Click above to watch video after the jump

No pandas were hurt during the making of this photograph. People either. Actually, the truth behind this image is even more bizarre. This is just one example of the Bosozoku craze in Japan. The pic (and the accompanying video posted after the jump) was swiped from a forum that specializes in this type of thing. It's not exactly a new trend, but one worth mentioning from time-to-time so we remember to be on the alert for this type of zany motorist if the Bosozoku craze ever crosses the pond.

Characterized by massively extended lip spoilers, double-wide fender flares and pipe-organ exhaust systems, Bosozoku cars look insane when you come across one parked on the streets of Japan. Well, imagine what it's like being engulfed in a swarm of them while driving down the highway. That's exactly what you'll experience in the video clip we've posted. Follow the jump to share the insanity.

[Source: Retro Rides Forum via Japanese Nostalgic Car]
Continue reading VIDEO: Japan's Bosozoku roll deep, phat, loud and weird

VIDEO: Japan's Bosozoku roll deep, phat, loud and weird originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 16:28:00 EST. This has got to be the craziest, most hilarious video we've seen in a long time. It has all the elements of a Godzilla flick: crazy-looking monsters, lots of noises that sound like alien creatures (at one point we thought we heard dueling light sabers), and a lot of very excited people.

The common theme of many of the cars on display in this video is a highly-pronounced exhaust fetish. Some of the pipes coming out of these mods are up to 10 feet long, none of them look very practical, and the car in the image above isn't even the craziest in the battle for big-pipe supremacy. There's also a character in there whose foreground dancing for much of the six-odd minutes of video makes for a second, very entertaining side-show. We can't hear the tunes he's cutting a rug to, though -- just the tinny whine of blown engines with displacements under two liters.

Sometimes, Japanese and Western cultures clash, and the mods in this video are like a plaid blazer and checkered pants. Yikes! We implore you to follow the jump to watch this one, but if you're at work, you may want to get a conference room to muffle the laughter.

[Source: YouTube]
Continue reading VIDEO: Japanese Bososoku parade lap [WARNING: Laughter-induced weeping may occur]

VIDEO: Japanese Bososoku parade lap [WARNING: Laughter-induced weeping may occur] originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 May 2007 17:02:00 EST.
