When Samantha Hendricks returned home Tuesday evening, she had a hard time getting up her icy driveway. Giving the car a healthy bit of gas to get up the slick pavement, as most of us do, she created a fair bit of wheelspin. Some time after parking the car in the garage, the people inside began to smell smoke and discovered it was coming from the car. Unable to extinguish the source of the smoke, the car caught on fire and took the entire house -- and all of the gifts and possessions inside -- with it. Investigators haven't yet determined if it was the spinning tires that caused the fire, but the burn pattern indicates that it had something to do with the car. The question is, what could it be?

[Source: ABC12/WJRT]
Spinning tires responsible for house fire? originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 09:05:00 EST.
Thanks to CAR and a few masters of vehicular design, Santa is bringing some serious automotive enthusiast cheer. The glossy euro mag asked designers from Ford, Bentley, Nissan and Rolls-Royce to design some sleighs for Santa, and while a few of them look to be from the land of misfit toys -- and one of them looks like Santa's Death Star -- it's a fabulously cool exercise. Nissan's intergalactic sleigh is pulled by a GT-R, Bentley's got a W12-powered sled, Ford's got some popout snowboard action happening, and the Rolls sleigh looks, of course, like Santa should have a snifter of Louis XIV in one delicately gloved hand while an elf named Jeeves tends the Smythson leather reins.
Audi has given their customers in China and Hong Kong something they can sink their teeths into. The Mid-Autumn festival, celebrating the maiden in the moon, is accompanied by tasty pastries called mooncakes that people give to each other during the holiday. Audi has baked up a set of treats topped with model names like A6, S5, and R8. If they're as good as they look, it's a nice way to give props to the moonwoman. The festival is on September 14 this year, so if you're an Audi-phile and want to get a piece of R8 mooncake, there's still time... In 2005 they got their wish. So what do you do after you get the object of your affection on a stamp? Get it a national day of recognition, of course.

Mid America, based in Effingham, Illinois, has put together a petition that it will deliver to Illinois Congressional Representative John Shimkus. Their hope is that Shimkus will get his cronies in Congress to declare June 30 -- the day Corvettes began rolling off the line in 1953 -- National Corvette Day. That's right, National Corvette Day. Said Mark Merkel of Mid America, "It is a popular piece of Americana and an integral part of American history and the automobile." If they succeed, we can only wonder what other requests for integral parts of American automobile history Congress will be asked to consider. National Edsel Day?
