Mercedes-Benz has several test fleets of fuel cell powered buses running in European cities. Ballard Power Systems is the supplier of the fuel cells in these vehicles and they have just been awarded a contract to provide service to the buses in the fleets of Hamburg, Germany and Amsterdam, the Netherlands for 2007 and 2008.
The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Metropolitan Company of Urban Transport of São Paulo (EMTU) have embarked on a hydrogen fuel cell bus test and development program. The project is being done in partnership with the United Nations Development Program and will be operating in São Paulo.
