Travis Pastrana, Dodge Dart get first RallyCross win [w/video]

Travis Pastrana has had a tough start to 2012, wrecking out of nearly every race he's entered. The Global RallyCross Championship has been particularly frustrating, with the Red Bull Motorsports driver finishing 8th and 15th in the first two events of the season and failing to make its past the first round of the X Games after getting smashed into the wall in the first turn.

Pastrana hopes his fortunes have turned around, though, after managing to give the Dodge Dart its first RallyCross win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this past weekend. He qualified third overall and managed to win his heat, giving him a spot on the front row for the final race. Pastrana took advantage of his position, jumping out to a first lap lead after passing Tanner Foust in a hairpin and eventually finishing just ahead of Samuel Hubinette. Brian Deegan rounded out the podium in third place, with Foust finishing in fourth and Ken Block in fifth.

"It's been so long, I almost forgot what it's like to win," said Pastrana after the race. "It is absolutely awesome to get out here and get on top. It has been a rough season."

The next and final race of the 2012 Global RallyCross season will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend of September 28-29. Check out the videos below for all the leaps, jumps and bumps.

Watch Travis Pastrana hoon the world's only Dodge Dart rally car

If you had one evening to record a promotional video and photo shoot, a full camera crew and the only Dodge Dart rally car in existence, what would you do with it? If you're Travis Pastrana, you bring your buddies from Red Bull with you to Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Grounds and you film them filming you hooning the bejeezus out of it.

By now, you've probably already seen the video Dodge released showing Pastrana's exploits in the race-spec Dart, full of slow-motion scenes and plenty of full-throttle drifting on tarmac and off. If not, click here. Since two minutes and 44 seconds of said footage is good, eight minutes of it can only be better, right? Right.

Dodge Dart gears up for Pastrana's assault on RallyCross

Although we don't doubt it's been done, turning a Dodge Neon or Caliber into a race car would be a bit of a stretch. The Dart, however, is another beast entirely. So people stood up and noticed when Dodge announced it was fielding a competition version of its Alfa Romeo-based compact sedan - with no less prominent a performer than Travis Pastrana behind the wheel - in the Global RallyCross Championship.

Now the rally-spec Dart has debuted here under the bright lights of the New York Auto Show - all 600 horsepower of it. And as far as competition versions of Dodge economy sedans go, it sure looks the business. Especially since Alfa hasn't taken the Giulietta on which the Dart is based to any races we've seen, anyway.
