The denouement is happening in geologic time, but it looks like historic British carmaker Bristol will be resurrected with a hybrid supercar courtesy of another historic former British carmaker, Frazer-Nash. Four years ago, Frazer-Nash, now a Swiss company specializing in hybrid and alternative drivetrains, showed off the Namir concept designed by Guigiaro. After Bristol went bankrupt in 2011 it was bought by Kamkorp Autokraft, the parent company of Frazer-Nash with plans to make a hybrid supercar.

The Namir was a series hybrid with a total of 362 horsepower, a 0-to-62 mile per hour acceleration time of 3.5 seconds, a claimed top speed of 187 mph and 91.7 US miles per gallon. The new Bristol could employ the same powertrain, according to a report in Autocar, "a compact rotary" that powers the lithium ion battery pack, that powering the electric motor driving all four wheels.

We might not be close to the finish - Frazer-Nash hasn't said when this new Bristol will arrive, nor who will design it. It has said, though, that it has "firm intention" to build the car.
Bristol hybrid supercar waiting in the wings originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 09 Feb 2013 09:00:00 EST.
Bristol has been in the news lately due to due a serious 'down' (bankruptcy) and a last-minute 'up' (saved by Frazer-Nash). Now, the British automaker is once again making headlines, and this time, it's because of a decidedly ambitious plan. Britain's Evo magazine has gotten wind of the company's plan to create a supercar that boasts a twofold method of attack. First, it will hit 200 miles per hour and second, it will achieve 100 miles per gallon.

Bristol is prepping the range-extended exotic sports car for the 2013 automotive marketplace. Since Frazer-Nash loves fiddling with range-extended powertrains, it makes sense for them to plunk such a gas-electric heart into a shapely handbuilt Bristol missile. For now, however, this remains firmly planted in the rumormill category. It's not that we don't want it to happen, we just need a bit more to go on.
Bristol working on 200-mph electric supercar? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:59:00 EST.
Ill-fated Bristol Cars has reportedly been rescued from the perils of administration by an unlikely savior. Kamkorp Autokraft, a Swiss company that's part of the Frazer-Nash empire, officially bought the British automaker after it was forced to make 22 members of its 25 person staff redundant last month. According to PistonHeads, Kamkorp Autokraft says it intends to blend the Bristol Cars tradition of building beautiful vehicles with the alternative-energy knowledge amassed by Frazer-Nash. The news likely means that the world will be treated to an all-new electric sports car sometime in the near future.

Bristol Cars has its roots in aircraft manufacturing, but converted to building bespoke vehicles for the well-to-do of the UK shortly after World War II. The company hit financial dire straits last year, and in March of 2011, Tom MacLennan and Trevor Binyon were named joint administrators. Remarkably, sales and service have carried on throughout the whole ordeal, and that doesn't look to stop anytime soon.

William Chia, the director of operations for Frazer-Nash, said that his company is committed to continuing to service the brand's cars.
