This is Citroën's amazing diorama tribute to celebrate its WRC winnings

Citroen has taken a unique stab at commemorating Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena's nine World Rally Championship wins. Rather than work up yet another tired video of the champions expounding on the virtues, trials and and tribulations that come with being the very best for nearly a decade straight, the company whipped up a diorama atop Citroen DS3. The scale model covers nine separate rally terrains, including bits from Rally Finland and the Acropolis Rally. Each one of the nine sections features a 1:43 scale version of the duo's rally car from each year of victorious competition.

The model took Kieron Barter of Funky Lemon Design and his team some two months to complete. Initially displayed at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the diorama is set to start a tour of various dealers beginning today. Check out the full press release below for more information.

2013 Citroën DS3 Cabrio puts its canvas back

The Citroen DS3 Cabrio bowed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The drophead version of the French hatch retains its five-seat configuration and offers one of the largest cargo areas of any cars in the segment. The convertible uses a folding top akin to that of the diminutive Fiat 500C, wherein the roof rails remain in place while the canvas peels back in neat folds. As a result, the car looks just like its hardtop sibling with top up, and Citroen says buyers will be able to open the roof at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour.

The DS3 Cabrio will be available with three engine options, including an 82-horsepower, 1.2-liter three-cylinder, a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a 155-horsepower 1.6-liter four pot. Customers in the UK can expect to shell out 15,045 pounds for the base engine, though prices stretch all the way to 19,675 pounds for the 155-horse variant with no options.

Citroën DS3 tears the roof off

The Citroën DS3 Cabrio we first saw at the 2012 Paris Motor Show has launched in the UK, putting more Gallic-tinged, canvas-roofed convertible goodness on the automotive menu. Competing directly against cars like the Mini Cooper Convertible and Fiat 500C, Citroën believes it's got a winner because on top of the DS3's already popular chops the Cabrio maintains the five-seater space and the largest cargo area in the segment.

You can open and close the roof at up to 75 miles per hour - the Citroën release doesn't say whether that means all the way or to the intermediate, horizontal position. Buyers get seven exterior colors to select from, a roof in either black, Infinite Blue or Moondust Grey DS Monogramme, six interior decor styles, and nine wheel options.

There are three trims, the DSign with the 82-horsepower VTi engine is the backstop of the line at 15,045 pounds ($23,747 US) on-the-road, the DStyle with the 120-hp VTi for 17,425 pounds ($27,507 US) and the DSport with its 155-hp THP motor for 19,675 pounds ($31,201 US). 2013 Citroën DS3 Cabrio shows trick folding top to the world

Citroën's DS3 line has been a huge success in its home market of France ever since the car was launched in 2009. Sitting in the fat-middle part of the luxury category, it only makes sense that a convertible variant for the DS3 pop up sooner or later - and later is the Paris Motor Show.

The 2013 DS3 Cabrio should provide a stylish roofless option for European customers when it goes on sale in the beginning of 2013, especially as it boasts the same buttoned-down bodylines of the standard hatchback. That pattered, fabric roof affair slides and folds neatly away automatically, and can come to rest in one of two positions. The whole affair reminds us a lot of the rag roof on the Fiat 500C, albeit fitted to a vehicle that is far more useful for back seat passengers.

While we already shared most of the details of the car, our gallery of live images is worth a browse, even if you're not mad for all things Citroën.

Citroën DS3 Cabrio ready to roll back its lid in Paris [w/videos]

Citroën is adding another member to its DS3 line, this one a Cabrio with a sliding fabric roof in either black, Infini blue or DS Monogramme (as shown). The two-position opening mechanism follows the path laid out by the Mini Cooper convertible and Fiat 500 Cabrio, the driver able to slide the roof back to the leading edge of the C-pillar or send it all the way down into a plinth-like pile atop the trunk hatch. And as with the Mini, the top can be opened at speeds up to 74 mph.

The rest of the very popular DS3 hatch has remained intact, but the addition of direct access to Helios has encouraged Citroën to say the DS3 Cabrio is "pleasure non-stop." Sebastien Loeb gets us excited for X Games 2012

Sébastien Loeb is giving both Global RallyCross and the X Games a go in Los Angeles this Sunday: he'll line up with other drivers like fellow World Rally Championship title winner Marcus Grönholm, Travis Pastrana and Baja 500 winner Brian Menzies when he takes part in the GRC event at ESPN's Summer X Games.

He's been testing his Citroën DS3 XL GRC car, which is more powerful and handles differently than his WRC car. He'll tell you all about it in the video below.

Whether or not you're a fan of pop music and hip-hop, car nuts sit up and take notice when their music videos feature some hot rides. We've seen everything from Kanye chopping up a Maybach to Danica driving Italian exotics in Monte Carlo. (Come to think of it, both those two are Jay-Z videos.) Now British pop star Pixie Lott and American rapper Pusha T have brought out a different kind of ride for their latest music video.

Part of an ongoing (and rather noticeable) product-placement campaign partnership between Pixie Lott and Citroën, the new single What Do You Take Me For? opens and closes with the DS3 Racing - the French automaker's anything-but-subtle 207-horsepower hot hatch. The track will feature on Pixie's upcoming album Young Foolish Happy, but the video's out now, and whether it's your kinda tune or not, you can check it out after the jump together with the press release. Just be warned, all of you working in puritanical office environments: there be booty shaking here.

Citroën puts its foot down with DS3 Racing shoes

Power is nothing without control. That's what Pirelli told us with the famous image of the sprinter in the high-heeled shoes a couple of decades ago. And they were right. Because while some have been known to drive supercars in flip-flops, any racing driver will tell you that you need a proper pair of driving shoes to drive a performance vehicle properly. Which is why we've seen so many automakers offering their own line of driving shoes to go with their cars. And the latest is Citroën.

The French automaker has teamed up with fashion label Gio-Goi (don't ask us how that's pronounced) for a limited-edition set of kicks inspired by the DS3 Racing hot hatch. The black and orange leather high-tops take their design cues from the car's seats, wheels and grille, are limited to just 100 pairs, priced at £120 ($193) and are available directly from the designer's website. Citroën launches Grey Matter special to headline new DS3 Collection

As if the Citroën DS3 weren't chic enough as it is, the automaker has brought in a series of designers to give it that extra touch of style. Kenzo, Orla Kiely and Yves Saint-Laurent have all brought their pens to the decidedly un-retro premium hatchback, and now the French automaker is following up with some new designer editions.

First up is the Grey Matter, a special edition limited to 750 examples, characterized by its matte gray body with contrasting chrome trim. Buyers can specify the roof and 17-inch alloys in either white or black to play off the gray body.

Citroën is also offering a new gold roof decal called Flavio, penned by the Italian winner of its public design contest. Which, as you can see from the images in our gallery, contrasts nicely with the new Hickory Brown paint that joins the palette of ten existing colors. Details in the press release after the jump.

As we said before, it's that time when everyone starts rolling out their year-end "Best of" lists and revisits their favorite rides of 2010. Top Gear is in on the action, naming its annual award winners. Its list, as you can see, is diverse and loaded with forbidden fruit (at least for those of us in the U.S.)

Citroën's DS3 WRC entrant, the car they've chosen to adapt to the new regulations, will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next week. Among the deluge of pics and videos teasing all manner of creations we'll be seeing on the French floor, the Gallic firm has strung together a few shadowy snippets of the hot hatch that Sébastien Loeb will pilot next year (according to him, his final year) in his attempt to win yet another title. Citroen DS3 by Kenzo is hipper by design

Premium hatchbacks are all the rage these days. But in case the diminutive city cars weren't fashionable enough already, their manufacturers have teamed up with an endless array of fashion houses to create even more stylish versions. Previous examples have included the Fiat 500 by Diesel, the Lancia Ypsilon by Versus and the successive annual Lifeball edition Minis created by the likes of Kenneth Cole, Versace and Agent Provocateur.

Citroën, for its part, recently teamed up with Yves St Laurent for a special one such collaboration, and having already launched the DS3 Design Competition, the French automaker has now brought Japanese fashion house Kenzo on board for another.

The Citroën DS3 by Kenzo features a unique multicolor retro pattern on both the roof and the interior upholstery, giving the stylish micro-hatch a distinctive design flourish. For better or worse, though, the Kenzo edition DS3 remains a unique one-off for the time being.

Citroën DS3 R3 ready for customer combat

Citroën has just introduced a new customer rally car for the FIA's Group R3T class based on the DS3. The DS3 R3 will be available as either a turn-key racer or a do-it-yourself kit. Either way, power comes from a 210-horsepower high-pressure turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four driving through the six-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox. Shifts are handled via carbon fiber paddles mounted on the back of the steering wheel.

The suspension has been developed to make it easily adaptable to different racing surfaces ranging from gravel to tarmac. Tubular wishbones are attached to a revised front subframe while the rear hubs are removable to allow for independent toe and camber adjustments. The bodyshell comes with a multi-point steel roll-cage already welded in, but buyers will have to supply seats, harnesses and fire suppression equipment. Citroën says it has accumulated over 6,000 miles of testing since last August.

Citroën reportedly planning DS3 convertible

French motorists sure do love them some cabriolets, but while Renault and Peugeot each offer an assortment of convertibles, Citroën has largely stayed out of the sun-worshiping game. Until now, that is, according to reports from across the Atlantic.

A drop-top version of the DS3 premium hatchback is said to be in the works, although details at this point are scarce. No word on what sort of mechanism - fabric or metal - will be employed, or which engines will carry over from the fixed-roof model, but sources state that the hot DS3 Racing version won't go topless. The DS3 cabrio isn't expected before 2012 at the earliest, at which point it will likely fetch a £2000 premium, or about €2500/$3000.

Attention all budding car designers: Citroën's DS3 Design Competition is giving you a chance to see your automotive vision in production. Well, at least the dashboard and roof of your automotive vision. Seeking designs that are daring yet professional, the contest to create a compelling look for the top and front of the DS3 is open to anyone anywhere in the world.

Should you enter, your work will be critiqued by designing eyes from GQ, Louis Vuitton and The Cartier Foundation. If you win, your work will be showcased on an actual DS3 at this year's Paris Motor Show in October and Citroën's C_42 show on the Champs-Elysées.

Citroen creates a special DS3 for Yves Saint Laurent

With its new premium DS range, Citroen is desperate to do the same thing to its hatchbacks as French fashion has done for clothes. But sometimes it can be a bit of a stretch.

Take for example, this DS3 crafted for Yves Saint Laurent. Citroen prepared the premium hatchback specifically for an event that looks back on the history of the YSL brand and the recently passed namesake founder, using it to shuttle celebrities and journalists around Paris. (We would have gone with a C5, but we digress.)

So what makes this DS3 different from all other DS3s? A special paint job, complete with a big Yves Saint Laurent logo on the contrasting black roof. Which may be all the fashion-forward DS3 really needs, but given the countless fashion-branded special editions (like the Fiat 500 Diesel or Versace-edition Lamborghini Murcielago) and short of the concept car which the French automaker created with GQ magazine, we would have at least expected some sort of special interior treatment for a car associated with one of the world's best-known fashion houses.

For those who may have yet to notice, Citroen's been dominating the World Rally Championship for the better part of a decade now. But notwithstanding the odd special edition C4 or Xsara, the French automaker hasn't capitalized on its rally success in the same way as Subaru and Mitsubishi have. Soon Citroen Sport will be switching from the C4 to the new DS3 in line with the new WRC format, but they're not waiting around to see how it fares before launching a rally-inspired version for the road. And this is it.

Called the DS3 Racing, the premium hot hatch is a limited edition packed with bits and pieces garnered from its WRC dominance. That means 200 horsepower from its 1.6-liter turbo four, a 15-millimeter lower sport suspension, upgraded brakes and the requisite trim enhancements. The result may look like a jack-o-lantern with a French accent, but make no mistake about it: the Mini Cooper JCW has been put on notice.

Think of a road-ready rally machine, and what pops into your head? Likely the Subaru Impreza WRX STI or Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, right? Well Subaru hasn't won the World Rally Championship in seven years, Mitsubishi in eleven. In fact, neither is even trying anymore: Both have withdrawn from the championship. No, that territory is Citroen's to claim. The French automaker (with its star driver Sebastien Loeb) have been the reigning champs since 2004, but Citroen hasn't really capitalized on its gravel-drifting prowess with anything even approaching what of the WRX and Evo. Until now.

Although the current C4 Loeb has won the past three world rally championships in remains in active duty for another season - with former F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen taking the wheel in the junior team - after that the new rally-spec DS3 (previewed in a batch of spy shots a few months ago) will take its place. From the looks of things, however, Citroen isn't waiting around for the DS3 to match the C4's dominance before they roll out the street version.

Following an earlier report last month hinting at the hot DS3's arrival, a handful of photos showing what insiders suggest is the finished product have leaked onto the interwebs. Brought to us by our compadres over at Autoblog Spanish, these shots were recently confirmed as the real deal (and not as photochops as originally suspected) when the same car showed up in other images released (and since retracted) by the factory.

The car pictured features wider wheel flarings housing bigger hoops and riding on a dropped suspension. Sources peg it at 15 millimeters stouter than stock, with NAFTA four-pot brakes front and rear. Under the hood, the 1.6-liter turbo four is tipped to produce between 200 and 210 horsepower, driving through a six-speed manual (the jury's still out on the presence of a limited-slip differential) and likely to the front wheels to propel the DS3 Racing to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds. The Halloween livery may be a love-it-or-hate-it affair, but this is likely what we'll see, if the reports prove accurate at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. For our part, we'll take ours in deep blue, with a big red leaping bull on the side and our names printed above the doors.

Citroën's got big plans for its DS3. Not only is the premium hatchback launching the new DS line for the French automaker, but the vehicle itself is set to breed some serious performance variants. Now, following a batch of spy shots showing a rally-prepped version of the DS3 comes reports that parent company PSA is considering giving the green light to a street-legal performance version. So with the likes of the Alfa MiTo and upcoming Audi A1 closing in, the Mini Cooper S has been put on notice yet again.

Just how close to home will the prospective DS3 hot hatch hit? Considering that the Citroën shares its PSA/BMW co-developed engine with the Mini, pretty close. As it is, the top-of-the-line DS3 packs a 154-horsepower version of the 1.6-liter four, hitting 60 in an admirable 7.3 seconds. With output expected to come between 170 and 200 hp, the hottest DS3 could not only take on the Cooper S, but also other hot hatches like the SEAT Ibiza Cupra and Clio Renaultsport 200, to name just a few. Sources peg its launch for some time next year, so stay tuned.
