You've never seen a 1981 Yenko Camaro? Maybe that's because only 19 were made and they usually sell for well north of what a new Camaro will cost you from your local Chevrolet dealer.

One gorgeously restored, matching numbers example is up for purchase on eBay Motors for the eye-watering Buy-It-Now price of $180k. But please consider the car's claimed history and stat sheet before passing judgement.

As the legend goes, in 1969, Yenko Chevrolet of Murray, Pennsylvania took a 12-year break from modding Camaros. But low compression '80s engines got under the skin of Don Yenko, and in 1981, the tuning legend proceeded to cram a turbocharged, four-barrel, 350 V8 under the hood of the second-generation car. Horsepower on the rare Yenko is unclear, but it should definitely be way more than the stock Z-28's meager 175 hp. Reports suggest this was to be Yenko's final big build, and the owner of this eBay find says this one is the very last 1981 Yenko produced.

On top of all that, the Charlotte, North Carolina seller says that the car has fewer than 30k miles, some of which were supposedly put there by curious automotive journalists. The winning bidder will get the original build sheet, window sticker and a production intent letter signed by Don Yenko.
eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko Turbo originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 16:01:00 EST.
As a rule, Hurst used to be a company that was more than happy to partner with just about any automaker that walked through the door. While we're plenty familiar with vehicles like the Hurst Oldsmobile 442, more obscure relics like the 1980 Hurst Shawnee International Harvester Scout and this Jeep Jeepster Commando also populate the pages of the company's history books. Details like one very patriotic stripe package, a hood scoop and a hood-mounted tachometer all help set this Jeepster apart from its kin. Of course, a Hurst gated automatic shifter and appropriate badges are also part of the package.

This particular example is up for bid with only a few hours left on the auction. The price has inched up to $7,500 with the reserve still not met. With a shave over 73,000 miles on the odometer and one of the cleanest Jeepster bodies we've ever seen, this particular Commando is a little bit of work away from being a unique museum piece. Head over to eBay Motors for a closer look.
eBay Find of the Day: 1970 Jeep Jeepster Commando Hurst originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:31:00 EST.
UPDATE: Not surprisingly, President Obama's former daily driver failed to sell on eBay Motors with a starting bid of $1 million. The owner reportedly wants to list the car again closer to the presidential election this fall, and may lower the price as well as give some of the proceeds to charity.

History has yet to voice its opinion on the legacy of President Barack Obama, but one enterprising eBay seller is already looking to cash in on one very big piece of Obama memorabilia. A 2005 Chrysler 300C that allegedly belonged to the Commander In Chief (back when he was an Illinois senator) has hit eBay Motors.

As you may recall, Obama sent the big V8 sedan packing in favor of a Ford Escape Hybrid when he began his campaign for the presidency. The 300C currently has 20,800 miles. Obama is said to have put 19,000 of those on the clock himself between 2004 and 2007. With so few miles and a healthy 5.7-liter V8 under the hood, this is likely the nicest 300C you'll ever lay eyes on, but the buyer wants a pretty penny for the machine.

Right now, the vehicle has a starting bid of $1 million. Not surprisingly, even though the seller says he's got the paperwork to prove the vehicle's provenance, no one has stepped up with the coin. As of the time of writing, the auction has less than a day left on the clock. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look at the auction for yourself.
eBay Find of the Day: Barack Obama's 2005 Chrysler 300C [UPDATE] originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 25 Jan 2012 11:01:00 EST.
The Ford Mustang has some strange skeletons knocking bones in its closet, including the Mustero. Believe it or not, the Mustang/Ranchero hybrid you see above was actually a Ford-licensed product. The company authorized Beverly Hills Mustang LTD to produce the machines for just two years.

At the time, the conversion came carrying a price tag of $6,500. That made the Mustero as expensive as the Shelby Cobra. Needless to say, buyers weren't exactly lining up with cash in hand for a pint-sized pickup sports car, and only 50 were ever produced, including this well-restored example.

According to the owner, this '66 Mustero received a complete restoration in the '80s and has been carefully stored indoors since then. A 289-cubic-inch V8 lurks under the hood, mated to a three-speed manual gearbox. Manual steering and brakes are part of the party as well, so be prepared for a work out when it comes time to wheel this machine through town.

The vehicle currently sits with a Buy It Now price of $32,500. Head over to eBay Motors for a look at the listing.
eBay Find of the Day: 1966 Ford Mustang Mustero originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 10:00:00 EST.
The Lamborghini Countach remains the Kleenex of supercars. Its bombastic wedgy shape was so overexposed in the 1980s, it's a wonder it didn't wind up in therapy. As the decade wore on, the Countach picked up more and more plastic surgery, but even so, mid-1980s examples have an unmatched blend of swagger and silliness. And if you're going for a car transported straight out of Tony Montana's seething dreams, don't you want to find the best one?

This black beauty offered for auction is a 1987 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole with just 1,200 miles on the odometer. Countach 5000 QVs benefitted from the car's characteristic V12 being bored and stroked to 5.2-liters, along with the addition of four valves per cylinder (hence the name).

U.S. market cars were unfortunately marred by federal bumpers, which this car also sports. Swing that scissor door up, and you suddenly forget about the silly appendages. Besides, the period-perfect gold phone-dial wheels and tan Connolly leather interior draw your eyes, and a little time with a socket wrench would net you a sleeker, bumperette-free silhouette, anyway.

Current bidding on eBay Motors sits at $130,000, which means this Countach is about the same price now as it was when it first left Sant'Agata - fitting for a car that presents as new as this one. Of course, the reserve price isn't met, so who knows what the seller is hoping to get out of the sale. While we might prefer the design purity (and comparative rarity) of earlier LP400 models, even Countach detractors have to step back and admire this car. It'd be hard to fight the urge to drive this thing everywhere - even milk runs would become an experience.
eBay Find of the Day: 1987 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV is a 1,200-mile time warp originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 15:30:00 EST.
If hopping on a motorcycle isn't thrilling or deadly enough for you anymore, you may want to point your browser toward eBay Motors. The world's first and only twin-pulse-jet-engine motorcycle is officially up for auction. The machine was originally constructed by Robert Maddox for a customer who wanted to try his hand at slipping into the 200-mph club. It's not clear whether the owner had a brief flash of sanity or if he simply found an easier way get his jollies, but the bike is now up for sale with a buy-it-now price of just $25,000.

That's plenty cheap in our eyes. If we had money bleeding out of our ears, we'd snap up the wild machine, which is supposedly based on a 1929 Harley-Davidson flat-track racer (we imagine that might just mean modeled after...), and park it in our living room. The seller says the bike rides straight and, not surprisingly, is plenty quick. Head over to eBay Motors to check out the auction for yourself.
eBay Find of the Day: Twin jet-engine board track Harley-Davidson originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 09 Nov 2011 19:29:00 EST.
Some concept cars don't die off into the unknown oblivion of some random unmarked warehouse. Instead, they just fade into eBay Motors. The 1994 Ford Power Stroke Concept is the latest refugee from the show circuit that has shown up on everyone's favorite auction site.

Originally designed to show off the Ford Power Stroke diesel engine, the bulbous and somewhat homely concept is about as aesthetically far from any full-size truck as it gets. The seller says the vehicle functions as it should and comes with the custom wheels and tires that it rolled onto the stage with way back when. Apparently the show electronics are also included in the deal.

Unfortunately, this machine isn't registered as a street vehicle and likely never will be. As such, the winning bidder will receive a bill of sale. As of the time of writing, the truck has six days left on the auction with zero bids and a $40,000 starting bid. Head over to eBay Motors to check out the auction for yourself.
eBay Find of the Day: 1994 Ford Power Stroke Concept originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:31:00 EST.
We've come to expect varying levels of insanity from eBay Motors. The site is like a magnet for the one-off, the strange and the bizarre, which is part of why we love it. This machine is no different. Based on an unspecified 1974 Lincoln, the vehicle has received a full cosmetic makeover in the image of a Bugatti. Which Bugatti? The owner isn't saying, but there's no mistaking what lurks behind that big hoop grille as a French creation.

Now, we typically cringe at the over-application of fiberglass in any custom vehicle, which is part of what makes this Bug/Lincoln hybrid unique. The owner says that each body panel is crafted from aluminum, meaning that there are no seams, cracks, or, for that matter, rust. While not to our tastes, this creative rebody seems to have been done to a significantly higher standard than most of these sorts of misadventures. Either way, it isn't immediately clear if this is a one-off, or if someone built a small run of these things.

Inside, the interior has been given the mohair treatment along with a set of "European gauges." The castrated 460-cubic-inch V8 from the Lincoln is still tucked behind the headlights, but the engine is now concealed by a butterfly hood which should make working on the lump even more difficult than before. Wonders never cease. Head over to eBay Motors for a closer look. As of the time of writing, the auction carries a Buy It Now price of $39,950, but prospective buyers are welcome to make an offer.
eBay Find of the Day: 1974 Lincoln-based 'Bugatti' is a piece of work originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 16:56:00 EST.
We have no qualms admitting that we miss the first-generation Toyota MR2. The spry little mid-engined racer was proof that you didn't need a summer house on the cape to enjoy a perfectly balanced, lightweight sports car. Of course, with its accessible price tag, it's no surprise that very few MR2 models survived without encountering substantial neglect or abuse. That's what makes this supercharged, 1989 gem particularly attractive. With a shave under 22,000 miles on the odometer, all of the factory paperwork and accessories, this machine is bone stock as close to mint as you're likely to find in the wild.

The seller is the original owner and says that he's sending the MR2 on its way because he's focusing his efforts on maintaining a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that he also bought new. Different strokes for different folks, we guess. If you've got $20,000 lying around with nothing better to do, you can pick up the the 1989 Toyota MR2 in South Windsor, Connecticut at its Buy It Now price, or you can just bid in hopes you meet the reserve.
Justin Bell and eBay Motors have teamed up for a new web-based car show called, fittingly enough, "The World's Fastest Car Show." The premise is pretty straight-forward, with Bell taking to the wheel of some piece of drool-worthy metal in the first half of the show before heading off to an event in the latter half. The inaugural episode features a stint in the delicious Ford Mustang Boss 302 on Mulholland Drive as well as a stop in at Pebble Beach for a peak at the concept lawn.

Bell spends some time with a variety of concepts before deciding that the electrified Porsche 918 RSR is the belle of that particular ball. Race fans will likely recognize Bell as the same champion race driver who has campaigned at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA GT series. "The World's Fastest Car Show" will debut a new episode each week. Hit the jump to check out the first episode for yourself.
Continue reading eBay Motors launches World's Fastest Car Show with Justin Bell

eBay Motors launches World's Fastest Car Show with Justin Bell originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 19:59:00 EST.
Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.

The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.
eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 18:30:00 EST.
There are many Batmobile replicas in the world, but only one of them is powered by a legitimate turbine engine. Casey Putsch is the proud owner and creator of that particular beast - a Keaton-era Batmobile powered by the same Boeing turboshaft engine found in the likes of a Navy drone helicopter. Now Putsch is putting his creation up for sale, and if you're the ultimate Batman aficionado, you'll need this machine in your collection. You'll also need to be fabulously wealthy, as the vehicle carries a buy-it-now price of $620,000.

Typically, this is where we rattle off the number of lust-worthy exotics you could own for the same stack of cash, but we can't quite bring ourselves to line this machine up against the rest of the motoring world. Maybe it's nostalgia or the fact that the Putsch's machine pegs the awesome meter in a way few other hand-built vehicles do. Besides, what figure would you put on a one-of-a-kind, U.S. Navy-powered crime-fighting apparatus? Hit the jump to check out a video of the Batmobile in action and head over to eBay Motors to take a look at the auction.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: Own the world's only turbine-powered Batmobile for $660K [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: Own the world's only turbine-powered Batmobile for $660K [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Aug 2011 09:29:00 EST.
We have something of a hard time applying the term "hot rod" to the Caresto T6 R. The unusual Volvo-based retro one-off has simply transcended the art. Whereas most builders start with chassis manufactured by one of the illustrious Big Three, the T6 R is a clean-sheet design with a mid-engine turbocharged I6 swiped from the XC90 that puts power to the rear wheels via a five-speed Geartronic transmission. With a handcrafted aluminum body and a removable polycarbonate roof, the machine is better executed than most auto show concepts. We aren't alone in that assessment, either. Conceived by Leif Tufvesson, a former Volvo and Koeniggsegg development man, Hot Rod Magazine famously called this Caresto one of the "most spectacularly-crafted hot rods to ever grace the pages of this or any other magazine."

Big praise.

Now the Caresto T6 R is up for sale via the miracle of eBay Motors. The Swedish machine has racked up bids of over $23,000 as of the time of writing with just over three days left on the clock, though the reserve has yet to be met (and is probably far higher). If you're skittish about purchasing a vehicle based in Sweden, the seller assures would-be buyers that he'll be happy to help arrange shipping. You can check out the auction by cruising over to eBay Motors, and learn more about the Caresto and how it came to be by watching the Fifth Gear Europe video after the jump.
Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: Caresto T6 Roadster, 2004 Hot Rod of the Year [w/video]

eBay Find of the Day: Caresto T6 Roadster, 2004 Hot Rod of the Year [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 15:30:00 EST.
Another day, another story of a dealership refusing to honor an eBay Motors transaction. (It seems these tales pop up at least once each quarter.) Today's adventure in online car shopping comes courtesy of Xou Vang of Anchorage, Alaska, who was the winner of a 2009 Nissan GT-R, with a top bid of $55,100. That's a pretty good deal on a supercar with only 36,069 miles showing on the odometer. Honda of San Marcos in Texas thinks so, too, which is why it's refusing to sell the car to Vang for the amount of his winning bid.

This was a No-Reserve Auction. Those of you reading at home will understand what that means, but the dealership clearly does not. In fact, Honda of San Marcos wants Vang to pay $59,000 for the 2009 GT-R, instead of the $55,100 that the now-closed auction calls for.

Xou Vang is turning to the Internet for help, because the dealership is stonewalling him. When Vang was lucky enough to speak to someone there, he was told that the auction was a mistake and his winning bid will not be honored. Apparently, this particular dealership has never seen Internet justice at its finest. Remember the BMW dealer who tried to pull the same stunt? It ended up relenting, and we would be surprised if Honda of San Marcos doesn't do the same. It made a $3,900 mistake, but the dealership should remain held accountable for the error. Situations like these make us wish eBay Motors would move to suspend dealer accounts when they behave like this.

You can follow his saga on the My350Z.com forums.

UPDATE: The dealership in question has reached out to our friends at Motor Authority, and it seems it's none to happy about the way it's being "portrayed." In fact, Honda of San Marcos is threatening Motor Authority with a lawsuit. Head over there for the full account from Nelson Ireson, who is an editor for MA and just happens to be a lawyer himself.

UPDATE 2: The dealership has relented and agreed to sell the GT-R to Vang for $55,100.
Is the Acura Legend a bit too "Asian" for your late-80's tastes? Perhaps you're attracted to its 2.7-liter V6, but not the packaging surrounding it. Your love for Fawlty Towers, Manchester United and Winston Churchill push you towards an automobile that lets everyone know you prefer the Union Jack to the Stars and Stripes. Well, we've found your next car, and you can Buy It Now for a mere pence under four grand.

A former unidentified automotive journalist has decided to part with his Sterling 827SLi (sadly, he's not an Autoblog scribe, or we'd have smacked him until he came to his senses). The rare five-door in question was a former member of Sterling's press fleet here in the States, and it's claimed to be the last one ever sold in the States. 150,000 miles or so later, it can be a proud part of your fleet.

In case you don't remember, Sterling was a U.S. automobile company produced by Austin Rover Cars North America, the U.S. arm of British carmaker Rover. Engines (and in truth, most of the car beneath the skin) was supplied through a partnership with Honda, with the 827SLi you see here benefited from the same mill stuck under the hood as the Acura Legend. Unlike the Legend, which was arguably a paragon of precision and reliability in its day, Sterling's reputation for build quality stood in opposition to its Japanese roots. Leave it to the British to make a Japanese car unreliable.

The Sterling legacy in America only lasted from 1987 to 1992, and most of the cars that were produced were the more conventional 825 sedan, not this comparatively rare 827SLi liftback. Toward the end of its run, Sterling products actually began to improve a bit, but it was too late in the minds of American car buyers. It's not too late for you though, so head over to eBay Motors to check out what is probably the finest example of this dying breed while it lasts.
eBay Find of the Day: Last Rover 827SLi sold in America? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 16:30:00 EST.
We're glad to see that Mercury vehicles are continuing to make themselves useful even after the brand's demise. One enterprising soul in Palm Bay, Florida took it upon himself to craft another 2002 Mercury Cougar into the image of a Bugatti Veyron. The project took Mike Duff around nine months to complete, including all of the exterior body work and slathering the interior with leather. Outside, the body is stitched from plenty of fiberglass and composites on a steel tube frame, and the finished product looks pretty similar to a legitimate Veryon.

Unfortunately, the vehicle's drivetrain won't be setting any world records anytime soon; the car still uses the same beating heart as the 2002 Cougar. The 2.5-liter V6 is good for 170 ponies - a far cry from the nearly 1,000 horsepower available from the legendary W16 in the Veyron.

There are a few plusses, however. For one, Duff's creation can seat four people comfortably, and we're guessing it costs significantly less to own and operate. Speaking of price tags, this faux-Bugatti can be yours for the princely sum of $89,000. Check it out on eBay Motors.
eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Cougar-turned-Veyron replica for $89K originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 07:59:00 EST.
July 8 is National Collector's Car day, and to celebrate, eBay Motors is hosting an auction that should break the site's record for the most expensive vehicle ever sold through the site. One of the nine remaining General Motors Futurliners is set to fetch millions of dollars on the site as its auction runs from June 8 to 18.

This particular example has been meticulously restored by Peter Pan Bus Lines over a total of three years. The 400-horsepower leviathan is 33 feet long and just shy of 12 feet tall. When it was built for the 1939 New York World's Fair, it cost GM around $2 million in today's dollars. (Those of you with long memories may recall that a similar example shattered Barrett-Jackson records when it hammered at $4.1M in 2006).

After the World's Fair, the 12 Futurliners toured the U.S. under the "Parade of Progress" banner, showing the nation the technology of, well, the future. Each bus opened up to display the science behind microwaves, jet propulsion and the like. This particular example was exhumed from a New York corn field in 1997 before being massaged back to life by Coach Builders of Springfield, Massachusetts.

The bidding starts tonight at 9pm Eastern, but for now, you can head over to eBay Motors to learn more about National Collector's Car Day.
Multi-million dollar GMC Futurliner to be auctioned by eBay Motors originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 13:01:00 EST. 2012 Lexus LFA for sale - Click above for high-res image gallery

If you have an issue with the fact that Lexus is going to make you lease an LFA instead of letting you outright buy the vehicle, we've got good news for you. Sort of. Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon, MA is selling one of the carbon-fiber supercars for some very wealthy, very lucky individual to have and to hold as their own.

What's the hitch? Unsurprisingly, there are a couple of them. We spoke with the dealer, and according to them, before the title changes hands, the new owner will need to sign a first right of refusal contract with Lexus. If the buyer takes the car home and decides to sell it in the first two years, the automaker gets dibs on buying the car back. (Before you cry foul, note that Ferrari has made similar stipulations in hopes of keeping flipping and price gouging on its hot new models for some time now).

The supercar is dipped in sexy copper (Pearl Brown?) paint with a matching saddle interior, and there are a mere six miles on the clock. According to the dealer, the original orderer of the car came in to inspect it, got a walk-around with Lexus' LFA-specific expert who was on-hand to assist, briefly drove it and then decided he would let someone else purchase it.

So... how much will the sales team at Herb Chambers ask for the pleasure of ownership? How does $389,900 grab you? At that price, by our calculations, the would-be buyer is basically paying Lexus 24 months of lease payments up front, plus the balloon payment at the end to buy the car outright. Still interested?
We've always thought that if we'd managed to marry above our station, the first thing we would have done with our spouse's money would be to buy three or four identical cars and a meandering stretch of pavement. Friday night with the guys would suddenly become Friday night at the track with the guys with the winner taking ultimate bragging rights.

Now that dream is a little closer to reality. The entirety of the Don Swanson racing school has cropped up on eBay Motors, complete with a full semi, four EJ Honda Civic racers and a Dodge Grand Caravan.

If you're playing the "which one doesn't belong game," we'll give you a hint; it's not the Civic race cars or the semi.

All four of the Civics look to be DX models with five-speed manual gearboxes and non-VTEC D15 single-overhead cam lumps under the hood. That means there's likely way more grip on hand than power, which is the perfect recipe for some confidence-building on-track hijinks. Each of the racers come equipped with plenty of safety equipment and more than a few performance bolt-ons, and the auction even includes all the suits, helmets and gloves you'd need to stay reasonably protected. The buy-it now price sits at a somewhat reasonable $79,000 or best offer, so get to clicking.
eBay Find of the Day: Honda racing school in a box originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 18:59:00 EST.
If you're anything like us, trolling eBay Motors for cars you can only hope to one day own is like teeth brushing or hair combing - you could go without it for a day, but it wouldn't be a very good day. Thankfully, the chances of that happening have just dropped to nothing with this week's introduction of the eBay Motors iPhone app [iTunes link]. Sure, eBay itself has had an iPhone app for a while, but it's a PiTA to use if you're just looking for cars.

What we like about the new eBay Motors iPhone app is that it's designed around how we use eBay Motors' website. The app will of course let you search eBay Motors' big database of vehicles and parts for sale, but it also has an area of the app called the Garage. This is where you input both the vehicles you own (My Vehicles) and the vehicles you want to own (Dream Vehicles), making it easy to search for either with the flick of a finger. One slick feature is that you can add vehicles to your Garage by using the iPhone's camera to scan a VIN barcode, which is usually located on the inside of the driver's door.

There are some things we'd like eBay Motors to fix with the app's first update, mainly that the app's search parameters are so limited. For instance, when filling the app's Garage with cars, you have to input a specific Year, Make and Model, which means you can't, for instance, claim an entire generation of vehicle as a Dream Vehicle you want to own, just one particular model year. Likewise, you also can't dig deeper and pick a particular trim, which means my own vehicle, a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO, shows up in My Vehicles as just a 1991 Ford Taurus, making a search for the right parts damn near possible.

That said, we're still happy that eBay Motors finally has its own iPhone app and hope the team behind its development will take a serious look at the limitations we mentioned. Click here to check it out in iTunes, and why not download the new Autoblog.com app while you're at it.
Continue reading eBay Motors finally gets its own iPhone app

eBay Motors finally gets its own iPhone app originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 17 May 2011 17:29:00 EST.
