<br />
There's something in the water at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/">Nissan</a>. Has to be. There's no other explanation for a company that produces vehicles like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/murano+crosscab/">Murano CrossCabriolet</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/juke/">Juke</a> as well as the undeniably bonkers <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/gtr/">GT-R</a>. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/">Infiniti</a> hasn't escaped whatever's lurking in the well, either. The company's recent shift from a comfortable and logical naming structure to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/17/infiniti-queues-up-questionable-q-and-qx-naming-scheme/">slurry of Q-based monikers</a> is the most recent example of insanity lurking in the luxury automaker's halls, but it certainly isn't the first. Take, for example, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/02/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50-awd/">FX50</a>.<br />
<br />
With its 390-horsepower V8 engine and a rear-bias all-wheel-drive platform, the mid-sized SUV is more sports car than family hatchback, and while a V8 in this segment is entirely ludicrous, it's also the engine option we preferred over the less-throaty 3.5-liter V6. Like nearly every other off-tilt offering from Nissan, the FX50 simply made sense in a too-much-whiskey kind of way. But Infiniti has just offered up the best argument yet against that muscle-bound bruiser in the form of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/08/2013-infiniti-ex-fx-get-3-7l-v6-g25-discontinued/">FX37</a>. Powered by the automaker's new 3.7-liter V6 and backed by a recognizably aggressive exterior, the machine is doing a good job of stealing its older brother's spotlight.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/04/2013-infiniti-fx37-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2013 Infiniti FX37</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/04/2013-infiniti-fx37-review/">2013 Infiniti FX37</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 Mar 2013 11:57:00 EST. <br />
Oh boy, this is about to get confusing with a capital Q.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/">Infiniti</a> has just announced a brand-new scheme that calls for completely new model names across its entire lineup of vehicles. Making things even more difficult will be the fact that all coupes, convertible and sedans will get a Q prefix while all crossovers and SUVs will be prefixed with QX.<br />
<br />
Further muddying the waters, previous engine displacement monikers will be replaced by a double-digit number "representing hierarchy within the range." Put less simply, the slot in the lineup currently held by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/g37+sedan/">G Sedan</a> will be called Q50 while the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/g37+coupe/">G Coupe</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/g37+convertible/">Convertible</a> will be called Q60. Q70 will replace the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/m/">M Sedan</a> at the top of the automaker's lineup of cars.<br />
<br />
On the truck side, the range-topping <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/qx/">QX</a> is now the QX80. Sitting below is the QX70, which was formerly the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">FX</a>, then the QX60 that used to be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/jx/">JX</a> and finally the QX50, which was but is no longer the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/ex/">EX</a>. Qonfused yet?<br />
<br />
Getting back to the G... excuse us, Q50, this is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/28/infiniti-confirms-all-new-sports-sedan-will-debut-in-detroit/">new sedan</a> that Infiniti had previously announced would be debuting at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/detroit-auto-show/">2013 Detroit Auto Show</a>. Best we can tell, this is a replacement for the old G Sedan, and it will sit below the currently available G Coupe and G Convertible, which will be renamed Q60.<br />
<br />
The Q50 will be the first model from Infiniti to fall into the new Q-based naming convention, with the rest of the automaker's lineup falling into place as 2014 models are announced. Infiniti said on a conference call that this move was necessary as the brand branches out beyond the United States.<br />
<br />
"This strategic change reflects Infiniti's desire for clarity and cohesiveness," says the press release, which you can read <a href="/2012/12/17/infiniti-queues-up-questionable-q-and-qx-naming-scheme/#continued">below</a>. Hopefully, that will clear everything up for you...<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/17/infiniti-queues-up-questionable-q-and-qx-naming-scheme/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti queues up questionable Q and QX naming scheme</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/17/infiniti-queues-up-questionable-q-and-qx-naming-scheme/">Infiniti queues up questionable Q and QX naming scheme</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 19:00:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a> has served up a rash of photos of its limited-run <a href="http://autoblog.search.aol.com/search?q=Vettel+Infiniti+FX&amp;s_it=header_form">FX Vettel Edition</a>. The $155,000 hyper crossover offers buyers a full 414 horsepower and a 5.6-second run to 60 mph. The grunt is also good enough to scoot the hunkered-down CUV to a top speed of 186 mph. As we've heard, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sebastian vettel">Sebastian Vettel</a> lent a hand in setting up the vehicle's suspension, and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/formula one">Formula One</a> racer's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/red bull">Red Bull</a> team helped pen the carbon fiber body kit. Those bits include a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear wing.<br />
<br />
If you want one - and happen to have more cash than sense - you better get on the horn with your local Infiniti dealer - provided you keep a residence in one of the car's markets. The manufacturer is only planning to build 150 examples, with 50 examples earmarked for the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe, respectively... if you want one in North America, you're going to have to get a bit creative.<br />

<br />
Most of the noise over the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/infiniti+fx+sebastian+vettel+version/">Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version</a> has centered around <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/11/infiniti-prices-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-at-155k/">its &euro;120,000 ($155,000 U.S.) price</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/03/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-sounds-insane/">its exhaust noise</a>. <em>Evo</em> <em>Magazine</em> editor Harry Metcalfe quiets things down with a soup-to-nuts look at where the extra money has been spent on this Vettel-fied <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/">Infiniti</a> crossover (in the UK it costs &pound;105,600 on-the-road, nearly doubling the price of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">FX50</a> it is bred from).<br />
<br />
There's lot of detail: the aero mods were guided by Vettel's desire for his tribute FX to hit 300 kilometers per hour, the carbon fiber is manufactured by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/brabus">Brabus</a>, the additional rear spoiler adds &pound;4,800 ($7,650) to the already hefty &pound;100,800 base price ($168k!), each alloy is 4.6 kilograms lighter than a standard wheel but hides standard brakes, and so on. All of that is followed by a question: "Can I say it's &pound;50,000 better?" You'll find the $80,000 answer in the video <a href="/2012/10/23/evo-finds-the-measure-of-infinitis-limited-edition-fx-ve/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/23/evo-finds-the-measure-of-infinitis-limited-edition-fx-ve/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em><i>Evo</i> finds the measure of Infiniti's limited-edition FX Vettel Version</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/23/evo-finds-the-measure-of-infinitis-limited-edition-fx-ve/"><i>Evo</i> finds the measure of Infiniti's limited-edition FX Vettel Version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 23 Oct 2012 15:00:00 EST. <br />
According to Motoring.com.au, <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a> will slowly be killing off its naturally aspirated V8 powerplants. The report comes after the Australian site spoke with Johan de Nysschen, Infiniti's global president, who stated that eight-cylinder engines are not in the product plans for any new vehicles currently on the drawing board.<br />
<br />
"I am afraid (U.S.) CAFE regulations and emission regulations around the world make the development of V8s as part of a new family of engines almost impossible," reiterated Andy Palmer, executive vice president for <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a>. That said, Palmer later told the Australian site that having a V8 in its lineup does not dictate overall performance. "F1 has gone V6 for example. You can get the performance out of a V6 or an I4 and you can get the fuel consumption out of it." Moving forward, Infiniti will likely switch to boosted four- and six-cylinder powertrains that will offer comparable V8 performance with better overall fuel economy.<br />
<br />
This certainly isn't a new trend in the automotive world. Many automakers are ditching V8 engines for more efficient V6 powerplants. <a href="http://autoblog.com/audi">Audi</a>, for example, has replaced the vast majority of its 4.2-liter V8 engines with 3.0-liter supercharged V6 units in just the last couple of years. And on a larger scale, <a href="http://autoblog.com/ford">Ford</a> is enjoying lots of success with its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood of its once V8-only <a href="http://autoblog.com/ford/f-150">F-150</a> pickup.<br />
<br />
Here in the United States, Infiniti uses a 5.0-liter V8 under the hood of the <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/fx">FX50</a> and employs a larger 5.6-liter V8 in the <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/m">M56</a> sedan and <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/qx">QX56</a> SUV. The report does not say if these V8-killing plans will also affect the Nissan lineup, which currently utilizes eight-cylinder engines in the <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/armada">Armada</a> SUV, <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/titan">Titan</a> pickup and <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/nv">NV</a> commercial van.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/05/infiniti-moving-away-from-v8-power/">Infiniti moving away from V8 power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 05 Sep 2012 08:44:00 EST. <br />
Two gents at this past weekend's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/goodwood/">Goodwood Festival of Speed</a> in the UK got the chance to sit in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/infiniti+fx+sebastian+vettel+edition/">Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version</a>, and not only did they start it up, but they recorded its sound. The 414-horsepower crossover surprises not only with its sky-high asking price of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/11/infiniti-prices-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-at-155k/">&euro;120,000</a> (circa $155k USD), but also with a remarkably exciting soundtrack. Pushing the button adjacent to the ashtray triggers a Mr. Hyde routine on the exhaust note, turning the rich baritone burble from intimidation to deepest fear.<br />
<br />
Only <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/10/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-approved-for-production-ma/">200 of the pearl white special edition</a> FXs will be made, and with most of them likely headed for the Middle East, things are about to get even louder in the desert. <a href="/2012/07/03/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-sounds-insane/#continued">Scroll down</a> for a listen.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/03/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-sounds-insane/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version sounds insane</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/03/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-sounds-insane/">Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version sounds insane</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 03 Jul 2012 19:28:00 EST. <br />
Shouldn't this have happened by now? For 2013, both the <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/ex">Infiniti EX</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/fx">FX</a> crossovers will be powered by the automaker's 325-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, replacing the 3.5-liter V6. Naturally, the official nomenclature has been changed to EX37 and FX37 for the new model year.<br />
<br />
We have to wonder, though: Why add the 3.7-liter unit to the EX and FX for 2013 but launch the all-new <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/jx">JX</a> with the old 3.5-liter engine? Engine plant capacity issues?<br />
<br />
Regardless, the larger engine means there will be 28 more horsepower on tap in the EX and 22 more ponies available in the FX. For those seeking even more crossover thrills, the V8-powered FX50 will still be offered, packing 390 hp.<br />
<br />
The 2013 FX gets a couple other bits of freshening-up in the form of some new paint colors, including a Limited Edition model painted in Moonlight White. Moving Object Detection has been added to the FX's brilliant Around-View Monitor system, as well. The updated FX goes on sale in July with the 2013 EX following in August.<br />
<br />
In other news, <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a> has announced that it will no longer offer the entry-level <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/g25">G25</a> sedan - powered by a 2.5-liter V6 and able to achieve up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway - leaving only the <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/g37">G37</a> and IPL G to fill out the range. The short-lived G25 will still remain on sale through December of this year. For the full list of 2013 model year changes, <a href="/2012/06/08/2013-infiniti-ex-fx-get-3-7l-v6-g25-discontinued/#continued">scroll down</a> to read Infiniti's press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/08/2013-infiniti-ex-fx-get-3-7l-v6-g25-discontinued/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2013 Infiniti EX, FX get 3.7L V6, G25 discontinued</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/08/2013-infiniti-ex-fx-get-3-7l-v6-g25-discontinued/">2013 Infiniti EX, FX get 3.7L V6, G25 discontinued</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 17:52:00 EST. <br />
When it comes to supercars, the sky is the proverbial limit. You can literally spend millions. And with vehicles like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/rolls-royce/phantom">Rolls-Royce Phantom</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bentley/mulsanne/">Bentley Mulsanne</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/maybach/">Maybach</a>, you can spend hundreds of thousands on a top-of-the-line luxury sedan, too. But when it comes to SUVs, prices seldom if ever breach the $100K mark fetched by the likes of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/09/land-rover-to-unveil-range-rover-autobiography-ultimate-edition/">Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayenne/">Porsche Cayenne Turbo</a>.<br />
<br />
There are a handful of automakers aiming to break that barrier though. Like the upcoming SUVs from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lamborghini">Lamborghini</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bentley">Bentley</a>, the on-again, off-again <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/d12">Spyker D12</a>, and this, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">Infiniti</a> FX Sebastian Vettel Version.<br />
<br />
Based on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">Infiniti FX50 S</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/fx,vettel/">Vettel edition</a> has had the output from its 5.0-liter V8 upped to from 390 horsepower to 414 for a 5.6-second sprint to 60 and a 186 mph top speed. The suspension is said to have been set up by the reigning two-time world champion himself, with the carbon fiber aero kit developed by his <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/red+bull">Red Bull Racing</a> team. The only change we've heard of from the concept car pictured above to the production version will be a more conventional pearl white paint job instead of the matte white of the show car.<br />
<br />
Only 200 examples will be produced, with 50 earmarked for continental Europe, and most of the rest likely heading to the Middle East. The price for such a high-end performance crossover? 120,000 euros, or about $155,000 in American greenbacks (if it were actually offered here). Of course if that still seems too slow and too cheap, you could always order a custom <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/juke-r/">Juke-R</a> from Infiniti's parent company <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a> and smoke some supercars in the process.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/11/infiniti-prices-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-at-155k/">Infiniti prices Sebastian Vettel edition FX at $155K</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 17:59:00 EST. <br />
It's a funny thing, being rich and famous. You can afford anything you want, but everything comes to you for free. Just ask <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/vettel">Sebastian Vettel</a>, who - as reigning <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/f1">Formula One</a> World Champion two years running now and brand ambassador for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a> - can get any luxed-up Datsun he wants. Which may not be quite as exciting as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/alonso">Fernando Alonso</a> having his run of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ferrari">Ferrari</a> motor pool or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/hamilton">Lewis Hamilton</a> getting his hands on the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/mp4-12c">McLaren MP4-12C</a>, but it's not without its perks, to be sure. Like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/13/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-frankfurt-2011/">Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version</a>.<br />
<br />
Unveiled as a concept vehicle at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> back in September, the Vetteled <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx">FX</a> packs a 5.0-liter V8 good for 414 horsepower and an estimated 5.6-second sprint to 62 mph, along with carbon fiber aero bits aplenty, reduced weight and a lowered suspension.<br />
<br />
Back in October, we received <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/10/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-approved-for-production-ma/">confirmation</a> that Infiniti was, indeed, planning on offering the special edition performance crossover - based, as it is, on the FX50S Premium model - in limited quantities, and the company has now officially announced its availability.<br />
<br />
Only 200 examples will be made at an as-yet undisclosed but assuredly lofty price, with orders being taken now for delivery next year. But before you go racing down to the local Infiniti dealership, know that the model will only be offering in Europe and the Middle East. Which is just as well, because we can't imagine many American buyers ponying up the kind of cash Infiniti will be asking for the privilege just because it's named after some kid from Germany, no matter how many grands prix he's won. Official announcement <a href="/2012/03/14/infiniti-opens-order-book-on-fx-sebastian-vettel-version/#continued">after the jump</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/14/infiniti-opens-order-book-on-fx-sebastian-vettel-version/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti opens order book on FX Sebastian Vettel Version</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/14/infiniti-opens-order-book-on-fx-sebastian-vettel-version/">Infiniti opens order book on FX Sebastian Vettel Version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 14 Mar 2012 17:28:00 EST. <br />
<div>
	<a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a> is recalling just over 14,700 vehicles from the 2011 and 2012 model years over faulty bolts in the engine. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "bolts that connect the engine oil cooler and the engine oil filter to the engine in these vehicles may have been manufactured to below specification strength."<br />
	<br />
	Affected Nissan vehicles include the 2011-12 <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/pathfinder">Pathfinder</a>, 2011-12 <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/xterra">Xterra</a>, 2012 <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/nv">NV</a> and 2012 <a href="http://autoblog.com/nissan/frontier">Frontier</a>. Additionally, the 2011 <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/fx">Infiniti FX</a> and 2012 <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/m">Infiniti M</a> are being recalled for this issue.<br />
	<br />
	The NHTSA report states that if there is an engine oil leak, pressure would drop and the engine could possibly seize. Bad news all around.<br />
	<br />
	The recall is expected to kick off in mid-January, and Nissan dealers will replace the connector bolts free of charge. To read the full NHTSA report, <a href="/2011/12/24/nissan-initiates-multi-vehicle-recall-over-faulty-bolts/#continued">follow the jump</a>.</div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/24/nissan-initiates-multi-vehicle-recall-over-faulty-bolts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nissan initiates multi-vehicle recall over faulty bolts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/24/nissan-initiates-multi-vehicle-recall-over-faulty-bolts/">Nissan initiates multi-vehicle recall over faulty bolts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 24 Dec 2011 17:02:00 EST. <br />
Lots of automakers participate in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/f1">F1</a> racing: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ferrari">Ferrari</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lotus">Lotus</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/renault">Renault</a>... and not so long ago, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/honda">Honda</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota">Toyota</a> were in on the action, too. But while these companies have made their own cars, engines and even fielded their own teams in the top motorsport discipline, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a>'s participation has been a little more removed.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a>'s luxury division, as you may well be aware, is one of the top sponsors of the current reigning championship team <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/red+bull">Red Bull</a>. But without actually building or powering Sebastian Vettel's car, Infiniti has been on a constant search for ways to capitalize on its partnership. That could soon amount to a Red Bull-tweaked line of performance models, and has already lead to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/10/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-approved-for-production-ma/">Sebastian Vettel edition FX</a>. But for those who can't stretch that far, Infiniti has announced - drum-roll, please - a vinyl wrap.<br />
<br />
The celebratory livery is available at an as-yet undisclosed price to current <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx">FX</a> owners, but for the "lucky" ten customers who buy an FX now in the UK and win a tour of the factory, it could be theirs for free. We'd be glad to take the tour, but we'll leave the wrap off our luxury crossovers, thank you very much.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/09/infiniti-and-red-bull-wrap-up-the-f1-season-fx-in-style/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti and Red Bull wrap up the F1 season, FX in style</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/09/infiniti-and-red-bull-wrap-up-the-f1-season-fx-in-style/">Infiniti and Red Bull wrap up the F1 season, FX in style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 09 Nov 2011 18:39:00 EST. <br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">Infiniti FX</a> has always been a bit of a wild child in the premium crossover segment. It has a polarizing exterior style, and it's capable of reaching illegal speeds rather quickly. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/">Infiniti</a> has partnered up with Formula One racer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/vettel">Sebastian Vettel</a> to make it even more extreme, and the result is the (rather blandly named) Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version-frankfurt-2011/#photo-4440408/"><img alt="Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version" class="rightborder" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/09/lead2-infiniti-fx-sebastian-vettel-version.jpg" style="margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px; margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; float: right; width: 250px; height: 166px; " /></a>What does it take for a F1 star to apply his moniker to anything other than a sports car? <strike>Money</strike>. Serious upgrades to the overall performance of the vehicle. Vettel worked with Infiniti engineers to transform the FX50 into a lower, sleeker machine. The vehicle sits 20 millimeters lower and wears aero bits that help improve its coefficient of drag by 30 percent.<br />
<br />
Those changes are rather welcome because Vettel wanted the FX bearing his name to hit a pretty impressive speed target. The goal was 300 kilometers per hour (186 miles per hour), and this Infiniti FX Vettel Version is capable of achieving that mark.<br />
<br />
Engineers were able to squeeze an additional 30 horsepower out of the 5.0-liter V8, bringing total output up to 414 horses. This was done by way of a new exhaust system and reflashing the the engine's computer. Still, 186 mph is a tough task for a bulky vehicle like the FX, so taller gearing was called for. Despite this, Infiniti says the Vettel FX manages to run from 0-60 miles per hour quicker than the standard FX50.<br />
<br />
For the moment, the special FX is considered a concept car, though the rumormill has suggested for some time that Infiniti is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/27/red-bull-and-infiniti-keen-on-road-car-collaboration/">working toward premium performance models with their cohorts from Red Bull Racing</a>, so a production derivative isn't entirely out of the question. <br />
With 390 horsepower on tap and a five-second 0-60 time, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">Infiniti FX50</a> crossover really doesn't need much in the performance department. But merely "fast enough" isn't a term you'd commonly associate with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/vettel">Sebastian Vettel</a>.<br />
<br />
The defending <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/f1">Formula One</a> World Champion drives an FX in his down time, serves as Infiniti's brand ambassador and has lent a capable hand or two in the development of the latest concept car coming out of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a> luxury division. The special Vettel edition has been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/13/infiniti-to-roll-out-special-sebastian-vettel-edition-w-video/">anticipated</a> for a few months now, but will <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/25/infiniti-to-unveil-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-in-frankfurt/">finally</a> be unveiled at the rapidly approaching <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> next month.<br />
<br />
Just what specifications the special edition will encompass remains to be seen, as the short press release after the jump is conspicuously light on details, but from the solitary image released so far, we can tell it looks like one very mean performance crossover, with new aero bits, lighting, wheels and badging among the changes.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/28/infiniti-previews-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-ahead-of-frankfurt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti previews Sebastian Vettel edition FX ahead of Frankfurt debut</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/28/infiniti-previews-sebastian-vettel-edition-fx-ahead-of-frankfurt/">Infiniti previews Sebastian Vettel edition FX ahead of Frankfurt debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 15:07:00 EST. <br />
Come October of 2011, there will be a revised version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/fx/">Infiniti FX</a> available at your local dealership. For 2012, Nissan's luxury arm has bestowed its flashy crossover with a distinctive new front fascia that draws clear influence from Infiniti's latest design language first seen on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-consider-the-show-stopped-infiniti-rolls-out-its-e/">Infiniti Essence Concept</a> from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show/">2009 Geneva Motor Show</a>.<br />
<br />
In addition to the new face, <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti">Infiniti</a> has also added a new 20-inch wheel design and a slightly redone instrument cluster. Finally, a new FX35 Limited Edition model hits the ground wearing an exclusive Iridium Blue exterior color along with blacked-out exterior finishes and unique 21-inch wheels. If you want one, we suggest you act fast; Infiniti plans only 550 LE models for North America.<br />
<br />
Infiniti has left the powertrain alone for 2012, not that any changes were really all that necessary. The FX35 continues on with 303-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 while the FX50 boasts 390 horses from its 5.0-liter V8. Either engine comes mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox that gets optional paddle shifters on the FX50. All-wheel drive is optional on the FX35 (base models get rear-wheel drive) and standard on the FX50.<br />
<br />
Pricing doesn't change much for 2012, with the base FX35 starting at $43,450 and the FX50 at $59,350. The new Limited Edition FX35, which comes only with all-wheel drive, will go for $51,550. According to the automaker, "popularly equipped" models wear the same price tags in 2012 as they did in 2011.<br />

Bulgarian customizer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/vilner">Vilner</a> is known for creating luxurious passenger cabins. We've seen its crew apply their talents to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/02/vilner-out-goodwoods-the-mini-goodwood-with-custom-cooper/">Mini Cooper</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/28/bulgarian-tuner-vilner-kicks-the-chevy-camaros-interior-up-a-fe/">Chevy Camaro</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/20/vilner-updates-smart-fortwo-w-videos/">Smart ForTwo</a>, and now they've turned their attention to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/infiniti">Infiniti</a>'s crossovers.<br />

<br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/FX">2011 Infiniti FX</a> has just received that rare gift of a price cut, with $2,600 coming off the FX50's MSRP and $1,250 in savings for the FX35. Looking at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/by-the-numbers/">Infiniti's numbers</a> for 2010, the division has been outperforming 2009 by anywhere from 10 to nearly 50 percent since February 2010, but the picture comes into focus when you separate the FX from the herd. <br />
<br />
Despite good divisional performance, the swoopy FX is off 12.4 percent calendar year to date, according to the Nissan North America sales report for August 2010. It's not like 2009 was a banner year, of course, so to help spur FX sales, Infiniti has lowered the base MSRPs on its FX models to $41,600 for the rear-wheel-drive FX35, $43,050 for the FX35 with all-wheel drive and $56,400 for the V8-powered FX50. To sweeten the pot, Infiniti is also throwing in a standard power liftgate, too. We'll know soon enough whether the pricing gambit has worked. Official press release posted <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/22/infiniti-fx-models-see-price-drop-for-2011/">after the jump</a>.<em> Hat tip to Zach!</em><br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2009 Infiniti FX50 AWD</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Infiniti's FX first arrived on the scene in 2003. At the time, it looked like something transported into the showroom directly from the auto show concept car turntable. While other manufacturers were delivering boxy SUVs, Infiniti presented the world a futuristic four-door crossover that was available in vibrant "Liquid Copper" paint. Even in bland white, the FX turned every head on the road - and rightfully so. Now in its second-generation, the all-new 2009 FX arrives with a more powerful 5.0-liter V8, a new 7-speed automatic and a mouthful of electronic driving aids that are sure to stump even the team at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/">Engadget</a>. Is the all-new FX a worthy replacement to its predecessor? Has it turned soft to please the luxury crowd? What's up with all of that gadgetry? Find out after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50">Review: 2009 Infiniti FX50</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/fx50_1280_09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/fx50_1280_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/fx50_1280_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/fx50_1280_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-infiniti-fx50/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/fx50_1280_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><em><small>All photos Copyright (C)2008 Michael C. No, I've never been a fan of SUVs. And no, the recent spate of crossovers has left me scratching my head (give me a wagon or give me death!). But what I am interested in are vehicles that can exhilarate on-road while holding their own off-road. It's that same allure that had me pressed against the window of a Subaru dealership at midnight to fantasize about the 2.5RS ten years ago; the reason that I can't wait to drive the BMW X6; and the reason I find myself in San Diego, once again, to spend some quality time with the 2009 Infiniti FX.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx">First Drive: Infiniti FX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_fd_infiniti_fx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_fd_infiniti_fx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_fd_infiniti_fx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/04_fd_infiniti_fx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/05_fd_infiniti_fx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong>All photos (C) 2008 Damon Lavrinc / Weblogs, Inc.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/23/first-drive-2009-infiniti-fx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2009 Infiniti FX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/23/first-drive-2009-infiniti-fx/">First Drive: 2009 Infiniti FX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 00:57:00 EST. The detailed headlamp shot above was posted on an Infiniti FX forum (who knew?), and pretty much confirms the styling tweaks the new fascia will get, particularly when you imagine it on the set of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/09/spy-shots-2009-infiniti-fx/">spy</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/21/spy-shots-infiniti-fx55-think-angry/">shots</a> we've seen already. The only thing that's left to the imagination is the reconfigured rear end, which will likely sport some new tail lamps and a redesigned bumper. We'd be remiss not to point out that it's not in the dealer's best interest to include his name and contact information in his forum signature, lest Infiniti's corporate communications folks come calling.<br /><br />Thanks for the tip Jonathan.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2009-infiniti-fx">Spy Shots: 2009 Infiniti FX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2009-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/priddy09fx_feb08_autoblog1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2009-infiniti-fx/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/priddy09fx_feb08_autoblog2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.infinitifx.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18146">InfinitiFX.org</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/29/not-quite-official-infiniti-dealer-posts-fx-teaser-online/">Not quite official: Infiniti dealer posts FX teaser online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 20:17:00 EST.
