BMW prices 6 Series Gran Coupe, M5 and M6 for U.S.

If you've been saving your spare change to pick up one of these new BMW models later this year, well, now you can more accurately estimate how many wheelbarrows full of nickels you'll need to dump into the Coinstar machine at your local grocery store.

We'll start with the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe. While we already knew the six-cylinder 640i Gran Coupe would start at $76,895 including destination charges, prices on the V8 models have now been set. The 650i will sell for $87,395, while the 650i xDrive model will command $90,395. Both are powered by a twin-turbo, 445-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8, which BMW says can propel the all-wheel-drive version from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. (The rear-wheel-drive model is a tick slower at 4.6 seconds.) The 640i goes on sale in late June, with the V8 models coming towards the end of summer.

The M series cars will command substantially more, with the 2012 M6 Convertible commanding all of $113,995 when it goes on sale in June. The M6 Coupe and M5 will go on sale in late summer as 2013 models, with the M6 carrying a $106,995 MSRP and the M5 listing at $90,695. All three models will share a twin-turbo, 560-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8.

The price of a fourth M vehicle, the revised 2013 BMW X6 M, has also been announced. It will sell for $93,795, a $2,600 increase from this year's model. For more details, scroll down to check out the official release.

2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe finally shows up

The 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe may have debuted a full three months ago (time flies, huh?), but we're just now seeing it in person for the first time here at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The prolonged debut almost makes sense for BMW's big coupe, since it's a late entry in a segment that already includes stunners like the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi A7, Porsche Panamera and even the Aston Martin Rapide (if you're really reaching).

But that doesn't make the 6 Series Gran Coupe any less interesting - or stunning. We still don't 100 percent love the 6er's new front fascia, but there's no question that the sloping roofline and squat hind quarters are anything less than sleek and shapely. Oh, and get a load of that interior. The two-tone leather surfaces and two-passenger rear compartment look absolutely stunning.

BMW will launch the 640i Gran Coupe in the United States first, powered by the automaker's widely popular N55 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six, good for 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque and mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The eight-cylinder 650i and xDrive models will follow suit in short order, as well.

BMW M6 Gran Coupe spotted testing

A myriad of official official pictures and video means we already know what the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe looks like, and we already know the base-model 640i variant will cost $76,895. The top slot, however, will be taken by the M6 Gran Coupe and it is in barren polar areas still preparing for primetime.

BMW's challenger to rob from the piggy bank of the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 gets the expected M treatment with muscled-up additions front and back and quad exhaust pipes. It will stand over the middle-tier 650i and its 4.4-liter V8 good for 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. The M6 Gran Coupe will use the same turbocharged V8 as the M5 and M6, doling out a minimum of 560 horsepower with rumors suggesting perhaps 580 hp.

Check it out in the gallery, and that almost-complete segment should get ready to rumble once this arrives.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe priced at $76,895

BMW has slapped a sticker onto the latest addition to the 6 Series lineup, and the all-new 2013 640i Gran Coupe will carry at sticker of $76,895 (including the $895 destination charge) when it goes on sale this summer.

The 640i is the first variant of the segment-splitting "4+1" sedan, which gets power from the ubiquitous TwinPower turbocharged and direct-injected 3.0-liter inline-six putting out 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. A 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8-powered 650i Gran Coupe will be on offer later this year in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive guise, although BMW is holding off on pricing those two 445 hp models until closer to launch. 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe makes its debut [UPDATE]

Better late than never, right?

We're now on the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the luxury sedan that kicked off the whole "four-door coupe" craze. Since then, Volkswagen countered with the CC, Porsche launched the Panamera, and Audi won us over with its A7. So what about BMW? Now that the big 6 Series coupe has taken hold, the German automaker has added a proper back seat and two additional doors to create this, the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe.

The first version of the Gran Coupe to arrive Stateside will be the 640i, powered by BMW's N55 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six, good for 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque in this application. Shortly thereafter, the 650i Gran Coupe will arrive, available with rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 tuned to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with BMW's ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

Compared to its two-door counterpart, the Gran Coupe is a full 4.4 inches longer, and most of that added length benefits the rear passengers. BMW's literature states that the stretched 6 Series has a 4+1 seating configuration, meaning there's actually a quasi-usable seat between the two outboard rear positions. (Good luck.) Judging from the photos, the Gran Coupe's interior is as luxuriously appointed and tech-laden as the rest of the 6 Series range - if not a little bit moreso.

We originally thought that BMW would debut the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe at next month's Detroit Auto Show, but since the all-new 2012 3 Series is expected to make its public debut at Cobo Hall, we think BMW may hold off on the official Gran Coupe introduction until the Geneva Motor Show in March. 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe snapped wearing M package

We're in the middle of yet another slow striptease of prototypes from BMW, this time starring the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe. We've seen patent filings and two sets of spy shots, not to mention the original 'concept' that - unsurprisingly - looks very, very similar to the almost-ready development cars caught out on the road.

For round three, we're getting our first glimpse at the four-door 6 Series' M Sport package, complete with the usual performance-ish upgrades like larger wheels, a more aggressive front fascia and revised exhaust. Truth be told, we like the M Sport additions to the awkward 6 Series nose, and we're sure the finished product will be quite a looker (especially in black). BMW is using the design elements of its latest 6 Series to create its first foray into the four-door coupe world with this, the 6 Series Gran Coupe. We'll likely see the finished product at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and judging by these latest spy shots, the big four-door is indeed nearing completion.

Much like the 6 Series coupe, we can expect the Gran Coupe to launch in 650i guise, powered by BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, with a six-cylinder 640i model following shortly thereafter. In any case, the Gran Coupe will go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7, and we're eager to see how the big sedan looks with all its camouflage removed.

It's funny; of the three German luxury brands, BMW was the first to offer a sport-utility vehicle - the X5 - and yet it's the last to create some sort of four-door coupe, the next hot segment that every luxury marque seems to be diving into. Mercedes-Benz is now on its second generation of the CLS, the sexy Audi A7 is now on sale around the globe, and even Porsche took notice and created the Panamera. Nevertheless, BMW is quickly prepping its own take on the four-door coupe with this, the 6 Series Gran Coupe, which - based on this latest set of spy photos - looks to be nearing completion.

Not surprisingly, the 6 Series Gran Coupe will share its turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines with the 5 and 7 Series lineup, likely launching in 650i guise first with BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Don't be surprised if the production car debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.

BMW has previously confirmed that it plans to build a production version of the 6 Series Gran Coupe Concept that it unveiled at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show, and these plausible-looking patent filings appear to give a glimpse at the car's final design. Much like BMW's latest batch of concept cars - the M5 and 6 Series Coupe, notably - the "finished" product doesn't stray too much from the original concept car, save, of course, the traditional dumbing-down of air intakes and wheel sizes.

The 6 Series Gran Coupe is expected to slot in between the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series in terms of both size and price, and will likely use the same range of turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines that we see in those models. While not as overly swoopy as its competitors, the 6 Series Gran Coupe will be poised to do battle with the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS for four-door coupe luxury supremacy.

BMW Gran Coupe reportedly go for launch

Not to be outdone by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide or Audi A7, BMW will reportedly be building a production version of the Gran Coupe concept that debuted at this year's Beijing Motor Show. It may be a late arrival to the growing segment of swoopy luxury sedans, but BMW will indeed poise the Gran Coupe to offer just as much in the way of technology and refinement as the lot of its competitors.

Based on the next-generation 6 Series, the Gran Coupe is set to launch sometime in 2012 and will share its powertrains with what we're seeing in the 5, 6, and 7 Series BMWs, including a possible hybrid variant. Naturally, the production Gran Coupe will slot between the 5 and 7 Series in terms of size and price, and if the overall design doesn't change too much, it'll certainly be an attractive addition to the BMW lineup.

We didn't get a production version of the Concept CS, but it looks like things are going to go a little less disappointingly with the recently unveiled BMW Gran Coupé. Elements from the rakish four-door are will first appear on the 6 Series coupe and convertible, and the Gran Coupé's cues are expected to "turn up all over the BMW range in the next few years."

BMW Blog has a couple of looks behind the creation of the Gran Coupé, which looks to have been designed by Nader Faghihzadeh, the man behind the new 7 Series interior. You can have a look at some of the Making Of in the gallery of photos below, or follow the link for more while we wait for it to appear at the Paris Motor Show this fall. But BMW, even if you don't make it, can we at least talk about Transporter 4 or a new round of BMW Films with this?

At last week's Beijing Motor Show, BMW unveiled its new four-door Gran Coupé concept. To be more precise, they revealed the car in the Chinese city, but not at the show itself. At the time, we scoured the BMW stand and the only new vehicle we found there was the 535Li extended-wheelbase, with no sign of the new concept.

It turns out that BMW held a private reception the night before the media day at the show, and there the concept stayed. In a 'better late than never' move, one of the attendees has posted a video of the reveal, and we're sharing that with you now. Designer Adrian van Hooydonk and Chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer opened the doors on the Gran Coupé in an extended (albeit not particularly awe inspiring) manner, but the concept still looks pretty great regardless, and it also looks very nearly production-ready. Hopefully we'll get a chance to check out the Gran Coupé live somewhere soon, but in the meantime, check out the video after the jump.

Four-door coupes are nothing new these days, what with vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Volkswagen CC proving that these stylish sedans do, in fact, have a place in the automotive world. What's more, Audi's swoopy A7 is nearing its final stages of development, and higher-end coupe-sedans like the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera have indeed caught our attention in recent months. BMW is now jumping on that train, and the automaker has officially debuted its Concept Gran Coupé at this year's Beijing Motor Show.

Strip away the rear doors, and the design of the Gran Coupé is awfully close to what we'll see on the next-generation 6 Series. The sporty, flat design of the concept is really stunning, and BMW points out that the Gran Coupé is actually 100 millimeters (four inches) flatter than both the 5 and 7 Series sedans. Combine that with frameless doors and LED lighting all around and what we have here is a rather stunning design.

BMW is one of the only luxury automakers not currently participating in the four-door coupe niche market, and we won't be surprised if a production version of the Gran Coupé hits the streets within the next couple of years. Even so, we're interested to see how this new design language influences the rest of the automaker's portfolio, even beyond the 6 Series.
