A Pulitzer prize reminds us that Roger's a Jedi master with prose, too. We were, however, surprised to find out that America's most famous film critic appears to be a dyed-in-the-wool car guy. He admits to not being one of us wrench-turners, but you don't have to know a trunnion from a pinion to be able to appreciate fine iron, and Ebert can wax dreamy with the best of us when talk turns to his beloved Studebaker Golden Hawk. What's not to like? Loewy style, supercharged V8, more speed than most of its contemporaries - we love the Stude, too. Regardless of whether we agree with his assessment of the latest blockbuster effects extravaganza, we feel a little more personally connected to the famous critic now that we know he's bitten with the four-wheeled bug that afflicts us. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2008/12/19/ebert-on-studebaker-thumbs-up/">Hemmings</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/20/who-knew-roger-ebert-car-guy/">Who knew? We got to hang out with the gullwing-afficionado <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/24/video-gullwings-aplenty-2007-bricklin-owners-meet-and-a-chat/">Bricklin</a> folks, and on Sunday, we headed up to Vermont's Stratton Mountain for the <a href="http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/07/23/a-tour-a-show-and-a-concours-im-beat/">New England Concours D'Elegance</a>. The event was put on in smashing style by the good people at <a href="http://www.hemmings.com">Hemmings,</a> and even though we didn't make it up for the much larger general car show on Saturday, Sunday's Concours was no less enthralling. Concours events are another level entirely, with the field being comprised of cars so perfectly restored they grab you by the earlobes and make you pay attention. If they're not restored, the cars are authentic examples with the most exceptional patina. Either way, the cars at the Concours were incredible. <br /><br />There were cars from virtually every era of motoring, with powerplants as diverse as DC electric motors to Italian V12s. We can't possibly recount all that we saw, but there was a particular '66 Ferrari that blew us away with its originality, a Daimler SP250 proudly displaying its diminutive hemi-head V8, a Duesenberg racer, 1930s luxury rides from Lincoln, Auburn, Pierce-Arrow and Packard, and we finally got to see that DeSoto with electronic fuel injection up close and personal. If you've never been to a concours, you owe it to yourself to go - where else can you take in an unrestored Mercury X100 in exceptionally clean condition, the most perfect '68 Hemi Charger we'd ever seen, and plenty of befinned Cadillacs. We made a whirlwind stop, and shot a hair over 100 pictures, so without further ado, we'll shut up so you can get to the pictures.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/">Hemmings New England Concours D'Elegance</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/dsc_0277_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/dsc_0278_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/dsc_0279_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/dsc_0282_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hemmings-new-england-concours-delegance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/dsc_0284_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/27/beauty-in-the-green-mountains-hemmings-concours-huge-gallery/">Beauty in the Green Mountains - Hemmings Concours - HUGE Gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 13:04:00 EST. You should <a href="http://blog.hemmings.com/">bookmark them</a> if you haven't already, because if not for Hemmings, how would we ever find stuff like the video we've embedded after the jump. It is, quite simply, the most sublimely badass Hot Wheels race we've ever seen.<br /><br />Seriously. This is going to be hard to top. Follow the jump and see for yourself. <br /><br />[Source: MySpace via the <a href="http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/02/02/roadrace/">Hemmings Blog</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/03/the-baddest-hot-wheels-race-ever-created/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The baddest Hot Wheels race ever created</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/03/the-baddest-hot-wheels-race-ever-created/">The baddest Hot Wheels race ever created</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 03 Feb 2007 17:31:00 EST. The outside is button-tufted, presumably for extra-classiness, while the interior gets a more traditional, smooth look. Nothing can escape the fabric's touch; even the shifter and steering wheel get the treatment. <br /><br />Gloriously freakin' ridiculous. The damned thing looks even more comfortable to sit <span style="font-style: italic;">on </span>than in.<br /><br />We've got two more shots after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.j4u.ru/2006/12/14/sofa_car.html">J4U.ru</a> via Hemmings Auto Blogs]<br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/15/maximum-plush-fully-upholstered-porsche-924/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Maximum Plushness: Fully upholstered Porsche 924</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/15/maximum-plush-fully-upholstered-porsche-924/">Maximum Plushness: Fully upholstered Porsche 924</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 Dec 2006 12:09:00 EST.
