If you've been feeling slighted by the fact that the top three contenders in Polyphony Digital's GT Academy are cheating curs, don't sweat it. Sony has announced that round two of the Gran Turismo 5 challenge won't count. Instead, everyone who participated in round two will also be able to give it a go in round three. The company says that its already hard at work on a way to prevent gamers from cutting the same corners in the Rome and Madrid circuits that allowed the contentious lap times in the first place.

The news is welcome for anyone who feared that Sony might pull the plug on the competition all together. There is a downside, though. The next round of the GT Academy has been permanently postponed until this whole mess can be properly sorted, and Polyphony hasn't said when we can expect a patch to fix the gamers' cheating ways. Stay tuned.
The Japanese manufacturer has announced that a total of 48 drivers split into two teams - red and white after the company's corporate colors - will race virtual interpretations of the FT-86 G Sports concept for a full day and night.

That doesn't mean that the same 48 guys will be planted in front of television screens for 24 hours, though. Toyota says that the 24 members of each team will race for one hour each starting at 3:00 PM. today and wrapping up at 3:00 PM. the next day. Toyota has chosen the epic Nürburgring as the field of battle.

Interestingly enough, neither Toyota nor Polyphony Digital are saying exactly what spoils will go to the winning team. We're hoping it's more than bragging rights.

Anyone looking forward to buying Gran Turismo 5 when it launches on November 2nd? Why don't you have a seat for a minute, we have some bad news. Sony's Playstation Blog just posted an announcement that the game is getting pushed back yet again. The statement does say that the game will be released this holiday season, but does not elaborate more than that. Here's the text:

We can confirm that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available this November 2nd, but the game's release will be coming this holiday season.

We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.

We keep getting excited only to continually have the rug pulled out from underneath us. The cars, tracks, damage feature, Top Gear goodies and numerous extras leave us waiting with baited breath. We've waited this long so we can wait a little longer.

But not much longer...
Yippy for me, though. The PS3 is the most powerful game console in the world, yet it sits idle in my entertainment center as the loud hum of my XBox 360 (I know, two consoles, I'm truly blessed) drones on. All that will change on April 17, which is the confirmed date that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will go on sale for the PS3.

GT 5 Prologue, unfortunately, is just a preview of what we'll get when the full version of this fifth installment is released sometime in the future. But what a preview it is with 60 cars and five full tracks on which to race in high-def glory. You'll be able to buy GT 5 Prologue on April 17th either as a downloadable game from the PlayStation Network on your console or on disc at any games retailer, both for $40. Gran Turismo games were always my favorite on both the PlayStation 1 and 2, and I'm hoping GT5 Prologue will finally get me interested in the PS3 that's been suffering some serious neglect (no, you can't have it) since Christmas.

[Source: Joystiq]

Gallery: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to drop April 17th originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 29 Jan 2008 12:01:00 EST. GT Channel is reporting that the game will include Ferraris for the first time in its history. This is based on a recent trailer of GT 5 Prologue that shows a Ferrari F430 on track. We would imagine if the F430 is included, other of Modena's finest are, as well.

E3 is also going on as we speak, and news from the trade show today is that the full version of GT 5 won't be coming until at least the spring of 2008, Sony is releasing the smaller Gran Turismo 5 Prologue this year to keep us interested. Though likely featuring a small stable of cars, Prologue will reportedly allow online racing, which is another feature the GT series has gone without for too long.

Check out the newly released Gran Turismo 5 Prologue trailer featuring Ferraris on track after the jump.

[Source: GT Channel, YouTube]
Continue reading New Gran Turismo 5 trailer confirms Ferrari included

New Gran Turismo 5 trailer confirms Ferrari included originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 13:34:00 EST.
