The Shunk, Nunez, Abuelsamid and Roth quartet reconvene for Episode #168 of the Autoblog Podcast with the Geneva Motor Show now underway. Our first order of business is a stop at the Autoblog Garage, occupied this week by the Suzuki Kizashi, Kia Sorento, BMW 750Li, and Cadillac SRX. Anticipating the massive auto show that's just about to start, we dive right in. Starting us off is the awesome electric-green Lamborghini 570-4 Superleggera. Jumping from Italian exotics to the ultimate SUV, we talk about the 2011 Porsche Cayenne before segueing cleanly into a discussion of the crack-pipe pricing for the Volkswagen Touareg hybrid. Before we leave the VW/Porsche sphere, we talk about how insanely cool the Porsche 918 Spyder concept car is. The Ford Focus station wagon is one of those things we'll see in Geneva, but likely not in the U.S., while the Lexus CT200h is making its way to the shores of North America. BMW's 5 Series Active Hybrid Concept keeps up the cavalcade of alternative propulsion by the big Swiss lake, and it's our last topic before calling it a night. Thanks for listening!

2011 Volkswagen Touareg - Click above for high-res image gallery

We could say Volkswagen was tired of making an SUV that ended up being rather expensive - for a VW - after you stuck a few options on it. So in addition to the lost weight, the new Touareg has lost some of the four-wheel drive equipment that made the last one so spendy. This one comes standard with a Torsen limited-slip differential, and then you can order a Terrain Tech Pack that adds the differentials and serious off-road capability that once came standard. That takes fuel economy upward, an boost also helped by the increased curve and lower Cd. VW sold 500,000 units of the previous-gen Touareg and it should do even better with this one. Lotus has just formally introduced a new 400-plus horsepower sportscar concept. That news in and of itself would be enough to pique our interest, but the rest of the car's spec sheet makes the Evora 414E Hybrid an astonishingly intriguing concept vehicle. As you surely surmised by now, this two-seat sportster is a hybrid, specifically an extended-range electric vehicle that features a pair of rear-mounted electric motors and a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gas-powered engine. Why not fully electric? According to Lotus:
With regard to the total lifetime CO2 emissions of the vehicle, including the energy required to manufacture and run it, the range extender solution has a lower overall CO2 footprint than a fully electric car of comparable performance and operating range running with a larger battery.
That 47-horsepower gasoline engine never actually sends power directly to the Evora 414E Hybrid's wheels. Instead - as with other cars such as the 2011 Chevrolet Volt and the Fisker Karma - the mill is used to recharge the onboard 17 kilowatt-hour lithium polymer battery pack, which is centrally mounted down the middle of the car for optimal weight distribution. That battery pack can provide up to 35 miles of gasoline-free driving per full charge.

Because each rear wheel has a separate connection to its own electric motor, Lotus has programmed in torque vectoring for stability control of the vehicle. This means that a complex set of software algorithms can provide the same kind of benefits as rear-wheel steering and exaggerated toe-in without the expense or efficiency losses of a mechanical system. Each rear wheel puts down 204 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Further, though the actual transmission has only one forward ratio, Lotus has programmed in seven artificial "gears" that the driver can row through via a set of column-mounted paddle shifters. Also included is the HALOsonic Internal and External Electronic Sound Synthesis technologies from Lotus and Harman International that pipes artificial sound to both the cabin and outside to pedestrians. Australian/Malaysian automaker Bufori, which specializes in creating custom automobiles inspired by 1930s-era American coupes, has announced plans to introduce its new MKVI Luxury Saloon - soon to be christened with an official name as well - at the rapidly approaching Geneva Motor Show. If you thought Swiss companies like Rinspeed had the offbeat market cornered, think again.

Gerry Khouri, Managing Director and co-Founder of BUFORI said in a statement: "This new model marks an important milestone in the company's history. The MKVI is our first four-door saloon and we are excited at presenting this more contemporary interpretation of the BUFORI philosophy to the world."

Here's all we know about the saloon thus far: it will have a 6.1-liter V8 engine of unknown origin, rear-hinged coach doors and "endless customization options." Oh yeah, and it looks a little bit awkward in this initial teaser sketch. We'll see the new Bufori for ourselves in person come March 2nd, in the meantime, click past the break for the official press release.

Infiniti Essence Concept - click above for high-res image gallery

When we first laid eyes on Infiniti's Essence concept at this year's Geneva Motor Show, we were, quite frankly, smitten by its voluptuous lines. We apparently weren't alone, as Infiniti exec Ben Poore has reportedly told Motor Trend that reaction to the concept was "phenomenal." When the Essence was unveiled, Infiniti told the audience at Geneva that the vehicle was concept-only and that future vehicles would be influenced by its stunning design. We were a bit disappointed by that news, because, of course, the world can never have too many stunning twin-turbo V6 hybrid coupes capable of a combined 592 brake horsepower.

But while we were let down by Infiniti's initial decision on Essence, we're at least encouraged by the fact that Poore recently told MT that that the concept is "only a show piece... for now." Could that mean that we could have a production vehicle based off of the Essence in the future? We hope so. Will it have a twin-turbo 3.7-liter V6 with a lithium-ion backed disc-shaped electric motor? Perhaps not, but we wouldn't exactly be disappointed if it did.

Say "Duster" to most auto enthusiasts and you're likely to conjure up images of 1970's Plymouth Valiant-based muscle cars, or perhaps the P-bodied Chrysler buzzbins of the Eighties. What doesn't usually come to mind is the very first concept car from the Romanian low-cost transportation experts at Dacia.

Initially shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, word from Autocar now suggests that a production version of the showcar is on the way. According to the UK publication, the Duster will hit the ground running at next year's Geneva show, and it will launch with a choice of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines, as well as available all-wheel drive.

Interestingly, Autocar suggests that the production crossover will likely retain the concept's trick reconfigurable seats, including a passenger seat that can slide under the driver's seat for extra room. It's been a while since we heard anything about the long-time-coming partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin. But while we got a good look at what's inside Aston's new One-77 supercar, reports indicate that if we'd taken a peek under the Lagonda concept's skirt we would have seen the familiar parts of the Mercedes GL-Class sport-ute.

According to Aston CEO Ulrich Bez, the company tested a wide variety of luxury SUVs and found the Mercedes the most suitable. Only the wheelbase and A-pillar positioning are said to have carried over, with everything else having changed. The engine, however, is Aston's own. If they decide to build the Lagonda - a decision on which the mixed reaction in Geneva will undoubtedly be a factor - it could be ready in three to five years, but production would likely take place at Aston's own facilities in the UK rather than Mercedes' plant in Alabama.

Aston Martin One-77 internals - Click above for high-res gallery

At the Geneva Motor Show this week, Aston Martin publicly showed its limited-edition One-77 super-car for the first time. While the design is certainly attention grabbing, the machinery sitting next to it was perhaps even more so. On the first of two press days, the Aston stand was dominated by the first complete One-77 chassis laid bare for all the world to see. Resplendent in carbon-fiber and cast, forged and extruded aluminum, the skinless One-77 is an engineer's dream.

Chris Porritt, Chief Program Manager for the One-77, took a few minutes to give us a guided tour of this remarkable example of engineering art. The mechanical bits of the One-77 are built more like the guts of an Le Mans Prototype racer than any typical production car. Of course, calling this a production car is a stretch anyway given that only 77 examples will be produced. Major automakers typically produce more prototypes than that for a new vehicle program. No. 3, not exactly the most imaginative name, but the Kia concept car that so intrigued us at this week's Geneva Motor Show looks to be headed for production.

What looks to be a Soul-based mule has been nabbed in spy photographs while cold-weather testing in Sweden. Kia says the slick-looking MPV will haul five passengers in its Honda Fit sized footprint. From what we can tell in the spy shots, the No. 3 will be another entry in the small/useful/fun (hopefully) segment that actually looks pretty good. Hopefully they beautify the name to match the rest of the car.

Toyota officially unveiled the latest version of its slick looking, Euro-centric people mover at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Called the Verso (not to be confused with the Nissan Versa), the three-row, five-door hatchback wears handsome sheetmetal with lines that are definitely "in family" for Toyota. For as much as we like the outside, the instrument panel has Scion disease. Center gauges. Please stop it. That third row also has severely limited legroom, but it's still a neat trick to fit so many perches within a Corrola-sized footprint, even if some are occasional-use grade. The Verso will likely delight for bopping across the moorland, but you might need to have your legs removed so you'll fit in back.

Europeans are about to get one more soft-roading cute 'ute to add to their shopping lists now that Skoda, Volkswagen's Czech subsidiary, has released the production version of the Yeti at the Geneva Motor Show. First shown in concept form back at the 2005 show in Geneva, the production Yeti keeps the same basic design as its conceptual forebear, but we think it loses some of what made it so interesting in the first place.

Gone is the contrasting white roof that was obviously cribbed from Toyota's FJ Cruiser but looked perfect in this application. So too gone are the flanks, now smoothed out and looking very first-gen Honda CR-V-ish and missing the hidden rear door handles from the concept. See for yourself, we've included a gallery of the concept along with live shots of the production Yeti below.

Inside, the Yeti features the same innovative seating arrangement as the Roomster, featuring three separate rear buckets that can individually slide fore and aft or be removed completely. Gas and diesel-powered engines ranging from 1.2 liters to 2.0 liters will be offered with up to 170 horsepower along with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Expect sales in Europe to begin later this year.

The Bleu Centenaire wasn't the only limited edition Veyron on the floor at the Geneva Motor Show. While Bugatti has created a wide array of individualization programs for its supercar, German tuner Mansory saw fit to create its own and displayed a revised version of the Veyron dubbed the Linea Vincero. We got our first look at the car back in December when it was mysteriously pictured on a dealer web site, but with its official unveiling we now have full details from Mansory. Exterior modifications are relatively subtle and include a new front fascia, shorter hood, LED daytime running lights, side skirts, a diffuser, larger side and rear air outlets and new forged wheels. The interior features carbon fiber accents, special leather seating and trim and an ambient lighting system utilizing LEDs. Unlike the other Veyron models, the Vincero comes with a power upgrade, up to 1109 bhp and 967 lb-ft torque, thanks to an upgraded cooling system and exhaust system. With a total of three planned for production, the Linea Vincero could very well be one of the more popular color combinations out there. Since its inception back in 1985, Wiesmann has been busy building beautiful retro-themed coupes and convertibles, and to celebrate its 20th anniversary (of what, exactly, we're not sure) the automaker has just released its MF4 Roadster at the Geneva Motor Show. We love the old-school looks, especially the soft top that collapses on the rear parcel shelf as it does on classic British and German roadsters. The running gear, though, is thoroughly modern and highlighted by a modified version of the BMW M3's 4.0-liter V8, in this case tuned to put out 367 horsepower.

If you want one, you'd better act fast. Wiesmann only plans to assemble between 250 and 350 units this year, and they are only available in Europe for now.

Late last month we learned that KTM was planning to bring two new versions of its X-Bow roadster to the Geneva Motor Show. One of those machines is the new X-Bow ROC edition, and our men on the scene managed to assemble a gallery of live shots of the new model that you can view in the gallery below. This new ROC edition was built to commemorate the Austrian firm's inclusion in last year's 2008 Race of Champions, so it fittingly features a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque shell and adds a sports exhaust to Audi's 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder mill that's shared with other models in the range. Unique paint and badges also help set it apart from lesser X-Bows.

Despite the fact this new model shares plenty of special bits with the top-level Superlight X-Bow, KTM was able to price the limited edition ROC model rather aggressively with a base MSRP of 69,980 euros - a full 10,000 less than its pricier sibling. Also new is the X-Bow Street, which retails for an even more wallet-friendly 49,980 euros. Read the full press release from KTM after the break.

The curiously shaped Lagonda revival, absurdly potent One-77 supercar and V12-powered Vantage were not the only new vehicles that Aston Martin brought to the Geneva Motor Show. Last but certainly not least is the DBS Volante, which is Aston-speak for a droptop version of James Bond's favorite ride. Powered by a 6.0-liter V12 that's shared with the standard DBS, the new Volante delivers 510 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque to its 6-speed rear-mounted gearbox, available in either standard manual shift or in sequential Touchtronic forms. It's a stunning package to be sure, and with a 0 to 60 run of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 191 miles per hour, it's got plenty of toupee-lifting performance to match. The V8 Vantage is a true beauty, and it's more powerful than ever with it's new 4.7L V8. That may be enough grunt for a lesser GT, but the Vantage is getting even more pony power later this year. The upgraded V12 Vantage will receive Aston Martin's 6.0L V12 engine capable of 510 hp and 420 lb-ft. With the recent horsepower wars, it seems as though you can get 510 hp anywhere, but the V12 Vantage is more than just the world's most beautiful sports coupe. Ginormous ceramic brakes, liberal use of carbon fiber and vastly stiffened spring rates ensure that the V12 Vantage is more than just a gussied up version of its V8-powered sibling.

If you're wealthy and looking to score this V12 beauty, you'll have to wait until after the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in May. Aston CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez announced that a V12 Vantage modified only with safety equipment would run the world's most famous track before the British supercar is given the go-ahead for production. After seeing the V12 Vantage in person on the floor of the Geneva Motor Show, we're guessing this twelve-pot Aston will be worth the wait.

The 2010 Mazda CX-7 may have made its global debut at the Toronto Auto Show in February, but we're seeing it for the first time in person at the Geneva Motor Show this week. At first glance, the CX-7 looks largely unchanged versus the 2009 model, but closer inspection reveals subtle tweaks. New for 2010 are a larger grille, updated front and rear fascias and a refashioned interior. The biggest addition to the CX-7 lineup in North America is the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that powers the 2010 Ford Fusion and Mazda3, though power will be reduced slightly to 161 horsepower. The base four will have a lower sticker price than the 2009 model while also improving fuel economy. The turbocharged, 244-hp 2.3-liter four-cylinder remains unchained for the 2010 model year.

BMW tuner par excellence Alpina is returning to the motor racing scene for the first time in two decades with the new B6 GT3, which the pseudo-works firm unveiled for the first time here at the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the 6 Series, the B6 GT3 features a unique radial supercharger fitted to its 4.4-liter V8 to drive 530 horsepower to the rear wheels - in proper Bavarian style - in what looks to be a compelling competition package.

Alpina itself will be fielding a pair in the European FIA GT3 series and at "selected 24-hour endurance races" (Nurburgring, Le Mans... we're looking at you), but the B6 GT3 will also be offered to private teams. Alpina has fitted adjustable everything to the car and a full array of electronic control systems to ensure that gentlemen racers - not just professional drivers - will be able to handle it and so that the car will qualify for a wide array of racing series. We're looking forward to seeing the green menace tackling the Green Hell soon, but in the meantime had to content ourselves with checking it out at Alpina's show stand here in Geneva where it was displayed alongside the new B7 Bi-Turbo, which we'll have for you shortly. Nothing says "happy birthday" like 700 horsepower and nearly 1000 lb-ft of torque. That's what Brabus figures, at least, and we're with them. To mark the 30th anniversary of the indomitable Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, Brabus presented the G V12 S Biturbo here at the Geneva Motor Show, and it could hardly be missed in the middle of the Palexpo show floor. The tuned twin-turbo 6.3-liter V12 sits in a tricked out G-Wagen decked out in black with LED headlamps, custom bodywork, black leather everything, a 163-mph top end and a physics-defying 4.3-second spring to 60 mph. At nearly half a million on the sticker, you're not likely to see one parked at the local mini mall - unless you live in car-bonkers Abu Dhabi where a supposedly McLaren-powered G-Wagen was spotted last year - so better check it out in the galleries below.

A few weeks back, Citroen announced that it would bring the DS appellation to a line of premium models based on several of its existing cars. The first example will evidently be the DS3 coming next year. In spite of bringing the car to the Geneva Motor Show in concept form this week, Citroen is apparently not too keen on people actually seeing the car itself. A styling buck of the DS3 is tucked away in a tiny dark alcove off the back of the main Citroen display at the PalExpo. Once you step inside there is a narrow walkway around the car and the lighting is mostly dim with occasional flashes.

It's truly a shame because the DS3 is actually a pretty decent looking three-door hatchback with some interesting styling elements, aside from the hot pink roof over the gray body. Aside from the dual chevrons, though, there is nothing about this car that is reminiscent of an original DS. Hopefully next time Citroen will exhibit some confidence and show this car out in the open.
