It isn't that uncommon for people to pick up second jobs during the holidays to help relieve some of the financial stress, but apparently our automaton friends feel the fiscal pinch this time of year, too. A handful of General Motors assembly line robots are picking up some extra shifts at Santa's workshop this year wrapping presents.

In addition to stuffing and wrapping boxes, the robots' duties also include spot welding labels onto the gifts (who even knew that was possible?). The work looks boring and monotonous, but at least these GM robots were able to find a second job.

Watch the elves and robots team up to get presents wrapped in the video below, so Santa can deliver them to children in his fancy sleigh: a 45th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible.
Continue reading GM manufacturing robots take up second job as present wrappers

GM manufacturing robots take up second job as present wrappers originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 16:59:00 EST. At least if you happen to live in the United Kingdom. EBay Motors UK is now offering a gift-wrap service on cars sold through the online auction site. Actually, the service is available on cars, bikes, and even boats, starting around £400. Although many manufacturers advertise cars as gifts for the holidays, showing vehicles adorned with oversized bows lining streets and driveways for delighted loved ones to discover, this is a full bumper-to-bumper wrap PLUS the big ribbon and bow.

For those interested, log onto eBayMotors.co.uk and click on the 'Gift Wrapped Cars' link. EBay Motors UK says it started the service after getting a request from a young banker who bought a special car for a special someone on the site. He inquired about having the Ferrari he bought for his girlfriend gift wrapped for Christmas. Might be an opportune time to pop the question, as well. If she hasn't said yes yet, we know a few people who will gladly take her place.

If you happen to like the idea of a gift-wrapped car but have more time and talent than quid, you can buy your own car wrapping kit from the site for around £119 and up. The kit comes with "full instructions, festive ribbon and 150 metres of wrapping paper." Car not included. Assembly required. Acceptance of proposal not guaranteed.

[Source: eBay Motors UK]
Do you gift wrap? eBay Motors does originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 11 Dec 2006 12:03:00 EST.
