	<br />
	<em>The Detroit Free Press</em> is reporting that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/national highway traffic safety administration/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/malibu/">Chevrolet Malibu</a> models as well as some 2007-2009 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/saturn/aura/">Saturn Aura</a> sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/general motors/">General Motors</a> recalled 8,000 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/pontiac/">Pontiac</a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/pontiac/g6/"> G6</a> models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">NHTSA</a> is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.</p>
<p>
	In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/13/nhtsa-could-add-1m-cars-to-gm-recall/">NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Mar 2013 09:12:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/general motors">General Motors</a> is recalling a total of 67,414 sedans in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/canada">Canada</a> for power steering failures. The campaign covers 2005, 2006 and 2008 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/malibu">Chevrolet Malibu</a> and Malibu Maxx models as well as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/pontiac g6">Pontiac G6</a> vehicles. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/saturn aura">2008 Saturn Aura</a> is also included in the recall. Transport Canada says while power steering may fail, drivers will still be able to maintain control of their vehicle with additional steering effort. Owners will be notified of the failure by a chime and an illuminated warning light on the instrument panel.<br />
<br />
Neither <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/gm">GM</a> nor Transport Canada is saying what causes the failures, though the automaker has agreed to replace the steering column in 2005 and 2006 models, while 2008 vehicles will receive new power steering motor control modules. You can view <a href="/2012/10/03/gm-recalls-67k-epsilon-vehicles-in-canada/#continued">the complete recall notice</a> from Transport Canada below for more information. It is unclear whether or not U.S. vehicles will see a similar recall.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/03/gm-recalling-67k-chevy-malibu-pontiac-g6-and-saturn-aura-models/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GM recalling 67k Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura models in Canada</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/03/gm-recalling-67k-chevy-malibu-pontiac-g6-and-saturn-aura-models/">GM recalling 67k Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura models in Canada</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Oct 2012 15:45:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/gm/">General Motors</a> is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/saturn/aura/">Saturn Aura</a> models, and 2008-2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/malibu/">Chevrolet Malibu</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/pontiac/g6">Pontiac G6</a> models.<br />
<br />
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.<br />
<br />
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. <a href="/2012/09/21/gm-recalling-426-000-sedans-over-faulty-transmission-shift-cable/#continued">Scroll down</a> to read the complete NHTSA report.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/21/gm-recalling-426-000-sedans-over-faulty-transmission-shift-cable/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/21/gm-recalling-426-000-sedans-over-faulty-transmission-shift-cable/">GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2012 09:58:00 EST. <br />The Pontiac brand may be on its way out the door, but that doesn't mean it can't have one last fling with a renowned tuner. Hurst Performance Vehicles, the legendary shifter company that most recently has made waves with its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/19/how-its-made-hurst-hemi-dodge-challenger/">Hemi Challenger</a>, announced its new H.O. program for the Pontiac G6 and G8. Few details have been released regarding the performance upgrades of the cars, but each will feature Hurst's signature black/gold or white/gold paint scheme, forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension upgrades, and a newly trimmed interior. <br /><br />To help with the development of the car, Hurst also brought on performance icon "Doc" Watson, who developed such vehicles as the Hurst Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Pontiac SSJ. Only 52 Hurst H.O. Pontiacs will be built along with ten G6 convertibles used as parade and special event vehicles. More details regarding the performance upgrades will be announced on August 1st, but until then all the available information can be found in the press release after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/hurst-announces-pontiac-h-o-g8-and-g6/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hurst announces Pontiac H.O. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><small style="font-weight: bold;">Pontiac Vibe GT - Click above for high-res image gallery </small></em><br /></div>
<br />Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Last Pontiac Standing will be the nearly new Vibe. The compact hatchback was the predictable pick not just due to its young age, but because it is part of General Motors' longstanding NUMMI joint-venture plant with Toyota.<br /><br />Understandably, the Vibe isn't set to get a big update for 2010, but according to GM's 2010 Product Guide, front- and all-wheel drive models will continue, as will <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe/">the sportier GT</a>. The Vibe will receive a new Ignition Orange Metallic paint option (Mystic Blue Metallic goes away), a new luggage rack will be available on all-wheel drive models, and a couple of new option packages appear on the order sheet for the base 1.8-liter four-cylinder model (Sun &amp; Sound and cargo management). Air-conditioning will be standard across the range for the first time.<br /><br />In other news, the G6 will also soldier on in 2010, albeit only for fleet buyers. It is unclear what body styles will survive, but the sedan is a reasonable bet, although it is possible that coupe models will soldier on as well.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt">Review: 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_09vibe_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/05_09vibe_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/00_09vibe_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_09vibe_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_09vibe_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: General Motors]<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/last-call-pontiac-vibe-final-consumer-model-for-dead-brand/">Last Call: Pontiac Vibe final consumer model for dead brand </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 15:29:00 EST. GM will continue to build its accelerated viability plan around four brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC.<br /><br />As part of its latest announcement, GM also announced that it plans to have "the resolution" of Saab, Saturn, and Hummer by the end of 2009 "at the latest." In total, GM plans to end up with just 34 nameplates for 2010, as compared to 48 for 2008 - a reduction of some 29%. Further, as part of its viability plan tendered to President Obama's Auto Task Force, the automaker's revised viability plan projects that GM's total market share will dip to 18.4 to 18.9% - the plan is banking on a 19.5 percent share for this year.<br /><br />A media conference call is scheduled for later this morning and we will have more details and analysis following that, but for now, the official press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/officially-official-gm-kills-pontiac/">after the jump</a>.<br /><em><strong><br />*UPDATE: LIVE WEBCAST</strong> of GM press conference embedded <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/officially-official-gm-kills-pontiac/">after the jump</a>... <strike>going on right now!</strike></em> (Concluded)<br /><br />[Source: General Motors]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/officially-official-gm-kills-pontiac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: GM kills Pontiac *UPDATED with LIVE webcast embed*</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/officially-official-gm-kills-pontiac/">Officially Official: GM kills Pontiac *UPDATED with LIVE webcast embed*</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 08:50:00 EST. The models involved, all built for the 2009 model year, may have a loose clip on their transmission shift cable. The failure of the clip to be locked into place may prevent the transmission from moving into Park - even if the driver moves the shift lever into the proper position. GM has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that dealers will inspect the transmission shift cable and replace broken units. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for hi-res gallery of the 2009.5 Pontiac G6 Convertible</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />There's not a whole lot going on for General Motors at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a>, but the company's making some minor announcements via press release before the shindig in la-la land gets underway tomorrow. The Pontiac G6 receives a minor facelift as a 2009&amp;frac12; model, with updated front and rear fascias and some interior tweaks. Those interior improvements bring the G6 up to par with its platform-mate brethren and include new trim bits, the standard GM radio (in a 2007 G6 I drove, the radio had this ridiculous ribbing on the dials -- a very 90s-Poncho feel), "all-new" (read: GM partsbin) HVAC controls, and an optional MY LINK communication package that includes Bluetooth, a dash-mounted USB port and related tech. You can also get a more attractive 2-tone interior with leather or cloth seats as an upgrade over the standard (and dreary) all-black treatment. <br /><br />Underhood, the G6 Coupe is now available with the 4-cyl/6-speed powertrain combo, complete with paddle shifting. A flex-fuel 3.5L V6 is also available at no additional cost over the gas version in the full range of body styles, so the dozen G6 shoppers who <em>also</em> have access to actual E85 pumps should be enthused. The convertible's 3.9L V6 carries over and the 3.6L "high feature" V6, as before, is exclusive to the GXP. By the way, the GXP does not get any facelift love, and thus the infamous "Street Edition" <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g6-gxp/1166037/">remains ugly enough</a> to stop every clock in a 132-mile radius. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan">2009.5 Pontiac G6 Sedan</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6sedan_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6sedan_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6sedan_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6sedan_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6sedan_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe">2009.5 Pontiac G6 Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6coupe_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6coupe_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6coupe_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6coupe_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-coupe/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6coupe_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible">2009.5 Pontiac G6 Convertible</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6vert_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6vert_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6vert_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6vert_hi_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-5-pontiac-g6-convertible/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/09-5_g6vert_hi_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Pontiac via <a href="http://www.finchannel.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=24515&amp;Itemid=1">finchannel.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/18/2009-5-pontiac-g6-sedan-coupe-and-convertible-get-facelift-gxp/">2009.5 Pontiac G6 Sedan, Coupe and Convertible get facelift, GXP remains horrifying</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 11:29:00 EST. The updated design was recently photographed by spies, actual spies, around Detroit, and the changes to the G6 schnoz are clear. Pontiac designers will be adding some creases to the new front end giving it some angularity that's lacking on the current model, while the twin air intakes of the current car that mirror the grille shape will be replaced with one central lower air intake flanked by two smaller ones and requisite fog lamps. There may be some tweaks to the rear taillamps as well, but we're told those will be minor. Thankfully, the 2009 G6 comes available with GM's new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/14/charting-the-changes-my2009-sees-big-improvements-by-gm/">six-speed transmission</a> for the first time, making the overall package much more enticing. Some minor plastic surgery should only sweeten the deal for this very competent car in Pontiac's lineup. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots">Refreshed Pontiac G6 - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/g6cpe.current1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/g6cpe.current2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/g6cpe.facelift.f1.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/g6cpe.facelift.f2.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/refreshed-pontiac-g6-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/g6cpe.facelift.f4.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: KGP Photography]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/30/spy-shots-pontiac-g6-gets-minor-nose-job/">Spy Shots: Pontiac G6 gets minor nose job</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 30 May 2008 10:57:00 EST. Either way, you'll need to fork over some extra cash if stepping up to the new top model in Pontiac's G6 line up, the G6 GXP. The 2008 Pontiac GXP Coupe will start at $26,595 and the sedan version will base at $26,795. Both prices include a delivery fee of $650. <br /><br />If you're really daring, you can hand the dealer another $990 for the Street Edition Package that violates all manner of civilized taste. Included in the Street package is a "hammerhead" spoiler that could easily seat two for lunch, as well as all sorts of "scoops and bezels" on the hood. As far as we can tell the G6 GXP comes with that garish nose regardless of whether you choose the Street Edition Package. <br /><br />The front-wheel drive G6 GXP comes with GM's 3.6L V6 producing 252 horsepower and 251 ft-lbs of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. That should be enough to squirt the car past that chuckling mob of onlookers, although push it too hard and torque steer might drive you right into them. The car's also feature a performance-tuned suspension and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. If you can't tell, we're not big fans of the G6 GXP's styling, but otherwise it's got some decent hardware to back up being labeled a GXP car. <br /><br />[Source: Inside Line]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/24/pontiac-prices-g6-gxp-from-26-595/">Pontiac prices G6 GXP from $26,595</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 24 Aug 2007 15:57:00 EST. <p>Remember when we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/16/video-pontiac1-places-g8-and-g6-gxp-in-rap-video/">suggested</a> there was no way that rapper 50 Cent would <em>choose</em> to put two Pontiacs, the G8 and G6 GXP, in his video for "Amusement Park"? In fact, we went so far as to say that you'd have to suspend disbelief in order to think that Fiddy would want his girlz sliding all over Pontiacs instead of Lambos and Bentleys.</p>
<p>Well, we were wrong. </p>
<p>What we should have remembered is that rappers work in mysterious ways. According to a Pontiac spokeswoman, 50 saw the G6 GXP -- a car that could be called "Flipper" based on that massive, trunk-mounted fluke -- and G8 at the NAIAS, and requested them himself. Total cost to Pontiac: $0.00. <br /></p>
<p>The last time we heard about 50 being pulled over, it was in a Murcielago Roadster, and word is he's also selling his Connecticut mansion. Does his new album "Curtis" and the Pontiac fetish herald a slower, more frugal 50 Cent?</p>
<p>Thanks for the tip, Alex!</p>

With the introduction of the Pontiac G8, however, all is forgiven, for this muscular four-door appears poised to offer a blend of attitude and sophistication appropriate for the brand that claims to build excitement. <br /><br />This Poncho is based upon GM's new Zeta platform, and the base model offers up a 261-hp, DOHC 3.6L V6. GT models get the 362-hp, L98 OHV 6.0L V8 with Displacement on Demand. No bonus points will be awarded for correctly guessing which we'd pick. The V6 will come with a five-speed slushbox, while the V8 will initially be backed with GM's new 6L80 six-speed auto, and a row-your-own manual with a half-dozen ratios will follow at a yet-undetermined later date. Naturally, the GT gets a bigger wheel/tire package and larger brakes, and a sport package will be offered for either engine type. Under the skin lies a McPherson strut suspension arrangement in the front and multi-link in the rear, with the full array of adjustments available at each corner. <br /><br />Elements of the show car that won't make it to production include the big brakes, lowered ride height, 20" wheels, and custom interior trim. Note the new badge design; what we're seeing here is a concept version of a new Pontiac logo that eschews the traditional red coloration for a metallic sheen. <br /><br />Click on the photo above for a gallery of Pontiac G8 live photos and studio shots! Also, check out the exclusive <strong>VIDEO</strong> of the G8 and Bob Lutz introducing the new rear-wheel drive sedan after the jump.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1">2008 Pontiac G8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_pontiac-g8---25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_pontiac-g8---21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_pontiac-g8---13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_pontiac-g8---20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-1/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_pontiac-g8---18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/chicago-auto-show-gm-rwd-fans-can-rejoice-for-the-pontiac-g8-h/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chicago Auto Show: GM RWD fans can rejoice, for the Pontiac G8 has arrived (w/ VIDEO!)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/chicago-auto-show-gm-rwd-fans-can-rejoice-for-the-pontiac-g8-h/">Chicago Auto Show: GM RWD fans can rejoice, for the Pontiac G8 has arrived (w/ VIDEO!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 Feb 2007 17:42:00 EST. What you do get when you upgrade, is a little more pedestrian Pontiac excitement.<br /><br />Like its larger sibling, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-pontiac-torrent-gxp/">Torrent GXP</a>, the G6 GXP will get GM's 3.6-liter V6, complete with variable valve timing, 252 HP and 251 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed, automatic that's been optimized for front-wheel drive performance.<br /><br />On the outside, the GXP variant can be distinguished from its lesser counterparts by revised front and rear ends, chrome grill surrounds, bulging hood with scoops and a "hammerhead" spoiler. Naturally, upgraded wheels are part of the mix, so you'll find a set of multi-spoke, 18-inchers at all four corners.<br /><br />The front suspension utilizes a MacPherson strut setup, complete with aluminum control arms, while the rear gets a four-link independent suspension. <br /><br />While it may not be as close to its racetrack-bred elder brother as some would like, the G6 GXP may prove the axiom of selling on Monday whatcha raced on Sunday.<br /><br />The full press release is post after the jump.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-g6-gxp---1_thumbnail.jpg"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-g6-gxp---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g6-gxp/127824/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-g6-gxp---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g6-gxp/127819/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-g6-gxp---6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g6-gxp/127931/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/g6_gxp_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g6-gxp/127929/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/g6_gxp_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><strong>For our comprehensive listing of everything from Detroit, click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-debuts-and-galleries/">here</a>.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-pontiac-g6-gxp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Auto Show: Pontiac G6 GXP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-pontiac-g6-gxp/">Detroit Auto Show: Pontiac G6 GXP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 20:06:00 EST. In its place, the G6 GXP.R is set to compete in the 2007 series, where it will rub fenders with the best and brightest from BMW and Porsche.<br /><br />The tube chassis racer is built to Grand America GT class specs and equipped with an LS2 pushrod V8, making upwards of 450 HP and sending power to the rear wheels. Although the exterior is a dead ringer for the production G6, most of the body panels have been replaced with carbon-fiber pieces.<br /><br />Expect the GXP.R to make its debut at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona later this year.<br /><br />The full press release is posted after the jump.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/g6_gxpr_1_thumbnail.jpg"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/g6_gxpr_1_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pontiac-gxp-r/127841/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-gxp.r---3_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pontiac-gxp-r/127840/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-gxp.r---5_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pontiac-gxp-r/127842/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-gxp.r---2_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pontiac-gxp-r/127839/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/pontiac-gxp.r---4_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><strong>For our comprehensive listing of everything from Detroit, click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-debuts-and-galleries/">here</a>.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-pontiac-g6-gxp-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Auto Show: Pontiac G6 GXP.R</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-pontiac-g6-gxp-r/">Detroit Auto Show: Pontiac G6 GXP.R</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 15:23:00 EST. For a brand that was once deemed "damaged" by car guy Bob Lutz, Pontiac is destined to make a huge splash at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
<p>An interesting rumor is that the next G6 replacement will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle on a yet-to-be determined platform. Could this be a viable contender to the 3-series?</p>
<p>Yet another possibility is a rear-drive compact car replacing the current badge-engineered G5 under the G4 name. Speculation has this vehicle riding on the Kappa platform that underpins the Solstice and being available in both coupe and sedan models. GM has been mulling a second Kappa car for a while, and it sounds like it still is.</p>
<p>Last but not least, there has been talk of a Grand Prix replacement called the G8 that will be built on the Zeta platform. From what we hear this car will definitely appear at the Chicago Auto Show in February, if not sooner at the Detroit show in January Aren't rumors great?<br /></p>

But the G6 convertible, which went on sale in April, is also gone for the rest of the (model) year. The convertible completes the G6 lineup that includes the sedan and the coupe and is one of the least expensive hardtops in the market at less than $30,000. <br /><br />Jim Mateja of the Chicago Tribune found the convertible pleasant to drive and quite roomy for passengers though the trunk shrinks considerably, a common problem among hardtop convertibles. Mateja asked Pontiac if the brand's considering bringing back the Firebird due to the G6's success. Spokesperson Jim Hopson replied, "We have no plans to revive the Firebird name, but have made no secret that if GM decides to build the Chevy Camaro, that rear-wheel-drive architecture would make a great basis for other rear-drive cars and Pontiac is interested."<br /><br />[Source: Chicago Tribune]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/20/pontiac-hangs-sold-out-on-g6-convertible/">Pontiac hangs 'Sold Out' sign on G6 convertible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Jun 2006 14:53:00 EST. According to the <em>Pittsburgh Post-Gazette</em>, while sales for the sporty
brand may have dropped in the first quarter this year compared to 2005, some of those figures can be attributed to GM's
de-emphasis of fleet sales as the automaker moves away from that market. And while the Solstice is still sold out, the
G6, now made (in)famous on Oprah, has already posted a 78-pct increase this quarter compared to last year. GM partially
attributes the G6's sales success to new trim packages, more powerful engine choices, and appealing design. The
automaker points to studies showing that the brand has some of the youngest buyers in its segment, helping it to
compete with Honda and Nissan.<br /><br />But Pontiac watchers are concerned. They point to the upcoming G5, based on
the Chevrolet Cobalt, and worry about a repeat of the badge-engineering that damaged the marque in the first place.
Pontiac, though, says the G5 will be distinctly a Pontiac. <br /><br />[Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/12/pontiac-sales-continue-to-climb/">Pontiac sales continue to climb</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 12 Apr 2006 15:08:00 EST.
