Fans of Top Gear should have no trouble remembering the Peel P50. The infamous mini-minicar was first introduced in the early 1960s (and recently brought back into production), and starred in the now-infamous Top Gear test where host Jeremy Clarkson drove the tiny car through the offices of the BBC.

Now, you, too, can get on the same sort of minuscule commuting action with this 1963 Peel P50 replica, available on eBay Motors for the Buy It Now price of $27,000. This P50 was built by Andy Carter's Modern Microcars UK, imported to the United States in 2009, and is currently registered and plated in California. It features a period-correct interior and exterior, but is now powered by a 200cc four-stroke Honda kart engine. Buying this P50 replica also gets you the super cute 1963 Czech PAV single-wheel steel-body trailer seen here, completely restored with a new stainless-steel frame.

Sure, $27,000 is a high price to pay for what's essentially a street-legal novelty item, but remember, you can't drive even the smallest of today's cars through the hallways of your office. Check out the P50 in our gallery above and scroll down to watch six-foot-five Jeremy Clarkson spend a day behind the wheel of the world's tiniest car.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: Peel P50 replica helps you commute like Jeremy Clarkson [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: Peel P50 replica helps you commute like Jeremy Clarkson [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 28 May 2013 16:58:00 EST.
As car lovers, it's always hard to find a good television show with decent cars, but what the 1990s show Viper lacked in acting, scripting and plot, it more than made up for with cool cars. For starters, the lead car was a Dodge Viper RT/10, but, on screen, it was able to morph into its "Defender" mode making it an armored coupe with a full arsenal of weapons.

Fortunately, you don't have to be a fan of the bad show to love its lead car, and if you really want one, a Defender is up for auction right now on eBay. According to the listing, this car is the real deal - not a clone - and it comes with a V8 engine (not sure what happened to the V10?) and plenty of swag and memorbilia. No word on its actual asking price, but with a day left and 42 bids already, the reserve has not been met at $133,400. The listing does add that this same car was listed at Mecum back in 2010, but did not get sold, even with a bid of $270,000.
eBay Find of the Day: Viper Defender from '90s TV show originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 24 May 2013 19:16:00 EST.
If you're still upset that you missed out on bringing home the $4.62 million 1966 Barris Batmobile, the internet may just have your redemption. Technically, the car created for the TV show wasn't the Caped Crusader's first ride. In the early '60s, All Star Dairies commissioned this machine to promote the company's Batman and Robin milk. The owner originally built the car between 1961 and 1963 using an Oldsmobile chassis (complete with a 350 V8) and a custom fiberglass body, and the dairy company approached the owner to lease it for two years to promote its comic-themed products. That makes this creation the world's first Batmobile, preceding the famous Barris machine by two years.

With wild fins, doors that actually slide into the bodywork and plenty of memorabilia from its illustrious past, the car is plenty cool. Unfortunately, the intervening four decades haven't exactly been kind to the vehicle, and it will need a full-on restoration. Right now there are four days left on the auction with an unanswered opening bid of $19,800. Check out the eBay Motors auction for more information.
eBay Find of the Day: The Batmobile before the first Batmobile originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 18:29:00 EST.
We've seen some pretty fantastic apocalypse vehicles in our day. We've even owned one or two, but this particular Jeep Comanche tugs at our heart strings in all the right ways. Let's start with the basics: there's a stout 4.0-liter engine underhood hooked to a five-speed manual transmission, and while we wish this truck was four-wheel drive, the two-inch lift and oversize tires should help you overcome obstacles with enough momentum.

Details like handy shovels, Jerry cans and a brush guard inspired by the hardware on a CUCV help lend the truck a no-nonsense appeal, and the functional CB whip antenna means you can ask for backup when the undead hordes come your way. If you like what you see as much as we do, you can head over to eBay Motors to place a bid. The auction has inched up to $4,000 with just two days left on the clock.
eBay Find of the Day: Jeep Comanche Zombie Response Unit originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 02 Feb 2013 10:00:00 EST.
Members of the motoring press who were invited to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray reveal all left with a pretty sweet press kit. The individually numbered black box within a black box contained not only a chunky little flash drive, but a paperweight adorned with an actual Stingray badge.

Before we even left the press reveal, at least one had popped up on eBay. There are several there now, including one being auctioned by Chevrolet for charity. Chevy's auction features number 1 of the 2,014 produced. Not only that, but the interior black box has been signed by "key GM executives."

With just about a half a day left on the timer, the bidding has reached more than $1,500 for this piece of rare Vette memorabilia. Considering it's the first kit in the series and the money will go to the American Cancer Society, we can't really argue with the steep price.
Is it just us or has eBay really become, of late, a surprising time capsule of older, barely used automobiles? We've had the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT with 83 miles, the 2004 Ferrari Enzo with 175 miles, the 1987 Shelby Lancer with 22 miles, the 1989 Shelby Dakota with 23 miles - none of those four cars ever even registered - and the 1975 Cosworth Vega with 191 miles. You can add to that list a 1977 Jeep J20 - the kind of Jeep that enthusiasts point to when they beg the brand to make another pickup truck.

Listed on eBay by Masterpiece Classic Cars in Whiteland, Indiana, the Brandywine and Alpine White truck has used its 360-cubic-inch V8 paired with a three-speed automatic to go just 3,940 documented miles. Not surprisingly, it's listed in excellent condition and the images appear to bear that out. The three-quarter-ton pickup comes with its original manual and pamphlets, the Quadra-Track four-wheel drive probably just as ready to tackle the terrain as it was 36 years ago. If only it came with some John Denver to play in that AM/FM/8-Track stereo...

At the time of writing it hasn't garnered a single offer or bid, probably due to the above-top-dollar Buy It Now price of $34,900. Still, since this is likely the closest you'll get to a Jeep pickup for some time, we'd recommend admiring it in the gallery of photos above.
eBay Find of the Day: 1977 Jeep J20 time capsule originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 08 Jan 2013 16:29:00 EST.
While most of our time on eBay Motors is spent looking for a good eBay Find of the Day article or daydreaming about our next project vehicle, there are plenty of people who actually use the site to purchase cars and parts - to the tune of $3.7 billion in Q3 2012 alone. With the year coming to a close, eBay Motors has revealed the top makes and models that have rolled across its virtual auction block and where these purchases were made.

The Big Three occupied the top three spots for the top makes, while American muscle cars (Mustang, Corvette and Camaro) and Ford pickup trucks (F-250 and F-150) were the top five models. Of the $3.7 billion brought in during Q3 2012, eBay says that $2 billion was from vehicle sales and the remaining $1.7 billion was from parts and accessories. Not surprisingly, more than three-quarters of all vehicles sold on eBay during this same time period were interstate transactions with California, Florida and Texas drawing the most sales.

Ed Church bought his first motorcycle, a 1958 Harley-Davidson, when he was a sophomore in high school. He rode it and learned to dearly love it over the next 13 years, and then sold it when his daughter was born. Like many of us who've been in the same position, Church regretted the decision he made to sell the bike, practical though it may have been, and spent many years wondering what he'd do if he could only find it again.

This eBay video (part of its new eBay Thanks You series) may be just a tiny bit over-the-top in its tenderly scored and sepia-toned scenes, but it still tells a pretty great story. Motoring enthusiasts and romantics alike, be warned, the video below may jerk a tear or two.
Continue reading Man reunited with his first Harley after more than 30 years

Man reunited with his first Harley after more than 30 years originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 19 Oct 2012 18:44:00 EST. Most of those machines have returned to the earth in spectacular fashion by now, but it looks as if one owner in Pennsville, New Jersey sealed two of the machines away from the world to preserve them for future generations. Behold what could very well be the cleanest and most original 1987 Shelby Lancer and 1989 Shelby Dakota on the face of the planet.

According to their eBay Motors listings, these machines have never been registered, and both still retain their original dealer markings, right down to the protective plastic on the seats and steering wheels. The owner even has the original batteries for both vehicles. What's more, both are #6 in their respective production lines, making them the first civilian models sold. The Lancer has but 22 miles on its odometer, and the Dakota 23. Right now, both relics have Buy It Now prices of $29,000, but the Shelby Dakota is the only one of the pair with a bid.

Of course, the real tragedy here is that the owner has effectively relegated these vehicles to museum duty. Depending on how they've been maintained, the damage done by sitting for years on end could require serious effort and dollars to erase. As of the time of writing, the truck is up to a smidge over $15,400 with three days left on the auction.
eBay Finds of the Day: Brand-new, never registered 1987 Shelby Dodge Lancer and 1989 Shelby Dakota originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 11 Oct 2012 16:30:00 EST.
If you're like us, when you think about idiosyncratic, envelope-pushing automotive design, your thoughts do not automatically turn to the sedans Mitsubishi was pushing out in the 1980s. As it turns out though - and as we are amply reminded by the ceaseless wonders of eBay Motors - the 1988 Mitsubishi Galant Sigma was moving the needle in terms of interior design, at least.

In this meticulously well-documented example, you'll see that the Sigma had it going on as far as steering-wheel accessible controls. Though not actually mounted on the wheel itself, as has become the dominant layout, the Galant designers put all of the highest-use functions within a finger's reach, through the huge aperture of the one-spoke wheel. Most notable here is the turn-signal stalk, which protrudes out through the steering wheel, defying convention, logic and indeed, crashworthiness in a flourish that can only be described as "sort of French."

Do yourself a favor and spend a little time browsing this very large gallery of Mitsubishi Galant Sigma images. This very rare car is a time capsule from 1988 that is worth the price of admission. You can check out the auction (still days and days to go, eager bidders), here.
eBay Find of the Day: 1988 Mitsubishi Galant Sigma has world's strangest turn signal stalk originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Sep 2012 18:29:00 EST.
A few months ago, eBay Motors challenged four teams to a build-off contest to be aired on its BUILT web series. The top garages were all tasked with sourcing vehicles and parts only from eBay, transforming each machine into something special and then offering up the finished product for sale through an eBay auction with all proceeds from the sales going to charity.

Without question, each team approached the project differently. At one end of the spectrum is a spectacular Porsche 911 Rally racer, built in the spirit of the famed Rothmans 911. At the other end is a Chevrolet G20 van, inspired by World War II aircraft, complete with a NOS-inhaling V8.

Considering how much work went into each, the current prices are bargain-basement low. Get your bidding in now, as the charity auction only runs through Friday, Sept. 14.
Ever wanted to own a winning Pikes Peak car? No, we're not talking about one of Monster Tajima's rides, but a class winner and fifth overall. The car is the 2012 Palatov D4 PPS. It's for sale on eBay and it won the Unlimited class at this year's Pikes Peak hill climb.

Usually, in an eBay descriptor, you learn about specifics like mileage, condition of the body, number of previous owners, etc. This descriptor included the following information: Chromoly TIG welded chassis, proprietary AWD system, 1,100 pounds, 1.3-liter Harley H2 engine, custom Hewland sequential gearbox; we could go on.

The seller points out that while many Pikes Peak cars are only optimal on that particular course, this vehicle could be easily used for track days. It is also noted that several photos show an application of a naturally aspirated V8. The model they are selling comes equipped with the turbocharged inline-four.

This year, the car ran Pikes Peak in 10 minutes and four seconds, which was good enough to take the Unlimited class. If you want a piece of history like this, bidding is at $50,000 and the reserve has not been met. The "Buy it Now" price is for $125,000. In the context of world-class hill climb performers, that is not a bad deal. Check out the video of their near-ten-minute run below.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: Pikes Peak-winning racecar [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: Pikes Peak-winning racecar [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 07 Sep 2012 11:28:00 EST.
In 1970, General Motors vice president John DeLorean wanted more power for the Chevrolet division's Vega. After five years of development, the Cosworth Vega was born. Sometime that year, somebody in Farmington, Ill. bought Cosworth Vega No. 1,094 of 2,061 cars built that year and promptly stored it away.

After changing hands several times, including in 2000 for $9,500 then again a few years later for $28,600 at a Mecum auction, No. 1094 is again available to a new owner. The eBay Motors Buy-It-Now price from RK Motors of Charlotte, NC is $34,900 - no small ask.

However, this is quite possibly the lowest miles, most pristine 1975 Cosworth Vega extant. The odometer shows only 290 miles, and the satin black paint is all original. Inside, the carpet looks factory fresh, and the engine-turned bezel around the instruments gleams like the day it was born.

Even if you're not a Cosworth Vega fan, check out our gallery for a quick trip back to 1975.
eBay Find of the Day: 1975 Chevy Cosworth Vega with just 291 miles originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 29 Aug 2012 14:31:00 EST.
If you are a classic car purist who cringes at the thought of a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air that is not "numbers matching," you may want to look away. If you are intrigued by what strange oddities the interwebs can turn up, carry on.

Found on the ever-fruitful eBay Motors, this custom-built "1927 Model T" is a *ahem* unique approach to old-meets-new, and gives new meaning to the term "Resto-Mod." Apparently, the owner calls is a rat rod, but eBay wisely classifies this Missouri resident as "Ford > Other." While the grille and frame are original, little else is. The body is wrapped in love-it or hate-it carbon fiber vinyl and rides on 20-inch custom wheels wrapped in performance tires. The engine is a 350-cubic-inch V8 with Edelbrock carbs, and the whole package has only 1,100 miles on the odometer.

Want a piece of this one-of-a-kind "resto-Model-T?" Just pony up the $18,995 Buy It Now. We're not sure how we feel about the car itself, but at face value, that seems like a pretty significant deal for such a unique piece. We put it to you, dear readers: What do you think of this direction for custom rides? Let us know in Comments.
eBay Find of the Day: Is this 1927 Model T Roadster awesome or loathsome? originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 06 Aug 2012 11:29:00 EST.
Yes, we've seen this 1985 Saab 900 Turbo limo for sale before. But somehow, this time is just seems more right. And we've got more pictures this go-around.

With the Saab brand now dormant and little hope for a true renaissance, save for one that comes in name only, Saab's future must lie in the celebration of great cars of its past. And what better way to celebrate the wonderful Saab 900 than to chop it in half and turn it into a freaking limousine?

Claimed to have been built by a Denver area Saab specialist, this five-speed manual 900 Turbo is listed with a Buy It Now of $8,500. It's actually surprisingly well turned-out, too, with a pretty decent interior that sticks to real Saab seats, avoiding the crushed-velvet or button-festooned lounge chair look. While this seems rather spendy for a well-used limousine, good luck finding another one like it. And besides, that's a lot less than the $12,500 asking price from back in 2010.

Just promise us one thing: If you do buy it and your drive home from Baltimore passes through the Midwest, drop us a line, because we'd love to go for a ride in the back.
eBay Find of the Day: 1985 Saab Turbo Limo is the ultimate high school reunion ride originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 18 Jul 2012 18:30:00 EST.
It isn't always kittens and cotton candy when a client splits with an advertising agency, especially at the end of a long relationship. If either side makes a statement at all, it's usually full of platitudes and the kind of celebrity divorce tone that leads you to wonder, "What happened there?"

There's none of that after Mini Canada separated from its agency of ten years, Taxi in Toronto - well, almost none of it. Instead, Taxi is taking its own 2008 Mini, the one it displayed in its boardroom, for one final publicity splurge by auctioning it on eBay and donating the proceeds to Toronto's Covenant House. It is an excellent way to go.

At the time of writing the bidding is up to $10,500 Canadian (about the same in U.S. dollars). Have a look below for a few samples of Taxi's work for Mini over the years, and head over to eBay to get in on the charity action.
Continue reading Mini Canada's former ad agency selling one last car

Mini Canada's former ad agency selling one last car originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 14 Jul 2012 16:02:00 EST.
eBay Motors and AutoNation are quickly establishing a reputation for finding new ways to sell cars online. They teamed up for the first time back in March when they tried selling vehicles for half price on the popular auction site. This weekend they're back with another unique promotion that will see the price for certain vehicles drop every hour until they're sold.

The reverse auctions began at 12:00 PM EST today and will run through 8:00 PM EST on Monday, July 2. Each day about 10 vehicles will be posted for sale with an initial Buy it Now price that matches their MSRP. Every hour their prices will drop according to a list of prices that accompanies each auction. A 2012 Nissan Rogue that kicks off the promotion, for instance, is dropping by $500 per hour. The good news is that there is no limit to how far prices can drop, nor a reserve they need to stay above. The only limiting factor is the other person out there who's willing to pay $500 more than you.

As for what sort of vehicles will be sold via this promotion, the list includes vehicles from Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Nissan and Toyota, and includes popular models like the Camaro, Mustang, F-150, Fusion, Challenger, Charger, Wrangler, Prius C, Camry and more. And in case you're worried about getting the Mechanic's Special, all of the 50-some vehicles being sold this way are still under factory warranty.

Get your wallets ready and head on over to the special landing page to watch the prices drop.
Continue reading eBay Motors dropping prices hourly on certain cars until they sell

eBay Motors dropping prices hourly on certain cars until they sell originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 16:31:00 EST.
How much would you pay for a derelict '67 Chevrolet Corvette with a 427? If you said about thirty grand, you'd be in the ballpark - but that would still be all the money in the world for a barn find like this 'Vette. The owner admits the car hasn't run in over 30 years and she (the car, not the owner) clearly needs to get involved in a serious relationship with a body man.

But what if we told you that Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, the hero of the NASA Apollo program, and by all accounts a genuine good guy, was the first owner of the car? How much would that make it worth? Better hope your guess has six digits in it, because bidding on eBay Motors for this derelict but potentially highly collectible car has already shot past $120,000 - and has yet to meet the seller's reserve price.

Before readying the checkbook, however, we might suggest actually reading the seller's ALL CAPS description. It's a wonderful tale that starts with the car being provided by Rathman Chevrolet, the famed dealership that leased Corvettes to astronauts for $1 per year. A NASA employee allegedly bought the car after Armstrong turned it in and the seller claims he's hounded that NASA employee for 30 years trying to buy the Corvette, but it was only two months ago that he claimed his prize. There's a whole lot more to the story, including buying a carburetor in Texas and wanting to turn the car into a National Corvette Restorers Society "Survivor."

The bottom line, however, is that the seller is now trying to flip the Chevrolet, without much in the way of evidence that the car belonged to Armstrong, at least that's presented in the eBay Motors auction. Perhaps we're just being skeptical, but before spending over $100,000 on a car for which the majority of the purchase price is for its provenance, we'd like to see more in the way of authentication than one Protect-O-Plate photo. Since Neil Armstrong is still alive, we hope that whoever winds up restoring this Corvette does a more thorough job of vetting and presenting its history.
eBay Find of the Day: Neil Armstrong's '67 Corvette originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 May 2012 16:30:00 EST.
You've never seen a 1981 Yenko Camaro? Maybe that's because only 19 were made and they usually sell for well north of what a new Camaro will cost you from your local Chevrolet dealer.

One gorgeously restored, matching numbers example is up for purchase on eBay Motors for the eye-watering Buy-It-Now price of $180k. But please consider the car's claimed history and stat sheet before passing judgement.

As the legend goes, in 1969, Yenko Chevrolet of Murray, Pennsylvania took a 12-year break from modding Camaros. But low compression '80s engines got under the skin of Don Yenko, and in 1981, the tuning legend proceeded to cram a turbocharged, four-barrel, 350 V8 under the hood of the second-generation car. Horsepower on the rare Yenko is unclear, but it should definitely be way more than the stock Z-28's meager 175 hp. Reports suggest this was to be Yenko's final big build, and the owner of this eBay find says this one is the very last 1981 Yenko produced.

On top of all that, the Charlotte, North Carolina seller says that the car has fewer than 30k miles, some of which were supposedly put there by curious automotive journalists. The winning bidder will get the original build sheet, window sticker and a production intent letter signed by Don Yenko.
eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko Turbo originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 16:01:00 EST.
As a rule, Hurst used to be a company that was more than happy to partner with just about any automaker that walked through the door. While we're plenty familiar with vehicles like the Hurst Oldsmobile 442, more obscure relics like the 1980 Hurst Shawnee International Harvester Scout and this Jeep Jeepster Commando also populate the pages of the company's history books. Details like one very patriotic stripe package, a hood scoop and a hood-mounted tachometer all help set this Jeepster apart from its kin. Of course, a Hurst gated automatic shifter and appropriate badges are also part of the package.

This particular example is up for bid with only a few hours left on the auction. The price has inched up to $7,500 with the reserve still not met. With a shave over 73,000 miles on the odometer and one of the cleanest Jeepster bodies we've ever seen, this particular Commando is a little bit of work away from being a unique museum piece. Head over to eBay Motors for a closer look.
eBay Find of the Day: 1970 Jeep Jeepster Commando Hurst originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:31:00 EST.
