eBay Find of the Day: Ferrari + NSX = Ferracura 360 NSX

Click above for gallery of this Frankencar

Up for grabs and with 56 bids registered bids, we have eBay item number: 270287784055. The lucky top bidder gets a Ferrari 360 Modena and an Acura NSX, but only needs one parking spot. The product description explains the impossible, while almost making this thing sound appealing. "The best parts of both cars were used to build an exclusive new vehicle. The appearance comes from the Ferrari 360 Modena, the quality and reliability from [a] Honda NSX... this is definitely no comparison to the Toyota MR2, Peugeot 306, or Pontiac Fierro [sic] conversions..."

So you get a 94,000 km, 300 hp, Acura NSX with a custom body and interior that make it look something like a Ferrari 360. Lighter, more reliable, and cheaper to maintain than a Ferrari, presumably more lust-worthy than a stock-bodied NSX, and all for just EUR 25,500.

While the front and rear views might make you think it's a real Ferrari at first glance, that NSX greenhouse makes any other angle a dead giveaway. The builder didn't do a bad job, but it's just another project that has us scratching our heads and asking, "Why?" It's in Zurich, Switzerland if you're interested. Thanks for the tip, Emanuel!

Fool your friends with Hyundai-powered custom "Ferrari"

The lengths people will go to to turn a somewhat ordinary vehicle into something that pretends to be so much more always amazes us. Ferrari seems to be a favorite marque for many to emulate, in fact. Whether it's the simplest Scuderia shields on the fenders, or a full-on Fiero or MR2 rebody, it seems like a lot of folks really wish they had a prancing horse in their garage instead of a Hyundai.

Today's example comes via craiglist, and it's a bit different. What you see above is apparently a real Ferrari... body. It's genuine Maranello aluminum stretched around a custom frame, with some real Ferrari bits here and there, all powered by a Hyundai Tiburon V6. Done up in Ponzi Blue, this shark has 44,000 miles on the clock and looks halfway decent in the two pixelated pics provided. If this sounds like your kind of thing, the going price is "just" $37,500.

360 out of 406: Peugeot coupe begets Ferrari replica

Extreme 360 replica

What do the Ferrari 360 Modena and the Peugeot 406 have in common? Well, aside from the fact that both are Pininfarina designs and both have two doors, nothing. The 360 is one of the great sports cars of all time, and the 406 is an attractive, but otherwise ordinary 2+2 coupe.

Ordinary, that is, until Extreme Sportscars has their way with it. Extreme, you see, specializes in the creation and installation of conversion kits that allow you to turn a pedestrian Peugeot 406 Coupe into a shockingly realistic Ferrari 360 clone. Extreme, who also makes an F355 conversion kit for the MR2, chose the 406 Coupe because it is proportionally similar to the Ferrari and is available with decent V6 power. It also offers the added bonus of being a true 4-seater, so the poseurs who actually drive one of these creations have the option of carrying two backseat passengers or flipping the seats down for additional cargo capacity.

Extreme offers the parts a la carte, but if you were to select every possible conversion piece they make, your wallet would be £11,655 lighter. They recently sold a turnkey customer car (with what appears to be a mockup engine displayed under the rear glass) for £26,000. That seems like an awful lot for a used, rebodied Peugeot.

There's no arguing the quality of the conversion kits. The cars look quite amazing. Still, the whole thing leaves us cold. While the Extreme Sportscar kit gives a 406 the look of a 360, in the end it's still just a Peugeot -- a V6, front-wheel-drive, 4-seat Peugeot. It may be wearing Ferrari badges, but it sure isn't worthy of them.
