<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/mika+hakkinen/">Mika H&auml;kkinen</a> is a two-time <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/formula+one">Formula One</a> World Champion. He's also from Finland, which means the man knows how to drive regardless of weather conditions. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-">Mercedes-Benz</a> has tapped him to star in a new ad touting its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/4matic">4Matic</a> all-wheel drive system. <br />
<br />
In the clip, H&auml;kkinen is on a snowy road in an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/e-class">E350</a> wagon when be comes upon an old SL. The driver of the SL is not moving fast enough for Mika, and upon passing the droptop, he is greeted with the face of a familiar foe. We don't want to spoil it for you, so <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/27/video-mercedes-benz-pits-old-foes-against-each-other-for-new-ad/#continued">hop the jump</a> and watch Mercedes-Benz's "Sunday Driver" clip. <br />

<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-2010-2011-mercedes-benz-e350-4matic-wagon/#24"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/03/24-2011-e-class-wagon-us-jumpseat.jpg" alt="" /></a>With a refreshed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/31/mercedes-r-class-2011-new-york-2010/">R-Class</a> debuting this morning and a general understanding that most automakers think Americans prefer trucks to wagons, it was a bit of a pleasant surprise to find <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> taking the wraps off a U.S. market 2011 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/e-class">E350</a> 4Matic Wagon here at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/new-york-auto-show/">2010 New York Auto Show</a> today. When we first saw this estate at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>, we were told not to expect an American showing of the vehicle. Well, Mercedes has apparently had a change of heart as they debuted the wagon, and in 4Matic trim no less.<br />
<br />
The E-Class Wagon joins the thoroughly revised sedan and coupe variants of Merc's mid-sizer and shares much of their styling outside and in. The one big difference obviously is the wagon back, which looks very handsome to our two-box-lovin' eyes. There's also the surprise of available jump seats in the "way-back," which pop out of the floor of the cargo area and go back-to-back with the rear bench, giving the little ones a great view of traffic behind them. The outgoing model had them as an option as well, but we can't think of any other U.S. cars that still sell these rear-facing "way back" seats.<br />
<br />
Mercedes is only bringing the E350 4Matic version of the E-wagon for now, although hope springs eternal that an E63 AMG Wagon might be in the cards eventually, even if it's only a special-order item like the last one was. For now, there are a whole batch of live shots from New York along with a press release after the jump.<br />

<br />
Convertibles have long been something of an acquired taste. Devotees steadfastly defend the unique sensation of elemental motoring that can only come when plugged in to one's surrounding breezes, noises and smells. Conversely, detractors have traditionally lambasted droptops for their lackluster foul weather performance, added weight, vulnerability, and creaky, ill-handling platforms. And while the naysayers may have had a point in the era of tonneau-covered British roadster pilots with their tepid heaters, dubious structural rigidity and leaky, masochistic roof mechanisms, modern topless numbers like this 2011 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mercedes-benz/e-class">Mercedes-Benz E-Class</a> Cabriolet give lie to the idea that convertibles make lousy year-round companions.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 Sedan - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
A November Nor'Easter had chewed its way up to New England, delivering a cataclysmic combination of rain and wind as we headed out on a late-night errand. Normally, such a prospect requires a potent blend of Italian roast and <a href="http://krank2o.com/">Krank20</a> to stay hyper alert. Instead, behind the helm of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic, the going was serene and confident. In a word: Wow. <br />
<br />
These moments of vehicular astonishment have thinned out in the last two decades. Just look around at the automotive landscape. Even more modest conveyances are kitted out like luxury cars of yore, packing tons of tech and safety features that were once the exclusive purview of the world's well-to-do. Can anything be impressive anymore? As a matter of fact, yes. The E350, as it strafed along the pavement, solid as granite and ready for anything, made us feel like true <em>kaisers of the strasse</em>. Horsepower-addicted auto reviewers have complained that the 3.5-liter V6 needs more spinach. Fine. You want speed, spring for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-mercedes-benz-e63-amg-says-ich-bin-ein-monster/">AMG E63</a> and shut up. But for the above-average family man, the E350 manages to transcend its asthmatic lungs, soft-spoken tiller and supple feet to foment serious respect, if not outright desire.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Mercedes Benz ConceptFASCINATION - click for high-res gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> German automakers have apparently all developed <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyphosis">kyphosis</a>, as witnessed by the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, the impending Audi A7 Sportback, and the Porsche Panamera. It seems the time is right for humpty-backed automobiles from Deutschland. Mercedes used the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/">ConceptFASCINATION</a> to spearhead the launch of its redesigned E-Class, and while it got everyone all excited during auto show season in 2008, few thought it would amount to anything productiony. That's all changed now. Sure, there are wagons; it's hard to name a more proper Estate Car than the E-Class wagon; but that's not the brass ring everyone seems to be stretching for here. <br /> <br /> Expected at the next <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a> in October 2010, Autointernationaal reports that a new CLS will debut with the expected rakish form - as well as a shooting brake version. While we're all ogling pictures of the fetching three-door concept shown above, the production version is expected to carry four doors and a liftgate. While the show vehicle is fetching with its paucity of points of entry, four doors are apparently important for interesting the Asian market. Don't think of this rumored model as a replacement for anything else utilitarian in the Mercedes lineup; the CLS Brake is unlikely to usurp the R-Class and its unsalability. Rather, it will offer another stylish option in a package that is more car than bus. The world could do with more brakes - shoot on, we say. <br /> <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x">Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/00_mbfascination_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/01_mbfascination_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/02_mbfascination_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/03_mbfascination_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/04_mbfascination_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination">Paris 2008: Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_conceptfascparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_conceptfascparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_conceptfascparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_conceptfascparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/04_conceptfascparis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;layout=1&amp;eotf=1&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autointernationaal.nl%2Fartikel.php%3Fid%3D13590&amp;sl=nl&amp;tl=en">Autointernationaal.nl</a> (Google Translated)]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/22/rumormill-mercedes-benz-cls-shooting-brake-in-the-works/">Rumormill: Mercedes-Benz CLS shooting brake in the works?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 22 Dec 2009 17:58:00 EST. <br /> There are few people in this world for whom we hold more contempt than European bureaucrats. They're the pencil-pushers that, if they had their way, would put an end to some of our favorite exotic sportscars and have us all driving Smart ForTwos. But every gray cloud has its silver lining, and in the case of Belgium's bureaucracy, is the sneak peak we get from time to time when a carmaker files its designs to register them as trademarks.<br /> <br /> What we're looking at this time is the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabrio. Although there were rumors that the model could be delayed, by and large we knew this was coming, and have even seen plenty spy shots of test mules preparing for their market launch.<br /><br /> Replacing the outgoing CLK convertible, this new model is based on the slick new E-Class coupe but, you know...with a convertible roof. It's a fabric job, unlike its rivals from BMW, Lexus, Infiniti and Volvo, which have all gone with folding hard-tops by now. The mechanicals are otherwise expected to carry over from its fixed-roof counterpart, although the jury's still out on whether an AMG version will be on offer as well. For now, we'll just have to peruse these grainy black-and-white images until the new drop-top Benz drops in the first half of next year.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images">2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class convertible trademark filing images</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/8957963_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/6152410_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/5164206_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/3269860_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible-trademark-filing-images/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/1657779_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/10/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-convertible.html">CarScoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/spy-shots-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-cabrio-leaks-out-courtesy/">Spy Shots: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabrio leaks out courtesy EU bureaucracy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 14:00:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 E Class wagon testing in Namibia</small></strong></em> - <em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery </small></strong></em></div>
<br />We find it cool that carmakers cart their rides all over the globe to carry out the most brutal testing in the most out of the way places. They must find it a little frustrating, however, that car mavens with cameras and internet connections lurk in even in the most remote locations . <br /><br />According to AB reader Tom, he spotted a pair of lightly-camoed Mercedes-Benz <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/23/mercedes-benz-e-class-wagon-convertible-coming-to-frankfurt/">E-Class wagons</a> and a sedan "on the desert gravel roads between Walvis Bay and Solitaire in Namibia." The wagons are getting ready for their debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Auto-Show/">Frankfurt Auto Show</a> in a few months, and if the tailpipe application is accurate then the black one is likely a V8 - and yes, this does mean we want a blacked-out wagon E550 wagon. You can check out high-res pics of the trio below. <em>Thanks for the images, Tom!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia">2010 E Class Wagon in Namibia</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01_merc_wgn_namb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02_merc_wgn_namb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03_merc_wgn_namb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04_merc_wgn_namb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-e-class-wagon-in-namibia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05_merc_wgn_namb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/06/reader-spy-best-look-yet-at-forthcoming-mercedes-e-class-wagon/">Reader Spy: Best look yet at forthcoming Mercedes E-Class wagon arrives from Namibia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 06 Jun 2009 18:03:00 EST. <br />As if you needed any more proof between European and American cinematic viewing tastes, this one also a reasonable demonstration of the different perceptions of Mercedes in the U.S. versus residents of The Continent. <br />With eight generations and 12 million units sold over the last 62 years, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class' longevity represents a profound run of intelligent bets for a premium sedan sold in premium quantities. That makes Las Vegas an appropriate background for last week's introduction of the E-Class sedan, Sin City being home to numerous examples of remarkable endurance. Having been outsold by the BMW 5 Series for the last couple of years in the U.S., Mercedes went all-in on the new E, from design to fabrication to luxury to - of course - technology. To find out what we thought of the gamble, hit the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class">First Drive: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/000_eclass_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/005_eclass_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/001_eclass_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/002_eclass_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/003_eclass_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Jonathon Ramsey / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/05/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-still-a-solid-bet-with-e/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class still a solid bet with excellent returns</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/05/first-drive-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-still-a-solid-bet-with-e/">First Drive: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class still a solid bet with excellent returns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 11:58:00 EST. <br />It's no great secret that the European Union's patent office has more leaks than a Soviet submarine, but up until now it's only been small cars that have been able to trickle out (see: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/13/eu-patent-office-leaks-2009-mazda-mx-5-facelift/">facelifted Mazda MX-5</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/leaked-nissan-370z-roadster-patent-drawings/">Nissan 370Z Roadster</a>). But the dam seems to be giving way as a whole Mercedes limousine has managed to squeeze though and into the public realm, and our European compatriots at Autoblog Spanish have got the sketches to prove it.<br /><br />Like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/13/thats-a-stretch-mercedes-e-class-limo-spied/">spy shots we've seen before</a>, these patent sketches provide further proof that Mercedes is preparing to launch a stretched Pullman version of its new E-Class. Several extension options are apparently being prepared, ranging from a modest wheelbase extension all the way up to a full extra set of doors. Expect all manner of luxury equipment to find its way into the enlarged cabin, from entertainment systems and courtesy lighting to power reclining seats and fold-down picnic tables for that ultimate Grey Poupon experience. <em>Click the thumbnails below to view the patent drawings in high resolution.</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e">Mercedes-Benz Clase E Pullman (OAMI)</a></strong></p><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://es.autoblog.com/photos/filtraci-n-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-gen-ticos-con-el-clase-e/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/clase_e_limu__filt_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://es.autoblog.com/2009/04/30/filtracion-mercedes-y-sus-experimentos-geneticos-con-el-clase-e/">Autoblog Spanish</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/04/mercedes-benz-e-class-pullman-drawings-leak-from-european-patent/">Mercedes-Benz E-Class Pullman drawings leak from European patent office</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 09:27:00 EST. We'll have to spend some time with that sculpted flank in person just to make sure, but in pictures, the former E-Class and CLK have successfully come together in the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/10/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-revealed-ahead-of-geneva/">E-Class sedan</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/23/unofficially-yours-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-coupe-images-leak/">E-Class Coupe</a>. It could also be the third best translation of the design language that began with the S-Class (the C-Class is second), leaving the CL-Class a distinctive-yet-distant fourth. We'd imagine the E-Class Coupe is set for a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NewYork/">New York</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaAutoShow/">Geneva Auto Show</a> unveiling, where we can inspect it thoroughly.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.motorpasion.com%2F2009%2F01%2F26-mas-imagenes-del-mercedes-benz-clase-e-coupe">MotorPasion</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/spy-shots-mercedes-benz-e-class-coupe-caught-in-the-buff/">Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz E-class coupe caught in the buff</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 10:01:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />After various reports and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/07/new-mercedes-benz-e-class-brochure-scans-hit-the-web/">some leaked images</a>, M-B took the wraps off the the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010MercedesBenzEClass/">2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class</a> at a private event in Detroit. While the new E won't make its public debut until March at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, we were on hand in Motown to get the details straight from the company that Karl Benz built.<br /><br />We've said plenty about the E's new conservative sheetmetal and exterior elements, including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/10/mercedes-benz-conceptfascination-previews-new-e-class/">ConceptFASCINATION</a>-inspired front-end and sedate, uninspired rump. Depending on spec, the new E-class will feature either twin foglamps or angular LEDs, trapezoidal or oval exhaust tips and a host of wheel options. The overall length has been stretched by half an inch to just under 16 feet, while the width has grown by 1.26 inches, the wheelbase is up 0.8-inches and height is half-an-inch taller than the outgoing model. Torsional rigidity is up by 30% and the new E is more aerodynamic, along with packing 11 standard airbags.<br /><br />The 2010 model shows considerable promise inside, with an interior that evolves the C-class and GLK's angular aesthetic and attempts to bring more of that bomb-proof feel that Benz was known for in the past. The transmission selector can be had on either the console or the steering column, ala S-class, with the COMAND controller placed on the center divider and some of the seat controls moving to the sides, next to the transmission tunnel.<br /><br />The new E features enough gadgetry to sooth even the most weary CES attendee, beginning with a new standard system called Attention Assist that keeps track of steering angle and alerts the driver if they're getting drowsy with an audible alert and a coffee-cup icon on the dash. Lane departure warning is optional, along with adaptive high-beam headlights that dim when oncoming traffic is approaching, radar-based cruised control, blind-spot monitoring and infrared night vision. <br /><br />When the 2010 E-class goes on sale this summer, buyers can choose from either a direct-injected, 292-hp 3.5-liter V6 (E350) or a 388-hp 5.5-liter V8 (E500), both mated to a standard seven-speed automatic gearbox. 4MATIC models will arrive later, along with the E63 variant, and the 211 hp, 3.0-liter Bluetech diesel variant with urea injection is slated to go on sale at the end of the year.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class">Detroit 2009: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E Class</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010-e-class-1280-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010-e-class-1280-23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010-e-class-1280-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010-e-class-1280-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010-e-class-1280-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class">2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/08c1092_03-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/08c1092_05-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/08c1092_14-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/08c1142_006-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/08c1142_036-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Live Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/10/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-revealed-ahead-of-geneva/">2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class revealed ahead of Geneva</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 22:30:00 EST. The camouflage, cladding, and low profile tires made it seem deceptively sleek. Now that we've seen pictures of the regular E Class wagon, we're not so sure. There are two swage lines along the sides, but without any other curvature or those nifty <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/paris-2008-mercedes-benz-conceptfascination/">ConceptFascination</a>-esque haunches, they can't break up the impression of acres of metal. It just looks huge. Even so, we're still upset we don't get it here, and with a trailer hitch, even...<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://globalmotors.net/2010-mercedes-benz-e-class-estate-spied-less-disguised/">Global Motors</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/28/spy-shots-e-class-wagon/">Spy Shots: E-Class wagon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 13:33:00 EST. First <em>Autobild</em> came out with bare naked <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/rendered-or-official-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/">shots of the 2009 E-Class</a>, and now German magazine <em>Auto Zeitung</em> has more shots of the car getting some fresh air.<br /><br />With a minimal front end and a profile that rises seemingly without arc to a chunky back end, the car is reminiscent of a stretched Alfa Romeo Milano. We aren't sure how big these wheels are, but the car's increased upright stance makes them look exceptionally small. As usual with the launch of revolutionary E-Class designs, the car could take some time to get used to, but by the time E-Classes are clogging roads worldwide they will look perfectly natural.<br /><br />There will be some excitement in the engine choices, including a 204 hp turbodiesel Bluetec, a BlueHybrid lump shared with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/17/mercedes-benz-s400-bluehybrid-unveiled/">S400</a>, and a 550 hp V8 in the AMG. The new E will also benefit from closer association with its spin-offs. Now that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/12/mercedes-cl-and-clk-names-say-auf-wiedesehen/">CLK is no more</a>, the E sedan will receive more of the spotlight that shines on its coupe and convertible siblings. If Mercedes doesn't get tired of the clandestine attention, we'll see the sedan for the first time at the 2009 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, with the other variants to follow at Frankfurt that same year.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://autozeitung.de/online/render.php?render=0147010">Auto Zeitung</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/spy-shots-2009-mercedes-e-class/">Spy Shots: 2009 Mercedes E-Class</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 10:29:00 EST. However, based on the various reports we've seen over the past year, these images of the E-class are spot on, if not official pics from M-B.<br /><br /><a href="benzinsider.com/2008/08/autobild-publishes-first-official-pictures-of-the-2010-e-class/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="left" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/mercedes-benz_e-class_first_official_pictures_side_250op2.jpg" alt="" /></a>The new front fascia is an interesting amalgamation of the C- and S-class' front ends, with an upright grille framed by two-piece headlamps, a sculpted front bumper and LED indicators. The sides of the new E incorporate a C-class-inspired swage line, while the rear taillights wrap half-way around the fenders.<br /><br /><em>Autobild</em> reports that the new E-class will be unveiled in March, so expect to get all the details from Geneva next year. Sales will likely begin in Europe next summer, with the U.S. model arriving shortly thereafter.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2008/08/14/eerste-afbeeldingen-van-de-nieuwe-e-klasse">Autoblog.nl</a> via <a href="http://benzinsider.com/2008/08/autobild-publishes-first-official-pictures-of-the-2010-e-class/">BenzInsider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/rendered-or-official-2010-mercedes-benz-e-class/">Rendered or official? 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 14:27:00 EST. The prototype is unmistakably M-B, with a new front fascia that appears to split the difference between the swoop CLS's headlamps and the more conservative eyes of the C- and S-class. Underneath the cloaked sheet metal is Mercedes' new W212 mid-size sedan platform, which ditches the electronic braking system of the last generation (Benz dealers rejoice!) in favor of conventional hydraulic stoppers, and utilizes a four-link front suspension and a multi-link rear arrangement coupled with M-B's Active Body Control (ABC) system. Naturally, there will be gizmos galore, including a new electronic road sign reading system, night-vision pulled from the S-class and a host of gasoline- and diesel-powered engines that will top out with the 6.2-liter V8 from AMG.<br /><br />According to <em>Car</em>, the new E will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March, with sales beginning later that summer.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Mercedes-E63-AMG-2009/?R=EPI-6049&amp;content-block=0">Car</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/12/spy-shots-2009-mercedes-benz-e63/">Spy Shots: 2009 Mercedes-Benz E63</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 May 2008 16:28:00 EST. The C-Class has established some new familial cues with its recent redesign, and Autocar is reporting that the E-Class will expand on those themes. Tauter, edgier, and crisper are the words used to describe the new look, and Autocar's rendering certainly backs up its statement. The attendant increase in bulk that seems to plague each new generation will hopefully be held in check by further use of weight-saving construction techniques and materials. <br /><br />Powering the new E-Class will be the 3.5-liter V6 with direct injection (E35), as well as newly revised V8s. Based on the current 4.5- and 5.5-liter V8s (M273), the new versions will pick up direct injection, as well as efficiency and performance tweaks. More exciting, perhaps, will be a hybrid model by 2010, and BLUETEC diesels. With a mileage target of 47 mpg, the hybrid is not likely to follow the "V12 performance with V8 consumption" model of the Lexus LS, but will still do that Benz thing; get you there stylishly ,safe and comfortably cosseted. <br /><br />[Source: Autocar, Rendering: DeLuisi]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/16/new-mercedes-e-class-coming-this-september/">New Mercedes E-Class coming this September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 16 Dec 2007 10:35:00 EST. A phased roll-out in other markets will get under way in the coming months.<br /><br />The E-Class is Mercedes-Benz's second biggest model line, selling over 1 million units for the previous version, which debuted in early 2002. It is the biggest selling "business car" in Europe, dominating the segment with a 30 percent share in Europe and a 38 percent share in the German market.<br /><br />The E-Class is being promoted as the safest vehicle in its segment, with Mercedes Benz's PRE-SAFE system offered as standard equipment. (The PRE-SAFE system automatically activates safety measures for the driver and front seat passenger when it determines that an accident is imminent.) Optional safety equipment includes Mercedes' Intelligent Light System.<br /><br />A unique promotional event for the new car is planned for October, when a fleet of 33 diesel vehicles begin a road trip leave the Paris Motor Show headed for Beijing. With a mind-boggling 29 model variants - 16 sedans and 13 estates - Mercedes-Benz aims to blanket the
E-Class's market segment with greater variety and more features than any of its competitors.<br /><br />Touting the new
E-Class as the safest vehicle in its class, Mercedes-Benz has incorporated a host of safety features, including its
PRE-SAFE system which activates safety systems when it anticipates an accident, and electronically-controlled NECK-PRO
headrests, both included as standard.
