A year away from seeing the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo, the 2013 model gets a few more brushstrokes of color and style to do its blaze-of-glory thing. The entry-level LP550-2 Coupe and Spyder, and the LP570-4 Superleggera and Spyder Performante go without any changes at all, and the LP570-4 Trofeo Stradale is no longer available.

The middle-child LP560-4 Coupe and Spyder get "more aggressive front and rear styling," which translates into a more conventional intake arrangement with diagonal design elements in front and a restyled front fender vents. The theme is repeated in back with body-colored diagonal elements breaking up the vent under the taillamps. Exclusive wheel and tire combinations will also let aficionados know that this isn't the 550-2 or the hardcore model.

Because a Gallardo would need to see a therapist if it didn't have an Italianate special edition, the Edizione Tecnica package is the flavor for 2013. It is comprised of E-Gear, the system to lift the front end over humps, carbon ceramic brakes and a bestrutted rear wing. Available on the Superleggera and Spyder Performante, it comes in three exclusive color combos: Nero Nemesis/Arancio Argos (matte black/orange, shown inset), its opposite Arancio Argos/Nero Nemesis (orange/matte black) and Bianco Canopus/Arancio Argos (matte white/orange).

The menace at the top of the food chain, the Aventador, gets start/stop technology, cylinder deactivation and a retune for the suspension as standard kit. Carbon packages are added to the cosmetic choices inside and out, and it also gets new shoes in the options closet in 20- and 21-inch Dione forged wheels in three finishes. Have a look below for a press release with more details, and we'll have live images from the Paris Motor Show floor soon.
Continue reading Lamborghini releases 2013 Gallardo details

Lamborghini releases 2013 Gallardo details originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 26 Sep 2012 15:33:00 EST.
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera chases a Porsche 911 GT3 through Paris - Click above to watch video after the jump

Before we go salivating all over the thought of two of Europe's best and brightest going the distance through the City of Lights, we should probably start off with an obligatory "don't try this at home." The kids you see sliding around the Parisian streets in the video after the jump are trained professionals working in a semi-controlled environment, so do us all a favor and keep your reenactments confined to your Need For Speed marathons.

That said, the video is a well-shot interpretation of what a full lap of Paris might look like as a Porsche 911 GT3 and a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera go fender-to-fender. Our early money was on the Raging Bull strolling away with the checkered flag, but Stuttgart's finest seemed to have no problem keeping the big bad Italian behind its winged tail-end as the two snake around the French capitol. Hit the jump to see the action for yourself.

Obvious lengthy name jokes aside, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is one heck of a performance machine. It's all about saving weight when it comes to this car ("Superleggera," after all, means "super light"), so it strikes us as something of a surprise to see this prototype of a Spyder version out testing on the Nürburgring.

Most noticeably, the hardtop Superleggera's rear wing is gone, but the large front spoiler and rear diffuser make it clear that this Gallardo means business. Besides, Lamborghini has been known to keep weight under control with its Erector Set roof assemblies, so we'd expect the Superleggera Spyder to generate the same sort of super lightweight thrills with a whole lot more wind in your hair.

Expect to see the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder (now that's a mouthful) at the Paris Motor Show later this year. For now, click through our gallery below for the full raft of high-res spy shots.

Lamborghini Gallardo L 570-4 Superleggera - Click above for high-res image gallery

In case you hadn't noticed, the 2010 Geneva Motor Show is about to start and one of the big debuts on day one will be this, the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera. It's the first successor to the original Gallardo Superleggera ("superlight" in Italian) that debuted in 2007 and will sit atop the Gallardo range as the little Lambo to beat.

Just like the first car, the new 570-4 Superleggera is 70 kilograms, or 154 lbs, lighter than the Gallardo below it, in this case the LP 560-4. Its dry weight is just 2,954 lbs, which itself is far below the last superlight Gallardo at 3,153 lbs. Whereas that car was powered by 5.0 liters of V10 fury producing 530 horsepower, the new 570-4 model is propelled by a direct-injected 5.2-liter V10 of the same origin making its namesake 570 hp. Add the lighter weight to the increased power and you get a 0-62 mile per hour time of 3.4 seconds and top speed of 202 mph.

Lots of carbon fiber help make the light weight possible, while 19-inch forged aluminum wheels wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber, optional carbon ceramic disc brakes, permanent all-wheel drive (hence the "-4" in its name) and a six-speed e-gear transmission round out the supporting cast of performance hardware.

Follow the jump for Lamborghini's complete (and extremely exhaustive) press release and stay tuned tomorrow for our first live pics of the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera from the show floor.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560-4 - Click above for high-res image gallery

According to the Lamborghini lovers at the Teamspeed Forums, there's a new, even higher-performance version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 on the way to the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. No surprise, really, as the Gallardo's successor isn't expected until 2012 or so, and Lambo is always working on improving the breed.

We're told to expect a 10-horsepower bump up to 570 ponies, which will then be distributed to all four wheels (making this the LP570-4, naturally). A stripped-down interior (a la the Gallardo Superlegerra), an updated aero package including a new front spoiler and a large carbon fiber rear wing, a reworked front suspension arrangement, and carbon ceramic brakes may also be in the works.

Looking past the possible LP570-4, an LP590-2 swan song for the current Gallardo range could be in the offing for 2011. Assuming it'd follow in the footsteps of the the Gallardo L550-2 Valentino Balboni, that the theoretical LP590-2 would eschew all-wheel drive and go old-school, sending all 590 horsepower to the rear wheels.

If these rumors prove accurate, dealers and VIP customers ought to get a sneak peek of the Gallardo LP570-4 in January, prior to the car's official debut in Geneva. Sales are apparently pegged for May of 2010. Thanks for the tip, DJ!

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lamborghini Murcielago SV

Those who have been praying for a two-wheel drive Lamborghini, your wishes may have been granted twofold. De Telegraaf is reporting that Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed not one, but two different rear-drive-only Lambos for 2009. First up will be a Murciélago LP640-2 with 640 HP coming from its mid-mounted longitudinal V12. The "2" at the end of the moniker signifies two-wheel-drive, separating it from the current LP640-4 equipped with AWD. It's still possible this model will be dubbed SV for Super Veloce. It's no Diablo SVTT or Murcielago R-GT, but it'll do.

Next up will be the a new Superleggera Gallardo LP560-2, as in Superlight Gallardo, with a longitudinal 560 HP engine in back, also driving the rear wheels. That should keep the Gallardo neck-and-neck with the Scuderia from arch-nemesis Ferrari. The elimination of the AWD equipment should save quite a few kilos and make the driving experience a bit hairier for anyone intent on stepping up to wrestle these bulls. Expect to see them late next year, possibly as 2010 models.

Gallery: Lamborghini Murcielago SV - spy shots

[Source: Autotelegraaf.nl]
Rumormill: Lamborghini working on two rear-wheel-drive cars for 2009 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 19:01:00 EST.
Some things you figure are universal. Like time, for example. But for a tuning house that regularly takes the fastest cars around and tinkers with them just for kicks, time - say, production dates and acceleration numbers - might not hold the same meaning as it does for the rest of us mere mortals.

Never minding that Lamborghini has ceased production of the Gallardo Superleggera to make way for the new LP560-4, German uber-tuners EDO competition has come out with a package for the stripped-out Raging Bull. With a simple twist of the ECU, a new catalytic converter and a carbon fiber air box, power is pumped up to 560 horses and torque to 398 lb-ft, dropping the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time down to 3.7 seconds and the top speed nudging 320 km/h (199 mph). EDO's also installed a variable-noise exhaust and dropped the right height by 15 mm and can outfit any of the 172 Superleggeras produced with custom-painted 19" three-piece modular rims.

The king is dead; long live the king. With barely a whimper, the short-lived and short-geared Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera has slipped quietly into the night. Its truncated production run yielded just 172 examples - 10 in white, 34 in gray, 37 in black, 45 in yellow and 46 in orange (each of whose owners thought they were being original) - ensuring that the Superleggera will become a collector's item years from now. The departure of the Superleggera comes hot on the heels of the introduction of the new LP560-4 and makes room for a new stripped out Gallardo.

German magazine AutoZeitung is betting that a new model to be called the Dino will be on display, a car designed to rival the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

The Dino will likely feature a 400-hp mid-mounted V8 engine fed with cold air via two large inlets on the rear fenders. Top speed should be in excess of 185 mph with the 0-62 mph taking roughly four seconds. Additional features would be an F1-style gearbox, carbon-fiber brakes and a lightweight composite body. Adding to the speculation, Ferrari could also reveal the upcoming F430 Challenge Stradale in Frankfurt, as hinted by its Chairman Luca di Montezemolo earlier in the year.

In response, arch rival Lamborghini may unveil its own entry-level model with a new Gallardo V8 that was spotted recently by spy photographers circling the Nurburgring, as well as a Murciélago Superleggera seen in recent spy shots. In all, there's reported to be up to 22 different sports cars at the Frankfurt show, so if you're a car nut you better start saving those euros and taking German classes.

[Source: Auto Zeitung]
New Ferrari Dino tipped to be at Frankfurt Auto Show originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Jun 2007 12:29:00 EST. While the rest of the automotive world was looking to Geneva and New York to see the new Superleggera, LOC had one of its own to display. Well, for one night at least. It was unveiled during a VIP reception so that the dealership's customers could see it for themselves. While it looked pretty hot in its searing Aranco Borealis finish, the new Lambo seemed to be missing something. When one customer asked where the window sticker was, another said, "It doesn't really matter anymore, they're all gone. The lucky bastards." This limited edition, track-friendly Gallardo is limited to 350 units for 2007, all of which are already spoken for.

Weighing about 200 pounds less than the regular Gallardo, the carbon fiber diet is readily apparent. Just like Ferrari did with the CS version of their 360, the carbon fiber mirrors are the easiest tipoff that this is the sportiest variant. Lamborghini goes one better with an unpainted carbon fiber rear decklid as well, though, and carries that theme through with an oddly proportioned, but functional, optional rear spoiler. We might pass on that bit if we were doing the buying. The black side strip is a bit odd-looking, too, but we have no complaints about the Alcantara interior with racing seats and harnesses.

With a slight bump in power and a modest reduction in weight for a whole lot more cash, some might see this as much ado about nothing. But the devil is in the details, as they say. A not-insignificant 12 pounds has been shaved from each corner resulting in less unsprung weight and sharper reflexes for this somewhat hefty awd machine. That, coupled with a switch to Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber, means sharper turn-in and overall quicker responses to inputs. The powerband is said to have been remapped for more immediate reaction to stabs at the loud pedal. We begged and pleaded to get one for our garage, but this Superleggera was headed out for another stop the next morning.

Gallery: Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera has West Coast debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 08 Apr 2007 13:35:00 EST. Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo basically told reporters as much at the Geneva auto show. The model that will debut in Frankfurt is an evolution of the F430, which is expected to be more powerful and lighter than the current coupe through the use of F1 engineering and technology. This will follow the pattern Ferrari set with the 360 series, when a Challenge racecar was built off that platform, then a street version of that racecar sold to the public. We still aren't sure whether the F430 version will wear the Challenge Stradale moniker, but we do suspect that power will be around 525 (up from 489) and that weight should drop by a couple hundred pounds to keep it on par with Lamborghini's recent Gallardo Superleggera and Porsche's 911 GT3 RS. Whatever they call it, we will officially go on record as saying it will be our new favorite Ferrari. Until the 599 Barchetta pops up, that is.

[Source: Automotive News, sub. req'd]
Continue reading Ferrari to debut new model in Frankfurt, not the Dino

Ferrari to debut new model in Frankfurt, not the Dino originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 16:29:00 EST.
