The UK government's plug-in vehicle tax perks may be used up by the end of the year. Good thing they're considering an extension.
Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. will be launching an electric version of its Verito Sedan next year. EV technology made by its subsidiary Reva will be used in the e-Verito, said Ravindra Shahane, senior general manager, marketing, automotive division of Mahindra.
China seems to be hedging its bets on meeting stiffening emissions and fuel economy regulations, and addressing consumer demand for cleaner air. Electric vehicles remain part of the strategy, but their high cost, limited range and lack of infrastructure have kept sales at a slow pace. Hmm, that kind of sounds familiar, doesn't it?

The sales lead happened even though the Ampera was launched in the UK market three months earlier than the PHEV Prius. The Ampera is GM's European version of the Chevrolet Volt.
Norwegians are buying a lot of Nissan Leaf vehicles and have the most Tesla Model S reservations in the European market. While the US is a major market for electric vehicles, the sales numbers are proportionally huge for Norwegians. US electric vehicle sales look to be close to 50,000 for plug-in electric vehicles for all of 2012. According to Treehugger, that number reached about 10,000 units sold in Norway during 2012.
Government incentives can be an important boost for new technologies moving from the testing ground to mainstream markets, but incentives are not guaranteed to achieve intended results – and there's no promise a government can maintain support. In an era of budgetary pressures (such as now), incentives can become easy targets.
French Minister of Industrial Renewal Amaud Montebourg wants his nation to be considered the world's electric-vehicle leader. "France can guide the electric revolution. We want electric vehicles to be for everyone," he said during the recent welcome-home ceremony for the Citroen C-Zero driving team that finished an eight month, 15,535 mile road trip on $300 worth of electricity, the Electric Odyssey.
We've heard many reports before regarding just how much impact electric vehicles (EVs) will have on the environment. Some claim a profound reduction of this while others suggest an increase of that. Of course, it's all speculation for now because it's hard to determine the EVs' actual impact until they take to the streets and long-term studies can be conducted.
