The DeLorean used in the Back to the Future movie trilogy may be the single most memorable movie vehicle for anyone who grew up in the 1980s (as did the vast majority of the staff here at Autoblog). And so, whenever we hear anything having to do with the car, the movie or its main characters, we sit up and take notice.

No surprise, then, that a company may want to make use of all that nostalgia to market itself - apparently, even one based in Argentina that we'd never heard of called Garbarino. The superstore apparently has all manner of high-end gadgetry, and it's hocked the skills of one Christopher Lloyd - forever known to BTTF fans as Doctor Emmet L. Brown - to help sell them.

You may remember a couple of videos that were floating 'round these parts a little while ago featuring Doc Brown and his time-traveling gullwing. It seems those were viral teasers intended to drum up some nostalgic interest ahead of the real deal.

We'll get this out of the way right off the bat... these are just commercials for an Argentinian electronics store and aren't going to set your BTTF-filled world on fire. Regardless, it's good clean fun, and it gives us yet another reason to ogle over a certain nuclear-powered DeLorean and its flux capacitor (which is what makes time travel possible...). Check out the vids after the break.

Finally, for more on the actual car used to film these commercials, check out this link. We also think it's cool that Garbarino is setting up a way for patrons to make donations to Michael J. Fox's charity to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
Continue reading Doc Brown goes Back to the Future, finds Garbarino electronics store

Doc Brown goes Back to the Future, finds Garbarino electronics store originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 07 Sep 2011 19:58:00 EST.
1981 DeLorean Time Machine - Click above for high-res image gallery

The way we see it, if you're going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style? Thankfully, Hollywood's Doc Brown agreed with us. In this case, style equals a 1981 DeLorean with 31,854 original miles and tons of Back to the Future props built in. We're not exactly experts on the subject or anything, but this particular DeLorean time machine replica looks pretty darn accurate to us.

The actual car bits are as you'd expect. Like the DeLorean used in the classic movie from 1985, this car is powered by a 2.8-liter V6 engine driving the rear wheels, albeit the power in this one flow through a three-speed automatic transmission. No surprises there. Of course, the car's coup de grâce is the "fully functional" flux capacitor and matching set of time circuits. You can even check out the car in action in a priceless Back to the Future video sendup after the jump, or check out the gallery below that's studded with b-list celebrity cameos.

Want to take the nearly complete Back to the Future Time Machine home with you? Now's your chance. The McFlys are Back to the Future-themed basketball shoes, with a color scheme inspired by the shoes Michael J. Fox wore in Back to the Future II. They come complete with "2015" emblazoned on the right shoe's tongue, while the left one features the BTTF arrow logos. Kobe showed up at the completely-mobbed event in -- what else -- a DeLorean done up just like Doc Brown's movie car. The perennial All-Star posed for pics and signed shoes for the first 10 fans lucky enough to score a pair. Lest you think a special-edition sneaker launch like this is no big thing, know that there were people lined up outside the joint for as long as 24 hours. Nike's missing the boat if we don't get a viral of Kobe jumping over that DeLorean as a sequel to the Aston video. I mean, he's got big ups, but clearing that Mr. Fusion won't be easy. Follow the jump for a short clip of Marty putting on the shoes that started this madness some 19 years ago. Thanks for the heads-up, Steve.

[Hypebeast via Autofiends]
Continue reading Kobe rolls like Doc Brown to launch McFly kicks

Kobe rolls like Doc Brown to launch McFly kicks originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 Jul 2008 19:29:00 EST. One unfortunate Delorean owner recently had a bit of a meltdown, but we don't think Doc Brown was anywhere in the immediate vicinity. An instant classic after its appearance in the "Back To The Future" movies, the Delorean was one of those "could have been" cars that captured a lot of people's imaginations. Among them is director Robert Zemeckis, who cast the Irish-built, French-powered, stainless-steel wonder in his films. The gullwing doors, naked stainless body and overall rakish shape promised so much more than the Renault V6 delivered, but the car still had quite a following.

The DeLorean still does have a following, as a matter of fact. Some people even use them as their daily drivers. This particular example was found near a pawn shop, and photographed for posterity. We see no evidence of a Flux Capacitor, so we can only guess that those modifications burned away during this sample's untimely demise. With nearly 130 years of wear and tear on it, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that it might have had a few mechanical issues. It did manage to succeed in traveling from 1985 to 1955 and back again, with stops in 2015 and 1885 along the way, after all.

Thanks for the tip, aL!

[Source: Chalkline]
The ill effects of an overheating Flux Capacitor originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 14:29:00 EST.
