A newly released study finds that the emissions from post-2007, EPA-compliant diesel engines do not show risks of causing lung cancer in lab rats. The animals were exposed to the exhaust for 80 hours a week for up to 30 months. Previous studies have shown much more adverse effects from older diesels.

General Motors and Isuzu have officially stitched together 1.5 million Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engines. The joint venture between the two manufacturers started in 1998, and now the DMAX plant employs 517 workers in a 584,000 square-foot facility. On Friday, General Motors swung open the doors to its "state-of-the-art," $200-million diesel engine factory located in Thailand's eastern Rayong province. This facility is the U.S. automaker's first diesel production site in Southeast Asia and part of Thailand's push to become a bigger producer of eco-friendlier vehicles.

Advanced powertrain developer FEV, Inc., will show off its High Efficiency Combustion System (HECS) diesel engine at the 2011 SAE World Congress.
