Kraft Foods wants to bring you more Velveeta, more efficiently. According to Bloomberg, the food giant says it needs to pack its 97,000-pound trucks full of processed deliciousness in order to combat high diesel prices. Problem is, interstate highways have an 80,000-pound weight limit.
Although many suspect that Daimler wants to buy Iveco from Fiat Industrial S.p.A., the German automaker denies it is angling to purchase the commercial division. According to The New York Times, there were supposedly talks during the summer about Daimler purchasing the "non-car business" – we're not sure if that means the agricultural and the truck side – but apparently the two sides couldn't agree on a price.
Oshkosh Truck, a Wisconsin based provider of the Army’s heavy cargo-hauling HEMTT (Heavy Expandable Mobility Technical Truck), is developing an electric hybrid variant for the U.S. Army, and has just signed a contract do develop a prototype of a similar vehicle for the Marines. In addition to increasing fuel economy from 3 to 4 miles per gallon, the hybrid powertrain could generate enough electricity to power a city block or a hospital, a valuable capability when operating in underdevelope
