Ford finally unveiled the U.S. version of its B-Segment Fiesta yesterday at the LA Auto Show, and thanks to some clever marketing, the Blue Oval's newest small car is already well-known to prospective buyers. Ford's ingenious "Fiesta Movement" marketing initiative, which put 100 Euro-spec subcompacts in the hands of socially advanced "agents," resulted in over six million YouTube views, 740,000 Flickr views and 3.7 million Twitter impressions. All that traffic has apparently resulted in a 60-percent vehicle recognition score in Ford's survey findings - a number that would be good for a vehicle that has already been on the market a few years.

The first Fiesta Movement was created to get the Fiesta in front of the car-buying public while engaging in customer-driven dialog. Connie Fontaine, Ford brand content and alliances manager, says that wave two will focus on "driving unparalleled consideration." In other words, Ford wants customers to be excited to buy a new Fiesta. Given the fact that Ford generated 80,000 "hand-raisers" with Fiesta Movement number one, another group of Fiesta agents probably isn't a bad idea.

Ford is looking now for 20 teams of agents to participate in getting the word out about its new small car. Interested parties can apply via video on fiestamovement.com between now and January 31. Round two begins in mid-February. Winning contestants will need to be "socially vibrant" and "in-tune with the latest happenings in their neighborhood." Winners will be chosen based on public reaction to their video presentations... though it probably wouldn't hurt to look young and Millenialish. Hit the jump to check out Ford's official press release.

2011 Ford Fiesta by Ford Custom Accessories - Click above for high-res image gallery

While introducing the folks at the LA Auto Show to the American-market 2011 Ford Fiesta, Ford decided to go a step further. They didn't just show the production sedan and hatchback, they also showed off the possibilities the platform presents as well. They had four customized Fiestas on display, done up by companies like H&R, 3dCarbon, FSWerks, and Steeda, as well as Ford's in-house Racing and Custom Accessories team. And just for good measure, they also brought along that wicked Kenny Brack X-Games Rally Fiesta as well.

There's a full press release after the jump, but here is a brief summary of the four featured vehicles:

Black Fiesta:

This car was put together by Ford Racing and Steeda Autosports. It features Steeda's cold air intake, a Borla/Ford Racing Performance cat-back exhaust system, Steeda/Ford Racing suspension upgrades, Ford Racing multi-spoke Euro wheels and Brembo anchors.

Blue Fiesta:

The blue car was built by H&R Special Springs. Naturally, it received some suspension tuning with an H&R Street Performance monotube coil-over kit and a set of spiffy 18-inch OZ SuperTurismo GT wheels. It's also the beneficiary of some Euro reverse-engineering via "Sticky Jewell custom graphics, custom Euro hood vents, stealthy blacked-out headlamps and a Ford Custom Accessories upper rear hatch spoiler."

White Fiesta:

The white Fiesta (above) features Ford Custom Accessories, so it ought to be the easiest model the Average Joe to copy. Nearly every styling element can be purchased from the Ford Custom Accessories, Ford Licensed Accessories or Ford Racing Performance Parts catalogs. And get used to those graphics, because Ford has taken this opportunity to add a whole new line of them for the Fiesta. You can see the whole collection at fordfiestagraphics.com.

Red Fiesta:

Last, but certainly not least, is the red Fiesta by 3dCarbon and FSWerks. It's the only one of the four that has some serious rejiggering underhood. It features an FSWerks Stage 2 intercooled turbo kit and 2.25-inch exhaust system. It also sports a 3dCarbon body kit with an "aggressive front air dam, aerodynamic side skirts and rear lower accent trim."

We'd probably mix and match among these mods, perhaps the H&R suspension, the Brembos from the Steeda car, the OZ wheels and that FSWerks turbo setup. Or maybe we'd just take Brack's car. Check out the gallery by clicking below and more details in the press release after the jump.

The Fiesta Movement, Ford's campaign to introduce the little global Fiesta car to the U.S. market, kicked off at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year and will end this week during the LA Auto Show with, what else, a party. Oh, and the official unveiling of the 2011 North American version. We got a sneak peek of the Fiesta earlier today that it now seems was incorrect, based on these new pictures found buried on Ford's website.

The U.S.-style three-bar grille is thankfully not present in these official pics, though the hatch and sedan do wear different grilles (we like the hatch's version better, for what it's worth). The rest of the car remains as good-looking as the Euro-spec version ever did, and the interior will be a big draw for this car - along with solid MPG numbers, of course. For those of you who hoped Ford would bring the Fiesta over from Europe pretty much intact, it appears your wishes have been granted. We'll have all the details from LA right soon.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid - Click above for high-res image gallery

Ford is diving into the burgeoning social media world head first. Based on the success of its Fiesta Movement, the Blue Oval has decided to launch a new program called Fusion 41 - so named because of the Fusion Hybrid's 41 mile-per-gallon EPA estimate in the city and the fact that Ford is looking for 41 participants to take part in its new game.

A total of eight Fusion or Fusion Hybrid owners will be chosen from all applicants received based on their social media presence, and those drivers will each choose four friends or family members to join their team. Ford will then hand out assignments that must be completed with photo and video proof that is to be uploaded to the driver's Facebook profile. Ford is calling the program an "automotive relay race," whatever that means.

So, what's the incentive to participate? For starters, each team will be given a new Fusion for the challenge, and the winning team captain will have their own Fusion or Fusion Hybrid paid off by Ford. Not bad, eh? Plus, participating team members from the winning group will earn free gas for one full year. Want to know more?
Ford knows better than most that the way into an American car buyer's heart is through motor racing, so the latest step in Ford's North American "Fiesta Movement" is the deployment of the compact hatchback which we've driven and enjoyed on several occasions on America's most popular rally circuits.

Following its entry in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Ford will be fielding a team of rally-prepped Fiestas in the upcoming X Games, the 15th running of the famous stunt competition and the first time Ford will participate. Piloting a trio of Fiestas prepared by the same Swedish MSE outfit that created Marcus Gronholm's rallycross car will be a star-studded line-up comprised of drift champion Tanner Foust, ten-time X Games medalist Brian Deegan and former Indy champion Kenny Brack. With that much talent behind the wheel, we'll look forward to the Fiesta Movement getting into motion at the games running in Los Angeles from July 30 to August 2. Details are available in the press release below the fold and a pair of sketches of the X Games Fiestas can be found in the gallery below.

Gallery: 2009 X Games Ford Fiestas

Continue reading Ford attacking X Games with star-studded trio of Fiesta rally cars

Ford attacking X Games with star-studded trio of Fiesta rally cars originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:58:00 EST. Not long ago, he reported his Fiesta stolen and Ford was meant to be tracking it on a joyride near Port Chester, NY. Turns out that Ford wasn't tracking the right car, and for some reason, Ford can't track his car. That's most inconvenient, because Bronstein's Fiesta is sitting in a New York impound lot. And to add insult to injury, the impound lot says the car isn't there.

As Bronstein tell it on Zoomdoggle.com, at first, he suspected the car was towed, but calls to every local NYPD lot got the same response: "Car's not here." After staking out the hatch's last known parking spot, a meter reader told him that cars will get towed and then entered in the system with the wrong license plate. The tow lot then says they don't have it, because it doesn't show in the computer, and they won't let you in to check. Although he doesn't mention it, it sounds like they also don't check their lot based on any other description.

So, pulling a couple of near-Mission Impossible moves, Jake managed to get a picture of the most likely lot the car was towed to, and you can see the results above: a hot magenta and pink spotted Fiesta whiling away the hours and racking up storage fees. The best part? Jake called the lot again and said he had a picture of his car on their lot, and you know what he was told? That they don't have it, and that it's impossible to see inside the lot.

Jake's now taking ideas for how to get his car back. If the NYPD won't even admit having it, and Ford can't use the tracking device to prove it's there, then the idea we like best so far comes from one the commenters on Jake's site, who suggests:

Just throw a giant party outside the impound lot. Make up signs like "Let our Fiesta go", "Free the Fiesta" and such. Start up chants like "What do we want? My Fiesta. When do we want it? at some point in the near future, if that's convenient..."

So, Autobloggers... any recommendations?

[Source: Zoomdoggle]
FOLLOW UP: Fiesta Movement car towed by The Man, not stolen after all? originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 26 May 2009 15:27:00 EST. No, really. Police en route now. I almost couldve predicted this somehow.
Jake's Hot Magenta Fiesta (above is the model we drove in NYC during our First Drive) is one of 100 Euro-spec models that Ford has loaned to selected "agents" across the U.S. We don't have many details, but we have confirmed with Ford spokesman Alan Hall that the car has gone missing.

Scott Monty, head of social media at Ford, has also confirmed the crime's occurrence on his Twitter page. Not only does Ford know one of its Fiestas was swiped, it's also tracking the hot property. All of the cars given to Fiesta Movement agents apparently have real-time GPS tracking devices that allow Ford to keep tabs on their whereabouts. Thus, Ford knows exactly where the stolen Fiesta is right now, which is convenient, because the local police apparently can't even locate the vehicle in their crime databases because it isn't an official U.S. offering.

As this is written, we can tell you the Fiesta is heading south on I-95 near Port Chester, <strike>CT</strike> NY. Keep your eyes peeled if you're in the area... and maybe we'll have this wayward Fiesta back home before the street lights come on in Brooklyn.

[Source: Ford, Twitter]
BREAKING: Fiesta Movement Agent reports car stolen, Ford tracking it live originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 15 May 2009 15:53:00 EST.
Ford is pulling out all of the marketing stops with its Ford Fiesta. The Blue Oval has already given 100 lucky Fiesta Movement contest winners a free six month lease of a Euro spec Fiesta, including free gas and some interesting Ford-sponsored excursions. That's not nearly enough customer interaction for the Dearborn automaker, however, as evidenced by its desire to log 100,000 test drives before the North American spec Fiesta hits the market.

Ford is traveling to 100 cities in total, with five teams of five Euro spec Fiestas permeating all parts of the USA. Ford will also offer free wireless Internet at the drive sites, giving test drivers the ability to blog about their Fiesta experience in real-time. And Ford won't simply show up in big cities like LA and Chicago, as some rural locations are being planned. Ford also plans to show up unannounced at high traffic areas like amusement parks and college campuses.

Hit the jump to read the official Ford press release.

Gallery: Ford Fiesta in NYC

[Source: Ford]
Continue reading Ford to offer 100,000 test drives as part of Fiesta Movement

Ford to offer 100,000 test drives as part of Fiesta Movement originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 14 May 2009 19:30:00 EST.
Those Fiesta Movement "agents" who delivered winning videos to Ford? Envy them, because the cars they're being handed the keys to for the next six months are no joke. Yesterday morning, Ford tossed us a set of those keys (well, it was a key fob, actually) to a reactor-leak green Ford Fiesta. We only had an hour to play with the car, but by the end of it, we were wishing we had busted out the camcorder for the contest.

Gallery: Ford Fiesta in NYC

Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex Núñez / Weblogs, Inc.
Continue reading First Drive: Ford Fiesta for an hour in the Big Apple

First Drive: Ford Fiesta for an hour in the Big Apple originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 11:58:00 EST.
The Fiesta Movement winners are officially being notified, and we have news of a bloggy nature. Our compadre, Davey G. Johnson, the former Jalop and strong aficionado of brown cars, is among the group who will be rolling in a Ford Fiesta for six months. The bad news, according to Davey: his Fiesta won't be brown. Oh well, can't win 'em all. But win he did, nonetheless. Congratulations! We'll have to send someone from Autoblog California Command for a closer look once he takes possession since it appears our own submission from AutoblogGreen lifer Sebastian Blanco wasn't among the favored. Davey's winning Fiesta Movement video, "Baby Bets on a Brown Fiesta," is embedded after the jump for your enjoyment.

[Source: Davey G.]
Continue reading Winning Bet: Davey G.
While visiting our favorite weekly car gathering in SoCal today, we were stopped in our tracks when we spotted "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Ray Romano, happily answering questions about the shiny new Ford Fiesta parked beside him. We thought it odd for Ford to enlist such a well-known stand-up comic to pitch the product at such a meager gathering, but figured even A-list talent might be hurting for a little extra scratch in this economic climate. We approached to get a better look and realized it was actually Fiesta Brand Manager Sam De La Garza a dead ringer for the actor who portrayed everybody's favorite Italian-American non-mobster on television.

Sam brought the Fiesta to Cars & Coffee to show it off and elicit some reactions. He also wanted to remind folks that the Fiesta Movement is still underway, although he declined comment on sister site AB Green's entry. Without giving too much away, he did mention that the response to the contest has been overwhelming. He told us that the entries have been beyond imagination, mentioning, for example, that Juston Laipply, creator of the über-viral "Evolution of Dance", was among the entrants. While the Fiesta's success in America seems to be a foregone conclusion in some camps, Sam also brought along a Ford Ka to see whether the Fiesta might have big enough coattails to carry its kid brother as well. We can hardly wait to get our hands on one.
So, applications for Ford's Fiesta Movement closed last night, and AutoblogGreen got its entry in just under the buzzer. We're nothing if not slackers waiting for a deadline. With a few Lego props (our models didn't go into this much detail, though), a camera and iMovie, we thought we'd make some promises to Ford on how we'd treat their car should they give it to us for half a year as part of the Fiesta promotion. We think we covered everything: pirates vs. ninja, paparazzi, Yoda. Yup, that's about it. Check out the video after the jump and then watch more video entries for the competition over on YouTube.

Gallery: Chicago 2009: Fiesta Movement 01

Continue reading VIDEO: AutoblogGreen tries out for the Fiesta Movement

VIDEO: AutoblogGreen tries out for the Fiesta Movement originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 17:58:00 EST.
The Fiesta Movement is on. Drivers angling to be a part of Ford's promotional campaign, which will place 100 people in Fiestas for an early six-month trial, are lining up. To even be considered for the endeavor, you need to send Ford a video explaining why you deserve a Fiesta. Quality of the videos submitted thus far is varied, to say the least, but we can now come out and say that we have someone to root for: Davey G. Johnson, erstwhile O.G. Jalop and a very good friend of Autoblog, is officially in the fight.

His video, "Baby Bets on a Brown Fiesta," is posted for your enjoyment after the jump. We're confident it's the only Fiesta Movement video that manages to successfully incorporate a 1970s brown motif; the world's greatest fictional detectives; a Mopar appearance; the sounds of diminutive, unlikely German rock star, Udo Dirkschneider; and a real, in-person endorsement by Bob Mould (of Hüsker Dü -- old-time Jalopnik readers will understand how significant this is).

If it sounds crazy, it's because it kind of is. Is it crazy enough to be a winner? We'll find out soon enough.
Ford will be launching its Fiesta subcompact in the U.S. market as a 2010 model and is looking to build up some hype ahead of the official debut. To that end, the Blue Oval is now accepting applications from regular people to get the car a bit early... for free, including gas, insurance and concierge service for the six month duration of the program. Good deal. Of course, there are a few stipulations: users must be web savvy enough to make a short video explaining why they'd be the right person to get the keys and must agree to accept "secret assignments" from "Ford Mission Control," whatever that may mean.

Want in? Click here for the full details, and do it quick - only 100 people will be chosen from what's sure to be lots of applicants. Oh, and tell 'em Autoblog sent you.

Gallery: Ford Fiesta Sedan LIVE

[Source: Fiesta Movement]
Ford giving away 100 Fiestas for six months originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 07:29:00 EST.
