<br />
Following the release of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/ducati-launches-hypermotard-796-prices-it-below-10k/">$9,995 Hypermotard 796</a>, it was pretty obvious that Ducati would have some updating to do on its bigger 1100cc brother. After all, with a power-to-weight ratio within spitting distance, it seemed tough to justify the price increase for the bigger model. Not surprisingly, then, Ducati has just released all the details on the 2010 Hypermotard 1100, and it's got all the right boxes checked: 15 pounds lighter, five more horsepower and an $11,995 starting price.<br />
<br />
The new base 1100 is now called the EVO, and it weighs 379 pounds dry and puts out 95 horsepower and 76 lb-ft of torque. New vacuum-cast engine cases join a magnesium alternator cover, a superbike-spec flywheel from the 848 and rare-earth magnets in the generator assembly help the latest Desmodue engine drop 11.5 pounds. Like the smaller 796, the new EVO eschews the previously-forged chassis bits for lighter pieces without sacrificing performance.<br />
<br />
Also new for 2010 is an uprated 1100 EVO SP model for $14,995 that has higher ground clearance, upgraded suspension bits, Brembo Monobloc brake calipers, Marchesini wheels and a few external carbon fiber components. Want to know more? All the sordid details can be found in the press release after the break and we've added a high-res image gallery for your viewing pleasure below.<br />

<br /> Those of you who had the stomach to sit through <em>Terminator Salvation</em> with your eyes open will remember the mototerminators that launched themselves from the legs of the giant collectors. Those were actually based on Ducatis, but if you fancied the look of them, then Italian bike builder CR&amp;S has something pretty close.<br /> <br /> Called the DUU Concept, the naked ride is a combination of "a sporty European rolling chassis powered by a muscular American big-twin." The engine is a 1.9-liter (117 cu. in.) <a href="http://www.cycleworld.com/article.asp?section_id=3&amp;article_id=240">X-Wedge</a> supplied by S&amp;S. Wrapped around that powerplant is a chassis that CR&amp;S says can be tailored by the customer - although they don't indicate how beyond presenting the choice of single or two-seater versions.<br /> <br /> But since each DUU will be made by hand, one-at-a-time, we imagine they'll be happy to do anything your wallet will allow. The DUU Concept is being unveiled November 10 at the Milan International Bike Show. CR&amp;S said it has plans to build them from next year, at &euro;20,000 ($30,000 U.S.) apiece. Check it out in the gallery of high-res images below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/">CR&amp;S DUU Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/01_cr-s_duu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/02_cr-s_duu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/03_cr-s_duu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/04_cr-s_duu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/crands-duu-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/05_cr-s_duu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.crs-motorcycles.com/DUUconcepte.htm">CR&amp;S Motorcycles</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/crands-duu-concept-is-a-mototerminator-for-the-rest-of-us/">CR&amp;S DUU Concept is a mototerminator for the rest of us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 19:40:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br /> After months of rumors, grainy spy shots and leaked information, Ducati has finally pulled the wraps off its 2010 Multistrada 1200. As with the original MTS, Ducati wanted to create a machine with sportbike-level performance that could be attained on nearly any kind of surface terrain. This time, though, the Italian manufacturer started with its latest liquid-cooled Testastretta powerplant as used in the top-level 1198 superbike, athough altered with revised valve overlap for smoother power delivery and a 15-percent improvement in fuel consumption and emissions.<br /> <br /> Ducati says the new Multistrada 1200 is "four bikes in one," and has thus bestowed its new motorcycle with four distinct Riding Modes that alter power and traction control levels: Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Sport mode offers the full 150-horsepower experience with a low amount of traction control and Touring mode is intended for everyday riding. Urban and Enduro modes tone things down several notches to 100 horsepower - and opting for the latter also raises the suspension and sets the traction control to its least-active setting.<br /> <br /> Uplevel S models get a new Ducati Electronic Suspension setup that can be tailored to adjust spring pre-load along with rebound and compression damping with options for rider only, rider with luggage, rider and passenger or rider and passenger with luggage. Ducati says that the Multistrada 1200's 417-pound dry weight is the lowest in its class, though a full 5.3-gallon load of fuel (enough for 186 miles between fill-ups) would certainly raise that a bit. Pricing starts at $14,995 before any options are added. Hit the jump for the rest of the details and check out our high-res image gallery below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/">2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/02-mts-1200-abs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/01-mts-1200-abs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/03-mts-1200-abs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/_gi22454_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ducati-multistrada-1200/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/_gi22459_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Ducati]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/ducati-finally-unveils-2010-multistrada-1200-at-eicma/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ducati finally unveils 2010 Multistrada 1200 at EICMA</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/ducati-finally-unveils-2010-multistrada-1200-at-eicma/">Ducati finally unveils 2010 Multistrada 1200 at EICMA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 17:20:00 EST. <br />
Ducati. It's a name full of racing heritage and tradition, but it hasn't always been that way. The company's roots are much more humble, first by selling radio equipment before moving into the world of two wheels with a quaint motorized bicycle dubbed the Cucciolo - meaning "puppy" in Italiano - because of its cuddly exhaust note. Needless to say, there was no way of knowing in the early 1950s that the brand would go on to become one of the most successful grand prix racing companies in the world. But we're sure glad it did.<br />
<br />
Racing success came early and often in the '70s for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, and in 1972 Ducati won the Imola 200 with an air-cooled 750cc L-twin engine wrapped in a cradle-type frame. These are the bikes that Ducati sought to replicate with the SportClassic range that first debuted in concept form at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show and finally went into production in 2006. Living up to a legend is never an easy task, so when we managed to get our greasy mitts on a brand-new 2009 Sport 1000 for a couple of weeks, we wasted no time getting familiar with this sleek black machine. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/review-ducati-sport-1000-lives-up-to-its-heritage/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to see what we thought.<br />

<br /> Rumors of a possible motorcycle brand for Volkswagen aren't anything new. It's a well-known fact that Ferdinand Pi&euml;ch, Chairman of Volkswagen's Board, wishes that the German automaker had purchased Ducati back in 1985 when the Italian bike manufacturer was in dire financial shape.<br /> <br /> As recently as last year, Pi&euml;ch - himself a Ducati rider even at age 72 - commented that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/16/vw-chairman-piech-wants-to-buy-motorcycle-manufacturer/">Volkswagen could still purchase</a> an unnamed motorcycle manufacturer if the conditions were right. Strike up the rumormill again, boys and girls. The Italian motoring press is reportedly signaling that Volkswagen is making renewed overtures toward Ducati, which, like pretty much all other motorcycle manufacturers these days, is seeing sales and profits take a dive due to the sorry state of the global economy.<br /> <br /> Just a few weeks back at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>, Pi&euml;ch indicated that the Volkswagen Group was looking to expand, and some took that to mean it would procure a sizable stake in Suziki, another long-rumored target of the German automaker. KTM, maker of the bonkers X-Bow roadster, has also been bandied about as a potential partner. So, is there any truth to the two-wheeled VW rumors? We'll see how it all pans out soon enough, but we're not exactly holding our breath.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/">Ducati 1098 R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ducati_1098r_large_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ducati_1098r_large_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ducati_1098r_large_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ducati_1098r_large_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-1098-r/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/ducati_1098r_large_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.clutchandchrome.com/News/MotorcycleNews0910048.htm">Clutch and Chrome</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/rumormill-volkswagen-interested-in-ducati-still/">Rumormill: Volkswagen interested in Ducati... still</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 08:59:00 EST. <br />
There's no doubt that the Ducati Hypermotard is one of the most talked about new motorcycles in recent memory, but at $14,995, it is priced out of many buyer's budgets. If you're slightly shy of coin, we have some good news to share: Ducati has just officially announced the Hypermotard 796, and it carries a more reasonable $9,995 asking price.<br />
<br />
At this point, Ducati isn't saying much about the new engine that powers the Hypermotard 796, except that it's air-cooled, sports two valves per cylinder and puts out 81 horsepower and 56 lb-ft of torque. We've heard, though, that the new mill will displace around 800cc and is a development of the mill used in the Monster 696. Those power figures coupled with the new bike's low 368-pound (unverified at this point, naturally) package provide an attractive power-to-weight ratio.<br />
<br />
Other features will include an APTC clutch and a single-sided swingarm along with redesigned top and bottom fork clamps and a revised steel trellis frame. Color options will include Ducati red and matte black in addition to the cool matte white scheme seen in our photo gallery below. Click past the break for the official press release.<br />

<strong><br /></strong>While cars are definitely the conveyance of choice on the track at Laguna Seca during the Monterey Historics, there are enough motorcycles, scooters and mopeds zipping all over the paddock to make you realize that car people can very often be bike people as well. One pair of bikes that really caught our eye were the Ducatis you see above; One in Gulf Racing orange and blue, the other in the classic red and blue stripes on white of Martini &amp; Rossi, better known as Martini Racing. That was the one that really captivated us.<br /><br />Created as a tribute to Porsche, the Ducati 1098 S Martini Racing Bike was built to be displayed alongside the 1971 Martini Porsche 908/3 over the race weekend. This one-off Ducati honors the powerful and highly successful Martini Porsche and Lancia racing machines of the 1960's and 1970's. It looks awesome too, and we wish they would make more. And send them to our garage. Soon.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/">Monterey 2009: Ducati Martini Tibute Bike</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ducatitribute---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ducatitribute---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ducatitribute---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ducatitribute---4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-2009-ducati-martini-tibute-bike/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/ducatitribute---5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><small><em>Photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</em></small></strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/16/monterey-2009-ducati-debuts-martini-porsche-tribute-bike-at-his/">Monterey 2009: Ducati debuts Martini Porsche tribute bike at Historics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 16 Aug 2009 13:33:00 EST. <br />Ducati is using this weekend's Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California as the backdrop to launch its new 848 Nicky Hayden Special Edition sportbike. The new machine, which will only be available here in the States, features the same 134-horsepower L-twin Evoluzione powerplant, wet-clutch and six-speed gearbox as the rest of the 848 line.<br /><br />As the first of the 2010 848s introduced, the new Special Edition ushers in a revised LED dash cluster, optional 30mm mirror extensions for those with long-torsos and improved aluminum cam belt tensioner pulleys to go along with its new patriotic livery.<br /><br />The 848 Nicky Hayden SE will carry a $14,495 sticker price - a reasonable $500 over the asking price for last year's 848 - and will hit Ducati dealerships in America on July 7th after being on display throughout the U.S. GP festivities starting on the 4th. <strong> </strong>Christian Audigier won't leave us alone. The fashion designer responsible for decking out all the celebs in Ed Hardy and Von Dutch gear has made a killing off his overpriced wears, but apparently unsatisfied with infection of Hollywood, he's turned to motor vehicles as his unfortunate canvas.<br /><br />As if the tattoo'ed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/edo-competition-and-audigier-combine-for-limited-edition-designe/">Lamborghini Murcielago which Audigier created with Edo Competition</a> - which in turn spawned the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/17/racing-skull-ferrari-f430-calavera-by-unique-sportscars-and-nov/">Ferrari F430 Calavera</a> imitator - wasn't enough, he's set upon another exquisite piece of Italian exotica to tarnish: the Ducati Monster. Starting with the 1100cc superbike, Audigier and his partners at Rever Corsa have laid down some sort of dragon-tiger thing over a particularly gaudy red and gold paint scheme. This limited edition crotch rocket commands a $55,000 price tag, proving once again that money and taste don't always go hand in hand.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/">Ducati Monster by Christian Audigier</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/dsc_0289_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/dsc_0332_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/dsc_0356_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/dsc_0361_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-by-christian-audigier/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/dsc_0370_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.revercorsa.com/sales.html">Rever Corsa</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/03/christian-audigier-stikes-again-with-special-edition-ducati-mons/">Christian Audigier stikes again with special edition Ducati Monster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 08:58:00 EST. <br />While the age-old question of whether the fastest way 'round a race track is on two wheels or four isn't likely to get a definitive answer, on July 13th at the Ducs Fly South track day at New Jersey Motorsports Park we'll get another bit of evidence to consider.<br /><br />Three Ferrari Challenge cars will take to the track driven by the staff from Universal Autosports, with each competing against the other to set the fastest lap. Immediately following that hot lap competition, a series of professional instructors and racers from Ducati will perform an identical contest piloting the Italian bikes.<br /><br />You know where this is heading, right? Naturally, the Ferrari Challenge driver and Ducati rider with the fastest laps will go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all race. Wanna watch? No problem - you can even hit the track yourself on your own motorcycle. <br />Imagine for a moment that you are an artificially intelligent computer system with plans to kill off all humanity in a post apocalyptic future. Got it? If you were to pattern your <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/12/moto-terminator-arnold-gets-his-dream-bike/">two-wheeled robotic progeny</a> after an individual motorcycle design, what would you choose? The answer, at least according to <em>Terminator Salvation</em> director McG (yes, that's really the name he goes by), is the Ducati Hypermotard.<br /><br />We can't really fault the choice of the hooligan Hypermotard as the bike to shoot pre-processed scenes of motorcycling mayhem, as the naked bike is more than capable of supporting the kind of stunt riding necessary to shoot the film.<br /><br />Here's something we could do without, however: In one of the corniest lines we've heard in a good long time, McG seems to channel his inner Schwarzenegger, saying, "The bikes came through like champions... and terminated the competition!" Seriously, was that really necessary? See the footage after the break.<br /><br />[Source: Ducati]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/video-ducati-hypermotard-featured-in-i-terminator-salvation-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Ducati Hypermotard featured in <i>Terminator Salvation</i></em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/28/video-ducati-hypermotard-featured-in-i-terminator-salvation-i/">VIDEO: Ducati Hypermotard featured in <i>Terminator Salvation</i></a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:57:00 EST. It seems the Teutuls have more on their cycling minds than just screaming matches and outlandish Harley-inspired customs. In fact, Paul Sr.'s next two-wheeled venture is just about as far in the other direction as you could imagine. Curious? Think Italian, and think fast.<br /><br />That's right, though it seems at first glance like a rather odd pairing, Teutul Sr. (right) is indeed opening a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ducati">Ducati </a>dealership in his home state of New York called Ducati Hudson Valley. To celebrate OCC's 10th anniversary, the shop has turned its torches away from rumbling American V-twins for a moment and focused its attention on a new custom L-twin-powered <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ducatimonster1100">Monster 1100</a> that will be featured on an upcoming episode of American Chopper on TLC.<br /><br />Still don't believe it? People that sooner or later leave their unique thumbprints on the Internet. So it is with A.D. Maddox, a Jackson Hole, Wyoming artist who most certainly has cornered the market on Ducati 999 riding, plain-speaking, Catholic schoolgirl outfit wearing, bug splattering artistry. <br /><br />In Maddox's own words, the basic approach she has taken to her craft is to "Strap the canvas onto the bike, start riding, and kill bugs. That was my M.O." Eloquently succinct, that. "See, I'm an artist, and I do what I do. I mean, how can I define being an artist? I am what I am?" Indeed. Maddox has been creating her "<a href="http://www.admaddox.com/bug_gut/index.html">Bug Gut Paintings</a>" for some time now, and her website displays her 2006 catalog of work which is evidently entirely sold out. Most of the abstract paintings are sized 11"x14" or 14x14" and were priced at $350. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/video-a-d-maddox-worlds-first-ducati-riding-catholic-school/">Hit the jump</a> for the video and more information, then check out Maddox's work in the gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/the-art-of-a-d-maddox/low/">The Art of A.D. <br />What happens when you coop up a bunch of racers at a snow-capped ski resort for a few days? Well you can bet they'll be racing each other down the slopes. It's just in their blood. But snow or no snow, eventually they're going to find a way to race something motorized. And that's exactly what happened this past weekend in Madonna di Campiglio in the Italian Alps, where every winter <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/16/ferrari-sends-marlboro-logos-to-the-ashtray/">Marlboro's</a> two premier racing teams - Ferrari in Formula One and Ducati in MotoGP - meet to kick back before the racing season kicks off.<br /><br />Apparently tired of swooshing down the slopes or hitting on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/f1-heads-daughter-gets-racy-in-new-ad/">Tamara Ecclestone</a> in the lodge - the Formula One chief stopped by with his model daughter for a cup of hot cocoa - a handful of Ferrari drivers and Ducati riders went karting...on the ice and snow. With Ferrari test driver Marc Gene off to work <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/14/pics-and-video-scuderia-ferrari-f60-gets-on-track/">testing the new F60</a> and Kimi Raikkonen out with tonsil trouble (shame, because he's the one with the most <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/16/raikkonen-to-drive-the-arctic-rally-in-a-punto-abarth/">ice racing experience</a>), test driver Luca Badoer, Felipe Massa and his brother Eduardo lined up against Ducati riders <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/16/stonermobile-alfa-romeo-147-ducati/">Casey Stoner</a>, Nick Hayden and test rider Vittoriano Guareschi. Felipe, who organizes <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/05/massa-schedules-3rd-annual-all-star-karting-championship/">the occasional karting event</a> in his native Brazil, was in the lead until his knee-scraping counterpart Casey Stoner passed him on the penultimate lap and beat him to the finish line. Hayden took the final step on the podium ahead of Badoer, Guareschi and Eduardo Massa, proving that, on ice at least, racing prowess on two wheels is worth at least as much as four.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-vs-ducati-ice-karting/low/">Ferrari vs. Ducati ice karting</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-vs-ducati-ice-karting/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2191_090035ism_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-vs-ducati-ice-karting/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2186_090030ism_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-vs-ducati-ice-karting/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2185_090029ism_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-vs-ducati-ice-karting/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2188_090032ism_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72846">Autosport</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/20/marlboros-stars-on-ice-stoner-beats-massa-in-winter-kart-race/">Marlboro's Stars on Ice: Stoner beats Massa in winter kart race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Jan 2009 19:20:00 EST. While CES is and should be known for its unabashed display of geekery, it has also become a venue to display some top-notch custom automobiles. Take for instance the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2009-the-cars-of-ces-part-ii/1291185/">Ford Flex</a> at Sony's XPlod display. Sony says it wears an "urban-themed custom paint job" on the outside and a long list of the company's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/ces-2009-sony-xplods-with-new-automotive-units/">XPlod audio products</a> on the inside. The urban decor impressively even extends to the doors' kickplates and interior frames. Now that's attention to detail.<br /><br />A couple of booths over (which in CES speak means several thousand yards away), Monster skipped the fancy paint and just went for the fancy cars. Their super-blue Bentley GT looked almost stock until closer inspection revealed Monster's logos <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2009-the-cars-of-ces-part-ii/1291200/">imprinted on the roof</a> and the Bentley trunk badge <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ces-2009-the-cars-of-ces-part-ii/1291199/">replaced with</a> the Monster's corporate red M. Monster's booth was also home to a Lambo Murcielago whose exterior was mercifully left unscathed by such blatant branding.<br /><br />Other cars of note were Toyota's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/04/sema-2008-toyotas-truck-trio-is-3x-cooler-than-modded-venzas/">Ducati Tacoma</a> from SEMA and a really bad-ass, turbocharged, LSX-powered Cadillac wearing some sweet leather seats and a Strut S grille and wheels. <br />Ducati's Monster range has always been fertile ground for owner customization. First introduced in 1993, the Monster kicked off the current naked bike craze, and modifications have managed to remain part of its basic appeal. To promote future Monsterization of its latest unclothed model, the Italian firm has just launched a dealer customization contest to coincide with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/25/officially-official-ducati-officially-releases-monster-1100-and/">arrival of the 1100 S</a> in dealership showrooms. To kick-start the process, Ducati has sent 58 of its dealerships an early set of body panels for paint and the full accessories catalog will be made available.<br /><br />Monster fans will get their first chance to view the bikes in real life on January 9th, though online voting is slated to begin on January 1, 2009 and will run through the 13th. It'll be interesting to see how successful dealerships are in walking the fine line between making a cool custom and detracting from the air-cooled machine's inherent sense of minimalist design. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/">Ducati Monster 1100 and 1100 S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_05_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_06_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_01_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_02_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_03_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ducati]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/ducati-launches-customization-contest-for-new-monster-1100-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ducati launches customization contest for new Monster 1100 S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/ducati-launches-customization-contest-for-new-monster-1100-s/">Ducati launches customization contest for new Monster 1100 S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 08:29:00 EST. <br />A street-legal MotoGP replica. Thanks, we'll take two. Not surprisingly, Ducati has managed to raise quite a stir by releasing its <a href="http://www.ducati.com/docs_eng/model06/desmosedicirr/flash/index_eng.html">Desmosedici RR</a> into the wild. Equally as predictable is the fact that lots of people want to channel their inner Casey Stoner and experience the thrill of throwing a leg over their very own GP bike, so demand has been strong to say the least. Realizing a good thing when it jumps up and bites them, Ducati North America has somehow managed to locate a few more RRs (that would be "Racing Replica", by the way) for U.S. consumption. Up until this announcement, the stunning Desmosedici was made from unobtanium for prospective buyers that missed out on the initial run of 1,200 bikes, which was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/11/your-daily-dose-of-ducati-news-featuring-the-desmosedici-rr/">later increased to 1,500 units</a>. <br /><br />Packing a 200-horsepower 989cc "double L-Twin" engine neatly inside its trademark Ducati steel trellis frame, the RR is based on the 2006 GP6 bike that the Italian manufacturer used to contest the 2006 MotoGP championship. It's all shrink-wrapped inside a shapely set of carbon fiber body panels. So, uh, want to be like Tom Cruise? Now's the time to call your local Ducati dealer. Quickly we might add. The rest of us will just need to be content finding our next wallpaper in the gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/">Ducati Desmosedici RR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/d16_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/d16_8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/d16_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/d16_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-desmosedici-rr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/d16_16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ducati]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/moto-lust-thy-name-is-ducati-desmosedici-rr-ducati-na-finds-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Moto lust, thy name is Desmosedici RR: Ducati NA finds a few more to sell</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/moto-lust-thy-name-is-ducati-desmosedici-rr-ducati-na-finds-a/">Moto lust, thy name is Desmosedici RR: Ducati NA finds a few more to sell</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 13:02:00 EST. <br />Ducati is about to release a new naked performance bike, but it's not a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/25/officially-official-ducati-officially-releases-monster-1100-and/">Monster</a>. The Italian motorcycle manufacturer has decided that all Monsters should be air-cooled, and so its liquid-cooled naked bikes will carry a new name. The 1099cc V-Twin engine comes from the firm's superbike range and pumps out 155 horsepower and 87.5 lb-ft of torque. That's plenty of arm-stretching power for a naked bike, and we're sure the Streetfighter will be quite the hooligan machine. This new platform has much more angular and menacing looks than its little Monster brother and carries the stacked exhaust cans from high-spec versions of the previous-gen Monster.<br /><br />The S model gets the expected &Ouml;hlins suspension upgrades along with Marchesini forged aluminum wheels; bronze-painted frame, wheels and swingarm; carbon fiber bits plus electronic goodies like standard traction control and data acquisition. Ducati's got a short teaser on its <a href="http://www.ducati.com/cover/main_en.html">home page</a> and reveals that all the goods will be available shortly. Expect the price to fall in the mid-teens and the waiting list to start at your local Ducati dealership.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-streetfighter/low/">Ducati Streetfighter</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-streetfighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/ducati-streetfighter2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-streetfighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/ducati-streetfighter_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-streetfighter/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/ducati-streetfighter1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2008/11/ducati-streetfighter-and-stree.html">Hell For Leather</a>, <a href="http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/mcn/2008/November/3-9/nov0409-ducati-1098-streetfighter-first-pictures/?R=EPI-103921">Motorcycle News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/03/ducati-unveils-streetfighter-in-milan/">Ducati unveils Streetfighter in Milan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 16:58:00 EST. <br />Whenever an icon like the original Ducati Monster is restyled, the results are sure to be controversial. That was the case last year when the Italian bike-maker launched the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/ducati-officially-unveils-the-new-2008-monster-696/">Monster 696</a>, the only naked sportbike from Ducati using the new design for the model year. As <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/04/ducati-to-update-monster-range-with-1100-ds-engine/">expected</a>, 2009 brings an 1100cc addition to the new Monster range powered by the same air-cooled Desmo engine from the Multistrada and Hypermotard, though possibly updated with new cases for this application. Power output stands at 95-horsepower at 7500rpm and 79.5 lb-ft of torque at 6000rpm. It's that torque figure that will be most appreciated over that of the 696, which still remains available for '09. <br /><br />A single-sided swingarm makes the new 1100 stand apart from its smaller sibling, as do the slightly more massive dual exhausts. Both a standard Monster 1100 and a S-model will be available, the latter of which will include <span style="color: black;">a fully adjustable 43mm titanium nitride coated forks and a new progressive rear shock from Ohlins. A few extra carbon fiber bits help drop 2.2-pounds from the 1100's 371-pound dry weight and gold wheels give it some instant visual pizazz. <em>All the details are available in the press release after the break. *Updated with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/1058873/">larger gallery</a>.</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/">Ducati Monster 1100 and 1100 S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_05_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_06_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_01_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_02_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100-and-1100-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/big_ducati_monster_1100_03_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/">Ducati Monster 1100</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/monster11001100s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/1100-action_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/1100-cafe_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/1100s-action_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/monster1100silver_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ducati]<br /></span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/25/officially-official-ducati-officially-releases-monster-1100-and/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: Ducati officially releases Monster 1100 and 1100 S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/25/officially-official-ducati-officially-releases-monster-1100-and/">Officially Official: Ducati officially releases Monster 1100 and 1100 S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 18:58:00 EST. Last year, the only option available for fans of the original naked bike was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/ducati-officially-unveils-the-new-2008-monster-696/">entry-level 696</a> engine. While that machine, with its throaty V-Twin and brand new chassis, was definitely a good bike, those looking for a bit more power either had to move on up the Italian manufacturers line or look elsewhere. As expected, Ducati will rectify that problem this year by dropping its excellent Dual Spark 1100cc air-cooled engine inside the Monster's shapely new trellis frame. Along with the engine upgrade, a single-sided swingarm spices things up at the rear and much improved Brembo radial mount brakes should equal huge and controllable stopping power. We're certain that the new Monster will make its formal debut at one of the upcoming motorcycle shows in Europe. Until then, enjoy these grainy spy shots.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-ducati-monster-1100/low/">Spy Shots: Ducati Monster 1100</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/monster_1100_1_large_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/monster_1100_2_large_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-ducati-monster-1100/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/monster_1100_3_large_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.ducatimonsterclub.it/index.php?option=com_smf&amp;Itemid=101&amp;topic=29344.0;topicseen">Ducati Monster Club</a> via <a href="http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/mcn/2008/september/1-7/2009-Ducati-Monster-1100-spy-shots/">Motorcycle News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/04/ducati-to-update-monster-range-with-1100-ds-engine/">Ducati to update Monster range with 1100 DS engine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 18:29:00 EST.
