Fourtitude, the internet experts on all things Audi, has compiled a list of facts and clues that seem to indicate that the electric car concept expected from Audi at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show will indeed be based on the most excellent R8 platform. For starters, the surprisingly detailed initial report from L'Automobile magazine in France went so far as to include the R8 ePerformance moniker, which goes right along with the German automaker's current naming convention.

We know that Audi is hard at work on a new city car that will be based on Volkswagen's NSF (new small family) chassis architecture that will underpin numerous vehicles, including one based on the familiar up! concept. There are three possible powertrain options that are currently being tossed around and tested by the German automaker, including a fully-electric option as well as two that are powered by petroleum. Both engines would displace around 600cc's and be turbocharged, one using gasoline

Audi reportedly has no plans to offer electric cars anytime soon. That's a shame, since as you can see from the picture of the R-Zero concept above, the German automaker is quite adept at creating mouth-watering EV designs. The thought of a Quattro all-wheel-drive electric car alongside the R10 diesel makes us truly hope that Audi has a change or heart.
