In the same way that just about anything under Sir Richard Branson's "Virgin" umbrella has come to mean hip and edgy, things affixed with the "Red Bull" stamp are coming to mean "That's frickin' crazy!" Last year for New Year's Eve Robbie Maddison took his motorbike and leaped on to the 96-foot Arc de Triomphe replica in Las Vegas, then jumped the 96 feet back down to the ground.

This year for Red Bull's New Year, No Limits stunt, Travis Pastrana wants to break the record for the longest jump in his rallying Subaru. He'll be launching from the Pine Street Pier in Long Beach and hoping to make it onto a landing ramp more than 270 feet away. In between the pier and the ramp: 250 feet of water.

Pastrana's going for an old school jump, opting not to use a specially prepared car for the trick. Pastrana says he wants to drive out of the stunt and get back to the party, but also mentions Spanky Spangler as inspiration. Spangler did a 225-foot jump in a Chevy Nova, but he landed in the water -- on purpose. From 270 feet away, flying through the air, Pastrana's attempt to land on a barge will be like trying to alight on a pencil. If nothing else, it should make some excellent TV, and if he makes it unhurt a great start to the New Year.

Today General Motors announced that it will be offering an extra $500 to $1,500 in bonus cash on most 2007 and 2007 models. The offer is part of GM's Labor Day sale and the company stresses that it's not backing away from its value pricing push. The new rebates are in addition to the current low-interest financing offers and any other cash bonuses currently being offered in one's region.

Of course, the best and newest GM models are not eligible including the Pontiac Solstice; Saturn Sky, Aura and VUE Green Line, Chevy Corvette; 2007 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL Denali; HUMMER H1; and 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

Customers will basically get $500 back for purchasing a car, $1,000 back for a pickup and $1,500 back for a truck-based SUV. The offer expires on September 5th.

Once again Mercedes-Benz is teaming up with upscale department store Saks Fifth Avenue to offer the CL600 Signature Edition for sale in the "The Gift" catalog this holiday season. Only 20 Signature Editions CL600s will be produced and offered in the catalog that goes out to Saks customers in mid-October.

The CL600 Signature Edition features the marque's twin-turbo 12-cylinder powerplant that produces 510 horsepower and 612 ft-lbs. of torque. The only real change to the coupe is the addition of an exclusive color palette designed to compliment the holiday season. The exterior is Mystic White, while the interior is swathed in Porcelain Nappa leather and Piano Lacquer Black wood-trim. Pricing for the CL600 Signature Edition has not been announced, but last year's offering, 20 specially-equipped S600 sedans, were priced at $145,775 and sold out in just seven minutes.
