<br />You know you've always wanted to drive a four-hundred-horsepower BMW through city streets like a bat out of hell, and now the Bavarian automaker has the legal remedy. All you'll need to do is get certified as an ambulance driver and convince your local emergency response unit to invest in this X6 ambulance, which BMW is showcasing at the upcoming RETTmobil rescue vehicle show in Fulda, Germany. The ultimate <strike>driving machine</strike> question is, which will be more difficult? Considering on one hand that the certification process is takes longer than the ending of a Peter Jackson film, and on the other that ambulances tend to require a lot of space and that the X6 is among the least utile crossover vehicles on the market, we'd say it's about a draw.<br /><br />Following the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/12/setting-the-pace-bmw-x6-m-debuts-as-motogp-safety-car/">X6 M safety car</a> which BMW rolled out for MotoGP, in actuality this specially-equipped X6 xDrive50i, (complete with 407hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 and more lighting than Kevin Costner's corn field) is being presented as a first-responder vehicle, carrying a doctor or paramedic to the scene of an emergency before an ambulance can get there. Few details are available, but then again, there are few cities with the kind of budget to acquire one of these bad boys. Check it out in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-xdrive50i-ambulance/low/">BMW X6 xDrive50i Ambulance</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-xdrive50i-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw-x6-ambulance-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-xdrive50i-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw-x6-ambulance-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-xdrive50i-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw-x6-ambulance-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-xdrive50i-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw-x6-ambulance-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/13/unlikely-medical-wagon-bmw-presents-x6-ambulance-at-rescue-vehi/">Bizarre Medical Wagon: BMW presents X6 ambulance at rescue vehicle show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 May 2009 12:58:00 EST. <br />In a twist on the great circle of life, a motorist has his Porsche 911 searched during a traffic stop by Hoover, Alabama police, and they find 10 kilos of cocaine in two hidden compartments. The case traipses through the court system for over a year, the bad guy goes away, and the car is handed over to the police department. <br /><br />The police then take their new 911 to the paint shop, have it dressed in department colors, throw on a wing, light bar, and rear window lights. Voila. A car donated by a criminal now meant to deter - and perhaps catch - other criminals.<br /><br />Beyond the blue and silver paint job, the car's other decals read "Seized" and "911 Never Forget." The police chief said the car is planned for publicity rounds, to help kids understand what can happen to them if they go for fast money. But if you're an adult, you might want to scratch Hoover off of your "Place to get in a car chase" list...<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hoover-police-dept-porsche/low/">Hoover Police Dept. <br />Leave the Saint Bernards at home, honey, we've got something better. The Subaru Mountain Rescue Vehicle was made for the National Ski Patrol -- an organization we had never heard of until we saw this truck. On its tiptoes it has 14 inches of clearance, and the staid passenger car driving compartment is balanced by the diamond plate floor and steel walls in the rear. Its got more flashing lights than K-Mart, and a 9,500-pound winch in case you need to rescue snowcats. And apparently, when ski time is over, you can hop in the toboggan that's mounted on the roof. Or you can put injured people in it. Your choice. Have a look at the mighty mountain rescue ranger vehicle in the gallery of high-res photos below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/">SEMA 2008: Subaru Mountain Rescue Vehicle</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01scoob_mtn_resc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02scoob_mtn_resc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03scoob_mtn_resc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04scoob_mtn_resc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05scoob_mtn_resc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/sema-subaru-mountain-rescue-vehicle/">SEMA: Save us Subaru Mountain Rescue Vehicle!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 05 Nov 2008 14:57:00 EST. The interior from row two back was gutted and reconfigured to accept a stretcher, accommodate an emergency doctor, and store all the associated equipment, such as an EKG, defibrillator, etc. Four trucks have been ordered, and Porsche will place them at each of its plants and at the test track in Weissach. All the Cayenne running gear is unchanged, and performance and off-road capability are generally unaffected. Complete details can be found in the press release pasted after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Porsche]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-ambulance/low/">Porsche Cayenne Emergency Response Vehicle</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayambulance_hi001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayambulance_hi002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayambulance_hi003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-ambulance/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayambulance_hi004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/10/porsche-builds-cayenne-s-ambulancefor-emergency-personnel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche builds Cayenne S ambulance for its own emergency personnel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/10/porsche-builds-cayenne-s-ambulancefor-emergency-personnel/">Porsche builds Cayenne S ambulance for its own emergency personnel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 10 May 2007 16:27:00 EST. The details of this story make it a bit more understandable. As it turns out, Valerie Montgomery was fined $632 Canadian dollars for not slowing down while passing an emergency vehicle, in this case a police car that had pulled someone else over on the shoulder of the road. We were not aware of this law, which apparently is new in Calgary, that stipulates all vehicles must slow to 60 kph in their lane when passing a stopped emergency vehicle on a shoulder directly adjacent to that lane.<br /><br />Valerie eventually got the fine reduced to $115. She was quoted as saying, "What's an emergency vehicle, anyway?" Do you think it is obvious that a police car with its lights on is an emergency vehicle? Ambulances and firetrucks would be the other obvious vehicles that qualify.<br /><br />We personally hate it when cars don't slow down, stop at lights (even when green) and pull over for ambulances, fire trucks and police cars en route. We bet if their loved one were waiting for that ambulance, they would want everyone to pull over or else be fined $632 Canadian dollars.<br /><br />[Source: Calgary Pundit (warning: some bad language)]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/12/alberta-woman-fined-632cdn-for-driving-4kph-under-speed-limit/">Alberta woman fined $632 CDN for passing a cop too fast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Feb 2007 21:02:00 EST. As much fun as it
is to read about the man's eventual capture after two years of playing god in traffic, it's more fun to
watch this <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video/offbeat/2006/04/19/costello.traffic.light.kmgh/content.html">CNN video</a>
of townspeople pissed off that the guy got off virtually scott free. Hilarity also ensues watching the authorities
explain how after fielding two years of complaints about an unexplicably long red light at this particular intersection
they finally went to the tapes and noticed a reoccurring Ford Ranger pickup that never got caught... by the light,
that is. <br /><br />[Source: <a
href="http://www.cnn.com/video/offbeat/2006/04/19/costello.traffic.light.kmgh/content.html">CNN</a> via <a
href="http://www.autospies.com/article/index.asp?articleId=7107&amp;categoryId=23">AutoSpies</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/20/townsfolk-react-to-red-light-rigger-on-video/">Townsfolk react to red light rigger on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 20 Apr 2006 16:06:00 EST.
