<br />
Yesterday, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang/">Ford Mustang</a> turned 49 years old, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> didn't miss the opportunity to celebrate the one millionth version of the Mustang rolling off the assembly line at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/flat+rock+assembly/">Flat Rock Assembly</a> plant. Production of the Mustang at Flat Rock coincided with the fifth-generation design launching in 2004, and the one millionth car was the car shown above, a 2014 GT convertible painted in Ruby Red.<br />
<br />
In total, Ford has sold more than 8.5 million Mustangs since the original car went on sale, but some of the key milestones over the car's nine years at Flat Rock include the Shelby GT-H, Bullitt, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang+boss+302/">Boss 302</a> and, of course, the 662-horsepower <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/shelby+gt500/">Shelby GT500</a>. <a href="/2013/04/18/ford-celebrates-1-millionth-mustang-built-at-flat-rock/#continued">Scroll down</a> for a press release celebrating Flat Rock's milestone Mustang.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/18/ford-celebrates-1-millionth-mustang-built-at-flat-rock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ford celebrates 1 millionth Mustang built at Flat Rock</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/18/ford-celebrates-1-millionth-mustang-built-at-flat-rock/">Ford celebrates 1 millionth Mustang built at Flat Rock</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 18 Apr 2013 10:45:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> has announced it will invest $773 million in its facilities across Southeast Michigan. The funds will go toward new equipment and bolstering manufacturing capacity at six plants. The plan is part of a larger move to invest a total of $6.2 billion in the US by 2015. All told, the latest round of upgrades should help create 2,350 new hourly jobs while allowing Ford to keep a further 3,240 hourly jobs in place. The automaker plans to add 12,000 hourly positions at its facilities across the country by 2015.<br />
<br />
The automaker's Michigan and Flat Rock Assembly Plants will receive $59.4 million and $161 million, respectively, with Flat Rock receiving new machinery and equipment necessary to produce the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/fusion">2013 Ford Fusion</a>. The company's Dearborn Stamping plant will receive the largest investment, with $305 million heading toward plant modernization and new press lines, though the Sterling Axle Plant, Van Dyke and Livonia Transmission facilities will all receive cash for various upgrades. You can take a look at the <a href="/2012/12/27/ford-investing-big-in-michigan-manufacturing-adding-up-to-2-350/#continued">brief press release below</a> for more information.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/ford-investing-big-in-michigan-manufacturing-adding-up-to-2-350/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ford investing big in Michigan manufacturing, adding up to 2,350 new jobs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/ford-investing-big-in-michigan-manufacturing-adding-up-to-2-350/">Ford investing big in Michigan manufacturing, adding up to 2,350 new jobs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Dec 2012 10:44:00 EST. <br />
Having just <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/17/ford-signs-on-as-official-sponsor-of-formula-drift-for-2013-w-v/#continued">announced its official sponsorship</a> of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/formula+drift/">Formula Drift</a> series, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> (via Ford Racing) released a video with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/vaughn+gittin+jr./">Vaughn Gittin, Jr.</a> and his new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/mustang+rtr/">2013 Mustang RTR</a> drift car. The video, titled "2nd Shift Drift," shows him drifting around the property of Ford's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/flat%20rock%20assembly/">Flat Rock Assembly</a> plant where all <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang/">Mustangs</a> are currently built.<br />
<br />
Although not quite as technical as a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ken%20block/">Ken Block</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Gymkhana/">Gymkhana</a>, Gittin's video delivers plenty of entertainment between slalom <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/drifting/">drifting</a> a pack of driving Mustangs and a little game we like to call kiss the Mustang (at the 2:21 mark). This all happens around the facility's track that is normally used to perform spot checks of Mustangs rolling off the assembly line.<br />
<br />
We expect to see more videos like this from Ford next year as it promotes Formula Drift, but until then, check out how much fun Gittin had visiting the home of the Ford Mustang in the video <a href="/2012/10/18/vaughn-gitten-jr-given-free-reign-to-drift-around-flat-rock-ass/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/18/vaughn-gitten-jr-given-free-reign-to-drift-around-flat-rock-ass/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Vaughn Gittin Jr. given free rein to drift around Flat Rock Assembly Plant</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/18/vaughn-gitten-jr-given-free-reign-to-drift-around-flat-rock-ass/">Vaughn Gittin Jr. given free rein to drift around Flat Rock Assembly Plant</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 18 Oct 2012 16:28:00 EST. <br />
With the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mazda/mazda6/">2014 Mazda6</a> being built in Japan, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> is filling the production capacity at its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/flat+rock/">Flat Rock Assembly</a> plant (previously known as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/auto+alliance+international/">AutoAlliance International</a>) with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/fusion/">2013 Ford Fusion</a>. The new Fusion goes on sale this fall, and while early versions of the car will continue to be made in Hermosillo, Mexico, production will switch to the Flat Rock, Mich. plant early next year.<br />
<br />
Currently, that plant only builds the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang/">Ford Mustang</a>, and to prepare for the higher volume that the Fusion will bring, Ford has announced it will be adding 1,200 new jobs to the plant in addition to a $555 million upgrade to the paint and body shops. Not only will this upgrade allow Flat Rock to be a more flexible plant, it will also allow it to be more environmentally friendly with a 3-Wet paint process that creates fewer pollutants and lowers overall paint costs.<br />
<br />
The plant is still owned 50/50 between Ford and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mazda/">Mazda</a>, but it will be managed 100 percent by Ford Motor Company going forward. Once Fusion production begins, Flat Rock Assembly will employ a total of 2,900 workers.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/10/ford-to-add-1-200-workers-at-flat-rock-plant/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ford to add 1,200 workers at Flat Rock plant</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/10/ford-to-add-1-200-workers-at-flat-rock-plant/">Ford to add 1,200 workers at Flat Rock plant</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2012 17:35:00 EST.
