With the tightening of the purse strings at parent company Chrysler, the weakening economy and slow truck sales in general, Dodge has decided to pull out of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series following the completion of this year's festivities. This announcement should hardly come as a shock as Dodge made the decision to run just one factory-backed racer for 2008. That lone truck was being run by Bobby Hamilton Racing and we have no details on what the team plans to do for '09. The fact that Dodge has pulled support for the NASCAR Trucks has many pondering if the beleaguered automaker will do the same for the automotive side of the racing series. According to Dodge Motorsports senior manager Mike Delahanty, there are no reasons to jump to conclusions. We'll keep our collective ears to the ground. Thanks for the tip, Hernando!

Robby Gordon is regarded as one of the most versatile drivers in NASCAR. After racing in Champ Cars, IndyCars, Trans-Am, IMSA, IROC and the Dakar Rally, Robby (no relation to Jeff Gordon) moved to NASCAR, competing in the Craftsman Truck series and then the Busch series before moving up to the premier Sprint Cup, where he runs his own single-car team. He's won three cup races and is ranked as the most successful owner/driver on the grid.

Now, after having run Chevy engines from Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Ford engines last season, Gordon has announced his switch to Dodge for 2008. The deal, considered a coup for Dodge, was struck with Gillett Evernham Motorsports, which also fields cars for Kasey Kahne, Elliot Sadler and open-wheel defector Patrick Carpentier. We hope the Dodge engines meet Gordon's approval, or Toyota may be getting a call soon.

Not that there was a lot of speculation about Dodge possibly dropping out, but Dodge's senior manager for motorsports, Mike Deahanty, says the brands presence in NASCAR will remain under Chrysler's new ownership by Cerberus Capital Management. Petty Enterprises and Evernham Motorsports have both renewed their contracts with Dodge.

Top Speed, however, says sponsorship for the Evernham team, which currently includes Dodge dealers and the United Auto Workers, could change, with Budweiser rumored to be interested in paying Kasey Kahne to wear its red livery.

So rest easy, NASCAR Dodge fans. You'll still be able to see Dodge Chargers (or at least machines with Charger written across the nose) roaring around in circles.
