Regardless of what it will be called, the successor to the Ferrari Enzo will be unveiled next week in Geneva, and like many other automakers, Ferrari will apparently be giving us a slow strip tease of the all-new hybrid supercar.

We've already seen a couple shadowy images of the car's face and rump, but the new shots - provided courtesy of the Ferrari Facebook page - are starting to show us some detail.

The only problem is that we don't exactly know what details we're looking at. In the shot above, that curvy, red real estate could belong to any number of body panels, while the second new teaser shows the Ferrari prancing horse logo with no indication of where on the car it's located.

Fortunately, there are just four days left until this new supercar makes its global debut, and Ferrari has promised more "hints" of the car on its website and official Facebook page.
Continue reading Ferrari begins releasing official teasers for new supercar

Ferrari begins releasing official teasers for new supercar originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 17:58:00 EST.
If you're planning to pick up the newest hypercar from Ferrari, you may need to do more than save your pennies. Automotive News Europe reports the Enzo successor will cost more than 1 million euros, or $1.34 million at current conversion rates. That's before taxes, too. All told, Ferrari will build just 499 examples of the tentatively named F150 according to reports. The Italian automaker has neither confirmed nor denied the price or production figures, though Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has said the machine is already sold out worldwide.

We do know the hybrid will serve up more than 900 horsepower thanks to a new naturally aspirated V12 direct-injection engine and an electric motor. The automaker says its HY-KERS hybrid system has cut fuel consumption by some 40 percent. Of course, adding an electric motor to the party has added some 330 pounds to the driveline, a fact Ferrari has offset by using carbon fiber for the machine's chassis. Word has it the F150 will have a curb weight similar to the Enzo at a shave over 3,000 pounds.
Ferrari's Enzo successor to cost 1M euros? originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 15:45:00 EST.
Ferrari has announced the automaker will debut the company's "most powerful HyperFerrari [sic]" at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The news came courtesy of Instagram, where the Italian automaker posted a familiar-looking rendering with a quick note. Details are still remarkably scarce, though Ferrari says the successor to the Enzo throne will be able to "turn into a corner" as quick as a Formula One car thanks in part to the fact that the road-going machine will feature as much downforce as an F1 competitor. From what we've heard so far, the Enzo replacement will boast over 800 horsepower from the combination of a V12 engine and a HY-KERS system.

We've already heard some interesting tidbits about the new machine, including the fact that each model will come with a driver's seat tailor made for the buyer. Ferrari says we can also expect to see a quicker 0-120 mph sprint than the old Enzo with 40 percent fewer emissions. Stay tuned for live photos from the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

UPDATE: After some looking into it, Ferrari does not appear to have an official Instagram account, or at least doesn't list one alongside its other official social accounts. We're of the mind now that what appeared on this Instragram is not officially from the Horse's mouth.
Ferrari F150 Enzo successor is Geneva bound [UPDATE] originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 10 Feb 2013 15:02:00 EST.
We've brought you no end of spy shots and rumors surrounding the new Ferrari hypercar, often referred to as F150, that is destined to succeed the Enzo as the Italian maker's top offering. Now, one new and highly speculative rendering has come to light whose origins are interesting, even if the final product is still pretty much a stab in the dark.

The rendering you see here was created by an organization called goldRush Rally, which published the image on its Facebook page. The claim is that this rendering was based on a "snapshot of a plaque with a sketch of the new supercar." We certainly won't speculate as to what kind of "presentation" a luxury-rally throwing company like gRR would be invited to - to say nothing of why there was a plaque bearing the image of a supercar that has been so well cordoned off from public eyes - but we'll roll with it because we love the internet.

Even if the story is completely true (big if), we're fairly certain the details of the rendering miss in some places relative to the real deal car. The front wheel wells, for instance, seem comically thin around the top, and hold wheels that are way out of proportion with the spy shots and videos we've seen so far. More promising, however, is the detailing of the door and sill of the F150 - portions of the car that have consistently been covered in spy shots.

For what it's worth we're virtually certain that the source photograph for this rendering was taken in front of the Maranello Palace hotel just down the street from the Ferrari factory, and likely started as one of the many F150 test mules that have been photographed there. One small win for authenticity, at least.
Are you the Enzo-succeeding Ferrari F150? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Feb 2013 11:00:00 EST.
From recent spy shots to leaked information, we're starting to get a good idea about just how amazing the unnamed successor to the Ferrari Enzo will be, but now we've finally gotten to see some video of the car testing at the Fiorano Circuit in Italy. This video not only gives us an earful of the car's screaming engine and rumbling exhaust note, it also affords us a view of the car without its fish-face camouflage that it has been caught wearing recently.

The video shows the new supercar testing around the 12-turn, 1.877-mile track with an Enzo, and it is interesting to hear the differences between the 651-horsepower Enzo and its reportedly 950-hp hybrid successor. Scroll down to watch the newest Ferrari going through some track testing, and be sure to turn your speakers up.
Continue reading Ferrari F150 Enzo-successor takes some loud laps at Fiorano

Ferrari F150 Enzo-successor takes some loud laps at Fiorano originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 16:01:00 EST.
At a private showing in Maranello, a group of lucky souls got to sneak a peek at the upcoming successor to the Ferrari Enzo, which has been referred to as both the F70 and F150 (not that F-150). While we still don't get any name confirmation or a definitive idea (aside from spy shots) as to what the newest Ferrari supercar will look like, one of the attendees did manage to pass along some vital performance information about the car as well as production numbers that are said to be limited to just 499 units.

The report on Auto-Blog.com.mx confirms that the Enzo successor will utilize an 800-horsepower V12 paired with a hybrid KERS good for another 150 hp. The engine's peak power kicks in at a screaming 9,200 rpm, while peak torque (not divulged) will be available at just 1,000 rpm. That kind of power could be great in just about anything, but the report also says that this new Ferrari model will have a dry weight of just 2,799 pounds (about the same as the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S twins and just slightly more than a Mazda MX-5 Miata). Rumored speed times include a top speed of 229 miles per hour, and the ability to run from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds; doubling that speed takes an extra second.

We've already seen the car's carbon fiber chassis and now we're just waiting to see the production car in real life, but Ferrari has not announced when the car will be introduced.
Possible Ferrari F70/F150 specs emerge from private showings originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 01 Feb 2013 10:44:00 EST.
Although we're still not really sure what Ferrari plans to call its long-awaited successor to the Enzo, we're certain that this is going to be one mean car. We've heard that it will be called the F150, F150 Italia and even the F70 over the last year and a half. Regardless of its name, this guppy-faced prototype you see above is Ferrari's answer to the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder with a rumored 900-horsepower hybrid powertrain.

Since the last time we saw this car testing, the only difference appears to be that the exhaust outlets now may be closer to production form, with dual pipes on each side sitting up higher in the fascia. Aside from that, these shots are much clearer and at a better angle allowing us to get an idea of what the final product might look like. We do see some of this car's details such as the headlight placement and shape similar to the 458 Italia and the massive brakes with drilled carbon ceramic rotors.

No word as to when we might see the production version of the car, but Ferrari did tease a couple photos of it last month and is much further along than spy shots we saw less than a year ago.
Ferrari Enzo successor caught testing again originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 09:16:00 EST.
On its web site, Ferrari has divulged a little more info about the supercar that will succeed the Ferrari Enzo. The Ferrari magazine reported that everything the Scuderia has learned in Formula One has gone into its soon-to-be-revealed animal, and this latest disclosure shows just how much that's true. We don't know its length or width, but Ferrari says one of the targets for the car was "a reduction in height and wheelbase to match that of the 458 Italia."

Rory Byrne, the Ferrari F1 designer that's been involved in 11 world championships for the team, has spent three years contributing to chassis development. That chassis will be laid up by hand in the company's F1 composites department, each chassis composed of different kinds of carbon fiber and cured in an autoclave, F1 monocoque-style. That's part of where the lighter weight and vastly heightened torsional and beam rigidity versus the Enzo comes from. Just behind the tub - and behind the driver's back - will be the batteries and fuel tank, again, just as on an F1 car.

The cockpit will be personalized to the driver in a way that is rare among road cars, with each seat made-to-measure for the driver and then set in a fixed position in the cabin. The steering wheel and pedal box will move to accommodate pilots. What's more, we're told that "the occupant's feet are at the same level as the driving position." That, and the angle of the seatback, will provide "an extraordinarily racy feeling."

An evolution of the 740-horsepower, 6.3-litre V12 currently found in the F12 Berlinetta will work with the latest HY-KERS and a double-clutch transmission. Ferrari says the powertrain makes the car quicker from 0-to-120 miles per hour, reduces emissions by 40 percent, and improves features like torque vectoring and brake force distribution.

Still no word on what it will be called, but specs like these, by any name, would be just as sweet.
Ferrari teases more specs on its Enzo successor originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Dec 2012 12:58:00 EST.
You're looking at our best view yet of the upcoming successor to the Ferrari Enzo. Rumors kicking around the web insist the new reigning monarch of the Italian kingdom will carry the "F150" name when it bows, otherwise known as the Special Limited Series. Word has it Ferrari has focused all of its experience in Formula One to create the new model. According to the manufacturer's official online magazine, the new ultracar will boast a carbon fiber monocoque chassis built in "an almost handmade style" using four types of the composite. We aren't sure exactly what that means, but the design should keep weight to a minimum.

Power should come courtesy of an 800 horsepower V12 engine married to a HY-KERS system good for an additional 100 hp. Early estimates say the creation will tip the scales at under 3,000 pounds, which means the vehicle will be a performance marvel. Sounds like a party.
Ferrari officially teases successor to Enzo throne originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 14 Dec 2012 10:28:00 EST.
Contrary to earlier reports, Ferrari maintains that it will not be showing the F70 supercar successor to the Enzo at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January. In fact, our sources say the launch rollout plans for the hybrid 920-horsepower exotic have not been finalized.

One scenario would have a launch separate from major auto shows in order to maximize publicity. Another factor in the decision not to show the F70 in Detroit is a desire not to step on the launch at the show of the all-new Maserati Quattroporte. Both Maserati and Ferrari are owned by the Fiat group.
Ferrari F70 won't show up in Detroit after all originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 10:02:00 EST.
We expected the successor to the Ferrari Enzo, for now a model referred to as the F70, to be the showstopper of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Finally seeing the real car will be good news whenever it happens, but even better news is that Inside Line has just reported that the F70 will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

We have no idea what the gigundously powerful coupe will look like - the rendering above is the work of KGP Photography, whose spy shooters have shot quite a number of prototypes hidden under enormous amounts of camo. We do know it will have a carbon fiber chassis with a Formula One-style build developed by one of the key players in the F1 team - the chassis will be 20-percent lighter than the Enzo's, yet stiffer. Within it will be something like 900 horsepower unleashed from a mid-mounted V12 assisted by an evolution of the energy-regenerating HY-KERS unit. Weight for the whole car has been rumored to come in a snort-inducing 2,500 pounds.

Suddenly, January in Detroit isn't looking quite so bleak.
Ferrari Enzo successor F70 to be unveiled at 2013 Detroit Auto Show originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 12 Oct 2012 17:45:00 EST.
There are many reasons to get excited about the future of supercars right now. Between the development of the Acura NSX, the next-generation Nissan GT-R, the long line of lusty Lamborghini concepts and McLaren tinkerings, we may very well be on the doorstep of a golden age of exotic engineering. But few of those offerings send us licking our chops quite so quickly as the successor of the legendary Ferrari Enzo throne. Christened the F70 internally, the machine reportedly boasts a hybrid drivetrain brawny enough to bolt the Italian menace to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds.

Odds are there's a healthy V12 mounted midship, and if the whispers we hear happen to be true, the F70 will be able to saunter up to a top speed of 250 mph. Our spy photo friends have produced a pair of renderings for us based on their own surreptitiously snapped images that help cut through the awful body cladding we've seen attached to the test cars frolicking about Europe at the moment.

If the production car looks even remotely as attractive as these sketches, the world is about to become a much sexier place. With lots of 458 in the front and hints of F40 in that engine cover, there's plenty to get excited about here. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until the 2013 Geneva Motor Show before we see the real deal.
This is what the Ferrari F70 might really look like originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 05 Sep 2012 15:53:00 EST.
We're not genuinely concerned... yet. Though these latest spy photos show the latest version of Ferrari's next top-of-the-line machine out in the Italian public wearing embarrassingly ugly bodywork, we're still taking a wait-and-see attitude and holding out hope that the upcoming Prancing Horse hypercar is a stunner. If it ends up looking more like the F40 or F50 than the Enzo... well, that would be just fine by us, too.

Compared to the last set of Enzo-successor spy photos we saw, this latest iteration looks much more complete and somewhat more integrated as a while. The extra-wide gaping maw is still there, as are radical fender peaks, doors that open well into the roof and dual coolers atop the rear wheel arches. Note, too, the impossibly wide tires at the rearmost corners.

As much as we'd love to share hard details with you, we're all just going to have to wait until the 2013 Geneva Motor Show for that. Speculation, though, is always welcome, and the rumormill points to a hybrid V12 powerplant with enough ponies for a 2.5-second sprint to 60 and a 250-mile-per-hour top speed. Stay tuned.
Ferrari Enzo successor's homely visage spotted again originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 19:27:00 EST.
Imagine you just bought the fastest, most powerful road-legal Ferrari ever. Your F12 Berlinetta has 740 horses and does 0-62 mph in just over three seconds. You're on top of the world!

Enjoy your seat at the pinnacle of Maranello motoring while you can, because you'll soon be relegated to the slow lane. There's a bigger, badder Ferrari in the works. And if you already own a Berlinetta, chances are good you'll be invited sometime before the end of 2012 to a private showing of Ferrari's replacement for the legendary Enzo.

Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo tells Automotive News Europe that their next supercar will not be called Enzo, but will be worthy successor that packs a carbon fiber body and a big ol' V12.

"The F12 Berlinetta delivers 740 hp and today's Formula One cars have between 740 hp and 750 hp," Montezemolo said. "Thus we are offering F1 power in a road car."

We've heard the neo-Enzo have as much as 920 horsepower. Not too many other details were revealed in the interview except for...

"We want to surprise people not just in terms of price but also with the car itself," Montezemolo said. Which we take to mean the next ultimate Ferrari will be free. But probably not.

The general public will probably get its first glimpse of the Enzo replacement either at next January's Detroit Auto Show or the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next March. Oh, the anticipation!
Ferrari to show Enzo successor to potential buyers before end of year originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 14 Mar 2012 14:01:00 EST.
A year-and-a-half-ago we heard that the model to replace the Ferrari Enzo was peeking over the fence at the Bugatti Veyron for inspiration. Then we heard, nearly one year ago, that this Ferrari would also be a hybrid. Add those two ingredients to a 7.3-liter V12 and stir in Ferrari's talk of light weight, and the resulting supercar will be a 920-peak-horsepower celestial stallion that weighs just 2,500 pounds, according to a report in Automobile.

The V12 will be responsible for 800 of those horses, 100 more than the 599 replacement, the F620, that will use a 6.2-liter version of the same V12 and that we'll see at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. The supplemental 120 hp will be provided by a KERS hybrid setup.
The carbon fiber body is expected to hold largesse down to around 2,500 pounds, which - if all of these numbers come true - would mean a supercar that weighs 500 pounds less than 651-hp Enzo, and about the same as the 2,546-pound, track-only FXX, but that has about 100 more ponies.
