-lm-23/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/lusomotors_lm23_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2009/01/25/lusomotors-lm-23">Autoblog.nl</a> via <a href="http:// http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090126.011/-lusomotors-lm-23-rolling-prototype-photos">WorldCarFans</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/27/lusomotors-lm23-rolling-prototype-ready-for-its-closeup/">LusoMotors LM23 rolling prototype ready for its closeup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 12:29:00 EST. Considering its market domination over the last year, we wouldn't be surprised if Honda simply left things pretty much alone for '09. There is one new feature, though, and it's a biggie: optional ABS brakes. This will be the first application of anti-lock brakes in a machine of this caliber, and early reports indicate that people are seeing improved lap times as a result. In addition to the brakes, expect to see some color changes and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-honda-cbr1000rr-fireblade/1020457/">Repsol race edition</a>.<br /><br />Moving on to Honda's smaller-bore machine, the CBR600RR will also get optional C-ABS along with engine changes designed to improve torque right in the middle of the power band, between 8,000 and 12,000 RPM. Along with these changes comes revised styling with flashy colors pulled straight from the mid-'90s. Apparently, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-honda-cbr600rr/1020437/">neon green</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-honda-cbr600rr/1020440/">electric blue</a> are back. Why didn't somebody tell us sooner? <strong>Update</strong>: Title fixed. Now, though, the red-winged manufacturer of motorcycles has announced a new system which completely removes the rider's direct connection with the front and rear brakes. Instead of a cable connection, the system uses brake-by-wire technology and allows an on-board computer to apply pressure to both the front and rear brakes as it sees fit. This new system is expected to debut on sportbikes first, which raises some eyebrows in the cycle-riding community. The highest performing bikes have ridiculously powerful brakes which are capable of locking up the front tire very easily. Still, hardcore riders have proven very reluctant to give up any control to computers, especially on race tracks, where supersport bikes are expected to thrive. Being Honda, though, there is a prevailing sense that the technology will work. Expect the new combined ABS system to <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/05/28/honda-motorcycles-to-get-variable-cylinder-management-and-more/">proliferate</a> to all of Honda's two-wheelers in the near future.<br /><br />[Source: Honda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/14/honda-testing-abs-brakes-on-cbr600rr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Honda testing ABS brakes on CBR600RR</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/14/honda-testing-abs-brakes-on-cbr600rr/">Honda testing ABS brakes on CBR600RR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 14 Jun 2008 11:39:00 EST.
