Ford is recalling a total of 203,494 vehicles in North America in two campaigns. One of them covers an issue with the instruments in the Escape and Transit. The other is a small labeling issue for the Transit.
Ford will cut its normal summer break in half at 16 factories in order to keep up with demand for the company's trucks, SUV, and crossovers. Workers will get one week off in late June, rather than the usual two.
NHTSA is taking a second look at the May 2014 power steering recall that affected 740,000 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner crossovers after a complaint was filed by an owner who says Ford's fix wasn't sufficient the first time around.
Ford is adding two more recalls to its yearly tally, making it onto the 2014 ledger just under the wire. One involves moving the 2015 Lincoln MKC's push-button ignition start switch to a new location because people are pressing it by mistake. The other concerns the 2015 MKC and 2014 Ford Escape for a faulty fuel pump that could cause the crossovers to stall.
Recalls! 2014 will be forever remembered as the year that automakers went recall crazy, with millions and millions of vehicles adding up to crush previous recall records well before the end of the year. Adding to that tally is Ford, which announced a call-back for 163,000 vehicles.
Ford is announcing six separate recalls for a variety of issues affecting a dozen models and a total of 100,610 vehicles in North America. However, according to Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker, "None of them have caused accidents or injuries." Half of them cover fewer than 1,000 cars.
Poor Escape. Ever since its launch in 2012, Ford's small CUV has been the subject of many, many, many recalls. And today, The Detroit News is reporting that Ford is adding two more recalls to the 2013-14 model year Escape's permanent record, one of them also involves the C-Max hybrid hatchback.
