Nissan is in the process of overhauling five of its most popular models, beginning with the 2013 Altima that just went into production at the automaker's Smyrna, Tennessee facility. Next up is the all-new Pathfinder, which made its debut in Detroit earlier this year, and now Kicking Tires reports that the smaller Rogue crossover will be the next vehicle to get a much-needed freshening.

Unlike the current model, the next-generation Rogue will be built in the United States, specifically in - you guessed it - Tennessee. That aside, we don't know much else about the next Rogue, though Nissan's Hi-Cross concept from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show (pictured) certainly gives us a good glimpse as to what's possible, at least in terms of design.

The Hi-Cross, a seven-seat crossover, featured a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled to a hybrid powertrain and a continuously variable transmission. It's hard to say if this sort of powertrain will find its way into the new Rogue, though. Rumors had circulated for quite some time about the new Altima using a four-cylinder turbo setup, but the production car makes due with refreshed versions of the existing four- and six-cylinder engines.
Nissan confirms next-gen Rogue will be built in Tennessee originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 22 May 2012 14:30:00 EST.
Nissan's stables are already all ate up with crossovers - they've got the Murano, the Rogue, the Juke and the new Pathfinder, not to mention overseas models like the wildly popular Qashqai or corner cases like the Murano CrossCabriolet. So what's one more thrown into the mix? Enter the Nissan Hi-Cross. Officially a concept, the Hi-Cross could just be a peek at the next-generation Murano, or it could be a look at a new Euro-market entrant? It could just be a pure concept, but it seems to be too rational and free of show car excess to not be production-minded.

Despite looking a skosh smaller than the current Murano, the Hi-Cross concept seats seven, and it's powered by a direct-injected 2.0-liter gasoline engine backed by an electric motor that Nissan says produces power similar to a conventional 2.5-liter engine. Given the fact that this is a three-row concept and has such a small engine, perhaps the Hi-Cross is just hinting at a production CUV for the European market, as the Pathfinder would likely be perceived as too large to drive on The Continent. Of course, that's why Nissan already sells the long-wheelbase Qashqai+2, right? Color us confused.

Nissan is headed to this year's Geneva Motor Show in March with a slew of concept vehicles. The company has let slip a teaser for one of those creations, complete with a quick video. The automaker calls the new vehicle the Hi-Cross Concept, and from the look and sound of things, we can expect to see a new high-riding hatchback roll onto the stage in Switzerland. Details aren't just scarce at the moment - they're entirely absent, which means we'll have to wait until the Hi-Cross receives its official debut at the show to learn more.

Nissan is also bringing along the Invitation Concept it showed off earlier this month. The pint-sized hatchback is designed to indicate exactly what the automaker has planned for its next small car. Like the Hi-Cross, Nissan has kept drivetrain details for the Invitation to itself for the time being.
