The Auburn Hills-based automaker, however, will show its dealers three new all-electric cars at the end of this month that are said to be production capable. Jim Press, the Chrysler exec who came from rival and current hybrid-leader Toyota, added that Chrysler's future platforms were being designed with electrification in mind and that is still has access to technology from its previous owner, Daimler. <br /><br />Like General Motors, Chrysler seems convinced that its EVs need to have plug-in capability. The goal, says Press, is 300 miles of range. To make that a reality, a very good set of batteries will be necessary - likely lithium-ions - and Press assures us that his company is working with multiple suppliers. Will any of the production-ready models be anything like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-chrysler-concepts-show-us-the-green-future-or-not/">concepts</a> shown off last year in Detroit? As we have mentioned already, each is born out of the automaker's ENVI program, the focus of which is on new, environmentally-friendly electric propulsion. As such, all the concepts share the same 200 kw (268 hp equivalent) electric motor powered by a currently nonexistent lithium-ion battery pack and augmented by a secondary "range-extender" in the Renegade and ecoVoyager. That includes a vaporware fuel-cell in the latter. It's all okay, though, because as Chrysler's Frank Klegon pointed out, these are "pure concepts." He then went on to say that these "pure concepts" would be seen "in future production vehicles," which left us confused. Follow the jump for some extremely in-depth analysis of Chrysler's electric vehicle concepts.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/">2008 Detroit: Chrysler Concepts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/chrysler_concepts_1280_15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/chrysler_concepts_1280_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/chrysler_concepts_1280_29_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/chrysler_concepts_1280_35_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-detroit-chrysler-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/chrysler_concepts_1280_43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-chrysler-concepts-show-us-the-green-future-or-not/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: Chrysler concepts show us the green future. The 2+2 coupe features 64kWh of electric energy that's sent to the rear wheels via a 268-hp motor. Dodge claims that the 2,650-pound Zeo can amble along for 250 miles before it's due for a recharge, although we'd suspect that turning the massive 23-inch wheels might take a bite out of the Zeo's long-range cruising capabilities. The actual mechanicals are also, most likely, a figment of some product planner's imagination at the moment.<br /><br />The design is typical concept car flare, with wheels pushed to the edges of the body and a steeply raked windshield that carries all the way to the rear of the vehicle, terminating in a tapered hatch that's accentuated by massive fender flares.<br /><br />We don't expect the Zeo to come to fruition anytime soon if at all, but we approve of automakers at least entertaining the idea that being green doesn't need to overwhelm a vehicle's personality. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/">Detroit 2008: Dodge ZEO Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cn008_003dg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cn008_004dg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cn008_005dg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cn008_006dg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-concept-4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cn008_007dg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-takes-green-adds-mean/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008: Dodge Zeo takes green, adds mean</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/14/detroit-2008-dodge-zeo-takes-green-adds-mean/">Detroit 2008: Dodge Zeo takes green, adds mean</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 00:00:00 EST. It's eco-friendly credentials come via its all-EV powertrain, which consists of a lithium-ion battery pack capable of an impressive 250-mile range. That's theoretical and on-paper we presume, but it's nice to dream. The ZEO is a 2+2, four-passenger sport wagon that features the familiar cross-hair grille up front with a design that looks more Japanese than American to us. The hatchback profile looks like something we've seen on recent Mazda and Honda concepts, though the haunchy fender flares are all Dodge. Unfortunately, that's all we know about the ZEO until January when Dodge debuts the concept in Detroit. <br /><br />[Source: Dodge]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-zeo-concept/low/">Dodge ZEO Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-zeo-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/cn008_001dg_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/dodge-zeo-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/cn008_002dg_high_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/20/detroit-2008-preview-dodge-zeo-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit 2008 Preview: Dodge ZEO Concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/20/detroit-2008-preview-dodge-zeo-concept/">Detroit 2008 Preview: Dodge ZEO Concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 14:15:00 EST.
