Of all the collaborations between watchmakers and automakers, the partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin yields some of our favorite results. The Swiss timekeepers and the British purveyor and racer of GTs have together given birth to four wristwatches in the AMVOX range, including tourbillons, GMTs, alarms, chronographs and even transponders capable of unlocking an Aston's doors. Now they've released their fifth: the AMVOX5 World Chronograph.

Inspired by Aston's all-conquering race cars, the AMVOX5 is driven by JLC's own Calibre 752 movement, with a column wheel, vertical clutch chronograph and lubricant-free ceramic ball-bearing mechanism. The movement is encased in either ceramic and titanium or 18-karat rose gold, and can instantly display the time in any zone around the world. They even replaced London on the bezel with Gaydon, home to Aston's headquarters. How's that for attention to detail?

Only 300 and 200 examples will be made in ceramic/titanium and gold, respectively, with an additional two 100-example racing versions to be launched in the near future. If you like what you see, have a closer look in the gallery below and in the press release after the jump.

Listen to enough of the bloviation, and you'll start to believe that full-size, traditional SUVs are the root of all evil. While the hue and cry has gone up far and wide branding these truck-based vehicles as four-wheeled carcinogens, there are enough legitimate reasons to purchase a Chevrolet Suburban or Cadillac Escalade that General Motors is going ahead with the next generation.

SUVs have traditionally been healthy profit-earners for General Motors. Though sales dropped by 25 percent in 2009, sales are picking up once again and exports remain strong, all making a good case for the revamping and keeping the truck chassis. Work had been idled on the GMT900 architecture's replacement while GM went through its bout with Chapter 11 and fuel prices spiked. Moving the Tahoe, Escalade, Yukon, and Suburban to a version of the unibody Lambda platform had also reportedly been considered. In the end, buyers opting for the big SUVs really want and need what they do; from three rows of seats to truck-strong towing and heavy-duty four-wheel-drive systems, so General Motors is apparently keeping the basic formula, confirming to Automotive News that all current versions of GMT900 have a future. The fact that GM SUVs are practically ubiquitous as congressional transporters probably doesn't hurt the case for revamping the full-size SUV line, either. After all, Capitol Hill has a massive stake in GM, and they might as well get some new armored Escalades for politicians publicly stumping for small, fuel-efficient cars, right?

Gallery: Chevrolet Suburban 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition

[Source: Automotive News - sub. req.]
No Surprise: GM's next-generation of large SUVs reportedly due by 2013 originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 15:58:00 EST.
With the Baselworld watch show still underway, TAG Heuer released a trio of new driver's watches, including the latest SLR chronograph. Not to be outdone, the sketchers over at Porsche Design used to occasion to take the wraps off their latest timepiece, the P'6750 Worldtimer GMT.

Like any other GMT wristwatch, this one keeps track of two time zones - a handy feature if you're taking your Carrera on a cross-country tour, or want to know what time it is at the other end of your Cayenne. Instead of using a fourth hand like other GMT watches, however, the P'6750 uses an indicator window placed at 9 o'clock on the dial to display the secondary time zone, and another indicator window at 3 o'clock to select the time zone by city.

The unique features are driven by an Eterna ETA Valgranges automatic movement, enclosed in a titanium case in either matt finish or with black PVD coating. The dial can likewise be ordered in either titanium color or in black, featuring decidedly avant-garde numerals and detailing, while the watch fastens to the wrist with a wide black rubber strap.
