As car lovers, it's always hard to find a good television show with decent cars, but what the 1990s show Viper lacked in acting, scripting and plot, it more than made up for with cool cars. For starters, the lead car was a Dodge Viper RT/10, but, on screen, it was able to morph into its "Defender" mode making it an armored coupe with a full arsenal of weapons.

Fortunately, you don't have to be a fan of the bad show to love its lead car, and if you really want one, a Defender is up for auction right now on eBay. According to the listing, this car is the real deal - not a clone - and it comes with a V8 engine (not sure what happened to the V10?) and plenty of swag and memorbilia. No word on its actual asking price, but with a day left and 42 bids already, the reserve has not been met at $133,400. The listing does add that this same car was listed at Mecum back in 2010, but did not get sold, even with a bid of $270,000.
eBay Find of the Day: Viper Defender from '90s TV show originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 24 May 2013 19:16:00 EST.
As the story goes, it was United States GIs, stationed in Great Britain during World War II, who first fell in love with the MG marque. There they saw, drove and were smitten by the MG T-Series roadsters. After the war, thousands of enthusiasts drove and raced cars like this 1948 MG TC here in the US - no less than Formula One's Phil Hill and the late Dean of Automotive Journalism, David E. Davis, Jr., found the cars to be willing companions.

So you can rest assured, at least, that if you were to pick up this very excellent MG example from eBay Motors, you'll be in excellent company.

By the looks of things, you'll have an excellent little British sports car, too. This particular TC has been fortified with a "Mirage Garage" supercharger, likely bumping up the very modest original output of the 1.3-liter four-cylinder from 45 horsepower to close to 70 hp. The current owner has also installed a five-speed Ford gearbox, likely making this TC quiet drivable by modern standards. The tan paint stripe down the side of the body, along with the non-stock internals will likely exclude the '48 from the love of concours judges, but driving is more fun than parking on grass, anyway.

An ambious asking price of $79,999 (or best offer) will scare away the faint of heart, but for those well-heeled and looking for a classic weekend diversion, you could do far worse.
eBay Find of the Day: Supercharged MG TC with five-speed originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 25 Apr 2013 08:00:00 EST.
You'll get to keep your Car Guy membership card even if you haven't heard of Glenfrome of England. The company was founded in the 1970s and made some noise in the 1980s with rebodied Land Rover Range Rover creations that were, to be charitable, weird as hell. The mid-Eighties marked out a high-water point for the coachbuilders, as Glenfrome turned out six-door limos, open-backed and stair-equipped versions for reviewing military exercises (no kidding) and the utterly inscrutable Glenfrome Facet that you see before you.

Nothing makes sense about this eBay Motors listing for a 1987 Glenfrome Facet Convertible. Nothing. Its styling suggests the historically and biologically impossible progeny of a Lamborghini LM002, an Isuzu Amigo and a Volkswagen Schwimmwagen. Its pedigree suggests that it should be in the deepest reaches of some Saudi's car warehouse, not parked in a driveway in South Carolina. And its rose metallic paint over burgundy leather interior does not conceptually jive with the Desert Storm tribute on its spare tire cover. Based on the pictures here, we're guessing that the digital camera employed is from roughly the same vintage as the vehicle, too.

Rather than fight it, however, we've decided to treasure the uniqueness of finding this "Crown Prince of Saudi" Range Rover redo up for sale right here in the US. Though far from vouching for the provenance of the Facet, we suspect that this vehicle is so rare and weird that is must, almost certainly, be the real deal. Whether or not that likely validity makes it worth $52,000 (the current Buy It Now price on the listing) is another story entirely. Caveat Emptor.
eBay Find of the Day: 1987 Glenfrome Facet hides its Land Rover identity well originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 30 Mar 2013 17:00:00 EST. Something like an unregistered 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. The car has never been titled and has just 83 miles on the odometer. With one owner since new, the Carrera GT is likely to be as nice an example as you're likely to find outside of a museum. Porsche only built 340 of these machines back in 2005, and with a 610 horsepower V10 kicking at your spine, you can lap Santa's sleigh next year. Currently, the Carrera GT has a buy it now price of $457,325 with around six days left on the auction.

Not flashy enough for your tastes? Stroll on down to West Hollywood and you'll find a similarly untitled 2004 Ferrari Enzo up for grabs with a sticker of $1.8 million. Technically a Euro-spec car, the Enzo isn't legal to operate on US roads, but could be modified to satisfy Uncle Sam with a little effort. The seller calls this car the "last brand-new Enzo in existence" and with 175 miles on the clock, that may be a true statement. You can head over to eBay Motors for a closer look if you're feeling spendy.
eBay Find of the Day: Your choice of new, unregistered mid-2000s supercars originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 26 Dec 2012 15:30:00 EST. Most of those machines have returned to the earth in spectacular fashion by now, but it looks as if one owner in Pennsville, New Jersey sealed two of the machines away from the world to preserve them for future generations. Behold what could very well be the cleanest and most original 1987 Shelby Lancer and 1989 Shelby Dakota on the face of the planet.

According to their eBay Motors listings, these machines have never been registered, and both still retain their original dealer markings, right down to the protective plastic on the seats and steering wheels. The owner even has the original batteries for both vehicles. What's more, both are #6 in their respective production lines, making them the first civilian models sold. The Lancer has but 22 miles on its odometer, and the Dakota 23. Right now, both relics have Buy It Now prices of $29,000, but the Shelby Dakota is the only one of the pair with a bid.

Of course, the real tragedy here is that the owner has effectively relegated these vehicles to museum duty. Depending on how they've been maintained, the damage done by sitting for years on end could require serious effort and dollars to erase. As of the time of writing, the truck is up to a smidge over $15,400 with three days left on the auction.
eBay Finds of the Day: Brand-new, never registered 1987 Shelby Dodge Lancer and 1989 Shelby Dakota originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 11 Oct 2012 16:30:00 EST.
Ever wanted to own a winning Pikes Peak car? No, we're not talking about one of Monster Tajima's rides, but a class winner and fifth overall. The car is the 2012 Palatov D4 PPS. It's for sale on eBay and it won the Unlimited class at this year's Pikes Peak hill climb.

Usually, in an eBay descriptor, you learn about specifics like mileage, condition of the body, number of previous owners, etc. This descriptor included the following information: Chromoly TIG welded chassis, proprietary AWD system, 1,100 pounds, 1.3-liter Harley H2 engine, custom Hewland sequential gearbox; we could go on.

The seller points out that while many Pikes Peak cars are only optimal on that particular course, this vehicle could be easily used for track days. It is also noted that several photos show an application of a naturally aspirated V8. The model they are selling comes equipped with the turbocharged inline-four.

This year, the car ran Pikes Peak in 10 minutes and four seconds, which was good enough to take the Unlimited class. If you want a piece of history like this, bidding is at $50,000 and the reserve has not been met. The "Buy it Now" price is for $125,000. In the context of world-class hill climb performers, that is not a bad deal. Check out the video of their near-ten-minute run below.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: Pikes Peak-winning racecar [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: Pikes Peak-winning racecar [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 07 Sep 2012 11:28:00 EST.
Yes, we've seen this 1985 Saab 900 Turbo limo for sale before. But somehow, this time is just seems more right. And we've got more pictures this go-around.

With the Saab brand now dormant and little hope for a true renaissance, save for one that comes in name only, Saab's future must lie in the celebration of great cars of its past. And what better way to celebrate the wonderful Saab 900 than to chop it in half and turn it into a freaking limousine?

Claimed to have been built by a Denver area Saab specialist, this five-speed manual 900 Turbo is listed with a Buy It Now of $8,500. It's actually surprisingly well turned-out, too, with a pretty decent interior that sticks to real Saab seats, avoiding the crushed-velvet or button-festooned lounge chair look. While this seems rather spendy for a well-used limousine, good luck finding another one like it. And besides, that's a lot less than the $12,500 asking price from back in 2010.

Just promise us one thing: If you do buy it and your drive home from Baltimore passes through the Midwest, drop us a line, because we'd love to go for a ride in the back.
eBay Find of the Day: 1985 Saab Turbo Limo is the ultimate high school reunion ride originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 18 Jul 2012 18:30:00 EST.
If you're looking at this auction and thinking, "Who in the hell would pay six figures for a derelict Dodge van covered in graffiti?," just go ahead and check out our Geneva coverage or something.

Whatever. Never mind.

Because to those of us who watch Portlandia and never stopped buying records (yes, hipster Millennials, they're called records, not "vinyls"), this van might as well be a time machine. Just thinking about a band like the Melvins takes us back to being young, to a time where anything was possible ...

Well, that's just patently untrue.

When the current owner of this 1972 Dodge Sportsman van acquired it from the mother of Melvins bassist Matt Lukin in 1992, nothing was possible. Or at least that sort of nihilism was the zeitgeist of the era.

The van itself was the seminal grunge band's tour vehicle, reportedly having been both driven and illustrated by none other than Kurt Cobain, a great admirer and friend of the band in the late 1980s. The van's value is derived almost entirely from a mural of the band Kiss that Cobain drew on its side, which is why the "Melvan" is not listed on eBay Motors, but in eBay's art section.

Cobain, of course, went on to later fame as frontman of Nirvana, but committed suicide in 1994, the same year the van last saw use. If there's one thing that Cobain made clear through his suicide, it's that angst-as-religion doesn't play out well. With his passing, grunge began to die off, and the rest of us were forced to grow up.

We're old now, most of us fans are at least pushing 40, if not already "over the hill." This makes an artifact like the Melvan desirable for sheer nostalgia, but there's more to it than that. Most Cobain-related memorabilia seem unfortunately tarnished by his ultimate demise, while this piece harkens back to an earlier, more hopeful point in Cobain's life. A time before the fame and drugs and pressures of public life conspired to destroy him.

Think about it: Who would draw Kiss on the side of a junky old van with a Sharpie other than a goofy kid? That seems like the best imaginable way to remember Kurt.
eBay Find of the Day: Kurt Cobain-decorated 1972 Dodge Sportsman "Melvan" originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 08 Mar 2012 13:57:00 EST.
Is the Acura Legend a bit too "Asian" for your late-80's tastes? Perhaps you're attracted to its 2.7-liter V6, but not the packaging surrounding it. Your love for Fawlty Towers, Manchester United and Winston Churchill push you towards an automobile that lets everyone know you prefer the Union Jack to the Stars and Stripes. Well, we've found your next car, and you can Buy It Now for a mere pence under four grand.

A former unidentified automotive journalist has decided to part with his Sterling 827SLi (sadly, he's not an Autoblog scribe, or we'd have smacked him until he came to his senses). The rare five-door in question was a former member of Sterling's press fleet here in the States, and it's claimed to be the last one ever sold in the States. 150,000 miles or so later, it can be a proud part of your fleet.

In case you don't remember, Sterling was a U.S. automobile company produced by Austin Rover Cars North America, the U.S. arm of British carmaker Rover. Engines (and in truth, most of the car beneath the skin) was supplied through a partnership with Honda, with the 827SLi you see here benefited from the same mill stuck under the hood as the Acura Legend. Unlike the Legend, which was arguably a paragon of precision and reliability in its day, Sterling's reputation for build quality stood in opposition to its Japanese roots. Leave it to the British to make a Japanese car unreliable.

The Sterling legacy in America only lasted from 1987 to 1992, and most of the cars that were produced were the more conventional 825 sedan, not this comparatively rare 827SLi liftback. Toward the end of its run, Sterling products actually began to improve a bit, but it was too late in the minds of American car buyers. It's not too late for you though, so head over to eBay Motors to check out what is probably the finest example of this dying breed while it lasts.
eBay Find of the Day: Last Rover 827SLi sold in America? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 16:30:00 EST.
Intermeccanica may be best known today for producing its Roadster, a Porsche 356 replica. Years ago, however, the company built a handful of uniquely styled automobiles for a variety of customers. One of those customers was the J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency, which commissioned a Ford Mustang station wagon to be shown off to Blue Oval brass. The Ford execs never went forward creating a Mustang wagon of their own, but a few other folks did. The one you see here was built by Joe Ramp, and you can put it in your garage because it's for sale.

Starting with a 1965 Mustang hardtop coupe, Ramp stretched out the roof and created custom rear side glass along with the fabricated D-pillars. The builder tried to retain as much as the stock body as possible, so the rest of the car is all Ford-built Mustang.

Builder Joe Ramp decided to upgrade the powertrain in order to better haul around the extra bit of weight. A 5.0-liter V8 sits underhood and is paired with a T5 five-speed manual gearbox. The power is routed to an eight-inch Ford rear-end and 3.00 gears. Custom control arms and upgraded shocks help the Mustang handle any cargo placed out back.

The car appears to be a clean example of what could have been. RK Motors of Charlotte, North Carolina has listed the car for sale on eBay, with a Buy It Now price of $59,990. Currently, the bidding sits at $15,100, with an unmet reserve. Take a look at the car in the gallery below, and click past the jump if you want to hear it running.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: 1965 Ford Mustang shooting brake is a family pony [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: 1965 Ford Mustang shooting brake is a family pony [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Jun 2011 15:29:00 EST. Interested in putting a Local Motors Rally Fighter in your garage but don't want to put in any of your own wrench time? Perhaps you don't mind turning wrenches but would prefer not to wait until the next build session, which starts in January of 2012? We've found the answer to your problems. A fully built Rally Fighter is for sale on eBay Motors, and you can "Buy It Now" for $84,900.

This particular Rally Fighter features a 430-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine that would otherwise be found under the hood of a Chevrolet Corvette. The mighty mill is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and each unit comes with a GM Performance Parts warranty. The Fox suspension allows for 18-inches of travel in the front and 20-inches out back. Inside the Rally Fighter, a set of Sparco seats help keep occupants in check, and the power windows, air conditioning and heat keep them comfortable.

If the asking price seems a bit steep for your tastes, the seller is also accepting offers. Head over to eBay Motors, and take a look at the only ready-to-rumble Rally Fighter we know of that's for sale right now... at least for the rest of the day.
eBay Find of the Day: 2011 Local Motors Rally Fighter originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 01 Jun 2011 09:30:00 EST.
The Datsun 240Z is a pantheon vehicle. By that we mean it belongs on many a car enthusiasts' all-time great vehicle lists. If you're in the market, there are plenty of options on eBay that will help you put one in your driveway. One Datsun in particular has caught our eye due to the quality of its execution. How much would it cost to own the beautiful S30 shown above? If you wanted to Buy It Now, you'd better have $85,000 burning a hole in your pocket.

That's right, we said $85,000, and that figure is reduced from an ambitious previous asking price of $125,000. What could cause someone to think their Z is worth that much? A complete frame-off restoration and a parts list that makes us think the owner is capable of Inception, since it reads like something from our modified car dreams.

Under the hood sits a SR20DET, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine taken from a 2002 Nissan Silvia. The suspension and brakes have been upgraded with Arizona Z car and Wilwood components. Basically, anything that could've been upgraded has been taken care of.

Still, you'd be hard-pressed to find a 240Z buyer looking to plunk down that many Benjamins for a car. There's no doubt that leading Japanese classics are climbing in price, and this car might be snatched up quickly at half the asking price. Head over to eBay Motors for the full listing. Thanks for the tip, Sid!

eBay Find of the Day: 1991 GMC Marlboro Syclone - Click above for image gallery

In 1991, General Motors decided it wanted to build a truck not for utility but for speed. The GMC Syclone, with its 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine and all-wheel-drive setup, became the fastest truck on the planet and was able to shock many sportscars and exotics of its time. Ferrari 348ts? The Syclone was quicker down the quarter-mile dragstrip. Porsche 911 Turbo? The GMC bullet train was quicker to 60 miles per hour.

Production of the Syclone lasted one full year and 2,995 examples were produced. Three did come off the line for the 1992 model year, but good luck finding one of those. During its production run, there were two special-edition trucks produced by third parties; an Indy Syclone and the Marlboro Syclone.

Finding an example of either is quite rare, seeing as how just three Indy and 10 Marlboro examples were produced. That doesn't mean you'll never see one, however, as there's a 1991 GMC Marlboro Syclone is sitting on eBay Motors waiting for a new home.

In 1992, Marlboro Racing held a contest and 10 winners were chosen and given the keys to a special-edition Syclone. The trucks were sent to Shinoda Design after getting a haircut from American Sunroof Corporation (the t-top roof panels are removable and easily stored in the bed). The custom wheels were designed by Boyd Coddington. The Hot Lick Red paint was devised by PPG and the side graphics were created by Graphik Concepts. Inside, the Marlboro Syclone features a Simpson five-point harness belt setup draped over Recaro seats, a custom Momo steering wheel and a Sony head unit. This particular Syclone is also chipped, dropped and has a Borla exhaust system. Better yet, it shows just 976 miles on the odometer.

Needless to say, this is a very rare, very fast truck. It currently stands with four bids at $26,300 and an unmet reserve. Head on over to eBay Motors and check out this red rocketship.

eBay Find of the Day: 1991 Nissan 300ZX convertible concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

Finding a Nissan 300ZX convertible is not necessarily an amazing eBay occurrence. Finding the 1991 300ZX folding hardtop convertible concept car, however, is quite a big deal.

Nissan sold the Z32, or second generation 300ZX, in the United States from 1990 to 1996. In 1993, the automaker launched a convertible version to go along with existing t-top and hardtop variants. This came in response to aftermarket companies offering convertible conversions. Before the 1993 convertible came out, Nissan produced a concept version that was shown at the 1992 Paris, Geneva and Detroit auto shows. And while the production car utilized soft-tops, however this concept featured a power-folding, retractable hardtop.

Working with American Sunroof Corporation (ASC), Nissan built its own convertible 300ZX and showed it off around the world. This car is now for sale on eBay, with a Buy-It-Now price of $62,000. Power is provided by the standard 3.0-liter V6 and it's paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car only shows 8,202 miles on the odometer and, along with the very unique top, features one-off 17-inch polished aluminum wheels.

Is $62,000 too high a price to pay for such a unique piece of Nissan's history? Maybe not if you factor in the original build cost, which was allegedly in excess of $800,000 (at least according to the seller's listing). Besides the car, the winning bidder will also get the original show stand and a ton of documentation in both written and video form.

Take a gander at this drop-top Nissan 300ZX in the gallery below, and be sure to take a look at the auction over at eBay Motors.

eBay Find of the Day: 1959 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder - Click above for high-res image gallery

One of our favorite cars on the planet, and perhaps in the known galaxy, is the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. This love affair is easily traced back to one Mr. Ferris Bueller and his Most Excellent Day Off. Sure, the car used in that movie was a Ford V8-powered kit car (oh, the delicious irony of that!) but the looks were there and they seared a lasting impression on our retinas and in our hearts. If one were to pop up on eBay, we would surely be ready to buy it - wait, scratch that because one IS on eBay with a current bid of $600,000 and an unmet reserve. This one's a little rich for our blood but a steal for anyone out there...with the means.

This particular example is not your standard one-of-50-or-so-produced classic Ferrari 250 GT dream machines. This happens to be one of the nine aluminum-bodied competition cars. It also features the Tipo 508 D frame, which was an improvement over the less-stiff Tipo 508 C. The car has an interesting history as well. The son of the second owner was driving it home from a fishing trip in Florida when he was run off the road and landed between two bridge abutments. The body of the car was lightly damaged and some side body panels were fixed using steel instead of the original alloy material.

Since the car is not a perfect specimen, it just might be ripe for the picking. It certainly looks amazing, is original with the exception of the repaired panels and it represents an amazing period in the Ferrari timeline. The mileage is listed at 52,000 and we would love to help someone put a few more on the clock. We'll even bring our copy of "Beat City" by The Flowerpot Men. Check out the auction for yourself over at eBay Motors and then a look through the gallery below. Finally, don't forget to take a peek after the jump for a clip of some Ferris Bueller Ferrari action highlights.

PS: anyone who posts video of the car being destroyed will be banned (no, not really) - it's been years since we watched that scene but our hearts simply cannot take another viewing.

We're aching for some seat time in the the new Ford Police Interceptor, but given our choice of flogging one of the new-school bruisers or one of the old-school cruisers, we know which one we'd take. And it just happened to appear on eBay Motors. Used as an ex-Bondurant Driving School car, this 1999 Crown Victoria is just one of eighteen cars built by Roush for Bob Bondurant's school. Number 15, to be precise.

Under the hood sits a 320-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine plucked from the 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra. The typical police-issue slushbox has been nixed in favor of the T45 five-speed manual normally reserved for SVT Cobra duty. The front and rear suspension setup features Eibach springs and solid sway bars, and the go-fast action can be brought to a quicker halt thanks to a set of Brembo rotors, Hawk pads and Baer steel-braided brake lines. The car is also fitted with a Corbeau driver's seat and five-point safety harness, four-point harnesses for the other seats and a fully-integrated roll cage. If that isn't enough, this potential super-sleeper has a Halon fire suppression system should things get a little warm in the cabin.

The good news is that you can put this car in your driveway by parting with 20,000 of your hard-earned dollars, or perhaps somewhat less if you're a savvy bidder. The bad news? it's not street legal. It's a purpose-built machine for Bondurant and has never been registered or titled. Track beater anyone?

Hop on over to eBay to see the listing to see the specs and hop the jump to see this big black beast in action.

Gulf liveried DeLorean - Click above for high-res image gallery

Don't get us wrong. We love ourselves some DeLorean, and we'd argue there may not be a more iconic motorsports paint scheme in history than the classic Gulf Racing livery. But sometimes, two rights make one horrible wrong. Such is the case with today's eBay Find of the Day.

Call us purists if you must, but DeLoreans should all be left in their bare unfinished stainless steel suit. And so it's a rather good thing that this otherwise fine example of the breed isn't actually painted at all - the horrid coating you see in the images below is actually a vinyl wrap. Thank God for small miracles.

Looking past the unfortunate wrap, what we have here appears to be a very nice gullwinged coupe with under 10,000 miles. It's got the preferred five-speed manual transmission, has been updated with an Eibach suspension kit and it's been otherwise completely refurbished by the experts at DeLorean Motor Company.

At the time of this writing, the top bid sits at just over $15K and there's five days left. Happy bidding (and happy removal of its vinyl wrap...)!

The definition of insanity is said to be doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Based on that description almost every person that has ever tried to start a new sports car company must be absolutely certifiable, Certainly, some of the people that dealt with Vector creator Gerald Wiegert over the years would probably apply that label. Over the span of 35 years, Wiegert never really gave up his dream of building an American supercar, but over that time period, fewer than three dozen Vectors are said to have been completed. With that sort of scarcity, It's not often that you'll find two of them in the same place, but a car dealer in Ohio currently has a pair of M12s for sale, including the very first "production" model.

In the mid-1990s Wiegert lost control of Vector to the same Indonesian company that bought Lamborghini from Chrysler and later sold it to Audi. During that overlap period, Megatech moved the company to the same Green Cove Springs, Florida industrial park that more recently was reputed to be a staging ground for the UN invasion of America. Megatech took the earlier WX-3 design and wrapped it around what was essentially a modified Lamborghini Diablo powertrain rather than the previous Chevrolet small-block V8 derivative. In other words, the stars-and-stripes patriotism of this particular M12's paint scheme is sadly a bit late for the all-American cheerleading, more ironic than appropriate.

Only 14 M12s were reported to be delivered to customers over a four-year period. After selling Lamborghini to the Germans, the final M12 was refitted with a small-block meant to be offered as the SRV8, but Vector Motors finally imploded before any were sold.

1979 Lotus Esprit with Buick GNX turbo V6 - Click above for high-res image gallery

What happens when you're head over heels for the lethal wedge styling and superb handling of the 1979 Lotus Esprit, but find yourself smitten with the all-out grunt of the turbo 3.8-liter V6 in the Buick GNX? If you're the intrepid creator of the particular car you see above, you mate the two, forging your very own take on the Esprit Turbo. On paper, the mashup seems like a match made in the lofty spires of the Lotus engineering department. Whereas General Motors' conservatively rated 276-horsepower six pot tended to suffer by being bolted into the heavy GNX platform, the lithe Esprit could have always used a bump in power over its smaller four-cylinder. At least one creative soul has opted for a sexier looking Yamaha SHO swap to solve the Esprit's power woes, but we're big fans of this particular recipe.

If your mouth is already watering at the thought of a mid-engine turbo V6 terror, we're about to sweeten the deal. The car is currently for sale, and looks about as mint as mint can be. The engine bay is clean, the paint spotless and the attention to detail unmatched for a Frankenstein creation of this caliber. Perfection? Thy name just might be GNEsprit. The running bid is a shave over $16,000 at the time of writing with the reserve not met, so get to bidding. You just might take this sucker home. Thanks for the tip, Al!

With the Mercury brand set to be confined to the dustbin of history in the next few months, is it worth considering investing in a classic example? We're certainly not going tell you how to spend your money, but today's eBay find might be worthy of consideration. Or not.

Over the course of three decades, the soon-to-be-defunct brand offered three distinctly different versions of the Capri. The original was a compact rear-wheel-drive coupe designed and built in Germany while the last was a Mazda 323-based convertible from Australia.

The second generation example being offered for sale is likely the cleanest, lowest mileage Fox-body car remaining on the planet. Why someone would preserve a 1986 Capri RS 5.0 with only 2,000 miles is a bit of a mystery, but there it is nonetheless. The RS was a mildly restyled version of the Mustang GT and arguably more attractive than the Ford. 1986 was both the first year for the new 200 horsepower fuel-injected 5.0-liter V8 and the last year of production for the Fox-body Capri.

When the Mustang got a refresh for 1987, the Capri was left on the cutting room floor.
