Tuner Tuesdays: Hamann's wicked 673-hp Ferrari 599

Haman the Wicked was an ancient Assyrian viceroy who thought himself better than the King. He had an unquenchable thirst for power and fathered equally wicked sons. History, it seems, has come full circle, and there's a lot in a name. Today it belongs to the German tuning house Hamann that, in its unquenchable thirst for power, aims to better Ferraris – kings of all sportscardom – and as a result produces some seriously wicked offspring of its own.

The latest is a complete tuning package for the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, already hailed as one of the best GTs of all time. Hamann has tweaked an extra 53 horsepower out of the Fiorano's Enzo-derived engine, bringing peak power up to 673 hp, by fitting its own custom header. And in case the wail of the Fiorano's V12 just wasn't cutting it, Hamann also fitted its own exhaust.

Tuner Thursday II: Coming between HAMANN and his Mini

The new Mini hasn't even dropped yet and the tuner world is already at it. This particular Cooper is the product of the minds and hands at Hamann. It features the obligatory body kit with a more aggressive front end and side skirts, plus a new under bumper rear valence. Butches the Mini up a bit.

Hamann also fits the car with your choice of three different wheel upgrades. The five spoke HM4 17" one-piece alloy model, the similar looking PG4 18" multi-piece wheel with a polished lip, or the Hamann signature 18" one-piece multi-spoke ANNIVERSARY I design, with its silver finish and high-gloss polished INOX stainless steel lip. And as they point out, that lip can easily be replaced in the event of damage, which is nice.

And adding a little steak to the sizzle, Hamann adds a new sport intake and also redoes the exhaust, which features a twin-pipe silencer with two round stainless steel tailpipes. And although handling is what makes the Mini stand out in this segment, Hamann takes that already good package and tries to improve it with their height-adjustable coilover suspension. Using four sports shock absorbers and new springs the suspension can be lowered by up to 50 mm at the front, and by up to 30 mm at the rear. That's quite a drop and must feel even more like a go-kart than the stock Cooper already does.

Thanks for the tip, freecaster!

Hamann-ah Hamann-ah! -- Tuner offers Porsche upgrade from 996 to 997

Got yourself a Porsche Carrera, GT2, GT3, Carrera 4S or Turbo from 1997-2004? Those were the years of the 996, which marked a change from air-cooled to water-cooled. It was also the point at which Porsche essentially canned the round headlights and flared fenders. By all accounts, the 996 was an incredible machine... but what about Porsche tradition? Well, if one can get around the whole air-cooled thing, hot-shoe tuners Hamann have got a package they'd like to show you.

The tuning shop uses original Porsche parts in combination with their own to convert the 996 to a 997, sans the cost of going out and buying a brand new Porsche. On top of the conversion, Hamann added wing doors, a cool body kit, and performance components to round out the upgrade. The result is a slick looking 997 with 620 bhp and a top speed of 217 mph.
