<br />Sport Activity Coupe. Progressive Activity Sedan. It seems like BMW gets to come up with all the new high-minded vehicle segments, but we're going to submit one of our own: the Sport-Futility Vehicle. And this will be its purest application: the rumored Ferrari SUV. We call it a Sport-Futility Vehicle because it just <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/11/from-the-prancing-horses-mouth-no-truck-no-v6-from-ferrari/">won't happen</a>. Ferrari's pledged it won't even make a sedan, much less a truck. Now we know what you're thinking. Porsche, Lamborghini, Spyker... they're all sportscar companies that have dabbled in sport-utes, and in some cases have even toyed with the idea of a sedan after their SUV had already established itself. But Ferrari has never offered (not in serial production, anyway) anything aside from two-door sportscars, and that's not about to change. But still, that won't stop people from spreading <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/12/rendered-speculation-ferrari-suv-thats-not-going-to-happen/">rumors</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/07/ferrari-suv-reportedly-has-codename-f151-concept-coming-in-2010/">rendering</a> their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/25/rumormill-run-amok-ferrari-f599-fs-fuoristrada-sport-ute/">speculation</a>. And this is the latest <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/02/04/a-ferrari-suv/">such effort</a>.<br /><br />Rendered by Edmundo Canno of Mexican car site <em>Automovil</em>, the concept drawings seem to blend elements of the Ferrari California with a Mazda CX-9 in a reasonably convincing package, except that the idea will never get off the drawing board. Power could theoretically be provided by the California's 450hp 4.3-liter V8 or the Fiorano's 612hp 6.0-liter V12, driving to all four wheels. Noting that Porsche collaborated with Volkswagen on the Cayenne/Touareg project, our friends south of the border surmise that Ferrari could share the costs of the SUV's development with sister brands Alfa Romeo and Maserati, or even with Fiat's new ally Chrysler, which seems about as likely as... well... Ferrari making an SUV, leaving this as nothing more than an exercise in the sport of futility. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-ferrari-sport-futility-vehicle">The Ferrari Sport-Futility Vehicle</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-ferrari-sport-futility-vehicle/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/ferrari-suv-rendering-big-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-ferrari-sport-futility-vehicle/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/ferrari-suv-rendering-big-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.terra.com.mx/articulo.aspx?articuloid=774703&amp;paginaid=1">Automovil</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/rendered-pointless-the-ferrari-sport-futility-vehicle/">Rendered Pointless: the Ferrari Sport-Futility Vehicle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 10:58:00 EST. Enzo Ferrari pulled out of the deal at the last moment, angering Ford II so badly that he went on to fund development of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_GT40#History">legendary GT40</a> that went on to take many motorsports victories.<br /><br />A few years later, Mr. Ferrari pissed off yet another powerfully rich American businessman with the outcome being the automotive abomination you see before you. Bill Harrah of Harrah's Casino fame asked Ferrari to construct for him an Italian 4X4 wearing the prancing horse badge. While no one thought to archive the response from Ferrari, we imagine it involved the words 'hell' and 'no'. In Italian, of course.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/800239/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_logo_051108.jpg" /></a>Undeterred and with more money than taste, Harrah created the Jerrari. Its ass-end is a 1970 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Wagoneer">Jeep Wagoneer</a>, the nose is from a 1969 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_365">Ferrari 365GT</a>. On the day of its birth, this one-of-a-kind offroading Ferrari sported V12 power, but now all four wheels are turned by a 350 V8. <br /><br />The <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jerrari-Harrahs-Custom-Jeep-with-Ferrari-365-GT_W0QQitemZ130221205611QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130221205611">eBay auction</a> for this abomination includes numerous pieces of <a href="http://www.leftcoastclassics.com/1969_Jerrari/articles/index.html">documentation</a>, like a 1971 review of the car by "Road &amp; Track." Another is a letter from a previous seller in 1984 that indicates there could be more than one of these hideous creations out there. Maybe <span style="font-style: italic;">that's</span> what's been starting all these <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/07/ferrari-suv-reportedly-has-codename-f151-concept-coming-in-2010/">rumors</a>.<br /><br />Watch a walk-around video of the Jerrari after the jump, and check out an extensive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/">gallery of photos</a> below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari">Ferrai + Jeep = Jerrari</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_051108_---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_051108_---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_051108_---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_051108_---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrai-jeep-jerrari/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/jerrari_051108_---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jerrari-Harrahs-Custom-Jeep-with-Ferrari-365-GT_W0QQitemZ130221205611QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130221205611">eBay</a>, <a href="http://www.leftcoastclassics.com/1969_Jerrari/">Left Coast Classics </a>via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/05/jerrari-suv-ferrari-365-gt-jeep.html">CarScoop</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/12/ebay-find-of-the-day-the-jerrari/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>eBay Find of the Day: The Jerrari</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/12/ebay-find-of-the-day-the-jerrari/">eBay Find of the Day: The Jerrari</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 May 2008 08:57:00 EST. The Brit pub supposedly has the inside scoop on what could be the biggest brand dilution in the history of automobiledom, and it currently goes by the codename F151.<br /><br />The five-passenger 'ute was rendered by <em>AE</em>'s in-house photochoppers, taking plenty of cues from the 612 Scaglietti, from which the Ferrari SUV might be based. Power is likely to be supplied by one of Maranello's V8s or V12s, but the real problem isn't motivation, it's how that grunt will find its way to the ground. The two options available include either modifying the Scag's platform with a high-tech traction control setup and beefing up the running gear to allow it to make the <strike>regular</strike> rare trips off road or to source an all-wheel-drive system from Mercedes to limit the cost to Ferrari.<br /><br />Whether this is strictly misinformed prognostication or based in reality remains to be seen, but according to <em>AutoExpress</em>, the F151 will be revealed to the world in 2010, with sales beginning the following year. Prices should easily crest the &pound;100,000 mark.<br /><br />[Source: AutoExpress]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/07/ferrari-suv-reportedly-has-codename-f151-concept-coming-in-2010/">Ferrari SUV reportedly has codename F151, concept coming in 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 07:33:00 EST. Nevertheless, Ferrari fans scoff at the idea, with some here at Autoblog exclaiming they will draw their last breath before Maranello builds an SUV. <br />
<p> </p>
Yet the rumors persist, recently culminating in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/25/rumormill-run-amok-ferrari-f599-fs-fuoristrada-sport-ute/">post</a> by our friends over at World Car Fans that contained an incredible amount of specific conjecture about a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/25/rumormill-run-amok-ferrari-f599-fs-fuoristrada-sport-ute/">Ferrari F599 FS 599 Fuoristrada</a> concept being readied for the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The rendering that accompanied their post was a bit <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9071025.002/mini1/speculation-ferrari-fs-599-fuoristrada-suv">8th grade-esque in execution</a>, so we thought we'd share this one cribbed from what appears to be a Romanian site. For all we know the linked article could be telling us that the Ferrari SUV has been approved for production and Michael Schumacher will personally autograph the passenger-side airbag of each one, but we don't speak Romanian and neither do any of our trusted web-based translaters. If you do, let us know what the scoop is in the comments.<br /><br />Regardless, this rendering at least does justice to what a Ferrari SUV might look like, with sinewy curves, styling cues that evoke past prancing horses and what appears to be a wheel/tire combo that could easily take an apex or two. Should such a vehicle ever be made? Hell no! But there's no harm in drawing one, we suppose.<br /><br />Thanks for the tip, Justin!<br /><br />[Source: automarket.ro]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/12/rendered-speculation-ferrari-suv-thats-not-going-to-happen/">Rendered Speculation: Ferrari SUV that's not going to happen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2007 16:29:00 EST.
