For those of you who can't wait for a factory-built electric vehicle, and can't swing the cash for a Tesla Roadster, a seller on eBay is offering up a recently converted 2001 Chrysler Sebring. This is the previous-generation Sebring, before the design went from plain to hideous.
The last time a Messerschmitt KR200 was mentioned in our pages, it was in conjunction with a new minicar book published in 2007. It's not surprising that we don't write about the car that often – it hasn't been produced since the 1960s. But the minicar design, beautiful lines and three wheels show that Smart ForTwos, NMGs and Apteras are just the latest in a long line of vehicles trying to subvert the standard "car" paradigm. If the vehicle pictured above, an olive drab 1956 model, appeals
How much is too much for a neighborhood electric vehicle? If you're talking about a somewhat unknown NEV that looks like a smart fortwo, can go about 60 miles per charge at a speed of 28 mph and are currently located in Alberta, Canada, $4,500 is too much. That's the lesson we take away from an eBay auction that ends tomorrow and has, well, zero bids. Zilch. The cars are being sold as a lot for $13,500, and we understand why there is little interest. These are unlicensed, slow-charge lead-acid b
Back in 1992 artist John T. Young constructed a vehicle so futuristic, it would have to wait hundreds of years months for its practicality to become apparent. Now that the perils of the global warming apocalypse are seemingly upon us, the Phibian Car's time has come and it stands ready to save the highest eBay bidder and a friend from both the ravages of rising oceans and zombies. Yeah, you heard me, rising oceans.
While it is quite sad to see electric scooter maker Vectrix balancing on the brink of bankruptcy, it should also be remembered that there's a silver lining to every cloud. In this case, quite a bit of silver. When the East coast company started to run into trouble late last year it had been in the midst of creating an extensive dealer network and had delivered bikes to stores all across the country. Many of those machines are still hanging around today, taking up space and waiting for customers
Seeing old Toyota RAV4 EVs pop up on eBay is nothing new. One of them usually goes up for auction several times a year. The one up for sale this week, though, isn't one of the vehicles that was originally built by the manufacturer. Instead this one is an aftermarket conversion done by a company known as Powered By DC, LLC. It uses a 30.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack which is claimed to provide a 100-mile range at freeway speeds. According to the listing, it has accumulated about 5,100
Another one of the surviving Toyota Rav4 EVs is up for grabs on eBay and as this is written it has yet to get any bids. The starting price for this one is a steep $45,000 and there is also an undisclosed reserve price. The seller is located in Santa Clara California and claims that none of the 50,600 miles the 2002 electric CUV have been outside of the Bay area, something that is easy to believe given the estimated 85-125 mile range. The Rav4 EV has a nickel metal hydride battery and comes with
